Gerry Anderson’s 2005 CGI series New Captain Scarlet is getting an international release via Amazon. The high definition episodes will launch on the 29th September 2017 - the 50th Anniversary of its predecessor - the classic 1967 series Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons.
To celebrate the release, a free episode ('Rat Trap') will be available on the Gerry Anderson UA-cam Channel, and Gerry Anderson Facebook page until the 31st October, so fans can experience Gerry's reimagining in high definition, free of charge.
Gerry Anderson’s classic cult 1960s TV series was reimagined by Gerry Anderson and his production company Anderson Entertainment in 2005. The retro-metabolised version of the iconic children’s show was called ‘Gerry Anderson’s New Captain Scarlet‘ and it used motion-capture CGI Hypermarionation instead of the traditional Anderson puppets, bringing the show firmly into the 21st century.
Series 1 (the first 13 episodes) are being released globally on Amazon, with series 2 coming out later in the year. New Captain Scarlet is also now available on Blu-ray in the UK for the first time thanks to Network Distributing and is available from the Gerry Anderson store at gerryanderson.co.uk.
Included on the Blu-ray set are episode-specific audio commentaries with voice artists David Lane and Wayne Forester, and the late Gerry Anderson himself. New Captain Scarlet was the last TV project that Gerry Anderson oversaw before his sad passing in 2012. At 76 during the making of Captain Scarlet, his enthusiasm to entertain, inspire and excite audiences continues to this day.
Series synopsis:
In the year 2068, peace on Earth is maintained by the Spectrum Organization, with colour coded agents led by Colonel White and the Angels, a crack team of female fighter pilots. After an altercation and an unprovoked attack on the Mysterons on Mars, the Earth is plunged into conflict, with only Spectrum standing in the defence of Earth.
The Mysterons become sworn enemies of Earth, cunning opponents able to recreate exact likenesses of objects or people. But first they must destroy…
Two Spectrum agents lead the fight: Captain Black, who is corrupted by the extraterrestrial menace. And one man fate has made indestructible. His name, Captain Scarlet.

This is one of our favourite episodes of Gerry Anderson's 2005 reinvention of his classic series. But what do you think? Is it one of your favourites too?
Gerry Anderson Not actually one of my absolute favourites, to be honest, but it really had some great action scenes like Lieutenant Green firing *green* lasers. (Wonder why though?)
Thought it was brand new until now, but it's 14 YEARS OLD!!
I'm in tears of joy, I wondered how Lt Green is an XO maintaining the rank of Lt? Then the Col. gives her a promotion at the end wow! 😭Beautiful ending ❤️❤️ I think she should reconsider and accept the promotion and a very short while. But still stay on as the executive officer or if not taking the promotion have her do more field Ops.

Gerry Anderson I was watching your video right now
And I even have a watch superMarionation
Shows like fireball XL5 stingray thunderbirds
Captain scarlet and the Mysterons
And Joe 90 but I did watch one show is Thunderbirds
I watch on Amazon it is pretty good I did watch fireball XL5 for once
I did watch stingray introwhich is pretty good
I did watch Captain Scarlet
And last but not least Joe 90 I hope I can watch the first episodes for superMarionation on Amazon
After want to watch first episodes want to react to it I can watch any episodes if I want
Because I’ve never watched any of them yet I know superMarionation was a puppet British company
I can still watch it on Amazon prime because I’m American so thank you anyways🙂👍 this is Aiden Alexander berkenbile
Because that’s my real name so thank you for that
Enjoy!
Seriously, when this series was aired I didn't even hear about it: and I'm a big fan. It was such a great series, and I really, REALLY hope the producers make more.
This version of Captain scarlet added a new dimension to the telling and updated continued story of what was a brilliant original idea whilst I didn't appreciate it when itv shoehorned in into a Saturday morning kids show it deserved to be treated better than it was
That was some pure Andersonesque terror. There were moments when I felt genuine concern for Scarlet even though I knew he would either make it out OK or at most get "sick leave" for the next few hours. That being said, two thumbs up!
