Just gotta love it when the trucker gets right in there talking the talk and walking the walk. He looked more like he was on the way to teach a high school class rather than drive a heavy hauler. You are right Ron, you can get the measure of the man pretty quick and this guy was the real deal. Sure beats the guy that sits in the cab playing on his cell phone throughout the entire recovery!
Heavy haul drivers have some of the greatest depth of knowledge and experience. The loads they haul aren't just expensive, they take a long time to manufacture. If that load gets damaged or destroyed in transit it could set a project back the better part of a year or longer.
He obviously knew his stuff, doing towing and recovery in the military. No way Ron would have let him help otherwise. That’s an amazing rig. I lived in Phoenix when one of the big transformers at the Four Corners nuclear power plant died years ago. We were under rolling blackouts until the replacement made its way from Washington state, and the truck bringing it was on every news channel so we could see its progress… when we had power. It came on a very similar rig. All respect to the owner/operator despite getting stuck in the mush. Like Ron said it happens to everyone.
@@markfergerson2145 Even so, you notice Ron double-checked the hook placements himself, even after the driver looked, fixed, and okayed them. Not out of distrust, but because its Ron's own responsibility, and he takes it seriously.
This driver is a breath of fresh air in this day and age man. Not just sitting around doing nothing, no shorts, no flips flops. A PROFFESIONAL. I wish I was driving when these men and women took PRIDE in this craft.
It is great to see true professionals, (even the bystanders) working at a job together. Not seat occupiers wearing sandals, but workers who dress, act professionall, and know their trade
I drove for 14 years before my body got too old. I loved talking to the old heads. The stories they would tell would fill volumes. Always there to help if you needed anything. These guys nowadays don’t know what it takes to be a real truck driver. God bless them all.
This is definitely going into my list of favorite Midwest Truck videos! 2 good ol boys talking about trucks and work they've done...AWESOME! That's also a tractor that, even in its day, was VERY seldom seen on the road by most of us. A C-500 KW tridem with what appears to be a Double Eagle "apartment" out back. That sleeper probably added $75K to the price tag when new. As always, be safe and God bless you, your crew and your equipment.
As another Aussie, Yep! I just love that tri drive 👍Old mate seemed like a nice bloke who actually knew a bit but so respected what you do, as we all do!! Thanks for sharing!
I love the mutual admiration society thing going on here. A big reason I've stuck around and subscribed to your channel vs. some of the other towing ones I've watched is your unfailing politeness & respect for everyone you meet.
Your attitude to these jobs Ron - it's really something to be admired, and sadly lacking in my experience. You did what you were asked. Then you got out your pry-bar, and went (literally) fishing in the mud for the guy's blocks, just out of goodwill, humanity and comraderie. I've said it and I'll say it again, hats off to you Sir - and all the Midwest Team, as I see you all keep the same ethos and principle.
To see the driver so excited to be able to ride in the rotator is amazing. It was awesome seeing that c5 in the states! Ron, well done and what a great friendship you’ve just created!
Heck, I don't think Tator was even breathing hard for that lift! I didn't hear you say how much your scale showed for the lift. Good video, Ron. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and healthy.
Mr. Pratt every time I watch your videos I absolutely enjoy the engineering, your thought process, and safe professional conduct of your site operations. Your customer service and watching you teaching your youngsters is awesome.
I love it when management is out there doing the same job as the workers. They seam to be the best crews to work with...Back in the early 2000's I did allot of greyhound bus trips... I always loved talking to the truckers that where being sent to the new yard to get there new truck there. This guy so reminds me of them how they have the gift for gab...
Seems like on a high value load like that that they picked the most capable man they had. And as a manager he probably relished a chance to get on the road for a few days.
What a beautiful old Kenworth. A real brute, too. The owner seems like a real nice guy, and he's rightfully proud of that rig. You did a great job of helping him out of his predicament, Ron. Your friend in Australia will love those pictures. Lots of heavy hauling going on down there. Road trains, heavy weights, Kenworth and Peterbilt tractors.
It was really great to watch two professionals talking the talk!! Bit like a mutual admiration society,!! Love the Kenwood. It just oozes power and charisma!! Thanks Ron, for another great vid. Best Wishes from the UK. Roy W
That's a super enormous load to haul around. The driver has to be extremely knowledgeable on how to maneuver that load and Ron is extremely knowledgeable on how to to all the different recoveries he is called to do.
Ron, everything you do is a class act from the way you treat others to the methods you use to compete the task. The various types of machinery and heavy haulers that you are called to rescue are interesting events for your fans.
Just had a call last night with broken landing gear on a box trailer. The irony that watching all your videos helped me know how to assess the situation! Keep up the great work!
Great video, Ron. I really enjoyed the conversation with the heavy load trucker. I smiled at your excitement at seeing his truck!! Stay safe out there!
