Jet noise. The sound of freedom!
Yes! Being an AF BRAT & AF Vet, Mom to an AF BRAT & ARMY Vet ~and~ Grandma to two ARMY BRATS, the Sound of Freedom is one I hold dear! 😊
Now I will try hexagons. I was putting off doing one until I watched your video.
Me too! I loved Lisa's video!
Updating my previous comment...you are a genius. Making hatch marks on the hexagon corners is much more effective than a dot, & it has made sewing my 17 inch hexies so easy !!
I looked at this on my design wall for 2 days deciding hexie placement & then found your video. Am assuming same technique will work for 120 degree inserts on the sides. Thanks again.
Thank you so much! I have a quilt that is more then 40 years in the making. The story is my hubbys Mom started this quilt years ago, but never finished.
So I’ve decided it was time to finish, hence we’ve been married 31 years. I stored it away in a cedar chest, and got inspired to finish, but didn’t even know how? This for me is a BIG undertaking, as I have never hand stitched or attempted to make a quilt, EVER ! I know it’s not going to be perfect ,but at least finished. Your tutorial helped me understand about , so a BIG thank you.
For someone who has always handsewn hexagons, you have encouraged me to think about machine sewing hexagons, which I've always been nervous about tackling. Thank you for a lovely tutorial ❤
Yes! That would be me...dreading the construction of the Hexies that I've long admired.
Thank you, so much!
You are so welcome, my pleasure :)
You have definitely inspired me to have a go at this Lisa. I have started to use freezer paper and PVA glue for applique since watching you. I love your sweet self deprecating teaching. Have confidence in yourself Lisa. You are an excellent teacher. Hello from England!
BEST EVER!!! Thank You..I feel much more confident.
I loved the way Lisa explained this technique. I felt that some of the other clips on UA-cam missed stages which aren't obvious to us beginners with lots of non specific 'chatter'. Thanks Lisa, I'm off to practise now !
Thank you so much for the awesome feedback :)
Thank you Lisa for your clear and concise instructions ❤
Excellent tutorial on sewing hexagons by machine. This is going to be an awesome memory quilt.
This is a fantastic tutorial. Thank you for your detailed and to the point instructions. I had a friend pick which quilt she liked best. I was secretly hoping she wouldn't pick the hexagon quilt...well, she did! And I was like, "Oh boy! 😬" Now after watching this video, I think I can do it for her. Thanks again!
Thank you you made it very clear on how to do this. I had cut out blocks to make a queen size quilt. Didn’t realize I needed help to put them together, so now I have learned something new from you. Thanks again for sharing.
Thank you! Very helpful. I am making three little quilts for my triplet great grand babies due this summer. Their mom is a beekeeper so I’m using hexies to make them look like honeycomb. I’ve not done hexies before so I’m glad I found this tutorial!
aweee, triplets! Congratulations, I hope you enjoy making your quilts :)
And a very wonderful Pi-day to you too! Excellent tutorial, step by step!
Bonnie Lee. Thanks Bonnie ♡♡♡
There are certain things I refuse to attempt in sewing and hexies are one of them. To me the headache is simply not worth it, but you Lisa will overcome anything!
Thanks so much for your help and inspiration. I am going to attempt my first hexagon quilt now!
This is wonderful! I only did hexagons with EPP. Now I can use my scraps to make a quilt using the acrylic shapes. Thank you for doing the work and tackling the seams!
The best hexie tutorial I have seen. Thanks for your time and tips. God bless you.
thank you soooo so much Cherrylyn!
I love hexagons and use the quilt as you go method. I make 8, 10, 12, 14 ,16 inch hexagons. I hand sew them, but they can be done by machine.
This tutorial was very helpful! I did my first hexie project with your help! Thank you!
Beautiful stitching. Thank you. You did a great job.
Thanks for your tips! I am definitely going to try a hexi quilt now❤️
Thank you so much, it makes it less scary the way you show us step by step 😊
Felicia Joneslocke my pleasure!
Am a 40 year quilter. Your video is the best I ever saw So easy to follow and understand.
Wow, this is such a compliment, thank you so much!
Thank you so much for your hexagon quilt clip. I have had some fantastic fabric for a hexagon quilt top but didn't have the confidence to start it. Thanks to you and your give it a go attitude, plus the very clear clip. I have started mine. Very happy. Thank you
After taking years off between quilts, and my next attempt being a Hexie chicken wire quilt, this video reminded me of skills long forgotten, thanks for the refresher!
Wow Lisa you are just an amazing teacher!! Thank you so much.. you help make everything easier than what it really is..
Yayyy!! Thank you ♡

this was very helpful, wish I had seen this about a week ago when I was making a small topper, Believe it or not it ended up in the trash. As I said this was so very helpful!! Thank You