Interesting to see this up. Great script from Phil Ford, excellent voice cast, amazingly atmospheric music from Crispin Merrill and a studio full of talented animation creatives wrangled by Ron Thornton. Gerry was very proud of Scarlet and pushed what was possible with the tech available as far as it would go. Loved working on this show
You known you've been drawn in by good action storytelling when you're 58 years old and CS is standing at the edge of the hull with a fatal blast wave coming at him, and you yell at your laptop screen, "Jump! Jump!"
S.I.G!
54 here and just discovered Cpt Scarlett and understand that i missed a lot as a kid..
No different to when your 60☺. will have to find more (just to see if it holds up you know!!).
I know, right!
YEP!! I'll even leave the Olympic Dive to Cpt Scarlet's Flare and Style .... (not a military feet/arms locked) - means I was totally INTO IT too !
the new angel interceptors are outstanding had the original ones as a child. This is a good update, well done.
I love those too and they are superbly reincarnated design to make their comeback! The original one had a vibe of Lockheed F104 Starfighter but this time, they are now sophisticatedly redesigned to put more in-depth details such as flaps, thrust vectored nozzles ( as I can see ), and the newly embedded canards. I could say the image is more resemble the Euro Fighters if we compared to the present fighter jets. The New Angeles are like newly designed jets with modern upgraded functions which kept the big frame of the original design as much as possible.
@@kennyraiden9346 The F104 Starfighter is one of my favourite planes, never noticed the similarities until now, thanks...
Gerry Anderson has ALWAYS been ahead of his time and has never failed to deliver quality entertainment. THANK YOU!
This technology is now beginning to appear. A very primitive version of this active camouflage is used by the Reaper UCAV drone and other modern UAVs.
Classic Scarlet plot. Earth build's a super tank/ship/jet/spaceship which of course is computer controlled and the Mysterons take it over.
Earth should stop building super weapons!
Throughout my childhood there was always an adventure of either Captain scarlet or joe 90 showing the enormity of ideas and what was right against what was wrong. So thank you Gerry Anderson his wife and the imagination of each shows writing!
The music was also original ideal for that future looking world and I always wishing I had Captain Scarlets abilities more so today with grandchildren and a grown up family living in financial slavery of someone elsewheres design!
When I first watched Fireball XL5 I was convinced we'd all be soon living on other planets, then Stingray and Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and everything since, just made me realise we seem to take one step forward and three back. Gerry was a prophet who nobody believed in and his series just got better.
It's more than 40 years since I saw a new episode of Captain Scarlet , but like so many " old timers ", I think I still prefer the original series
This really brings back memories. It’s a great episode and I really enjoyed this reinvention of Captain Scarlet as much as I love the original series too. I think sometimes that there are no comparisons between the two series, they are just as good as each other and I think if you mixed the original and this series in between episodes around each other, then I think it will all be really good.
I never thought I'd say it, but I actually prefer this series to the 1967 original. Phenomenal show!!
Absolutely!
Same!
Jack The Film Fanatic Ok then, I respect your opinion and I have my own.
Arrrrrrrghhh no way guys, the original is always bestest, lol 😎👍👍👍🇬🇧💃
This looks more dated than the 60's version and who else misses 'Dum, Dum, Dum, Dum Dum Dum Dum!!!'? Those of a certain age will know what I mean.
DMF : 🥁 🥁 🥁 🥁 🥁 🥁 🥁!!!
The staccato scene cuts. Original opening sequence was better too.
As awesome as the remake series is, I kind of miss the old days where Scarlet died in every episode.
Poor Scarlet... with enemies like you, who needs the Mysterons? :D
Gerry Anderson bit harsh, but I stick to what I said. The old days were better.
I work part time as a teacher, and in a recent workshop on how tv shows are more ‘soft’ in modern times, i showed the class an episode of classic Thunderbirds with the Fireflash sabotaging, versus the remade episode (with the hood stealing it), and they were shocked at a gunfight in a kids show, but even so thoroughly enjoyed it.
