you don't just listen to nine inch nails, you experience nine inch nails
it's no accident that he's one of the handful of singer-songwriters who was able to sucessfully transition to film composer (danny elfman is another one)
That is So TRUE
Unfortunately many of us that relate to much of the earlier work.. Or found the work great. Have had substance issues of our own..
Thats so deep bro
Best concert I ever saw of them, which is many! I'm an older fan (57) and started following him in '92 when I was 27. He is my age actually. He's three months younger than I. I give him kudos for kicking heroin, which killed my 20 yr old daughter in 2011. He kicked it and came back strong. He really is a genius. Love always!♥️
So sorry for your loss, sending my love from Spain.
I’m much younger than you and i’m blessed that i kicked my Heroin addiction, may your daughter rest in peace.
He never did heroin he only accidentally overdosed on it once when he thought it was cocaine
I agree with you that this was the best NIN tour.
Sorry

Happy 25 years of the greatest album known to man.
The night that NIN played "The Fragile" at the MTV VMAs was a canon event for me.
When The Fragile first came out, I didn't initially care for it much. I was an angry teenager and I had been hoping for an album as hard and angry as The downward Spiral I remember watching the MTV awards played at the beginning of this, live on TV, and being pretty underwhelmed. I bought the CDs - as one did in those days - and they got the occasional listen.
Then one day in September 2000, I was on a ferry, headed home after a 3 day party. I was just starting to come down from an acid trip; I decided to pop the left CD into my trusty Discman for the ride. I was sitting on the ship's upper deck, the sun was setting, several seagulls were flying alongside the boat, and all I could smell was the sea, and I was like "holy shit. HOLY SHIT! This is really good, I get it now."
The Fragile is a mood.
It took me at least a year too. My roommate and band mate kept listening to it like in the car or whatever and I kinda dismissed it (I'm the one that got him into nails fwiw). Then one day I was ready to consume a new concert video that I hadn't watched a thousand times before and it kinda got me right at la mer. After that, I was ready to give it a deeper dive, and suddenly everything he'd done before the fragile felt, juvenile. I couldn't wait to get more of new Trent, the guy who was going to dig deeper for all of us.
I loved the Fragility tour. Who could’ve believed that he’d make peace, have 5 kids with his wife, and win an Oscar for scoring a Disney film!
He chose light after walking through the darkness.
And he’s still going
He just needs an Emmy and a Tony and he’s collected them all
@@Mrshickadance99 I think he has an Emmy for Watchmen series, so it might be time for him to write for Broadway :)
@@The0ne7777 LeTrent Broadway is an excellent Suggestion and I’m confident if he decided to do Broadway , I am paradigmatically positive he’d write ‘his own)
it would be an original script/“scratch” start to bottom : concept development , undoubtedly would be OK contender for some serious award
Best concert I ever saw. A Perfect Circle opened. Doesn't get any better than that. NIN and A Perfect Circle
How long ago was this concert?
@@chazwickjeffriesvonbronswi9922 April 12 2000 in Cleveland. Fragility V 2.0 Tour. Best show I have ever been too and I have been to alot of shows.
Indeed. Unforgettable tour. My friends and I still talk about it. Awesome 🔥🔥🔥
Same, saw this at the Gorge. A young man with a head full of acid. everytime i play this album its like a therapy session.
Missed out on that concert when they came to NJ that year. I was broke back then 😢
NIN, unlike any other band I love, invokes some of my fondest and darkest memories simultaneously. I don't even think I was sophisticated enough to properly appreciate it when it came to me. Now that this music has been with me for three decades, and after becoming a musician; I've really grown to appreciate both the subtle intricacies, and sheer bombast that make this one of history's best musical discographies. Fan since 1990, 41 years old, still return to it over and over. Sometimes it lies dormant for years, but it always returns. Couldn't be more grateful.
Hey I'm also 41 and I could pretty much type the same about my time from 1990 till now regarding NIN...
You said that nicely. I agree and relate. Fan since the mid 90’s I’m 37 now. I still listen to them non stop.
Agreed. Every few years something will inspire me to jam The Fragile, or Tool's Aenema or Lateralus, or Radiohead's Kid A, or Manson's Mechanical Animals, and it triggers something powerful and beautiful and exciting in my brain. Brings a tear to my eye and fills me with a feeling that I desperately want to share with others. But usually no one else cares. They don't get it. I don't begrudge them, of course. But I pity them a little. 🙃
@@rdean150 every few years??? I kinda feel bad you don’t indulge more often……. I listen to Aenima Undertow and Lateralus almost every day!!! 🤘🤘 I also love Radiohead too. My bands are always in rotation. That never ended.
