Failed Black MIDI Projects

  • Watch till the end!! there's some important stuff mentioned. So yes, this is me exposing the fact that not all of my attempts of making black midis go well. I either ditch them because the melodies sucked, or i couldn't find a way to continue what i started. Some of these ended up being the project bones for other Black MIDI projects that actually made it. (you can probably guess which ones haha)
    Don't let this scare you in any way. I am already finishing up a new black MIDI! so stay tuned for that! And hopefully i can revive some of these projects.
    and yes i did make the song at the beginning and end

      Unbounded and Unbounded 2 were made from the remaining parts from 5K and 6K respectively when those were cancelled iirc

    Q: Who is your favorite blacker? This question is always needed in a Q&A :P
    Q2 (if I'm allowed to): I see you having lots of melody placement varieties that sound a lot different than actual piano sounds, which in case differs your melody style from Epre, Z-Doc and myself. How do you pick a melody that sounds unique and thematic to you, and how did you manage to create your own melody "style" that sounds like it has its own instruments, and not just piano?
    Q3 (again, if I'm allowed to): Your black MIDIs are probably made on 96ppq (default) compression in FL studio. Since you have a pretty strong computer, why not use max (960ppq), since the note art in your MIDIs tend to be a bit compressed?

    • @Architector_4
      @Architector_4 7 років тому

      Talking about 96ppq, he uses it. He uploaded .flp file of his "Pi" black midi that I downloaded, and I can confirm that it's in 96ppq.

    • @gingeas
      @gingeas 7 років тому +2

      Compressed? What do you mean? If you mean in PFA the note art looks "dark" because of how short the notes are, then upping it to 960ppqn would actually make the note art even shorter. Otherwise, disregard this comment.

    • @CarlosSMOfficial
      @CarlosSMOfficial 7 років тому +4

      Not all MIDIs from TSMB2 runs at 96 PPQ, eg, TFL runs at 768 PPQ and The Destroyer runs at 120 PPQ

      TBMP.mid apparently people talk in minor thirds when they're sad

    • @signisot5264
      @signisot5264 7 років тому

      Minor keys don't always sound "sad"
      If you chose the right key combinations (and not just playing a major chord in the middle of this minor 'piece') you can actually make it sound nice, in key, and 'happy' or 'upbeat'
      I have been messing around with my IRL piano recently in the key of C- and it sounds mostly sad (or like a tundra zone in a game) but at times it sounds encouraging or strong, not sad.
      It really depends on they keys you use.

    q
    How do you cram so many notes into one midi in a reasonable amount of time? Are each note composed into it? Do you combine files together? I'd love to know how an average Joe can learn to create black midis.

      Ben Jones you put some notes at low velocities so that they are barely audible

      HDSQ.mid I see. Though, how does one go and compose these notes? Like there's thousands of them per second sometimes. Do people use programs or open source archives to create all these quiet notes or does the composer just copy and paste until the point of millions?

      Ben Jones Yes. He uses FL Studio (I think 12). It allows you to add notes manually and change their velocity. A way to add many notes at once is to copy/paste a series of notes repeatedly.

      Ben Jones you use a Pianoroll editor such as Domino or FL Studio to make the awesome patterns
