Thank you for being a certified sicko ❤
Thanks again for the list Emma! Ever since Speak No Evil, I’ve been on the lookout more than ever for disturbing thrillers and horrors. Please keep making lists like this!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I was just headed down here to mention how surprised I am that ‘Speak No Evil’ didn’t make the list. I’ve seen your other video (maybe it is in a few of your vids, I dunno, I’ve just seen the one) reviewing this movie, but I think it should still be here on this list. It was easily the most disturbing thriller I saw in 2022.
However, and as always, I appreciate the other recs. About to start ‘Downloading Nancy’.
The only film on this list that I’ve seen is ‘Soft And Quiet’, and I’m afraid unfortunately that movie was overhyped for me and didn’t have the same impact a lot of other people seem to be experiencing.
Did you see ‘You Won’t Be Alone’? I really enjoyed it and think you might too.
🧃
I am happy to be part of this group! This was such a fantastic list.
Thank you!!!
Honestly one of the BEST channels for horror that’s out there!! Truly is a GOAT and there’s not many out there that are not only this great but suggests movies I never seen and I didn’t know that was even possible!! Spooks does her homework for sure!! Can’t express how impressed I am! And the fact that there’s MULTIPLE people commenting about the same thing is amazing
At first I though, “yeah right, I’ve seen every dark disturbing movie available.” But you actually found some that I didn’t know existed (Soft and Quiet, and Profile). Can’t wait to check them out!
I knew I could find at least one!
I just recently watched Speak No Evil and it really has been echoing in my brain. I didn't expect it to linger or affect me, but it really really disturbed me.
Wow, Emma, I can’t believe you actually did a list featuring all movies I’ve never seen before. Insanity! I thought I had seen all the disturbing films haha. Great work! Can’t wait to seek them out. You’re the best!
This is a WONDERFUL list! Thank you, Emma! I haven´t watched any film of this list, but I love your suggestions, so...Binge watching on the way! Also, I have a couple of suggestions of disturbing dramas, more than thrillers: 1994 Oleanna by David Mamet (based on a play written by himself) left me speechless and 1997 Bent, starring Clive Owen are both quite intense and interesting a nobody talks about them!
Very happy to have just discovered your channel. I only live for psychological, horror, thriller and disturbing movies. ❤️
Soft And Quiet broke me. I felt like I needed therapy the next day and broke down weeping telling my daughter about it, because I HAD TO tell someone about it. It's an emotional throat punch and easily the most difficult movie to finish that I've ever seen.
Damn. I'm too scared to watch this now! I can't make out what happens from the reviews or anything, I have no idea what could make it so bad!
@@melissarose2311 it's more disturbing than scary, but it stays with you. It took me a little under two months to get completely over it.
@@pkourakos damn. I’m so tempted but also do not 🤣
@@melissarose2311 the way its shot is brilliant. Because it's real time, the suspense is terrible.
I'm so glad to hear your take on soft and quiet I saw it last month and needed several days to get through it because it was just to much to take in
Yeah I took breaks too!
Thank you for yet another amazing list full of films I never knew about. I love you as you are my source to so many quality movie nights! Thank you and keep up the amazing job. Also a small favor, can you do another list for Asian horror movies, it's been awhile so I bet you can help us with your great suggestions.
I’ll have a think 🤔. Thanks for the support!!!
Yesss. I love videos like this. The more disturbing the better!!
Will you be doing a video on Skinamarink? Very interested to hear your thoughts!
Yes!!! So I’ve been in touch with the director, basically people have been pirating the film from a leaked source so I wanted to makes sure to do right by the filmmaker since it’s an indie film, and they haven’t had a chance to release it properly. I’ve got a screener! And I’ll do a review around the actual release in January .
@@spookyastronauts Awesome. I haven't seen it yet, because it wasn't released yet. Like you said. So I'm glad to hear you will do a review when the time is right. I'm excited to hear your thoughts!!
How can I not have seen any of these????? Immediately added all to my list.
And thank you, Emma, for being size inclusive on your merch. Now us big girls can show our appreciation for Justin Long too💜
Thanks for the support! And of course! I stock whatever size the brand currently goes up to! Very important to me
Yessss. Soft and Quiet needs to be talked more, most underrated horror/thriller of the year
Thanks for the list, Emma. When it comes to films that are dark and disturbing, I just can't compete with you. 😉 That being said, I will admit that I have seen "Soft & Quiet", but that is the only one from your list that I have seen. I am curious about 2LDK, since it is a Japanese thriller, and we know how insanely different they can be. Here are a couple of titles I came up with that are plenty disturbing (at least to me):
ALL EYES (2022) - Low budget thriller, but it delivers on its twisted monster premise.