I absolutely agree.
The Fragile is easily the most well produced album i have ever listened to, even with the production exception, its extremely well written and it builds up perfectly, Surely one of the best albums of the 90s
To me, "The Great Below" is the greatest song of the album.
There are so many of my memories associated with this one.
Agreed. So so good.
...and he ends the show with 'The great below'...goddamn!!! The dark and haunting mood this song have, just fits perfectly to end the first half of the record, and it fits perfecyt to end a mindblowing live gig! Trent really is like some kind of wizards when it comes to placements of sound and deeper understanding of how music effeckts the human mind !The Fragile NEVER gets old, doesen't matter how often you hear it! And because of THAT,I say he is the greatest living artist our time!!!
The craziest thing is perfect drug is so damn good. I’m glad they started playing it. It’s so good.
The best NIN record hands down. 'We're in this together' was the first song I ever listened back in 99, I was 15 and got totally hooked at first listen. Been a fan since and Trent is one of the greatest musicians to ever walk this Earth, prove me wrong.
We're in this together was released in 1999. 😉
@@serroche I hear ya. I fell in love with that album that year too.
Check out the band Diary of Dreams , if you are not already familiar with them..absolutely amazing band

My x bought it me on vinyl.
The FRAGILE IS one of the BEST ALBUMS EVER PRODUCED!!! PERIOD!
My favorite NIN album for sure and my second favorite album of all time in general

I read recently somewhere it's an album that Reznor regrets recording. I can't disagree more, I'm glad they did release it because it's one of my favourites ❤
This guy is a true artist.
I was born in 1981 so I grew up to this and lived as man to this. All the great albums. I feel sorry for people that don’t enjoy NIN.
1981 here too!
1981 here, still have most of the albums.
1981 here too, fuck yeah dude!
1979 Grew up on NIN too.
same, the 90s really had a good exposure for NIN and music similar, its not like how it use to be.
Nin has always put a soundtrack to my darker thoughts. As a teenager the rage in those first tracks on PHM was like a conductor, grounding out my own fury with the way this world works. I owe a lot to this music, because there’s no telling where that energy would have gone otherwise. I have always made my own music, but to say it hasn’t been shaped by this work would be disingenuous.
Music has always been an outlet for my darker moods, almost as if the music's darkness dilutes my own. All of NIN rides a fine line of that, some songs working to dilute and others just amplifying my emotion. Some PHM songs in particular are very similar to each other but have opposite effects - and the more I learn about music the more fascinated I get. The subtleties are amazing
I guess I'm just glad someone else has voiced that emotion channeling/diluting feeling. It's a hard feeling to describe to someone who hasn't felt it. Good luck with your life, and may music continue to provide outlet
Thank you so much for this. The Fragile is an absolute masterpiece; it has a very special place in my heart.
Autumn of 1999 was a very dark time for me. At only 15 I lost the boy I loved. His death, the gut-wrenching despair…this album helped me get through it. The visceral pain in Trent’s voice and his music comforted me…almost like it was written just for me. I was the frail, so very fragile. It brought some joy in a completely bleak life and stopped me from ending it.
I wish I was able to see NIN in concert live, but I couldn’t even leave my bed to go to school. Even my friends abandoned me but it wasn’t their fault; nobody could help me. Only the music helped.
I’m forever grateful to Mr. Reznor, thank you for NIN, thank you for sharing your pain and opening your heart to heal others. The way out (of the great below) is through. NIN helped me get through.💔🖤❤️🩹❤
That opening performance had me completely memorized and single handedly knocked me out of a dark depression I was in. I lost all concern for it and am glued to this entire video now. NIN is fucking amazing.
Staring at the sea
Will she come?
Is there hope for me
After all is said and done
Anything at any price
All of this for you
All the spoils of a wasted life
All of this for you
All the world has closed her eyes
Tired faith all worn and thin
For all we could have done
And all that could have been
Ocean pulls me close
And whispers in my ear
The destiny I've chose
All becoming clear
The currents have their say
The time is drawing near
Washes me away
Makes me disappear
And I descend from grace
In arms of undertow
I will take my place
In the great below
I can still feel you
Even so far away
25 years ago that double CD album really changed my life and gave me hope for my life. It was a sharing moment for me that Im not alone. Trent Reznor is really modern times Bach or Mozart.
17:40 a HUGE understatement.
Listening to the album with your eyes closed is like watching a movie!
My favorite album and the best concert I've ever been to. Saw them in New Orleans with A Perfect Circle. The place was packed and the crowd went nuts. Incredible memories. This is some great footage.
