I'm not Jewish, and there is no Jewish community where I live but I've always been strongly attracted to Ashkenazi culture. I was once told I have a Jewish soul. Lol I also studied linguistics. I love listening to these clips. The way he goes seamlessly between English, Yidfish, and Hebrew is delightful! The use of technical Hewbrew terms means that I don't fully understand what he's saying, but I don't care! It's music to my ears.

HaShem wants the heart. That heart can come from a very broken place, and would be much more precious to HaShem then someone who has a lot to be proud of. Wherever a person finds themselves, they should realize that's the place where HaShem wants them to look for Him. A Jew who grew up without religion or a home has tremendous potential and so do non-Jew's in coming close to the Creator.

Can't BELIEVE this has only 3,484 views in 3 years. Very beautiful explanation of the issue, and I really learned the value of Yichus!

    That was a great talk!
I've always wondered why in Hebrew the word for "male" (zachar) is the same as "memory"? It seems to me, it is because the male line that has to be memorized, and maybe also because, a mother is obvious, but the father must be 'remembered.'
It seems me that adoption in a spiritual sense, causes the soul of the adopted to be absorbed into the lineage of the adopter. "These are the genrations of Moses and Aaron..." Rashi says that only Aaron's sons are mentioned, because Moses taught them Tora, therefore they are counted as Moses' offspring. Also in Yosef's dream, he saw the sun and moon bow to him. The sun was his father, but since his mother had already died, so was the moon? Rashi says the moon represents Bilha who raised Yosef as if he had been her own son. So on a spiritual level, Yosef counts as Bilha's actual son.
Also converts to Judaism are as if adopted into the Jewish people. Ezekiel 47:22-23 says that the offspring of converts will inherit the Land of Israel when Mashiach comes, according the tribe with whom they dwell. The converts will be grafted into specific families leading all the way back to Yaakov. (That will be very important in the future, since so many innumerable Jews today are descended from converts, from ancient times, and who can guess who they are?)
Also King Shaul's daughter's adopted children are counted as King Shaul's own grandchildren in the Heavenly court to atone for the persecution of the Gibeonite converts.
So it seems to me, that from TaNaCh, adoption counts with the utmost seriousness in spirituality before haShem.

I've heard this explanation many times and it never makes sense to me. Your Jewish ethnicly regardless of which parent is Jewish. But in Torah the religious covenant is made through the paternal not the maternal. Women are not circumcised, so how does the maternal decide this? Moses was circumcised therefore his wife being one flesh with him automatically inters into covenant through Moses. So how does a child inter into religious covenant through the maternal?

There you go using the Torah instead of man made traditions. It is through the father in scripture perhaps the converts are using the talmud, qabbalah or something outside or in addition to scripture.

It is in Torah that the Mother creates a child. The mother gives the Soul nourishment. If a woman is sexually attacked, sometimes they do not know who the father is, but the child is what the mother is.
In Ezra, and in Deuteronomy 7, it says that a Child is Jewish if the mother is Jewish.

You most definitely don’t have to know your father to be considered a human being.Tell that that to Queen Ethster/Hadassah and Moses prince of Egypt. G-d uses imperfect situations all the time to spread his love.