When I worked at Komatsu in Peoria Illinois the Canada trucks came in to pick up the mining trucks and they were that big. It was amazing to watch them maneuver their trucks through the plant tiny roads. When you were telling everyone to stand back in case a chain broke, we were in our land and the company used a triple wide trailer hooked to the semi. Just driving through the muddy area i got stuck and so we had maintenance come out with a large loader to move it. They hooked a chain up and everything being so heavy the chain broke and we never found most of it. It made a huge pop and I guess the chain stretched out more than it could handle. At least nobody got hurt.
Good morning Ron and to the Midwest team .....I must say that was one beautiful Kenny and the sound of that horsepower was like music to the ears and the way you went out of your way to make your customers happy hats off to you and your team have a bless day sir
I absolutely enjoyed this video! The trucker was an amazing gentleman who had the gift of gab down to an art! This made me feel like i was hanging out with my dad back on the farm working along with the guys. Yep, I was that girl who hung out at the shop and drove farm trucks. I could really appreciate the power that old Kenworth had. Nice job! Got to make you say it was a great day and a pleasure doing that recovery. God bless always!
Thumbs up, great vido, Thanks for bringing us along on your days adventure, Like the extra details on your rotator compared to other rotators out in the field
Very informative, very entertaining listing to this gentleman talk and Tator did a wonderful job. Plus that KW was a beauty. I like listening to people like him as you can learn a lot about days gone by and maybe even pick up some relevant tips. Thanks for the awesome video Ron. I hope your friend enjoyed this video and those pictures.
Great cooperation between two experts of their fields, both of them enamored by the others equipment, I so had to laugh at the driver saying he'd rather ride with you 😂
Such a nice guy.. and what a rig 😍😍 you two could have been mates for years, the way you both got along, and the mutual respect. Great to see in this day and age!
Wow! Ron that definitely was a good one. And you can tell that gentleman is an old Army Soldier. I was able to tel by certain things that he'd said regarding Recovery with Army Wreckers. I myself was in a Fwd/DS (Direct Support) Maintenance Unit. And I remember a lot of the terminology that we'd used by listening too him. Great job as usual Mr. Ron!😊😊
Hi Ron. I am a 30 year retired truck driver, now a pilot driver. I have looked at a lot of permits in my day and i know the DOT issued them. Looking at many of the permits now i am convinced the Department of Tourism issues them, and they want you to see all the back country. Be safe and keep up the good work.
The one thing that amazes me the most is that you can accomplish a lot with that rotator of yours Ron. I know you will probably get some jobs that you cant do because of the maximum weight buy its still awesome to watch the ones that you can do. Thanks for sharing my friend. God Bless in all you guys do.
Thanks Ron for the quick lesson on the use of the pulleys. You must have paid attention in geometry and physics classes in high school, and then beyond. Great content.!
Its awesome when you run into someone that can talk shop and they know what they are talking about. I could probably talk to that truck driver all day.
It would be very interesting to know how many miles are on his truck, how many inches in the hell he has been able to keep it in such pristine condition. What true gentlemen both of you are.
Those good old boys are what got me into trucks. Hearing all their story's and their advice has influenced me since I started washing their trucks at 17. I got my cdl at 18, started wrenching on them at 19. Now I own a truck I'm restoring, and wrench on a fleet of them full time at 23. Sadly all the old timers I worked with are retired now. I wish I wrote down some of their experiences. I learned more mechanical advise from the older drivers than our shop supervisor. Keep on trucking good buddy, keep our industry alive
Absolutely not. Most of us don’t understand how to do the job, but we are learning a great deal from your channel. I would have loved to have it 20 years ago. 💪💪💪💪💪💪
That triple steer Miller Century 100 ton rotator is on a Peterbilt 567 up in Danbury CT. They got pockets alright Modzelewskis towing! I see their rigs almost daily when I’m rolling down the highways coming into CT. It is indeed a incredible machine
Would have been cool to see a time laps of that lift as you can see the gap between the top of the tool boxes and the back of the boom get bigger as the truck flexes under the weight.
One thing to remember is when they test maximum loading weights on things is they often rate things lower than what the item can actually handle. Quite often they'll handle way more than what they are rated at.
Yes, but from a safety perspective you have to following the WLL's. If there was an accident and the rigging failed you'd be in big time trouble if you knowingly exceeded WLL's. It can also damage the rigging if you exceed the WLL.
We have just seen two of the true knights of the road...Sir Ron Pratt and the Gentleman of the Heavy Haul. They are two true Professionals, know what it takes to get the job done.
More likely the jobs follow the fan base. With the exposure the company has gotten by word of mouth, and these documentaries, everyone in the tri state area calls them.
Ron looked like he had so much fun, I’d be surprised if he charged the guy. Lol. That Kenworth is beautiful. I wish we would have had a tour of the inside.
Another great video about a job well done! The hardest part seemed to be digging the board pads out of the holes with the pry bar! You sure didn't have to ask that guy twice if he wanted to ride with you back to the shop!
Haven't been here in awhile (sorry), but that intro with the brass instruments and drums is one of my favorites on yt!! Great content as i remember as well!
Hard to say who was more excited. Ron about the Kenworth, or the Driver about the Tator.
That Kenworth is one sweet rig.
they ONLY say you have to grow old....they DON'T say you have to grow up ;)
Both are awesome trucks.
Hahahaha yea. That Kenworth was cool though
True