I was at that tour. In Dayton or Columbus. Can't remember which. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
Saw that tour in New Hampshire. What a show!
I was there too. Great show, but one memorable moment was there were people in Tool shirts booing APC.
I was at that show as well. Met Maynard, Paz, and Danny Lohner after the show out back by the buses.
That sounds like a dream. I love both bands and Nola. I saw em with janes addiction and a few other times.
Saw them for the first time a couple weeks ago for two nights. Absolutely amazing. Honestly the best shows we’ve ever been. I appreciate his work so much.
The Fragile is my favorite Nine Inch Nails album so this documentary is a dream come true. Thank you so much for all of your hard work compiling this material.
This a treasure. Thank you. This speaks directly to my love for Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails. I am now - 47 years old and still appreciate their work.
Hearing this man talk about how he makes music and his thoughts around the entire process is just mind blowing. Was mind blowing to me as a 5 year old listening to pretty hate machine and it’s mind blowing to me now watching this video at 38.
My favorite album! Still remember the feelings I had when I was listening it for the first time! Love NIN and Trent is just gorgeous!!
One of my favorite albums ever. The Cure and NIN is the only other band/artist who's entire catalogue that speaks to me on the deepest possible level - emotionally and psychologically. I was so happy to see and hear Trent Reznor speak so eloquently and personally about The Cure at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. He said of the Cure's music (paraphrasing) "it sounded like music written for me and about me". Trent's music feels like it was written for me and about me. He really is one of the musical geniuses of his generation. Every live performance is an emotional and energetic expression and experience. Every song and album is a delicate artwork.
Great doc, the Fragile is Reznor’s masterpiece. Worth the 5 year wait!!! Bought the album at midnight at a record store on my college campus. Caught 2 shows on the Fragility tour Houston and Dallas on back to back nights. Got a broken key from a key board Trent had smashed on stage!!!
The quality jump when you switched to the 'and all that could have been' footage was staggering. One of the best straight up concert films IMO. Has many of the definitive versions of NIN songs from this era and before.
The Fragile is the best album from a man who has made a sh*tlode of amazing, cutting edge, surreal and masterfully produced albums.
The recordings from the board in the live segments are pristine.
Nine inch nails and particularly this album at the point where my life was at the time I escaped inside of myself and almost never came out and almost never came out. So many times I was close to destroying myself. This band and it's music opened my eyes to how the world really is, I used this music to fuel all my addictions but then as I pulled myself out of the spiral let's say no pun intended, I was able to take control of the demons and clean up myself and become a stronger person. They were a big influence to say the least.
I was 19 when this album came out, I met him at the Metropolitan hotel after the Brixton Academy and he was interested in my then band ( I handed him a cassette) and we spoke for an hour . Atari teenage riot were there too .
To think we almost lost Trent to a heroin overdose in 2000 and he is where he is today is a mindfuck. Odds aren't in the addicts favor when it comes to getting clean and staying clean. Happy that he is still here.
its funny his comment about the perfect drug...I'm 13 in 1997...was struggling to find "my" music...one day watching MTV, that music video came on and i was floored. I just stopped in my tracks, i was in a trance while watching it. It changed me forever (musically). Its what got me into Nine Inch Nails...KMFDM...Razed In Black...Assemblage 23...VNV Nation...its kinda went in that progression
check out Godflesh, album Merciless, song flowers. No need to thank me but your welcome, enjoy.
Kmfdm- Drug against war!
Trent Reznor. A consummate artist, musician and performer in every sense of the word.
Wonderful documentary 👏
Beautifully put together piece of work.
NIN, has always been one of my favorite musical project. Sometimes it hard for me to listen to emotionally, but I always come back to it. Musically it has been a huge influence.
Caught their tour with soundgarden a few years back, one of the best live shows I've ever seen. Up there with seeing Gwar, primus, or any band of great musicians who also take a theatrical approach to their gigs
I was 18 when this album came out. (Born 1981)
Got into NIN around 96. Their music didn't click for me right away. I didn't hate it, but I was more confused by it. My friend lent me his copy of Downward Spiral around '96 and I kept trying but it just wouldn't click.
What I remember most was thinking (at the time) that the song structures weren't right.
Long story short, one day I put on the Downward Spiral again. When it got to "Reptile" the music FINALLY clicked for me.
When The Fragile came out, I was the only one out of the couple friends I had, that not only liked, but LOVED the album.
I'm torn on which album I like more. The Downward Spiral or The Fragile. The truth is I love both equally but for different reasons.
Lately been revisiting my high-school era bands I used to love. NIN, Manson, KMFDM, Theatre of Tragedy etc. Can't get back into Rammstein.
