If Snyder wanted so badly to set Man of Steel apart from the Reeve movies, he could have started with not killing Jonathan. That's the funny thing to me, with all the talk about trying to separate the movie from what came before, he still used so many ideas and tropes that originated in the Reeve movies(wise, sage-like hologram Jor-El sending Clark on a mission to be the world's savior being one).

I love how instead of just showing a picture of Brainiac for when he mentions him, it just shows Piccolo from Dragonball Evolution. Funnily enough, Man of Steel is a better Dragonball movie despite still not being very good
Random fun fact: Lana Lang, Superman 3's new love interest, is played by Annette O'Toole, who's Supermans mother in the show Smallville (aka the best show of all time).
4:08 - 4:13, Superman didn't kill Zod in cold blood or the other two Kryptonians. He simply tossed Zod into the ice wall, and he slid down. It was clear that Superman was holding back against the powerless Zod because he didn't toss Zod through the ice wall of his fortress. Plus, Non fell on his own and Lois knocked Ursa down.
He broke Zod's hand with a smirk. Zod didn't slide down. He fell. You can't slide down a perfectly vertical wall. And then immediately after, Superman goes to smooth talk Lois. No screams of anguish, or regret, or any thoughts at all on overcoming his great struggle. Nothing. He just goes to lay pipe with Lois.
@@apuapu4545don't confuse falling with sliding. Actually watch the scene again. Zod slid down the slope, not fell down. Also, considering that Zod and his people threatened the lives of Lois and the people of earth, he's lucky that a broken hand is all that he got. Don't pretend that man of steel did Superman better when they clearly had him kill Zod in that film. Superman didn't kill Zod in either version of Superman 2. Plus, Superman killing Zod in man of steel is completely forgotten about in the next scene, so it has no lasting impact in that film.
@@memecliparchives2254 I am not making any excuses. I am stating the facts. Superman didn't kill Zod in either version of Superman 2, but Zack Snyder clearly had Superman kill Zod in his film.
@@StareachValcin You should try *sliding* down the side of a completely vertical building. You slide really good when the wall is 90 degrees from the ground. Also, your second criticism is weird since Superman killing (or "just" brutalizing) Zod is forgotten in the very same scene it happens in.