A RECORD OF SWEET MURDERER (2014) - South Korean found footage thriller that gets really twisted.
THE INFERNAL MACHINE (2022) - Guy Pearce stars in this disturbing thriller of an author hiding from an obsessive fan.
Nice!! Keep the suggestions coming! Love hear about new ones!
Us sickos need to stick together. Hope you are healing up nicely, Emma.
When Emma says I bet you missed this I'm like ..... try me.
Only saw 2 of them hahaha can't wait to watch Soft and Quiet and 2LDK.
Love your hidden gem vids. Thanks as always Emma ❤
Thank you!!!!
I haven't seen a single one of these movies, thank you for the watch list Emma!
My job here is done!
Thanks again for another awesome list! Soft and Quiet hit me like a hammer!
Soft and Quiet was easily the most uncomfortable I have felt in quite a while, perhaps only matched by Speak No Evil but for different reasons. Possibly this film is more upsetting but I won't say why for fear of spoiling. Powerful and confrontational cinema, amazing performances, brilliantly shot and edited. Not for everyone and not one I want to watch again, but very well done. Saw it two weeks ago and its still with me. I did however want to take a long hot shower afterwards.
Speak No Evil was a rough watch but man has it stuck with me ever since seeing it over a month ago. The last 20 minutes are incredibly disturbing.
Why was it so disturbing? The lead characters were pretty much like your typical Trump supporter. They just felt safe expressing their views with likeminded people. I thought the acting was so terrible.
@@shelwhitfield1905 i wouldn't say disturbing,more like uncomfortable and anxious
I agree…it was more frightening than Barbarian..it was so uncomfortable…and disturbing..
Just finished it now and good lord that was disturbing, it had my blood boiling and my heart pounding.
Love when you do these . You gave me many to watch. Watched soft and quiet last week thanks to you !
Amazing
What did you think??
Thanks for putting those Lists together, I had a blast over the last days picking the most interesting and not yet seen ones ! 🥳
This round it’s gonna be Hippopotamus, quiet thrilled by the way you described it 😂
Best to both, Gromit and you ✌️
Downloading Nancy was dark and kind of heartbreaking. The performances in it are killer and it has a really memorable and evocative soundtrack for some reason. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was, even if it did kind of ruin my day. Good recommendation.
Just finished Soft and Quiet, on your recommendation. I could not have seen that coming. Just, wow!! what a ride, thanks for letting me know about this one.
I know right!!!
Haven't seen any of these. Time to update my watchlist! Thanks for the list, Emma :)
Love way you say "certified sickos". Yes we are!
Haven't seen any of these! Excited to watch. Thank you 💕💕💕 and YES I need that Justin Long shirt ASAP
Oooooo! I haven't seen any of these movies but I'll try to find as many as I can to watch. Love these lists and can't wait for more!
A film that I would recommend that is mentally draining like Compliance and equally uncomfortable to watch is "Custody" (2017).
Great job on this video! I've seen Hippopotamus and Profile. Hippopotamus is a really cool concept and kind of similar to Black Phone but better IMHO. Profile was really thrilling and the 1h45m flew by! Disturbing but such a good time.
Thanks!! I’ll look into that
Sick, twisted, upsetting; and thank you. You also have really good commenters. Do you ever just sip a glass of wine and read the comments? Really fun!
Soft and Quiet was so hard to watch but wow! Amazing!
Thanks, Emma! I like disturbing flicks. Not straight exploitation but I find the truly uncomfortable movies usually have a deeper meaning or message.
Edit: For those who have seen "You want me 2 kill him?" Without spoiling too much, is there a safe with a biometric lock involved? A private chat room? I think I know the original story and would love to see it played out on screen!
I just watched the documentary Emma mentioned about this one, and they did say something about a safe and chat rooms were very much involved. I think the story you are thinking is exactly the one played out in U Want 2 Kill Me. 😉👍
@@KrystleLovesHorror Aces! That's a messed up, and ultimately really sad, story. Thanks for the confirmation! 😁
@@EpsilonXero it really is! 😳 You are very welcome!! 😁👍
Saw most of them. And I totally agree on Soft and Quiet. The first 'small reveal' had me laughing a bit uneasy. I wasn't sure what to expect from the movie since I went in completely blind but boy...that was one uneasy watch which got darker and more disturbing with every few minutes. Maybe not for everyone, but certainly one that perfectly fits the title blurb.
that justin long merch that he knows about is too cute!
