@@Chandru-co4un Rick has had a ton of these done, restorations of antiques like this thing, chairs, motorcycles, cars. He has never haggled price, the restorer gives an estimate, things happen many times the end price is higher than the estimate, Rick has never complained on price. The only comment he ever made when an estimate was higher was, "Its worth it, and that's why they call it an estimate!"
@@Chandru-co4un No. Anyone who buys old antiques and tries getting them restored back to shape do not ever try and haggle/dumb down the price. They give estimates on the cost necessary to fix what's potentially broken/rusty/in need of replacement and that's what you pay. If you even try to lowball them they can basically hand the item right back and tell you to kick rocks. And it'll be the same for anyone else in the end: you pay what they estimate or do it yourself.
I don't get restorations in most cases. I can understand removing rust. But as a collector I avoid restorations like the plague. Even if it means it looks a little ratty, a restored product doesn't feel authentic.
1:33 if you're the guy knows about that it's going to be worth like 450$ dollars for that Coca-Cola machine you also wear that's a old classic from the '60s.
They destroyed it. Yes u could just as well by a plastic one in Asia. It's that it is old and original and you can see it that can make it worth money.
That box actually had a good look of age before being "restored", but now it looks like a shiny modern toy and tonally lost its charm as an antique. Antique should not be "restored" using modern materials just to look "new" and "nicer" in my opinion, just like numismatic coins should not be cleaned, once they do they lose value significantly. I have no idea why some people are willing to buy the so-called "restored" collectables, can how can they even tell if it's a genuine antique under those shiny paints and not a modern reproduction?
ABACUStoPC as an antique collector, I absolutely do don't but things that were repainted or restored. Most of the value is that it is original. Once it's painted your no longer touching what they used back then, instead your touching a shell with the reminiscence of the real thing. At least that's what I see
@Martin P You're definitely not an antique collector since you would know that specific things like branded coke products are restored just like this, because a collector wants the original look since there was no craftsmanship in a factory made product, in this case you're paying for nostalgia, brand or just simply the Coca Cola "look" . If you're talking about furniture, guns, coins...etc.. then those fall into their own categories in terms of how collectors want them to look or restore.
mackjeez I’m an antiques collector as well and I’ve of the same opinion. Collecting antiques for me is about collecting history, if it’s been repainted then it doesn’t show the history anymore. It’s age is only as good as my word in that case.
no there not scammers they just have chumps for customers the customer could have gone and got a apraisel themselves but chose not to they could have googled it and chose not to they could have sold it there damn self but chose not to the custoemr wanted quick easy cash on the spot and thats what they got mean while the pawnshop took on the financial risk themselves for restoring and finding a buyer
Im a Coca Cola collector. Ive seen these sell at a national Coke convention for $4000 plus if its original , has the booklet that originally came with it and the box it came in. This nice restoration would fetch around $3000 at a convention. My friend sold a pretty nice one on Ebay for $1800. That was ten years ago.
@B.Launders how can I find collectors in southern California? I picked up a full size unit just like that one they restored. It definitely needs restoration or if some woukd like to use it as it is. I've listed fir sale on fb marketplace and offer up for weeks now. I'd like to find the right place to offer it for sale. Thanks.
Notice how they don't ever mess with their restoring guys. What they say its gonna cost is what it is going to cost you can't low ball them.
Even if it comes out being higher than agreed they will still pay what they want on the day presented.
Rick would have!!!

Ricks Restoration were crooked.
If someone would have brought that restored, they would had say it doesn't worth as much as if they have kept it original.

For the look of the two of them, they spent all the profit on burgers

Thats my opinion too, he might have used a synthetic paint, its a horrible thing now. ( see my comment above)
I absolutely agree, if I'm going out to spend thousands of dollars on an antique, it better LOOK like an antique

Rick Dale the restoration genius
Coke sales reps dont have to carry any merchandise these days. Coke sells itself.
why are there still coke ads wise guy
I hope Corey called the seller up and gave him atleast $400 more!...ya right
Can anyone tell what kind of sunglasses "Big Hoss" is wearing in this episode clip?
I am starting to think even the experts are full of crap. I believe they're also spoon-fed all the information before the show and regurgitate it.
Mr Brown drank Coca Cola famously.
The coke machine was ruined, just new whereas it had time and character before.

The size of Corey here. Jeez.
