I’m guessing this is what my ‘55 looked like 30+ years ago when it got torn apart for floor/rocker/tailpan work. Car got torn apart then and passed through 3 owners before the pile landed on my lap. Good luck on the project!
Great first video. I appreciate you mentioning us. Looks like a great starting point. You got the spears and trim and that is huge. Thats pricey stuff. Happy for you Randy. ✌️
Cool to see a video from Randy! That's a really good nomad to start with. It kinda looked like one of the door garnish mouldings was in the back cargo area. You did real good on your first video. Talk to you later Buddy 👍
Kool find. I'm partial to a 56 Nomad. I grew up with a 56 Nomad (My moms) and 55 Nomad (my dads) in the family. I have the 56 now and my brother has the 55. My dad collected a lot of 55-57 parts over the years. I'll be watchin. If u need something give a shout out and I'll see what he's got left of the collection. We've been selling bit's and pieces at small local swap meet over the years. I know he still has stuff left. Good luck on the channel and the new project. I got some vids on my channel of both Nomads and some budget upgrades if you're looking to do some better brakes and steering.
I’ll check out your channel. Any hep or parts you may have to help out let me know. I’m still in the discovery phase but not really thinking I’ll find much more.
Great first video Randy! I saw the other three and it looked like you figured out a bunch when you were able to put them together to make this full video! I wished my first one had looked this good! The car looks great too! Just like Don says, get one with a good solid roof and one that has all the parts just like you did. The interior and exterior nomad only trim is the expensive stuff! On these purchases, I take all the loose car parts and seats out, give it a good vacuum and hot pressure wash the entire car inside and out! It will allow you to inventory parts to see what's missing, look at metalwork needed and make it look better! Make a list of missing stuff and see about going back to Dave's to locate all the missing parts. I think you'll have much better luck finding the parts there now that you know what you're looking for instead of paying the high costs of replacements or the frustration in locating them. That 2 post lift will also be huge in separating the body from the frame when you restore the chassis and put the new floor in. That frame looks like it might be a seamless or 1 piece frame. Some people mistakenly call them California frames but, that's a myth. Find a place where you can will-call any new oversized parts and avoid shipping costs. A great next video would be to de-code the cowl tag, which will give you some history of the car. The cowl tag decoder from Classic Industries is an awesome tool and will allow you to do a cowl tag decoder episode for your next video. Also, surprisingly, "first wash in XX years" videos get crazy amounts of views, especially if you have a pressure washer and it cleans up real well. Great name for the channel too, now you need a good emblem for your sticker and your channel icon. You're off to a great start Randy! Best wishes!
Thanks @hubiesgarage ! I should have mentioned you also, you have been very supportive in this endeavor and I appreciate it. Thanks for all the advice and ideas for future videos. Thanks again and I truly appreciate your input!
Welcome to UA-cam Randy, you did a great job and picked a great car to start your channel with. I will be watching you to see all the fun you will be having with the Nomad. :o)
I had my ramp but since the wheels don’t not turn the Ramos were useless. When I have tried this in the past the winch would stop or the wheels would unlatch the ramps and cause a mess. That is for watching!
Thanks Randy, if you need suggestions for the next video I would love to see you clean out the car and inventory the parts and chrome you find and need.
Hi, Randy. My name is Cookie and I am Stano’s (giveblood8467) wife. Stan and I have a You Tube channel called LOWBUCK WRENCHERS. Congratulations on the Nomad. They are such a fun and great car. I can relate to your wife wanting to take ownership of it. That may have happened in our family too. According to Stan it has already happened and says he likes it. Stano said when he first saw your car he thought the two tone green colors were reversed. He thought the dark green should have been where the like green is and vice versa. He was curious if Chevrolet actually did that because your car looks to be original. Hot rodders reverse colors all the time on tri-fives. He then went to the books to see what information he could find and to find out if Chevrolet actually did that. He has always assumed base colors were dark usually being the front end and lower sides and accent colors were usually light being the top and tail on the Bel Air. From your cowl tag, the number 702 means two tone with the base color being the light color, Pinecrest Green (front and lower sides) and the accent color being the dark color, Sherwood Green (tail). Then the top on a Nomad is painted the base color which in your case is the Pinecrest Green. He has always assumed that the base color was always the front and lower sides on the Bel Air and on the Nomad it is the front and lower sides and top. The accent color was on the top and tail on Bel Air and on the tail only on Nomad. He has always assumed that the dark color was the base color and the accent color was the light color. Seeing your car helped him learn something new today. As a matter of fact, your two tone Bel Air Nomad with the paint code of 702 is the ONLY color combination that was available with the base color being light and the accent color being dark. All other combinations available were base color being the dark color and the accent color being the light color for 1956. 1955, 1956, & 1957 Chevy Colors and Paint Codes - Solid Colors & Two-Tones If this all sounds confusing and raises any questions, feel free to ask. He loves talking cars! There are some videos of our 1956 Nomad on our LOWBUCK WRENCHERS channel. There is also a Corvette video that has a picture of the 1956 Bel Air and 1956 Nomad at the end. The 1956 Bel Air is supposed to be Harbor Blue base being the dark color and the accent is supposed to be Nassau Blue being the light color. But the picture is as we bought it with the Harbor Blue base and White accent. We have both subscribed to your channel and are looking forward to following your journey with the Nomad. We hope it will give you and your wife as much fun as our Nomad has for us. Don’s Hot Rod Garage was a big inspiration to us as you have probably already discovered. We will be watching! Thanks, Stano & Cookie
@@lowbuckwrenchers8785 I thought the same with the two tone. When I looked at Classic Industries I seen where the only two tone where the base is lighter than the accent is the car I have. I first thought I might change the accent color to white or ivory but changed my mind after learning it was the only one like it. Now it’s growing on me. Thanks for your message. I am going to look up your channel. Also thanks for the support. I plan to share videos on Sundays!
same thing happened to us. our 56 belair is blue and white top and tail. then we found out the car is supose to be blue with light blue top and tail. and if we repaint it some day we would make the top and tail light blue. your Nomad looks really good car to redo. we will watch and see how it goes. thank you@@RhinosRestomods
i saw your vidio of the Nomad. my opinion on Nomads. even if the car is bent in half it is coming home. in watching and seeing your car i noticed for the first time about you two tone paint. i thought the colors was reversed, did chevrolet do that, so i thought, so i looked it up. now i cant type that much so i am going to have my wife type what we found out. it will be coming from LOWBUCK WRENCHERS thank you