This is great and super helpful. I love the look of hexi quilts so much.
Nita Break thank you!
Thank you for your logical insights on sewing hexies. I have mine cut out and then I froze. You made me feel less intimidated. Thanks.
Thank you LIsa! And trust me, you are an expert at quilting! I am beginning to quilt and can only hope to get as good as you!
all it takes is time and practice :) you'll get there!!
Thanks for this tutorial Lisa. I got hexagon templates from my husband at Christmas time and your tutorial has inspired me to attempt a hexi quilt 👍
Thank you for this, have made hexies before, all by hand. But this is great to machine stitch.....
Thanks you for the information.I Love the noise it makes me fell safe.
Hello lovely Lisa I really learned a lot from your fabulous tutorial. I love hexagons but have always made a mess of them, now I understand why. You explain everything so clearly and make things easy to understand. I am sure your client will be thrilled with their quilt, it is so obvious that you put a lot of thought and love into all of your memory quilts. Have a wonderful weekend Lisa, sending you warmest hugs and loves xxxxxxxDorothy 🙋🏻😘❤️
I'm so glad you enjoyed this...I always wonder....am I making sense or goofing up hahahaaa. Thank you for being so awesome!
I really appreciate the simple yet detailed instructions and tips in this video. I’ve made a few quilts, but I’m by no means experienced at it, and your tutorial gave me the confidence to create a hexagon quilt pattern for a baby blanket as a gift. It is slow going, but the end result is really cool!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank You!! I am sewing mine with you. You had clear instructions making it easy to follow.
sewing party!!!! hahahaa......I'm so glad this video was helpful for you Deborah!
The sounds of Freedom! Love it
Me too!!
Love your attitude.
Very helpful. I’ve just started quilting ... haven’t even finished one yet. I would love to try this too. I like the hexagon quilts with bees on them 😊
I used this video to make my hexagon backing for my wall hanging for my sister. Here’s my picture. Thank you Lisa! It worked GREAT! I could not add a picture. So sorry.
This is really helpfull!! You make it sound very doable for a newby to patchwork/quilting. Can't wait to start!
Thanks so much for the great tutorial! I’m tackling my first hexagon quilt.
You can do it Grace!!
Thank you for such a wonderful post. I’ve been afraid to tackle Hexies, but think I’ll give it a shot.

Fab tutorial thanks! You make it look a lot less intimidating than I thought it was - looking forward to giving it a go!
You can do it!
I came across this video and realized I have a box full of hand sewn flowers made from the hexi and I now see how to do it by machine, so I can now add all my flowers together. freeing up another box of needed projects to be finished . Thank you
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much for explaining this technique!!!
You are very welcome, I'm glad I could pass along the info :)
Thank you for such a detailed explanation! I am currently sewing and watching along to see if I can conquer this skill!😉
You can do it!
Thank you thank you i to have just started to learn and im very intimidated by hexagons but you have made it so easy thank you will be starting my first
Just found your site today, thank you, for showing, how to sew hexies together. You explained everything, I have always been a little afraid of doing this. But I am certainly going to have a go now.
You can do it Suzzanne! Just like anything, it's a little tricky at first but once you get the hang of it....off ya go!! Thanks for watching :)
Your quilt looks great! Never had a great desire to try the hexies too time consuming for one thing. If I ever do get the urge I’ll cheat and join half hexies to make a whole hexie even though there would be a center seam. Admire your tenacious attitude to get it to work for you! So happy to see your smiling friendly face. Waiting patiently for your next video.
Sandra Richmond hi Sandra :) I almost went the half hexie route hahaaa. I'm working on a "mystery quilt" project with videos coming soon for that, should be fun!
This was so helpful . Thank you ! I decided to cut larger hexis so it's easier to draw and see the 1/4 inch seam line. I never thought to do that . Draw the seam line. That's gonna make this so much easier.
Glad it was helpful!
Never made a quilt before...but started with a hexagon quilt!! But i did it all by hand!! Using paper inside!! It was a lot of work..but i am very happy how it turned out!! Now i have to put a a filler and back to it!!
My first quilt top was PPE and all by hand. Hexagonal pieces added up to 4,444 pieces doublebed. Sadly I lost my quilt top 😔 😞 😢 😕 but now I am going to do another one. I am so excited to have found this 😍 video. Thanks for your help 👍 🙂 🙏 😊
Way to go, Harlan! This is my favorite quilt shape along with Sunbonnet Sue.
Thank you for this awesome video. I am making a 1 inch hexagon quilt. I have done a bunch of it by EPP. But it take so long to do one flower. I will see if I can try it this way. Thanks again for sharing your time with all of us. ❤️❤️❤️
Wow this is Amazing Lisa you always make it look so easy thank you for sharing (smiles)
Thank you Janet!!!! Happy Easter :)
Hi Lisa I learned about Hexagon quilting when I was at secondary school my teacher was old school and we had to put material over a paper hexagon then tack it into place, then iron before sewing by hand each individual hexagon we did not cut any off at the end of the rows we made half hexagons the quilts were quite stunning once finished. keep up the good work.
Thank you for sharing your story ♡♡♡
Wow your teacher taught you English Paper Piecing. I respect her for that!
Great presentation and lots of helpful tips. Thank you.
Wonderful tutorial -- your patience with sewing the hexies is very calming -- I look forward to making a quilt like yours. Thank you so much for showing us how this can be done !!! I look forward to any of your future tutorials -- you're a great teacher!!
Aweee Nancy you made my day! Thank you ♡
You are POWER gurl
You are Lisa

