    Hey is there a way to perhaps REPLACE a song's master audio file and keep it's play count and everything else the same? e.g. maybe there's an error in the master wav that you didn't catch until after it had been released - you've now addressed it and amended it and want to replace the original master with a new revised one but not go through any "remastered" additional tracks etc?

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth 3 роки тому +2

      A lot of artists start on free distributors or distributors that don't charge an up-front fee but may take a cut. Down the line when your music starts doing well you realize you're paying WAY more in that percentage cut than you would just paying the up-front fee, so people switch.
      For example I use DistroKid which charges a yearly subscription, as low as $20/year if you're on the cheapest plan for unlimited releases. If you were on CD Baby who takes a 9% cut, for 100,000 Spotify streams over the course of a year you'd be losing about $27 in their cut, and for 1 million streams you'd be losing $270. Even though DistroKid charges you every single year to keep your music up you're actually saving money since they don't take a percentage.
      Aside from stuff like that, the other reason may just be features or services the distributor sends to.

    perfectly explained, thanks a lot man. Just had one question transferring catalogue to distrokid from another distributor. What if one song I am transferring across is a cover song being ONLY uploaded to Spotify? I know that Spotify automatically sorts out mechanical licenses, so is it okay to simply choose that its an original and then include the original writers in the metadata? I don't know if choosing the cover option will mess up the transfer process, since distro is one of the only ones that have that service.
