Sadly, as good as the song was Slade were on the slide, glam rock was losing out to the emerging tripe that became disco and the raucous rockers like Mama had stopped. The band took a nine month break to make the film then went on a failed tour of the states which was nearly fatal. Years in the wilderness playing to hardened fans (such as myself) or what Dave Hill called "Chicken in a basket places" like Baileys of Watford only ended when they were asked to fill in for Ozzy Osbourne. The rest is history.
You put the history in a nutshell there yourself, mate. Thank you.@@fus149hammer5 PS I rem that prick Geldof (he's despised over here) on Irish TV in '77 or '78 saying "We don't want to end up like Slade" (you should have been so lucky, Sir Major Bob).
Still listening to this in 2022. With everything that is going on in the world at the moment this song is even more poignant. Also happens to be Slade’s finest song ever.
The problem was, they only played the big anthem songs of SLADE on the box, if you bought a SLADE ALBUM you got all the songs they dun, and you,d realise how good their other work was , long live SLADE. PEACE BE WITH YOU MY FRIENDS. 🙏 😎✌✌🏴🏴
We all know 'Mama', 'Noize' 'Jane' and that bloody Christmas song and we all rock out to them. I will love those songs until it's my time for my last journey and even then I want Noddys voice to send me off but to me the best songs written by the boys? 'Far Far Away' and 'How Does It Feel?'. Sublime music criminally underrated by the ignorant masses. Their song writing talent easily matches those two overrated gits from Liverpool.
Ninety five percent of hall of fame inductees are American. Just check the listings. Slade have no chance. To this day the best reaction they'd get over the water is "Oh yeah they did a cover of that Quiet Riot song".
This band don’t belong in a hall of fame,,, we already know who they are 4 exceptionally talented musicians creating some of the best music ever written songs sang by one of the finest oralists who ever opened his mouth,,, and all still with us to this day,,, if ever there was a sign from god then surely that is it,,, ladies and gentlemen the world brings you SLAYYYYDE,,, how does that feel 🙏

Brilliant stuff. Slade in Flame...... my first ever music , bought for me by my dad in about 1975, along with a mono cassette player and Band on the Run, also on cassette. Slade...so much more than just loud....
We can't always like the same things, But I don't care to much what the rest of the world thinks, I just know this film is great, and the band even greater. Happy 2021 folks ! We love you !!
Absolutely Brilliant timeless song.........can never understand why Slade have never been invited to Glastonbury......They were and still are a band certainly worthy of it.

I've rediscovered this song recently after being reminded of it in a recent interview with Dave Hill in the Guardian. It's funny how some songs regain currency years later. Just last night C4 News used this song in an end piece commerating the first anniversary of the pandemic in this country. Against a backdrop of video and stills from inside hospitals, vaccination centres, kids with their faces pressed against window panes, the song took on a poignancy in the context of a year of struggle and tragedy faced by Britain. I can't think of a more suitable piece of music, expressing both sadness and optimism in the face of loss and change.
Nod the God... Somebody said Robert plant he could not hold a candle to this Man he is undoubtedly the best rock singer to come out of these shores!! Even turned down ACDC that tells you something
Slade were a terrific band. Although they were very successful in commercial terms, I always felt that they didn't get the critical respect that they deserved. This is great pop/rock music.
l know alot more than noddy holder saying shouting its Christmas l dint known there did so much good past songs till about 2006 -2007 l grew in the 80s and 90s

I was still a schoolboy in 1974. Late in the evening, my friend and I rode the subway after a workout in the gym, there were not many people in the underground carriage, and we listened to Slade “In Flame”. It was great ! It was one of the first recordings on my tape recorder, which my parents gave me for entering the university after school one year later !

this song, along with the footage of Slade in Flame, sums up when Britain suddenly changed for the worst. It seems somewhere in 1975 the whole country went down the shithole and greed became the new god. Gone went the innocent days and in came hate and violence, it can't be a coincidence that all the country's ' slums ' ( and I was proud to come from one on Tyneside ) were being demolished and replaced by highrise flats where the soul of the Community was destroyed. Well done Slade, you captured THE defining moment in this brilliant song and film. I always feel sad when listening to this for a past that has gone forever and a terrible world we now live in has emerged, cheers lads.
The 'Greed' was nothing like the greed this last 20 years. The country was down the shitter back then and mostly because of the unions taking the piss. Slade were, of course, the antidote.