I'd only seen Hippocampus b4, so exitedly queued up the rest in this list. After watching Soft & Quiet though, I'm in less of a hurry to work my way through the others. Damn, what a punch in the gut that film was! Great roundup - thanks, I think ☺️
Just finished Profile and wow 😮 I was glued to my screen from beginning to end! Great recommendation!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I wrote out the movies you had for the last list and it was quite a trip. Time to write more down.
Soft and Quiet blew me away and crippled my soul. Beth de Araújo is a genius.
Profile was great! I was just thinking about it yesterday
Profile was so good and ends up feeling real by the end
The only film I've seen on this list was hippopotamus and I found it to be absolutely haunting - I still think about it to this day (and I saw it a year+ ago)!
Ooooh what a good list, I’ve not seen any of these! Will be searching for them this weekend. Thanks emma 😊
i loooove these lists so much! thanks so much Emma i appreciate you ❤
Thanks for the support!!
Wow! Disturbing is my fav genre and I've seen none of these! Thanks Em!
Thank you. This will help my holiday weekend go by better.
Love 2LDK!! So happy you mentioned that one! I’m gonna have to check out the rest on here.
I'm surprised I'd only seen 2 of these! Haven't even heard of the others. Your research is top notch 😄
I watched Soft & Quiet because of your recommendation and went in blind...holy cow! So incredibly upsetting on many different levelts!
1987 movie Anguish, the way it was filmed made me literally nauseous when I was younger, but not from gore.
Everything you said about Soft and Quiet....yes.
I had no idea about any of these, this is why I subbed to this channel.
😇😇😇
New subscriber here. I just watched Profile and WOW that was so intense!!! Emma thanks so much for that recommendation. About to watch Speak No Evil now, wish me luck!
Omg Downloading Nancy!!! One of my all time favorites. Haven’t heard anyone talk about it before. :) Added a few new movies to my list. Thank you!!
Thanks for watching!!!
I loved Profile! Fantastic film.
Thank you for the great content as always, Emma! I love your channel and the genuine passion you have for all things spooky :)
Hello Emma, I haven’t seen any of these and I’m looking forward to seeing them all. Possibly even sine Justin Long merch! 😁👏
Not sure how well they'd fit in this list, but the trilogy " pusher" is really cool. Dark, pretty violent if I remember correctly and suspenseful. I think you might like them, if you haven't watched them already :)
Thank you for your recommendations as always!
So many comments of people discovering new films to check out. Well done Emma!
Yes! Profile! It made me top 10 list for that year. It’s rare something I watch actually frightens me, it that ‘video’ that’s put out near the end of the film 😮😮😮
I saw "'Soft and Quiet"", I won't forget it, it's like getting a home made pie thrown in your face! Saw Profile and Hippopotamus and you're right, they play better on your laptop. All three are sparse and simple but so tense and effective. If these don't get your heart racing, check your pulse! Can't wait to see the others on this list!
Emma, I just got through watching "Fresh". It was so good! It's been a while since I yelled at the TV screen like that. Thanks for the thrills! 😂
Thanks for the recommendations, Emma! I'm most excited to check out Downloading Nancy since I loved Rufus Sewell in Dark City ♥️
Enjoy’
I am so excited to see most of these movies that I haven’t even heard of! Thank you!
I went into Soft and Quiet blind except for this video and I've never felt so sick and uncomfortable watching a film. Not only in the content but the way it was shot really makes it feel like you're with them and have no choice but to stay. Profile was disturbing in a different way in how it made you feel about the characters, I think that's why I love disturbing films for the emotions it brings up.
My watchlist can't keep up 🥵 Such a solid list, Emma!!
Haha thanks Mary! Warning these ones are rough!!!
Hey, thanks for the recommendations. Have not heard of many of these. These are the kinds of movies I really, really have to steel myself mentally for though, so don't know how quickly I'll jump on them. I really do want to see Soft and Quiet though.
My recommendation for this kind of movie would be a 2018 indie film called The Swerve. This is the kind of film that kind of hurts your feelings, in that you get caught up in one person's slow descent into madness and despair. It feels subjective and kind of devastating. Not for those who are already having a bad day. Strong elements of psychological horror. It's available for free on many platforms, including Tubi and Amazon Prime.
Aw damn. I just went to your letterboxd and I guess you've already seen it. 2 1/2 stars. 😕
Profile is one of my favorite films, I've never been so tense in my whole life!
I love your recommendations so much! Just rented Soft & Quiet - can’t wait!
I've only seen Profile out of these! Can't wait to watch the rest. 😍 Thanks for all the recommendations again!