I also showed a different class the two pilot episodes of Scarlet. Needless to say they found the scene at London CarView far more shocking than being in Engineering.
DrewSavo we weren’t talking about your preference. Just you wanting him to die every week! 😂
Gerry Anderson well isn’t the whole concept of the character that he is ‘virtually indestructible’. So it needs to be shown.
@@DrewSavo he didnt die every week, maybe 50 percent of the time.
That was a fun ride! The communications headsets brought back some fond memories of previous incarnations.
synchro505 Indeed. And I’m surprised NOBODY has designed a replica of that hat with Bluetooth technology that incorporates a drop down microphone and allows you to conduct conversations. Even the visor could be redesigned to become a mini flip down screen showing text messages.......
Hang on....!!! That’s MY idea! My copyright! Hands of it you lot.....I’m going to be a millionaire 😃👍......🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just kidding 😏
@@datathunderstorm I'll buy one when you get into production 😀
oh god, I used to love this as a kid
Much as I like Scarlet in general, the opening broke my suspension of disbelief enough to wreck the episode for me. Fancy visual stealth tech I can accept, but it sure won't do you any good at all when you'd tearing around at 50 knots. That camo isn't going to hide your wake and the spray you'd kick up one bit, and the enemy will just target the spot just ahead of the wake. Just too wrong to be ignored, and it could have been a complete non-issue if they'd just shown them stopping before going invisible instead of continuing to zip along. No wake, no revealing your position.
Maybe it was hard to produce the creation of the wake using strings 😂
50 knots as a future hydrofoil, psst, some warships can do that now, there were warships in WW2 that could hit 40 knots, and what about the wake, there is going to be some, even up on foils.
I`m going to classify the Proteus as a stealth capable-guided missile destroyer. The feature of this warship has an aerodynamic shape strikingly resembled the 5th-generation stealth jets which cooperate to reduce RCS ( Radar Cross Section ). This ship is embedded with an optical camouflage capability to being avoided from hostile radar and sensor scans. When the threats cannot be fooled, she will kick up the shift to the next phase. The Proteus can accelerate up to 50 knots when she engaged a hydrofoil function and jet-thrust propulsion is activated as it switched from the conventional propeller-driving force. This could solve to minimize a wake contrail its produced as little as possible. If the heat signature of jet thrusters is detected to attack, the Proteus will shift into taking an intercepting action by SAMs, CIWS, and chaff/flares to eliminate the vampires. Each of these systems can work individually and simultaneously which is according to my speculation. Let me emphasize on a hydrofoil a little bit more to put the details. Conventional ships like a destroyer are hampered by the added resistance from waves and heavy seas which her speed is slowed by the rough water especially under the stormy weather. The hydrofoil is the answer to these problems and the Proteus is built as stable and reliable, versatile, and maneuverable to be operating in heavy seas despite the wave conditions are rough or calm. Furthermore, she is designed around to be equipped with a giant outrigger on each side which provides extra stability, especially in high-speed cruising. I`m not sure how do they contribute to the ship`s agility and maneuverability in both attacking sequences and taking evasive action. There could be the theory that exists here which I may not know so I just leave room to discuss for that. The Proteus would be or would have been a serious game-changer of the Naval tactical warfare and strategy. It is classified ( I did ) as a guided-missile destroyer with stealth capability, the question remained on what makes her as a game-changer? Of what? In what warfare? The following statements are going to be completely my personal guess. The Proteus is probably designed as a warship to perform a multi-role mission which is thought to be a primary purpose. As far as we can see, the Proteus is built to carry out not just for fleet defenses, but also to act as an independent-strike vessel such as surface warfare. Literally, she is such a shapeshifter as a Greek God. Lastly, although the Proteus is a fictitious weapon, it is so attractive work of art and too bad it has been gone down. I can come up with a ton of ideas to writing scripts involved with this destroyer that can run for a single season at least. I hope someone out there besides me is interested in watching those. Definitely, it`s one heck of the boat.
