  • Hello Everyone,
In this weeks episode Ash and I sit down to discuss why we cancelled our Next Gen Ford Ranger Wildtrack order that was due in the next few months.
We explain in both our minds what we didn't like about the Next Gen Ford Ranger WildTrack.
We then reveal our new 4wd project, show what car out there beats the Next Gen Ford Ranger Wildtrack....... The Toyota Landcruiser 79 series dual cab of cause. Is there any other car out there better then the 79 series?
We discuss all the pros and cons to the 79 series Landcruiser, run though all the talked about "problems" with the 79 series. Are the true or just a crock?
Hope you enjoy this one :)

Lots of excuses for purchasing, what is essentially a 40 year old barge. I thought you wanted a new car for your money? What you have is door cards, handles, A/C controls, fan switch, pedals etc from a 1983 75 series. Not to mention the disdain that Toyota treat their customers with by dishing out crap like a rear axle 100mm narrower than the front, a park brake that fails to work once it leaves the dealership, a turning circle that will require a paddock to turn in and a suspension system with less flex than a house brick. Sure you can spend up and fix all this crap that the factory didn't bother to, and bingo - you've just spent the equivalent of a new Ranger!

      Hey mate,
You buy a 79 because of the fact you are getting parts that are 30 years old. No issues everything just keeps on going, no electric 4wd to fail everything is manual. Considering the new Rangers transmission is failing under load and engines are blowing under load, looks like we made the right choice 🙂

Are you talking about the output on the v6 twin turbo? at 184kw? I'd be far more worried about their bi-turbo pumping out 157kw from a 2.0L
You have to understand, engine tech has come a long way. 184kw from a v6 TD is pretty well nothing. The PS motor has been on offer for a while in the states and is in huge demand with minor issues to the motor itself. I think the v6 is an absolutely fantastic option and had I not had a v8 cruiser, the everest v6 would 100% be sitting in my driveway.
The other thing I'd like to ask for clarification on, you said 'There's a lot of other car out there that have a lot bigger motors that when people tune them safely, they still don't put the numbers out that the ranger is putting out.'
You're talking about wheel HP vs flywheel HP. Flywheel will always be far higher than wheel due to drive-train losses. For reference, my cruiser is promoted as having 200kW when in reality, I put around the 130-140kW to the wheels. Tuned, I'd be lucky to make that 200kW at the wheels unless I upgrade turbo's and injectors.

      G'Day mate,

Yep talking about the 6 cylder Lion engine, agreed the 4 cylder is much worse.
Yes cars have advanced but I disagree they have gotten better, EGRs and DPFs kill the lifespan of modern desels. There is a reason why you don't see them on trucks.
Yeah the stats the car manufacturers give us are not the try figures as they don't measure at the wheels like a dyno does. Looking at ranger motor in its past formats in F150 and Rang Rover this is the hardest it's been pushed yet. We just feel we will get a far longer and less headache of a life from the 79 then we will the new ranger.

@@Off.Track4x4 I disagree with your dpf statement. Isuzu have been running them for years in their trucks.
I agree with your egr statement.
Be super careful with the catch can. I've seen and heard plenty of issues with people installing catch cans backwards and blowing seals. Get it tuned and just the egr off. No catch can required then.