Much appreciated that you made this video, Bolt. Superman is my all-time favourite superhero (DC Comics or otherwise) & anything that spreads the word on how great of a character he is is much needed.
@@powerbad696 I really liked season 1 of Superman & Lois. Season 2 hasn't aired on my TV networks yet, but I'll continue watching until it goes on too long (like Arrow & The Flash). I haven't seen Superman Returns in years, but I plan on revisiting it soon (& I might update this reply once that happens). Man of Steel was not my cup of tea. It tried its best, but the gloomy tone & over-the-top action made it not fun. But at the very least, it's miles better than it's garbage follow-up.
I've been watching your vids since nearly the beginning and it's been amazing seeing your content evolve and grow! Another great video as always, Bolt, keep up the great work!
I actually love superman returns the title sequence is so memorable and I believe Brandon Routh was great casting, it’s just a shame he didn’t have more to do.
I can imagine if Dimond Bolt does a Batman one he will probably review some of the animated one and say most of them are better then most of the live action ones witch is fair
Richard Donner didn't intend for Zod and the others to die--there's some TV versions that exist that show Lex, Zod, Ursa and Non all get arrested by Arctic Police in the background. I believe Donner would have put it into his own cut, but I don't think he managed to film their intended defeat, so he used the cut that was used in the theatrical Lester version where Superman and Lois *murder* them. As you said, the two movies were intended to be one film, so Superman turning back time was only supposed to happen once--but him doing it twice in the Donner cut was the only way it could make sense anymore.
I think making it less about Richard Pryor would have helped(still a main character but not to the point of overshadowing Superman). The concept itself wasn't bad, in a sense, the villain was a prototype for businessman Lex. And the evil Superman subplot bears similarities to a red kryptonite storyline from the silver age(where Superman and Clark are split into two with Clark being good and powerless and Superman being evil and powerful and declares himself king).
I'm so happy you're doing Superhero movies again! And it's Superman. I'm gonna watch this video on repeat. Keep up the great work. Did you hear there's a new animated TMNT movie coming?
What people doesnt like about superman return: he doesnt ever fight at all What people openly talk about why they don't like man of steel: He fights too much, too much destruction What did people expect? Its SUPERMAN, a literal god like being who can fly through buildings Thats like saying they release a dragon ball animated or live action(hopefully not we know what happened) you go see it, come out of the theater and say "I don't like it, too much fighting", its dragon ball However I do agree that there should've been more scenes of just saving people as well in man of steel
I think people hated the overblown violence of Man of Steel because the other Superman movies were a lot more focused on him just helping people, not blowing up cities. You expect city destroying fights in Dragon Ball because that's what Dragon Ball has done for the past 40 years, most people didn't expect it from Superman.
Man of steel is really underrated, I think it's perfect, people just don't like because it's not "comic accurate" like it's a origin story the character still doesn't know who he is yet. Either they don't like it because they are used to Christopher reeve Superman, or because at that time marvel and the dark knight trilogy was really popular.
half the lines in the man of steel are from comics like all star superman and for all seasons./Birthright. this movie is very comic accurate it just extended the realism and make supes grounded . which comics have done in the past for superman.
@@Mi_tala no but like they should because they’re literal adaptations of the characters If Superman doesn’t act like Superman from the comics that’s a problem because Superman from the comics is Superman. If the lord of the rings movies just changed a bunch of shit for no reason nobody would like them as much as they do because they wouldn’t be accurate to the source material A change here or there is fine to fit the different medium but at the end of the day the core of the work should still be there Man of Steel did not have the core of Superman. Superman isn’t a character that needs to find his place he’s a character that helps others find their place.
@@hasthehighground8560 like i said "not all movie must 100% comic accurate"i never said movie should not be comic accurate but it should be not exact stories as the comic or that would be too predictable and boring
I know you're watching these films as an adult but it's weird to hear someone talk about Superman 3 and not mention the scene when the woman gets turned into a robot. That scene scared/creeped out many many children! It's the one scene everyone who grew up with the film talks about.
@@asura7915it's kinda crazy how the concept of a guy with powers who wants to help with no ulterior motives is something see as unrealistic and boring. People have literally adopted Lex's ideology over the years and that's genuinely a shame.
Half and half. People did get tired of Superman being good because it's just mostly being a cheesy grandstanding showoff that tries to distract a situation. Mind you, there are other stories of Superman that tell his actual genuine goodside where he is being actually being humble and compassionate. His character isn't defined by how many smiles he shows or neither how many cats he saves from trees and what not. But his character shines the most in line with his roots are what you said the simple things when he's being empathetic regardless of friend or foe, whether he's simply stopping someone from committing suicide genuinely or maybe even simple conversations with people. And even if there are times that he will battle, he shouldn't waste time quipping that he's this symbol of what or prepare to face this, just save people. If he grandstands so much, that rubs people the wrong way.
When you said, that the fight-scenes made it feel like a live action Dragon-ball fights, I was reminded of Dragon Ball Evolution. And then got thinking; What if Man of steel and DBM swapped movie scripts. With Man of Steels's action packed scene between Super man and the invaders who are also Khryptonians, and DBM's coming of age, non-violent film. Could it make a differences?
Brandon Routh's Superman actually returned in the a crossover even in the arrowverse called crisis on infinite earths where he mentions when he faught himself in superman 3. This means that superman returns would have to take at least after superman 3 but you could throw it after 4 if you wanted
No offense dude, but it annoys me when people say that SIII is cannon to SR because of that episode. First off, you don’t know if he was referencing the fight ih SIII. Second, if SIII were cannon, him/Lois would not have a kid in SR. And SIV sure as hell ain’t cannon to SR because everyone looked way too young in the latter film. Heck, they did even when you consider SII cannon.