Always helps when you have people who understand what has to be done and how to help get it done safely.
Doesn't take very long to seperate those that know/do and the BS.

To see the driver so excited to be able to ride in the rotator is amazing. It was awesome seeing that c5 in the states! Ron, well done and what a great friendship you’ve just created!
Good morning everyone!!!
Good evening from Australia
Haha... I made it into another video, but this time via whatsapp 😂
Heck, I don't think Tator was even breathing hard for that lift! I didn't hear you say how much your scale showed for the lift. Good video, Ron. Thanks for sharing.

just a light stretch ;)

25 years, one owner truck and it still looks perfect
I know Ron that just had a warm your heart! Having someone that speaks your language and I do too I own a smaller tow truck business!

10pm, Australian Eastern time and Ron Pratt drops in. Niiiice
I wondered why Ron was taking pics as he could just send the video. Then realized that he was sending them right then.

2 true professionals giving each other assistance. Neither one of the men treated the other as less than. Respect
Your customer needs to see the Tow Truck Museum in Chattanooga, TN. Nice discussion and education. I like his truck.
That's a super enormous load to haul around. The driver has to be extremely knowledgeable on how to maneuver that load and Ron is extremely knowledgeable on how to to all the different recoveries he is called to do.

Great video, Ron. I really enjoyed the conversation with the heavy load trucker. I smiled at your excitement at seeing his truck!! Stay safe out there!
Great rescue and fun to listen to him talk about the military training he had. Also that is a sweet truck the heavy haul had
As retired military myself, I found that most interesting.
i can not get over how it pulled 108K KGs like it was nothing
what a gorgeous truck, by far my favorite kind to see on the road rolling around

Gotto love that big rig. Heavy hauler , could watch that for hours. Super nice guy too. You and he make a good team. Both very helpful and friendly.
That Kenny is one sweet ride!! She is a worker for sure. The was really cool. You had an instant connection with him. This was a fun job.
What a BEAUTIFUL truck! The driver was a really great guy, seemed very friendly with a great personality.
Ron you go out of your way to help people. The Lord will continue to bless you, abundantly.
Ron's towing, lifting, and occasionally digging service! Very nice!
Fantastic customer, knowledgeable, respectful, and ready to work. I enjoyed the conversation and the work. Great Video.

Glory be!
Nice tractor!
Love the polished sleeper.
This was an informative video. Lots of technical specs.
You two needed a stiff drink, a couple of rocking chairs, and a sunset. 😅

May god take care of your all family and staff, kind regards Ken.
Nah, that driver's a pro.
Beautiful old KW. Nice to see the old rigs still running.
How often does your fanbase follow you around on a job? Fun video, thanks Ron!
More likely the jobs follow the fan base. With the exposure the company has gotten by word of mouth, and these documentaries, everyone in the tri state area calls them.
The way Ron was talking about that new recovery truck was like "hey, can I get this for Christmas?" HA ha, man that thing looks amazing and complex.
yeah it doesnt take much to get that big beast to punch holes into the soft ground but you got it done the best way possible
thanks to a lifetime in the construction industry and watching Ron's vids - i'm learning what it takes to do the recovery job.
Ron , you are the most kind and even tempered gentleman! Always enjoy watching your videos!
Now that was worth watching just for the Kensworth alone, thank you Ron for the wonderful entertainment, God bless
Ron looked like he had so much fun, I’d be surprised if he charged the guy. Lol.
That Kenworth is beautiful. I wish we would have had a tour of the inside.
Wow what a interesting trucker who doesn't look like one. An yes that TRUCK is gorgous
That was one good looking KW with lots of power! Good job Ron!
Another great video about a job well done! The hardest part seemed to be digging the board pads out of the holes with the pry bar! You sure didn't have to ask that guy twice if he wanted to ride with you back to the shop!
Ron's channel is my favorite to watch!!
Another outstanding job. It's exciting when other people show an interest in the task at hand. STAY SAFE.
Would have loved to see inside that sleeper! Great video as always, made the job look easy
My parents had an RV dealership. So of course I would be interested too!
It is not often you get a chance to geek out over a truck with someone else!
Ron
Next time you photograph a truck.
Remember the 1/3 2/3,s rule.
One third sky, two thirds land. Or vise versa.
Haven't been here in awhile (sorry), but that intro with the brass instruments and drums is one of my favorites on yt!! Great content as i remember as well!
Now that guy was what I call a professional truck driver with respect. Loved his truck.