Thankfully, I still have most of the cds I had when I was a teen in the mid/late 90s. (Class of 2000).
As a side note, and for what it's worth, 21st century KMFDM isn't that good. They have some good songs/albums here and there but their peak was definitely in the 90's. Their name doesn't carry the same weight as it once did. The new album is....disappointing.
greatest of all time
literally the most underrated drummer of all time
Which one? Several are featured in this.
We need a new The fragile. One of the most important albums ever created.
Downward Spiral for me
@@Megdracula Also a very good album indeed.
As a long time fan of Nine Inch Nails, I thoroughly enjoyed the editing and presentation of this documentary. Thank you for sharing.
this was such an amazing era. to hear what Trent was going through while he was making this album is refreshing, to say the least. i remember picking up this album on CD way back in 99, and it became the only 2 CDs i played on repeat for at least 3 whole weeks. even to this day more little details come out of this album whenever i give another listen.
Thanks for the nostalgia, a reminder of how much I loved the fragile. Time to dive back in re image. A masterpiece is a masterpiece and I feel it. Never seen live
It's wild how Trent hates on The Perfect Drug, when its easily one of his best songs imho.
I really think that the fans grow and mature and there is so much more depth and enjoyment I'm experiencing in the newer stuff. But as some have mentioned on this comment platform, getting older, you really do take in and appreciate the music on a different level. Going back to earlier NIN stuff, it feels different. I appreciate it more for that art it truly is.
Saw this tripping on acid in Dallas wit APC. Insane show I will never forget. Thank you Trent for some of the best times of my life. Love you man! Glad you're still with us.

One of the greatest tours known to man. APC opened and it was FN glorious. I’ll never, ever forget it 🤘🤘🤘
This is great! Behind the scenes NIN pre 9/11. My generation talks about the 1990s like my parents talk about the 1960s.
I say that all the time, but even my teenagers look back to the 90s and think it was the last great decade for music. I’ve done something right🤘
This was very well presented. Trent's been sober for well over 20yrs now, though, which is much longer than the previous era of NIN. His catalog since is nothing short of prolific, and better represents the full compass, to be fair.
That said, 'The Fragile' remains my personal favourite, so again - thanks. :)
Thanks very much for putting this together! Great job. 😊
Saw them in SD with APC opening. Best concert of my life hands down. Anyone else remember how epic those damned screens were when they finally came down!? And holy sh*t the bass on the Great below. You didn't hear it you felt it. No words can describe the awesomeness of that performance.
To date he is the most talented musician, songwriter, producer, after updating myself pretty damn good father as well!! Have seen NIN 5 times now and will continue every time I get the opportunity! Simply Amazing!
I saw Nine Inch Nails For the First Time at the age of 12 or 13 back in 94 or 95, having found my stepdads copies of pretty hate machine and broken. Of course I found the downward spiral amazing, and I think a lot of us fans figured we were going to lose Trent to heroin during that huge hiatus between touring for TDS and releasing the fragile, with that little ray of hope with the Lost Highway soundtrack somewhere in the middle. The popularity of TDS I think brought a lot of younger fans in and a lot of people in the fan base wanted the fragile to be TDS part 2. I was growing and maturing and my music tastes were less angst filled, I personally found the fragile to be the perfect album, for Trent, for the experience of seeing nin live and for where I was at the time, and it was a beautiful two packed discs of new music. This is a musical masterpiece of the highest order, with those perfect Trent Reznor signatures of chaotic dissonance melded with melodic perfection, and I love most all of his lyrics in a way but I believe this was his lyrical magnum opus
Still a huge fan and love everything he does, but I especially love the Fragile period. It was so creative, deep, musically rich and extraordinary. And one of the greatest follow-ups of an impossible to top-album in music history. He didn't even try, he just made something else.
I wish I could have been part of this tour! My first concert was With Teeth. I listen to his music and it never gets old! Artest come and go but I will never stop listening to Nine Inch Nails. This may sound crazy but at times I feel some comfort listening to them. I met Trent on the with Teeth tour three times. Always so kind and gracious. Thank you Trent for sharing your talent and giving us real music!
It;s interesting that he became so dismissive of The Perfect Drug, because that's long been my favourite NIN track. It just has SO MUCH energy, that drum solo is INSANE, and the ending is HAUNTING ...
I've been a fan of what this man has been thru and has got across thru his music. There aren't many bands that can not only stand the tests of time but progress in a way that NIN have. Their music helped me grow as a man and individuall.
Similary Gahan DM and D Bowie
Love Depeche Mode
My absolute number one artist. I’ve followed them from the very beginning and seen them in concert many times. 2022 tour was amazing. Great footage.