I know comparing this to the original shouldn't be done but I do miss the into to the original series, that opening still gives me the chills
I remember captain white and captain scarlet had a distinctive voices in fact all the regulars did theses voices should have been mimicked
Growing up as a 10-year-old kid I was captivated by the poppet tv series that were around in the 60's it was a great time being a kid back then.
Cool ! If not Cooler then the original, Well done, very watchable. Long Live Anderson !!!
The original was the very best Gerry Anderson series
Love this series, an underrated British jem 🇬🇧💎😄‼️
A great episode! Even if Green isn't a field officer, she can still hold her own and shows she truly deserves her place as White's XO. I love how she goes from stroking White's hair in comfort to being scared and uncertain as the bots arrive, to getting into full-on mama-bear mode to get rid of them. Yes, technically she's doing her duty, but it's clear that there's more than that. She's protecting a man who is her boss but probably also a father figure to her as well.
Good to see Proteus' spell checker finally kicked in! ;-)
Call me old fashioned but nope, this does nothing for me. I much prefer the originals.
Not fond of Captain Scarlet's new voice, either. ='[.]'=
You're right...
They made Lieutenant Green look very cool this episode.
A great episode of what was in fact a very good series. Used to watch them with the children and often thought the quality of the animation could have been used for a Thunderbirds animated series - and in due course it happened! Guys, can we have some more "favourite episodes from favourite shows" please!
Blimney this holds up well, the animation looks enough like the originals to make it feel just right, but the story! Absolutely brilliant.
Glad you enjoyed, Ali!
I don’t know why I’m gonna watch this on UA-cam when I have the Blu-Ray but why not... great episode.
Because it's fun to watch with other fans! :)
Gerry Anderson too true
As of May 19th 2019 {Sunday}, *10 Mysterons* have *_Disliked_* this video...😊
This remake is so underrated! I remember watching it every Saturday morning on Ministry of Mayhem on CiTV and enjoying it immensely! Still a brilliant show today!!
S.I.G Ben!
I used to adore ministry of mayhem ben!
@@MaxTheFun1995 It was great fun! Holly and Stephen were a great duo in presenting. :)
@@BenBernardSmith I still love both of them to this day!! 👌
I remember that, MOM was such a great kid's show and the presenters were great fun. Really brings back memories of a more innocent time.
Great episode, bit weird watching on my smartphone but still brilliant 👏
I've never seen NCS before. I have to say...I LIKE it!
That's why we post these things, Dale!
Considering how brilliant and rousing the original music score for Captain Scarlet was... this is... erm... meh?
It might grow on on you !
Come on, if someone doesn't turn CS into a full blown action film , I'll have to do it myself. Imagine the cast list, the special effects, the stunts AND the audience!!
Captain Scarlet was British ?
CLASSIC - Yup, in the original series he was... Nationality, English (Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons)
American (Gerry Anderson's New Captain Scarlet)... :)
I thought this was going to be rubbish.
I'd engaged nostalgic cynic mode before I watched it but I was wrong.
It's very good and I enjoyed it a lot.
Veritas Vincit thanks so much for the comment 😊
wow, that was pretty good, just missing the original music :)
The new music might grow on you..!
Absolutely loved New Captain Scarlet but really missed Ed Bishop`s voice as Captain Blue.
Well, sadly wasn't an option for this :(
Sadly Ed Bishop passed some time back ... pity, because he kinda made 'UFO' as Commader Striker ...
@@GerryAndersonTV Shame, although I wish to add Mike Hayley was absolutely perfect as Col White. Robbie was always going to have a difficult job with such an iconic role.
@@nigelft He certainly did.
Personally, I think the story telling is better than the original, the action is better, the secondary characters are more fleshed out: seriously, what's not to like?
Wish this series was continuing! Great fun to watch!
The Navy geek in me says she could have been promoted to full Commander, and still remain Col. White's XO ...
But Spectrum is not a naval force...
@@alanclarke4646
Didn't know that ... thanks.
