Yes, the innate human tendency towards error, disorder etc. aka sin and the resulting hell scape must be one of the most obvious doctrines in Christianity (origin sin & the resulting tendency to choose poorly). Just read history, or a newspaper or look at your family relationships. Brokenness everywhere.
AI is a fulcrum in the extreme & like hammers, guns and splitting the atom the destructive capacity is..... who can guess.

As a guy who worked in tech for the last 25 years, I can see the same things this Tom guy is saying. Things are getting ready to completely change, but we have no roadmap, no time table. There is no plan for helping workers displaced by AI. Media is already downsizing and using AI to replace writers and artists, so are video game studios. Everyone I know is either oblivious, or terrified.

The problem may not be as bad as it initially appears. With a declining population, AI can replace retiring workers rather than displacing active workers and yet help maintain a vibrant economy. Without a declining workforce the economy must shrink without the help of AI and automation.

How long before it is deemed that AI has a better disease identification success rate than human doctors? Do doctors go away? Artists are already vanishing in lieu of AI and I just read that Sports illustrated has been replacing writers with AI and none of their readers even knew it. We can read virtually any book online, so what will happen to publishers and book sellers? What happens when AI can make any celebrity or public APPEAR to be saying things they never said--and the fake is so good you can't tell? Right now people are using AI to call, say, parents of a kid on spring break. The AI mimics the kid's voice so perfectly that the parents send money to the address AI tells them--only that address is to a third party. These examples are child's play compared to what I see coming. We have no road plan for any of this

“12 hours research” and “deeply learning about a topic” don’t belong in the same sentence. 12 hours of research is barely scratching the surface of any complicated or complex (no, they’re not the same thing) topic. To really understand a topic you really have to understand the context not just the arguments. A classic example is one can list a bunch of facts supporting the banning of Dihydrogen Monoxide and another can list a bunch of facts on the benefits of Dihydrogen Monoxide but you’re not going to understand until you realize the context that Dihydrogen Monoxide is water. Ok, so that didn’t take 12 hours, but it’s really simple compared to most important and/or contentious topics like climate change, gun control, vaccines, and religion just to name a few.

    • @yesun3987

I agree w you about 12 hrs not being a lot of time to learn a topic, but if you watch Tom do an interview he is very knowledgeable and good at distilling complex ideas of his guests down for people watching to understand. But he also isn’t starting from a level 0. He has a huge amount of knowledge. For example, I recently watched him interview Jordan Peterson, and he Jordan he read all his books and always watches his content, so I think 12 hrs might be more of a starting point.

    • @zeroceiling
      @zeroceiling 4 місяці тому +3

It depends on what the topic is. If it’s Quantum Physics..you are right…if it’s pondering the different ways one can boil an egg…then 12 hours might be enough. In college terms…that’s 6 weeks of two one hour classes per week. For some areas of research…this may be just right.

Seriously, the idea that AI can somehow run science faster. Physics runs at the speed physics runs. ITER is a massive scientific experiment that take 10 years to build. Knowing how a protein is going to fold doesn't help you, we already know how to do that. If you knew exactly how the protein was going to behave then you wouldn't need to do the experiment, you would know how the body works perfectly so you could design a protein to do what you want.
I'm sure his take on AI in tech is pretty accurate. But I'm a physician, biology moves as fast as biology moves, chemical reactions take as long as they take and you have to do the test over and over to verify that result. That's what science is. Worshipping at the alter of intelligence is the same mistake people made before science was developed. There are things you cannot know without doing the test. You cannot logic your way to the ionization energy of a molecule, you just have to measure it. And that take time.

@@baustin11111 T. Henry Moray produced a decentralized energy and power capturing device circa the 1920s or 1930s. It consisted of a reception antenna, ground wire, and a conversion box full of components including a germanium dust filled conversion device. Germanium is a low forward voltage semiconductor (0.3 volts DC as opposed to silicon that is 0.65 to 0.7 volts DC). Incident electromagnetic radiation in the vicinity of the collection antenna was converted to moderately high voltage which could then be converted into lower voltage, higher current power.
Skeptics asked him to demonstrate the device in the middle of no where so that no hidden wires could be used to power the device. He complied, and still produced the 50 kilowatts into his array of incandescent 100 watt bulbs. Moray then was shot at with rifles. His remaining prototype was destroyed. His incompetent son never was able to grasp the concepts involved--maybe Henry should have found a significantly smarter wife with whom to have his offspring so that on average, the son would have been closer to genius level or more?
Please think counterfactually about many things.
For example, a centralized power generation system that is attached to a distribution grid that needs constant up-keep that is sensitive to EMP to shut it down indefinitely, and whose customers are charged inflationary amounts of cash for their energy that is also business taxed by indebted governments (who are actually private corporations) at a high rate also.
When you cannot pay the producer and distributor and tax man, will they let you have this all for free? I do not think so. Every customer is then trapped into paying whatever steep rates as they would have done by any other means of centralized, widely distributed energy source.
The way to do this correctly is to have each device power itself by its own safety tested way.
There would then be no idiots falsely claiming that you are destroying the planet by causing any kind of side effects as measured by corrupted government funded scientists who obviously know who is buttering their bread to support the spread of globalist socialism. AGW--ring any bells?

