I absolutely LOVE when a UA-camr builds a TRUE junk journal out of JUNK!! Junk mail, tags, etc. I HATE to measure and I hate for my journal to look cookie cutter. REAL Junk journals will look different, unique as the Artist. THANK YOU for this video. These journals are not done enough.

I mean, junk journals reflect the artist in many ways.
Mine would be really uncanny to me if it was trully messy, i'm an aspiring illustrator and i would consider myself an ambicious person(over achiever? Maybeeeee…), so i'm a perfectionist by nature since i was little, everything HAS to be as i imagine it, otherwise it rubs me off the wrong way, like, "this ain't right".
That doesn't mean things have to look like in my head aaaaall the time, sometimes i improvise or make use of my head when it's empty to work a page without planning, but it will still look very "clean" and "polished" compared to a true junk journal or scrapbook, 'cause i'm that way, from my organization systems to my art journals and "messy" sketchbooks. Clean and neat, despite all my efforts of doing the opposite.
I wished i could have a junk journal this free of self judgement and my own expections, but well, i can't. I'm a cookie cutter journal bun 😂

FYI... in returning to the Yogi tea, If you look at the tab that is attached to the string that you hang on to when you pull the tea bag out of the brewed tea, look at the underside of that tab. There are lovely little sayings to brighten your day or give encouraging words. I didn't discover this until a few days ago, and I've been drinking that tea for a long time.!!! I also like to fold these tabs in half and use them for tabs on the edge of a JJ page. (other than the tea, I use the tea bag itself, the string, and now the tabs. Freebies are wonderful..!! jo

Shirt cardboards! When I was a kid in the '70s, my mom used to give me the white cardboard pieces that came with my dad's dress shirts. I loved to draw on them.

I did the same thing in the 90s :D
Actually, we just replaced a set of sheets and I still have the cardboard pieces sitting on my desk, they're so crisp and have a satisfying texture. Since I've been learning more about official names for these paper crafts, I've been hesitant to let them go 😂

I love so much about this video, Margarete. I currently have my entire art room packed away due to a home renovation, and I'm itching to do something creative (but failed to keep out any supplies). Collecting for a junk journal and even starting some pages using totally free and found items is the perfect creative outlet for me right now! And I also love the idea of setting aside a journal where you don't get wrapped up in using the "good" stuff or creating a theme or making it "perfect". Sometimes the best ideas come from having no strings attached, no preconceived notions, no "precious" materials. When my kids were younger and I was traveling to sporting practices, I used to have a vintage travel case with a journal and all of the small snippets and cast-offs from past projects that were lying around on my desk. I loved sitting outside or in the car working on these little gluebooks while I waited. I'll have to revive that habit on my back porch. Thanks for such inspiring ideas!

Lovely work, Margarete. Just a question: I’m making a recipe junk journal as a gift for someone. What would you do to protect the cover from food stains/liquids etc from spills that may occur during use ie cooking plz? I’d really appreciate yr advice. Thank you. 😊❤

Good question! Maybe some kind of varnish, though not Mod Podge. Liquitex has a matte varnish that puts a nice protective coating. I’d coat it about 3 times. 👍🏼

My mind has been blown by this. I have been hunting out guides with foreign language pages. Apparently, well, according to my other half, me claiming the pages in something Arabic from his power tool instructions manuals 50 pages past the English pages will mean the end of the world. 🙄 They will have to wait till he is out for me to rescue them 🤣

Hi Margarete! I just subbed! Yay! Anyway, I’m new to junk journaling and this kinda collaging, collecting sorta things. I’ve alway crafted but did more thrift flips and home decor type crafts. But just now I realized I’ve always done these sorts things just didn’t have a place for them that was as nice to look at, was in one place and organized. But I’ve been a scrape booker/junk journaler all along! Especially after watching your video about glue books! Who knew they were a thing? I’m late to the party! Oh well, better late than never right?! I enjoy your videos. See ya soon!

I do make my journals with the intention of actually journaling. I have a travel journal, an exercise journal, a food journal. Most recently I created a Faith journal. I do actually use my journals. I wonder how many people do create their journals to actually journal inside.

Sadly my post office no longer has a trash bin in the lobby. “someone” was afraid it was a good place to get personal info. So I can no longer get good free stuff from there. I’ve found neat stuff there in the past. My thinking is if it has any personal info, don’t toss it in public. ??

On one of my visits to Half Price Books, my car was parked by the trash bin. Of course I peeked in and it was full of book that they always say they will "recycle". There were a ton of children's books and a few other books I grabbed. It had started to rain and it broke my heart to know all those books would be ruined. HPB never gives you a good price to buy books to resell. But they throw out instead of donating.

To be honest, there are very few places they can donate books. Most libraries don’t have room for old books. And most recycling places don’t take books. Some places still do take them but, if they don’t have room where else can they go but into their trash. Especially if they are damaged or mildewed. It is a sad fact of life in the life cycle of books…

I'm trying to be kind here, but maybe you should read the description under the video. The description does not say that she is showing you how to create a journal. She's showing you free things that you can put in your Junk journals. She did exactly what her description says. Like she says, you can't please everyone. Have a good day.