Looks a little too much like MAX STEEL, ACTION MAN, or any of those other mid-'90s CGI cartoon series.
I missed this series originally. I was never a big fan of the original Captain Scarlet. But I bought the DVDs on a whim and loved them. Thought they were really well put together, the characters well fleshed out and the stories gripping. Well worth a re watch, something the original series suffers from.
White has a black lt all others are captains Captain black baddie
I would love to see this series made a other 4 seasons like many of Gerry Anderson's series we need more
Favourite episode? That's easy. Fallen Angels. Without a doubt.
Yes it is
That was lucky!
Did't know they remade it? I used to watch VHS box sets of it from my brothers collections, shame they didnt keep the English accent and the music plus the storys were a bit darker back then, all in all though a good effort though.
The update is fine. The Angel fighter from the 1970's, is one I fell in love with as an USAF brat, living in the U.K. I was a bit too young to really catch on to the plot, so these updates ones (like Thunderbirds are Go!) are real treats to watch.
I'm 61 and still loving episodes of the new Captain Scarlet. Though I always watch the original series on Tubi every so often. Just love the Supermarionation techniques from the original CS.
As of 15 May 2021, 74 mysterons have disliked this video. S.I.G.
First time seeing this. The animation is pretty good for 2005.
BUT too many of the characters have dead eye syndrome, not necessarily an uncommon problem with CG animation from the time, but it pushes them into Uncanny Valley territory and kind of ruins it for me. Ironic that the 69 series with its marionettes had more pleasant and believable-looking characters
Any vessel travelling on the surface of water will leave a wake, whether the ship is visible or not. Hadn't previously seen this rework of the original - fun, though some missteps.
Base on Gatchaman crowds
Captain Scarlet (Paul Metcalfe) Voiced By Wayne Forester Sounds Very Similar Keith Wickham Kerry Shale Gary Martin John Baddeley Roy Kinnear Lennie Weinrib Paul Grunert Frank Welker And Joe Besser Favourite Colour Green
6 UA-cam advertisement breaks in the first 9 minutes. Makes it unwatchable. Pity, as I'm a fan.
Lieutenant Green has had an operation since I last saw him.
Different character.
Lieutenant Green is now "Stunning & Brave", Bigots
Colonel White = The Man with the Golden Gun
Lt Green shows real grit in this episode, saving the Colonel and she is the lynch pin of them all escaping from the rogue ship but why hasn't she her own pistol? The one she uses is Scarlet's and not green. The story is good and the Mysterons obviously understand their enemy very well, knowing that all they have to do is start a war and let the humans eradicate each other, makes more sense than trying to kill us all themselves.
Must have more Supermarianation to CGI! These are great memories you revive on a lot of us, Mr.& Mrs. Anderson!
Fabulous, but they should reinstate the original 'Spectrum' logo!
Does not seem the same without the original theme song. Perhaps I am being nostalgic.
Someone should make postcards and/or a book of all those old paintings from the original series depicting CS meeting his end.
Great to see the new tech at work as I loved the original puppets and these digital puppets are a nice, evolutionary next step.
CGI is all very well, but it is hardly
SUPERMARIONATION!
No, Keith. You're quite right! Two entirely different methods of producing entertainment :)
where's the creepy voice from the begging?
Henry Kissinger was busy on recording day.... :)
In our ongoing war of nerves with aggressor Earth, we will no longer be giving away any clues.
Cool!
AWESOME ! :-)
I always felt that Captain Scarlett could easily make for a decent live action movie/series. My fear is that there's a lot of poor writing going on right now with a very poor quality contemporary sociopolitical/SJW angle to them. I'd be very worried what would happen to the Scarlet as a result of this kind of writing.
This was entertaining though. Some dialogue a bit cheesy but this has got plenty of potential.
Well done.
I agree with you. The Thunderbirds movie ( with real people ) is a good example. Now I do like parts of it. I don't think that will work today, except for very clever writing and effects. To bring back old " cartoons " from the 60's is hard. What I would like to see is a movie that combined the 2 most popular sifi shows......Doctor Who and Star Trek.