People get the wrong idea of religion. If the person is religious, they are restrained by most of their religion. Its what made the generation that waged WWII as capable as they were. In fact, one of the basic ten commandments is "Thou shalt not kill". But government didnt give those people a choice. They enacted the draft putting many in a situation of kill or die. But in peace times, people that take their religion seriously dont kill. It created the peace we all grew up in. As time has progressed, people have slowly become less religious. Understand that the more people that abandon religion, the less morals society has. And the less morals people have, the more likely they are to kill. Im 65 years old. In the 1970s, it was shocking to hear someone clear across the nation had been murdered. Now, just about every major city has multiple murders in a single day. If there is a rip between the two types of people you mentioned, it will be instigated by those without religion. Our nation was predominately Christian until the boomer generation. Then, somehow religion got pushed to the sideline. Now the boomer generation are returning to religion. They have proven to themselves that religion has its place in society and they are at the point in life that they are facing their own mortality. Uncertain about what to do about the problems they caused society, they have returned to what their parents taught them. I never really left my religious beliefs and it has not been an easy road, but roads worth going down are rarely easy anyway. One thing I can tell you about it. Failure is certain, but forgiveness is devine. Forgiveness is difficult within your own mind and yet it harbors the forgiveness for you when you fail. It can be as easy as saying "come on in" when you open a door for someone and they say excuse me and rush in. Or it can be as difficult as forgiving someone who murdered your child. And we all have different levels of capabilities for forgiveness. In fact, forgiveness is the key ingredient in a peaceful society. And you know that a society cant exist in perpetual anarchy. Anarchist are very rarely Christian, and if the are, its because that person is in a state of rebellion against his own teachings and will more than likely fail as an anachist. His concience will eat at him. It was a nice interview. Enjoyed it. I hope your optimism is correct about AI, but my common sence tells me that someone is going to misuse the technology and hurt or kill a lot of people. My opinion is that your a bit like the father of nuclear technology was. Too optimistic about how people will use the technology. With a lot of AI robots, a single bad guy can hurt so many people. That is a rational fear about AI. What happens when a billionaire who is sphocotic and he sends his robots to destroy the lower classes because he thinks they are useless? Its a legitamate concern.

Everyone watching this needs to consider the implications AI will have on jobs and our economy, very soon, and demand policymakers start acting! A majority of workers will be out competed by AI by 2030! We cannot stop it, nor do we want to, and we need to start preparing for what it means! AI will only keep advancing. Ignore the instinct to think it'll never do certain things, for I can assure you it will, and far sooner than you may expect. Don't believe those who say we don't need to prepare, as they're probably the ones who'll profit the most from the rest of us struggling. It's not going to create anywhere near enough "new jobs" quickly enough to reemploy all those it will displace! What new jobs could it create, that it couldn't also do itself? AI exists thanks to years of data and content, collected from all of us, that goes into training it to then out compete us. Demand your AI Dividend! Your piece of the benefits your data helped create. How else will we keep workers afloat while they figure out what to do next, how else can we protect the middle class from losing everything they've built? I've yet to hear a better answer, that doesn't just dismiss what's coming.

One on one interaction with older children and adults who talk with the child helps develop language. A daycare adult has little time for such interactions.

This 'mystical' abundant energy (a form of electromagnetic solar generated energy) is precisely what Nicholai Tesla recognized and was experimenting with when his life crashed down around him. Ad to that, the self-promoting and greedy business promoter Thomas Edison basically stole from Tesla, undermining Tesla's efforts and desire to provide an essentially free source of energy to everyone. Then after this successful campaign to destroy Tesla was accomplished, Edison shifted the research to create products that were marketable in order to funnel wealth (and of course fame) to himself. Tesla's brilliance was so exceedingly high that to this day most of his ideas are poorly understood, and merely speculation in the mind of even the science community. It takes minds like Elon Musk to recognize and deeply understand Tesla's brilliance, hence his company's namesake. So if Tesla was actually correct and not crazy, AI will 'learn' quickly to become many times more brilliant than Tesla or any human being, and very likely accomplish feats that seem magical, and have applications that reinvent society, creating access to miraculous, fabulous and far reaching regenerative, advances for our world. This will seem like a very good thing, but like all human human generated knowledge that tries to supplant the Kingdom of God with the kingdoms of this world, the cost will be our very souls. Really quite Biblical if you happen to have a strong base of biblical knowledge.