I wish more people would be like you and actually consume Superman media before claiming that Supes is borning. Cuz I love all the Superman films. Except Superman IV, that fuckin succkkkksss-
I honestly just want a new Superman movie that is hopeful, and fun. Superman needs his version of The Batman, a movie with a new actor and new director that feels like the perfect version of the character. We’ve been having too many characters who are basically Superman but evil or dicks, like Omni-Man and Homelander. Even DC has been doing too much evil Superman. Superman and Lois on the CW feels like the last remaining version of Superman as a symbol of hope.
I didn't really mind superman but I can't see why people dislike him. Could you do the amazing Spider-Man movies next or just Spiderman in general?❤️❤️🐢
Henry Cavill acts more like Superman in interviews than in the movies. He's a great pick, it's just that the writing and direction is uhhhhh questionable.
@@memecliparchives2254 he wasnt the best choice. I dont hate man of steel, but its just not for me and I dont think the character fits snyder's style of directing. Jon watts did fine with spiderman but he also wasnt incredible
Superman is the only hero that no movie can ever perfect. Something about him is just so unique that no director can make him interesting and he just falls flat in like almost every movie.
i guess your correct on that but i feel like for a new generation they always are going to be saying superman’s lame, and not even trying to realize how really cool superman is.
My favorite part of Man of Steel was in the Smallville fight sequence when he catches the helicopter pilot and then checks to make sure he's okay. That was perhaps the most 'Superman' moment in the entire film.
My biggest complaint with man of steel is the colors. How do you make Superman’s suit somehow visually dull? Just the muted colors make it hard for me to watch the movie. Not to mention that zoom in technique that is used constantly in the film and gets older quick. I still like it. I wish BvS had carried Superman’s character over from Man of steel
@Erik Kemeey there’s a difference between visuals and color grading. The color grading I the film just irritates me and Superman’s suit is way to dark. I said “how do you make Superman’s suit visually dull” not that the movie is always like that.
His character was carried, he was still wanting to help people but they were afraid and question him and made it made him realize that him helping people out in the open is more difficult than he expected, making him feel insecure but he still tries to help. I never thought that the MOS suit was dull in color I really liked the dark navy blue.
That’s what I love about the complainants about Man of Steel’s ending, they completely forget Reeves murdered the Kryptonians after basically turning them into humans 😆. Also I haven’t heard “dicksplash” since the English dub of the 80’s Appleseed animated movie.
I like how they reused actors from previous Superman properties and had them show up in Smallville and Supergirl (TV Show), like Dean Cain (Lois and Clark) as an immortal serial killer in Smallville, and Kara's father in Supergirl. But also Annette O'Toole (Lana Lang in Superman iii) as Martha Kent in Smallville. Or even just straight up Christoper Reeve as Dr. Virgil Swan in Smallville.
It amazes me that even after all this time, people are still stuck up on the whole Metropolis fight scene MoS. It made complete sense to me and what I would expect to happen if something like that actually happened. If you all wanted the campy Superman that saved cats out of trees, you should've supported Superman Returns. I guess the problem is, the MCU has convinced you all that super hero movies can only be made one way.
You said everything that I have felt for a long time. It's so absurd that MoS is still debated. It's such a great movie that portrays Superman as a person with flaws and emotions rather than a person who just knows how to do everything right. We have gotten so many versions of Superman that were lighthearted and campy but still, people feel like there is only one way to portray the character. I'd say 99% of criticism of MoS is toxic and done in bad faith.
Man of Steel doesn't get enough credit for showing that there is more to a Superman live action movie than just trying to imitate the Christopher Reeve original over and over again. There are so many ideas big and small, visual and thematic, that could be expanded, or follow its example and make something else that is wild based on the almost 100 years of comics... but people tend to gloss over it all in favor of the drama and the memes. I fear the next solo movie will pull a Rise Of Skywalker, too obsessed with pleasing the people that didn't like the previous one by making a shallow imitation of the "original". They may even have Clark do horrible stuff but make him smile and crack jokes or cool one -liners so it makes it ok somehow.
That was the Josstice League. Luckily the Snyder Cut actually showed heart and humility of Superman at times which is an underrated side of him as opposed to being this grandstanding one lining cheesy show off that rubs people the wrong way.
@@memecliparchives2254 the Snyder cut didn't show any of Superman's heart or humility. The theatrical cut was the version that did that. In the Snyder cut, Superman doesn't have any real connection to the justice league. Name one time that Clark talks to any members of the justice league in the Snyder cut other than Bruce. You can't because it never happened. Superman is on the team without being part of the team. At least in the theatrical cut, Superman actually connects with the justice league, even having conversations with them.