@@sficlassic The problem is, the shows you mention are the best examples of the exceedingly poor type of writing I'm referring to over the past couple of years where both brands bave been highly damaged as a result.
I was watching Picard recently and went back to an old TNG episode that was loosely linked to it and the quality was night and day. To say Star Trek didn't look at social justice and sociopolitical issues would be a false statement but how can I say this... it's like the show took a step back from all the issues going on at those times and asked ALL the audience to simply think about the them, and try to bring people - whatever their political persuasions - were together. It was massively inclusive and thought provoking and to me thats a sign of good writing.
CBS/Secret Hideout's flavour of what they call 'Star Trek' has been very combative about its leanings and both Alex Kurtzman and Michael Chabon have literally said what type of audience they don't want to have watching the show. They simply don't care about being divisive, sticking the finger up at long time fans - even upsetting the licensed merchandisers. Secret Hideout is blatant about the angle it takes. Unlike Star Trek between original series, right up to Enterprise, their brand of 'Star Trek' tells you what to think.
Beyond sociopolitical issues, the current 'Star Trek' writing is exceedingly poor. Bad logical story progression, dialogue too soap opera like, lazy writing - all too ready to simply kill off legacy characters as an example, and quite often forgetful of events within their own canon, let alone the canon of the entire franchise.
Horrible cgi the originals always will be better !!!
My middle school best friend makes me discover this awesome series, i remember watching this with him at his birthday, so much good memories😀😀😀 I miss him😶😶😶

Well, it's out and waiting for you to grab a copy, Ian!
Just saw this now, great stuff, thank you !
I guess they didn't get the memo that...THE TUNE...
Was a BIG PART of the Original show's success !!!
YOU'RE SLIPPIN', PEOPLE !!!
Just ask ANYONE...
If THUNDERBIRDS would be the same without THE TUNE!
Or XL5, or STINGRAY, or JOE 90, or SUPERCAR !!!
WAKY WAKY !!!
I'm still upset that they canceled this and it had a cliffhanger ending in the episode Dominion when Captain Black survived.
Bring back New Captain Scarlet... please. Make more of them... two seasons was not enough!
As a concept it's fine, but I prefer the classic look better. I feel the same about most of the updates coming out around the same time from Hanna-Barbera. Good quality, just not the same. Sue me. I'm old.
Any Captain Scarlet is GOOD!!! SIG.
I wonder how they will find a way to turn his immortallity into an attack on women.
Oh my gosh I'm from New Zealand & I have never seen this. I'm going to watch this episode later. I've subscribed now, Spectrum is Green!
Excelente!!! Amo a Captain Scarlet desde mi niñez, hace ya varias décadas. Congratulations!! Y espero la continuación de UFO, ya que fueron muy pocos capítulos. Hoy tienen la tecnología para recrearlo.

ITV was the blame for this show not reaching its full potential its a shame that this show never got the same treatment like thunderbirds did. I used to watch the original captain scarlet with my dad when I was younger. I saw new captain scarlet advertised once then I never saw the show ever on TV.
I rather like this episodes
I’ve recently seen a few episodes of Fireball XL5 in cgi, which were pretty good. I do remember The New Captain Scarlet being broadcast originally and didn’t like it, but I’m ready for it now. 👍

Gerry, I just saw New Captain Scarlet - Proteus here in the US for the first time. It is amazing CGI, and it should be shown in the US today!
the plumbing ( ‘bathroom fitter ‘)drones of today have things made easier for them when crimping tools are all that’s necessary for making a joint but I’ve met 2 whom hadn’t a clue when faced with complicated gravity fed systems. On two occasions a home owner has called me to explain how water storage worked because the’ bathroom fitter’ was baffled about networks of pipework within a roof space and hadn’t seen a 100 litre cistern before ! When the fitter failed to even thank me for turning up I put it down to his non personality being due to sheer lack of a good old fashioned manners program & I realised he was after all just a drone . 🙄
