Castilians Spaniard did ruled over the religious (Roman Catholicism) and political life of Puerto Rico aka Borikén(indigenous name of Puerto Rico), and Christopher Columbus came to the island for just a few years and then returned to Spain(taking with him teenage indigenous girls as a gifts of honor to the Spaniard Kingdom). However, many stayed. Among Puerto Rico's founding families were the Castilian Ponce de León family- until this day there is a famous statue of Juan Ponce de León, a Spanish explorer and conquistador from Valladolid, Spain who was Known for leading the First Official European expedition to Puerto Rico from 1508 - 1514. Also it was the Spainards & Portuguese not British who brought slavery to the American continent. In fact May Flower colonists were Puritans. They were against slavery. In 1854 formed Republican party to abolish slavery. So actually brown people owned slaves more than whites.