Jedi is probably my favorite old pattern for a quilt. I have never done one, though. This is a great video and I will try one now. Tfs. You did a great job of teaching the technique. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Makes good sense. Thank you
Thanks for this video. I have wanted to try making a hexagon quilt. Absolutely no experience, but experienced with a lot of other crafts. Your video went a long way to explaining the do's and don'ts. I will hopefully share a picture eventually when I get to make this.
Doesn't it make the heart feel good to know you tackled another challenge....😉😉😉😉 good job!
Yes! You are so right!! It did feel really good stretching myself out of my "comfort" zone and accomplishing a quilt that I had been intimidated to try :) Thanks for watching and the awesome feedback!

You encouraged me ♡♡♡♡ thanks Mom, I love you!!
Love you too.
Just getting started in sewing with hexies....enjoyed the video..alot of help!

Warmest greetings from Cape Town, South Africa. What an absolutely well-presented tutorial. It so helped me do this the right way the first time! Not yet close to making a quilt, but I am using hexagons to make some very interesting-looking tote bags!
This is a great video explaining each step for a new quilter such as me. Thanks
Thanks for watching!

Thankyou so much, I want to make a hexagon quilt but was dreading it. You’ve just made that super easy 😊
You’re welcome 😊
Great explanation! Vey informative. 😊
Thank you, will have a go now, nice clear instructions x
Very good instructions. I have always shied away from Y seams. This is encouraging. Tfs
I'm so glad this video was helpful for you Dianne!!!
I’ve decided to start quilting, and somehow I decided my first quilt would be a hexagon one, without realising the difficulty of the seams, thank you for making such a comprehensive and beginner friendly video on this
Thank you for this! I chose a hexagon quilt for my very first quilting project! It was only after cutting a million little hexagons that I realized I had no idea how to sew them!
You can do it Drea!
That was amazing and very helpful! I may tackle hexagons now! I think I’ll start small with a table runner though.
Nice job but I will continue to hand sew all my hexies. I prefer EPP for hexagons. This would drive me to trash the project so I'm happy you have the patience for this tedious machine sewing. ❤❤
Well done tutorial. You have a delightful, infectious laugh.
Thank you so much Deborah!
Thankyou for the tips and advice attempting a big hexagon quilt now
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks for your advice.
You're welcome
Thank you so much. I wish I had seen this video when I did my table piece
I was glad I could share my learning process, thanks for watching!
Great tutorial! Thank you
Lisa, this is a very nice tutorial. Thank you. I have learned lots.
I'm so glad this was helpful for you Lila!
Thank you so much! I was so nervous to quilt a hexagon quilt cause I couldn't wrap my head around it. This video helped a ton!
I'm so glad this video was helpful! If I can do it....YOU can do it :)
I just purchased a hexagon ruler and found your tutorial... thank you!!!
glad I could pass along the tips!
Hi there from Costa Rica ... Thank you so much for helping me with my hexagon quilt.
Happy to help!
You explained very well
There is a really cool ruler/tool that marks the quarter inch point based on the angle. It's a life saver with Y seams. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome! I don't know how many more hexie quilts I will do hahaaa....but if there are more in my future I will try finding it for sure :)
Lisa Capen Quilts I bet. What’s really helpful is you can use it on any piece with an angle, I.e triangles, squares, etc. It marks the quarter inch spot. Thanks for another great video. 😊
