  • Steven Pincus is the Thomas E. Donnelly Professor of British History and the College at the University of Chicago. He is a prominent scholar of Early Modern British History and author of the widely acclaimed 1688: The First Modern Revolution. In his current research, Professor Pincus focuses on the central role of the imperial state and approaches the British Empire as a global phenomenon. Rather than viewing the British Empire as one dependent on a binary relationship between Britain and its colonies, Professor Pincus argues that it is essential to think the empire whole.