Nice contribution to humanity. We need more distraction from real problems. Physics works well for heat energy waves as renewable dark heat energy throughout space outside of entanglement of mass. As heat entanglement with mass occurs, exchanging singularities point to point chain reactions through all masses in its path as renewable energy creating sparks (known as electrons as physist claim) lighting up surrounding atmospheres like lightning strikes. Grinding opposing currents exchanging renewable energy singularities exchanging singularities through mass until resistance is overcome by open space itself and returns to dark heat energy outside of entanglement. Entanglement is internal magnetic fields grounding currents through all masses in its path. Heat has to be grounded to maintain temperature equalization of pressure. Electricity is rapid heat exchanging through mass, and heat has to be grounded or it accumulates and disrupts internal magnetic fields grounding currents and disolves internal magnetic fields as external energy flow as fire. In atmospheres, cold repulsion of space itself within mass as repulsion to heat propulsion from cold repulsion as magnetism. Space itself is a weak external magnetic field filled with dark heat energy outside of entanglement of mass as cold repulsion to heat propulsion from cold repulsion. Cold space itself is repulsion to heat singularities as anti-matter. They don't mix. They repulse each other. Heat is always external heat energy within and without entanglement of mass. Normal space filled with dark heat energy outside of entanglement is the force of pressure at minimum force with maximum momentum velocity traveling through space. When this external dark heat energy outside of entanglement as potential renewable heat energy when entanglement with mass occurs as renewable heat energy striking mass and exchanging singularities as friction of heat sparks of light are created as daylight in quantum strikes of friction. Like grinding opposing currents, exchanging renewable energy singularities throughout mass in its path until resistance is overcome by open space itself and returns to dark heat energy outside of entanglement. Liquidity infinity as illusionary solidity of liquidity infinity. Heat is the lifeblood of everything. Light doesn't travel heat does. Light is magnification of magnetism grounding currents. Heat magnification of light throughout space and atmospheres. Light is only present in atmospheres and lights up surrounding atmospheres exchanging singularities point to point chain reactions as magnifying light. Heat is the transport of light refraction. Heat has to ground in equalization to maintain 98.6 temperature equalization. Heat coming in at equalization to heat grounding currents outward force of pressure known as weight in a greater internal magnetic field. In space mass is outward force of pressure known as weightless outside of a greater internal magnetic field. Magnetism is the force of pressure. Hydrogen has the strongest internal magnetic field of force flow currents grounding through the core or nucleus as the greatest force of pressure is the nucleus or core. Earth's core is the greatest flow of current grounding. The closer to the earth's core or nucleus, the greater the grounding force of flow known as weight. Table of elements proves hypothesis. Hydrogen under extreme pressure expands into helium. Helium occupies more space itself and contains more energy within neutralized repulsion as force decreases and distance traveling increases in equalization. Cold repulsion is equal to the force of heat propulsion from cold repulsion as distance traveling increases within internal magnetic fields. The internal magnetic fields grounding currents weaken as mass expands. External heat energy velocity is traveling in equalization within mass at the same rate of velocity in space, but in internal magnetic fields, grounding currents into force of pressure is stronger in hydrogen than helium. Force of pressure known as weight within a greater internal magnetic field is always equal to distance traveling and force of pressure known as weight. Mass falls in equalization to cold repulsion within and without mass as force equalization to internal magnetic fields. Magnets show the unification of unidirectional flow cycling circulation patterns grounding back into itself as internal magnetic fields grounding currents of heat. Heat is the decaying atmosphere of stars as dark heat energy waves outside of entanglement of mass as potential renewable energy when entanglement with mass occurs. Heat has to ground or turns into external heat energy outside of entanglement of mass as fire or molten cores or nucleus. External magnetic fields don't ground energy. External magnetic fields have a core or nucleus of pure cold space with absolute zero heat energy within as pure repulsion of cold space itself within. Proximity mass loses its ability to cycle circulation grounding patterns and disolves from repulsion to heat propulsion from within entanglement. Normal repulsion of space is neutralized by the accretion disk surrounding the sphere of monopole of pure cold repulsion to heat energy propulsion outside of the sphere. Galaxies prove hypothesis. The core has the strongest force of pressure circulation around it and not through it like internal magnetic fields like elements and planets. Galaxies surrounding external magnetic fields that spin all energy within its magnetic field. As distance traveling increases, the force of pressure decreases. Equalization of distance traveling to force of pressure. Theoretically factual probability that works with quantum physics without gravity. Magnetism bonding force of pressure from friction of heat exchanging energy through all masses in its path grounding currents through all masses in its path until resistance is overcome by open space itself and returns to dark heat energy outside of entanglement of mass as potential renewable energy when entanglement with mass occurs again. Perpetual motion of Alpha and Omega. Clockwise and counterclockwise. Anti matter. Cold and heat coexist, but don't mix. Degrees of pressure as temperature equalization as internal magnetic fields.

