It's refreshing to see someone using actual junk to make a junk journal, not printables, or pretty cardstock... I think that was the entire premise of a junk journal - they were meant to be made out of things you had lying around the house. They've almost lost their meaning.

When I started jj'ing in 2020 I found it rather stressful to use the beautiful papers. It wasn't until I learned to use actual junk that I found the stress free creating I was looking for. I love these kinds of videos especially when they are asmr.

I love, love, love a true junk journal. I HATE when UA-camrs are trying to sell downloads or encouraging downloads on their site. Doing that sometimes makes for a better esthetic, but not the unique quality and art of a true junk journal.

Love the brown paper bag with the cockatoo on it. Using empty tissue boxes are good too, love the butterfly bag as well. Opp shops are a good place to get ephemera and old music sheets or lace & material. Looks really good, thanks for the inspiration.

Good morning. Another idea I would like to share. When I get packaging boxes with pretty paper on it, I will cut the box down, and then I find a corner to peel of the layer of the paper. For the most part, it peels off easily. If not, no biggie because I use it for collage. I also do this with clothing tags. The labels come of easily, and then I have a card board base for my papers.

I totally agree. Some people are really just scrapbooking when they use all those “pretty, vintage, printables,” etc. They have missed the point of junk journaling, which is to use stuff that you usually throw away, as a way to recycle and move away from buying all the prettified stickers and things that the industry puts out to be bought.

I love the way the pretty journals look, but my personal preference is to work with real junk. It is a true record of everyday life. I still have bits and pieces of things I saved from when I was a child because I could see beauty almost everywhere. I somehow knew that one day I might want to remember the events, conversations and emotions these common objects invoked. Thanks for this tutorial.

When you makes the holes with the awl, push the awl farther down to make the holes bigger. Then it's easier to sew in your signatures. ❤❤

This junk journal really looks very pretty & viewing the whole process is very satisfying. But how come there are hardly any pages to journal on ? Or, is it not meant for actual journaling ?

Refreshing video! You inspired me to flip through the first junk journal I ever made-in 2020 when I discovered the craft on UA-cam-and it was all junk, no scrapbook paper or Tim Holtz or anything purchased. It has such a feeling of joy and creativity to it. I donated scrapbook paper, Temu, Amazon, craft store items and having a small amount of that stuff, and a larger amount of “real junk” is more inspiring. Too much stuff = overwhelmed. Thank you!

Love this. I'm fairly new to junk journaling, but I want to use more junk and less printables or even scrapbook papers. This came out really great. Loved the colors. I also loved what you said, "Don't ever let there constraints on how you create or why you create. Do what brings you joy!" Love this. I wrote this in my craft journal, just to remind myself when I start to wonder why I'm doing this. Great video!

I can't keep junk honestly. After I open something or use it, it goes in the recycling bin or trash. I just can't stand clutter. Even tho I have a ton of craft supply clutter, the idea of actual trash is too much for me lol I wish I could be more free spirted like this and keep random stuff to craft with, but my anxiety is just too much. I love watching people create and I'm amazed how their brains come up with this stuff, but I like a bit more structure I guess.

I really enjoyed this video on using things that would be thrown away. I love the idea of the printables but as I have no computer or printer that's not an option for me.