Jay Oliva explained the reason why he didn't catch the truck has to do with how they built the cinematography of the scene. It's completely technical.
I'm saying this because a lot of people tend to bring it up.
It’s nice to see Diamondbolt covering good movies. Helps him recover from mistakes like Morbius.

Superman Returns was boring and bland for me. 270 mil ??? WOW.And I didn't want to see a sequel directed by Singer. But,I loved Man of Steel !!! Thought it was GREAT !!! LOL.

Wrong if you actually factor in marketing & actual cost not Hollywood accounting cost the fact it actually cost & believe me I was dumb founded around 325 million dollars.
Honestly after these rough few years the optimism and hope that Superman inspires in me to be a better person and always give others a chance while taking better care of myself is what I needed. He’s a genuinely good person that embodies what we need, heroes who lift us up and into people who can make the world a better place.
They were filming Superman 1 & 2 at the same time. So, even the original film didn't end like it was supposed to.
With the earthquake scenes, Superman was supposed to hurl the one missile into space, saving everyone.
But what they don't realize is that missile breaks the 3 super villains free from the phantom zone. A cliffhanger for a Superman II. -OG

I love how instead of just showing a picture of Brainiac for when he mentions him, it just shows Piccolo from Dragonball Evolution. Funnily enough, Man of Steel is a better Dragonball movie despite still not being very good
I'm still salty that we never got a live action brainiac
@@owyemen9367 it's actually sad that the only live action version is----

Brainiac must have some sort of voodoo curse that prevents him from being adapted into a live-action movie series.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses

Nothing beats watching Superman 1 & 2 as a kid with your family. Good times
As a very, very, very, very hardcore fan, I’m glad we have converted you from one of the “Superman is boring” people
I actually love superman returns the title sequence is so memorable and I believe Brandon Routh was great casting, it’s just a shame he didn’t have more to do.
Same here buddy
Well, he did do more things as Superman in CW Arrowverse
superman flying scene in man of steel goes so hard
You know what could've saved Superman 3? Make it about Bizzaro who would do the exact opposite of Superman.
Yes! I had the same idea!
“It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no …it’s DIAMONDBOLT”

Did you hear there's a new animated TMNT movie coming?
What people doesnt like about superman return: he doesnt ever fight at all
What people openly talk about why they don't like man of steel: He fights too much, too much destruction
What did people expect? Its SUPERMAN, a literal god like being who can fly through buildings
Thats like saying they release a dragon ball animated or live action(hopefully not we know what happened) you go see it, come out of the theater and say "I don't like it, too much fighting", its dragon ball
However I do agree that there should've been more scenes of just saving people as well in man of steel
Nobody complained that he fights too much
@TheGlassesPro Yeah, he destroys millions of dollars worth of buildings, fighting isn't the issue
@@bibblehouse well then I guess they don't really know superman, he fights literal gods in the comics that can destroy planets
@TheGlassesPro Superman’s whole thing is that he isn’t bleak or hopeless. He’s the best of the heroes. Man of steel sucks.
Ikr,not every superhero movie must be comic accurate, heck make it comic accurate is worse so,
half the lines in the man of steel are from comics like all star superman and for all seasons./Birthright.
this movie is very comic accurate it just extended the realism and make supes grounded .
which comics have done in the past for superman.

A change here or there is fine to fit the different medium but at the end of the day the core of the work should still be there Man of Steel did not have the core of Superman.
Superman isn’t a character that needs to find his place he’s a character that helps others find their place.

People make Superman dark because they think that his goodness is boring. In reality, his goodness is really interesting, and he makes it cool.
Diamondbolt, please do another video on an asylum movie, those are always the best.

When you said, that the fight-scenes made it feel like a live action Dragon-ball fights, I was reminded of Dragon Ball Evolution. My fetish for superhero movies is when the heroes save people because they can and I love it
Brandon Routh's Superman actually returned in the a crossover even in the arrowverse called crisis on infinite earths where he mentions when he faught himself in superman 3.

The Batman wasn't even the perfect version of the character.

Watch out, a toxic stans named Valacin or something will pull lame excuses to justify it lol.
At least your not playing Superman 64 Bolt because that game is torture