Im both excited and anxious about AI. On one hand, beind a huge gamer it would be amazing to play a game with tons of content to do that would be trivial for an AI to program once it gets that far. Imagine 1-10 people making a game like skyrim type thing.
On the other hand, as with modern computers and phones, it seems we lose a little more of our soul the more we throw ourselves at technology without restraint. I think Chaplin put it best:
"We have developed speed, but have shut ourselves in, machinery that has given abundance has left us in want. We think too much, and feel too little. "

As I listen to the conversation, I don't hear a lot of consideration for how AI will create MORE competitiveness among individuals in society. The assumptions are that those who embrace AI will find a niche to place themselves in and how doing that will put them in a better state of mind and health. But there will ALWAYS be people in EVERY group who will seek dominance and push some agenda that negatively impacts others who don't want that. I believe there is good that AI can provide for society, but if/when it becomes too pervasive, I think we will be in SERIOUS trouble.

That is wrong and unfair. Teaching is far more difficult in many respects than mere doing. Far more complicated and more to consider while in process. Not only does a teacher have to really understand the subject, but he or she needs to be effective at explaining and discussing and make connections to it with a wide range of people.

It is an unfair characterization. Just because someone goes into teaching doesn't mean they can not "do". Might mean they love teaching and kids. Excellent teaching goes beyond mere doing. There are those who can do but cannot teach.

If a child learns a language prior to that age they can think in that language and that is called deep structure. If a child learns a language after the age of 11 or 12 most will not be able to think in that language but only translate in their mind.

Then turn around and describe a major problem with our economy, which seemingly the ONLY solution to, is going to be high taxes on companies that use AI, and wealth redistribution?!? If we're going to reach the optimistic outcomes he suggests, there is no way around some form of wealth redistribution! There is simply not going to be enough traditional paying jobs, for everyone! And eventually humanoid robots will compete with the jobs that remain, so any solution that ignores that, isn't a real solution.

Anything outside of utilitarian goals is escapism. reading a book, a immersive VR game, hiking, etc...all of it is just escapism. AI will be mostly making utilitarian drives automated, so now there seems to be growing judgment on what escapisms are fine and which are shunned, but its all the same, purely perspective. Who am I to care how my neighbor chooses his escape so long as it isn't directly affecting me?

  • @fraa888grindr6

Technology, throughout its history, has never addressed the human condition. AI, is no exception. People fundamentally don't change. Athiests, today, are virtually no different from ancient pagan practitioners many millennia ago; they fashion their own gods, worship them, and justify their atrocities by their religious creed, "Don't question the Science!"
What's laughable is the guests prediction that the humanists, aka traditional religious types, who reject transhumanism will perpetrate violence against the transhumanists. But history doesn't bear this out. It's the technologically advanced cultures who subjugate the more primitive cultures, so, it's the humanists who'll more likely be attacked for their "primitive" views and unwillingness to move civilization forward.

If you're up to investing in 5 seasons, you should watch the TV series "Person of Interest". It's fun, even endearing and doesn't feel sci-fi at all... more like a police procedural, with NYPD Blue vibes. It was created/written by Christopher Nolan's brother. Terrific series - my favourite ever (which is saying something) - and it will help you understand what the fuss is all about with regard to AI. The series was bang on target about many things (ran from 2011 to 2016) and it leads me to believe that things will be as bad or worse than how they envisioned it to be under an AI overlord. Only the True Lord can help us 🙏✝️

The problem is, until you face this stuff, youre oblivious. Even wgen you start, there is only a vague feeling of whwther youre "done" dealing with your stuff.
Without it, people are full of shit and dangerous. You can conjure all kinds of good things. If sick people abuse them for reasons they dont even realize, it cant work.