I thought nothing could live up to The Downward Spiral at the time. First listen of The Fragile I was underwhelmed. But after listening to it more and more it slowly grew on me. 25 years later it is hands down one of my favorite albums of all time. Was fortunate to see four shows on the Fragility tour and it's an experience I'll never forget.
"I personally believe it's the best thing I've ever done" - Trent Reznor
I couldn't agree more!
Just saw them the 1st night at Red Rocks...So so good still. Maybe even better than ever! This is a great doc. Well made!
Fuck yeah!.. I was there as well, never thought I'd be happier than I actually was to spend 560.00$ on two tickets to any show let alone a redrocks show so it didn't bug me to bad . But then bought a third for my son, because well he ended up wanting to go and as him being a little well big white kid that thinks hes hood :/ , i couldnt had been more happy to spend another 250.00 .. I've literally seen at the least 1000 shows in my day and those two nights were the greatest nights possibly of my life, thus far I think I could say yes. The second night could had been better but I started getting sick from coming off of Heroin..Was still great af tho.. wasnt to bad yet.. next morning blew ass.. Spent the first 4 or 5 days out there basically just halfway comatose... And my dumb ass does all 7 gz I brought with before. The second night.. Oh well won't make that mistake
again.. He better come do it again next year that'd be sick🤮🤢🤯...
Fra-gee-lay? That must be Italian!

Still waiting for a collabalbum with Trent and Joshua Homme. It can be done! Please guys! You have given us Mantra that was just a taste that turned into obsession with some of us fans.
Loved seeing the Closer footage, I wish Trent had been allowed to release it digitally. I still have the VHS cassettes in my basement. LOL
Amazing work. Really like how you have put this together.
Really love NIN and also other dark styles of music from acts like
Gary Numan, Chelsea Wolfe, Massive Attack, Portishead, Allflaws

This album was the one that changed me... after this I became a hopelessly devoted fan!! Trent Teznor is an absolute genius. Where would we be without his art?
I saw him on The Fragility tour back in the day and a few years back on the Cold, Black and Infinite tour.
To be honest, seeing him now is better than back then.
He was in bad shape for that tour... the excess and popularity was taking its toll.
Seeing him now is seeing a more fresh and clear minded talent.
This album changed my life.
Yes, mine too
I have to crank 'we're in this together' EVERY time it comes on. The 🥁 and the 🎤...
Same with 'the big come down' among others.
Damn that mtv performance was so dope. Love Robin and danny!
My favorite NIN album. He most definitely has left his musical mark. I have seen & enjoyed them many times.
Beyond killer CD of 1999 takes me back hand's down! So many memories 💯🎹🎹🎹🤘🤘🤘🤘 my ultimate favorite CD!! So glad I got to see This tour 🤘🤘🤘🎹🎹🎹🎹
I fellasleep to this albem for about 3 or 4 years strate in my 20s. So important to me. Nin music really saved me from the worst of myself. Will always be grateful.
Trent is the best musician ever to come out of my generation...his music has gotten me through some tough times in my life
Saw this tour in Vancouver, one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen and a perfect circle opened up for them 🤘🏻🖤🤘🏻
Great job on this. Loved hearing the interviews, hadn't heard all of these. Thanks!
Don't think I've seen just like you imagined live until now holy shit
Right? Wow. Amazing.
What an amazing documentary! Thank you so much for this.
I remember watching that MTV performance when it was aired. Never thought I would see it again really.
that performance changed me as a person.
La Mer into The Great Below into The Mark Has Been Made blew me away saw this tour twice and still haven't seen anything like that since
My favorite album ever. Unofficial as this may be, it was cut really well, and it was cool to get some of his perspective from that time woven with the live material.
Man, you did a great job on this! Thank you! So well done!!!
This was fucking GREAT! Really enjoyed the mashup style
Fantastic compilation
Also, awesome doc!! Excellent!♥️
I've been on a binge of trent & nin documentaries
this is very well made
Saw them 4 times Cleveland 94/95 all at different venues. Only missed one tour since. Even flew to Vegas to see the With Teeth Tour at the hard Rock.
Marilyn Manson and Prick opened one of those early shows. Feel so lucky to have been the right age at the right time.
Thank you for this, well done.
Bravo! That was fucking excellent. Thank you for putting in the work.
Probably my favorite record of all time.
NIИ always gives great live shows! ty.❤
Can't beat Just Like You Imagined. Best thing on the record by far.
Great doc!
Just so epic wish I could have been there at one of those concerts ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks we may not see an album like this again