Thanks for the list definitely want to check some of these out love some disturbing movies!😊 can’t wait for you to have your own merch hopefully you can find a new company to work with soon!
Hello Emma! I really appreciate your recommendations. I am always searching for "good" horror movies here and there but to no...avail. I found your channel and must admit that your content is diverse and on point.
Since we are talking about unsettling thrillers, I recently watched The House that Jack Built and The Golden Glove. What do you think about these two movies?
Can’t believe I haven’t seen any of these 😞😞😞😞 thanks as always for the great recommendations!!!🤘🤘
I searched high and low!!!😇
Eek! I am both excited and disturbed to check out this list. Have you covered “Skinamarink”?
I just got the screener! I wanted to make sure to do things right with this one since a lot of people are pirating it and it’s an indie filmmaker! Will cover it in a couple of weeks
@@spookyastronauts Yaaaaaaaaay!
Great list. I've got to see Soft and Quiet
Here are a few other suggestions.
Speak no Evil
Red White Blue + The living and the Dead by Simon Rumley
Profile could be a seriously beneficial watch for those who trust too easily. I haven’t seen the others, but they are now added to my list. Thanks! Also I feel like The Dirties is underrated, but it doesn’t really get “disturbing” until the very end- also not really a thriller lol.
Thank you Emma !! Wow what a great list !! I have only seen Profile.
I was surprised to see 2LDK on someone's list. I actually bought it on DVD when it was released. It's in storage now so I don't have access to right now. Thanks for the list. I have a few to check out.
Thank you so much for this amazing list! I hadn’t seen any of them but I immediately watched Profile. It did not disappoint!!
Very interesting Top 10, the only one I've seen Is Soft And Quiet, gonna have to do some serious digging for the rest!
thanks to emma i now have so many new disturbing movies in my watchlist! yay!
2LDK is a good one; it also has a very interesting production history. In terms of availability, it just got a Blu Ray release within the last year.
So many new ones to check out! Thanks Emma! 😃❤️
2ldk is free to watch on UA-cam if anyone is having trouble finding it on your streaming platform!
What you mention about U Want Me to Kill Him? (haven't seen yet) seeming like an after school special or lifetime movie, I definitely felt that seemingly wholesome & on the nose delivery with the movie Found, which I discovered from you actually and I know is a favorite of yours. With the first act or so I was almost wondering if I had played the wrong movie or misunderstood the recommendation. Then by the climax & final shot, lol, it definitely gains its place on these lists.
* The final shot of Soft & Quiet is really interesting also, I suppose the last few frames of the continuous shot/movie. Survival! Resilience!
Hippopotamus is one of my favourites-surprisingly so! Highly recommend!
2LDK was part of The Duel Project a challenge to directors Yukihiko Tsutsumi and Ryûhei Kitamura (of Versus and Midnight Meat Train fame) to make a film staring only 2 Actors battling, 1 Location and completed in 1 week. The 2 movies were very different. I saw them years back on DVD which in the UK was released on Artificial Eye I believe, which is now Curzon. I love these lists.
Thanks for the recommendations! I'll check out the ones that are available where I live.
Thanks Emma I honestly thought it would be a few films I’ve already seen since I like this sun genre but all new films added to my never ending watchlist lol
Definitely gonna stream Soft and Quiet....sounds awesome!!
Added a couple to my watchlist. Thanks Emma!
You sicko!!!
Yay more movies to watch during my Christmas break! thanks Emma ♥
No kidding, eh? Hope I can make the time to catch a few of them.
I just watched Howard’s Mill yesterday. Has anyone seen this movie? It’s AMAZING. I can’t stop thinking about it. Couldn’t find anyone talking about it on UA-cam.
Thanks. Watched and enjoyed em all
Especially soft and wie was a treat!!!
Cold Fish is a very disturbing thriller that many people haven’t mentioned.
I just went away and watched Profile. So disturbing. She's not kidding. Thanks, Emma!!!!
Thanks Emma. I actually have not watched most of rhese yet, though a few were on my list. I actually may see Soft and Quiet tonight, as I always love an unpredictable narrative and the best kind of recommendation is when someone says absolutely nothing but "go in as blind as possible"
Hippopotamus sounds intriguing because it reminded me of The Collector (1965).
Cool! I was just wondering what I should watch in order to keep procrastinating and avoiding my teacher duties, cheers Emma 😂😂
Hahaha no! Enjoy!
Last night I watched an Australian movie called "Killing Ground." Definitely a disturbing (and suspenseful) film. I've also seen "Profile" and enjoyed it very much. Thanks, Emma, for all the other recommendations!
