Hi @ClevelandTerry, Currently, I own a Pioneer DDJ SZ, a Rane One, and two Rane Twelves with a Pioneer S11 Mixer. Today, I sold my DDJ SZ and purchased the Rane Performer. When I DJ weddings, I use a controller at the ceremony, another setup at the cocktail hour, and a third setup at the reception (I know it's overkill, but it works for me). I'll be using the Rane Performer as my main gear at the reception, and my Rane Twelves will be used at the cocktail hour instead of the other way around, lol. You did a fantastic review; it answered almost everything I needed to know except for one thing. You didn't mention that Rane took away the Touch Strip/search strip (only seen on the Rane One). So, my question is: how do you skip through a song or scroll through the track to find a specific part in a song like on the Rane One, but on the Rane Performer without using your laptop? No controller is perfect or will appeal to every DJ-we always find something to gripe about, lol. Personally, I prefer a large-sized controller like the Rane Performer, which is why I held onto my DDJ SZ for so long. I can't wait to take this new bad boy out for a spin. BTW, I also DJ at clubs, bars, events, etc., but here in Canada, I use my best equipment only at weddings. Anyways, keep doing what you do, you are obviously one of the top UA-cam review DJ's in my opinion, so the words you say during your reviews matter a lot to us lessor known DJ's. Thank you for putting in the work that it takes to create these videos.
Absolutely phenomenal review Cleveland! With all the options and incredible built in features, this controller will become a major staple in the DJ community! As someone who was a longterm user of the Numark NS7ii this feels like everything we've wanted with a futuristic feel! Thanks again for the detailed review! Cheers
I've had turntables, CDJ's, Various controllers and never really used RANE because it seemed to be marketed at turntablists. Then recently, I got one from RANE. after a gig I did for them and using this thing feels like I've come full circle with all my experiences as a DJ combined in one device. I am SO impressed and mesmerized with this unit. It literally brings together the best of all worlds in one device. The only gripe I have with it is that I wish it was a standalone unit with two more USB inputs to connect some extra controllers to it from for example Denon. That would make it my holy grail of controllers then
Thank you Terry, I have the rane one, and was going to order the performer in a couple of days, I wasn’t sure until I seen your video I’m going to order it sometime this week now thanks bro appreciate ya 🤙🏾
I really like that idea of installing a light on the effects knobs. I HAVE accidentally brought a track in on deck 2 not knowing the filter was engaged. Great stuff, Mr. T.
I just purchased it after seeing this! Finally!! I've been waiting for this! I've had the NS7II for a long time and when Serato quit supporting it, I was bummed that I wasn't able to use Stem Separation! Now I'll be able to do so much more! Can't wait to start practicing!
The NS7 iii is still supported, cause its class compliant. The Performer adds more functions, but you still will be able to use the NS7 iii. Prices on any plattforms should go down for the III now. I am going to sell my 2 III's now. Should be around 500 - 600 Euros.
Excellent review... I have been a rane user for many years, actually I own the rane 4 and look in the near future to get this one! The weight is not a big deal for me, I prefer something that is made of metal that plastic/toys controllers (pioneer controllers)
My brother and I had that same conversation when the rumors about the Performer hit and we said $2K would be the perfect figure as well. It's a good price. Thank you Rane and thanks for another great video C.T.
Hey Terry, do you see a Rane One MK2, with these amazing updates like onboard fx, tension adjust on cross fader, etc; make a run at taking down the Pioneer Rev 7. The Rane 4 had some sound issues that made it sound tinny. I hope they got this figured out on this controller. Great review!!!
Thank you.Questions... When it comes to me getting a controller, I want great sound, great build, great fader, great motorized platters...Would you recommend this Rane or a Pioneer controller of the same qualities and why? Oh I have used the older Pioneers before when I spun with someone else, yet I am coming from being trained on turntables, namely Mt Technics decks and original Rane DJ mixer..yes,I still have tons of records..
There's some great things i like about this controller... now to decide if the differences warrant the additional cost over the Four... I'm hoping to see a bumch of emd users report back , and hoping this is rock solid , as im hesitant to get a Four after seeing a lot of people with issues early on with the Four. Motorized jogs are a big difference, and i use stop time knob on my current deck often. The screens look amazing on the jogs, and I like how they implimented the magnetic mechanism. The faders being updated i hope is a big improvement in long term use, as a piece of gear meant for professional use it neeeds to be solid and for this cost it shluld last a good long time. I'd love for it to have been a few hundred cheaper, but you're right, it could be a bit more and wouldnt be overpriced for some people. The booth options in thenmenu, allowing mic to go to the booth is nice... that is what i think makes it also "zone" , so output can be adjusted independently for a second area or room, or...maybe used as a stage monitor if working with a singer, etc... My current board is in a flight case, wirh a DBX unit, wireless mic unit, etc... its heavy... im hoping to find a lighter case when/if i do end up with this unit... Good to hear you're happy with the mic inputs, i use the mic inputs on my current Denon unit a LOT and haven't felt the need for an external mixer for most occasions. For 2k$ it should have great mic implimentation. Excited to have access to the library of internal effects and the channel effects... Thanks for the great video, a hamdful of things have me really wanting this unit over the Four....now to start stuffing cash into a mason jar for a few months...
Great video. One small thing I noticed (not related to the device but the video), the front on camera seemed to be constantly refocusing (especially for the background, orr is it just me?). Also, do you know if there is any way to get the master output in the headphones as cue? Does the split cue incorporate that or no?
Hey CT, great video as always. Maybe try setting your camera on manual focus next time, it was in and out the whole video. Talking about the performer, i'm just really sad that i bought a four some months ago :(
I adopted the Rane 4 at release and returned it due to an issue with the left deck. I waited five weeks for a replacement just to return it for a similar issue. Because of this, I've been renting a Pioneer S11 for the past seven months and I don't think I can ever do pads under the jogs anymore.I also moved away from battle mode and now reverted back to a regular setup (Phase) and I've found my groove again. 4ch is intriguing though...
Sup...ns7iii user....been debating on a performer...I mix video....question...when mixing 4 tracks and switching between decks deck 1and 3 for example...on ns7iii the video audio would drop out and the other deck is master. With RP...would thus be the same or will audio video play depending on which up fader is engaged?
Did Rane ever fix their issue with the static/pop in the VDJ timecode. I don't know if they had this issue in the Rane one or four, but it is definitely an issue with the Rane Twelve MK2's
i wish they would move the pitch into battle mode still not getting it right but i like the few upgrades that they have to offer its just some little things like the headphones can go in the middle that would be awesome just little things would be cool

Innovations are not a substitute for skill sets and I’ve seen people at the DJ Expos past who displayed mad skills not matter what they were using and they proved it booth to booth as they tried out new or refreshed gear. The moral of this being that when you are researching gear, before you buy, ask yourself if you need it or want it. The cost of gear is not likely to go down unless it’s used/refurbished/open box/coupon or whatever. If you are a gear-head and just have to have the latest and greatest tech then that’s fine. If you are a bedroom DJ hoping that the new gear will improve your performance, while unlikely, that’s also fine. If you are a professional DJ and looking at upgrading with an understanding of the cost/benefit ratio in mind, that is fine as well. Either scenario plays out for the individuals as it will but again is it a NEED or a WANT? In my case it was both. I started out on turntables and a mixer and evolved over the past several decades since but now have come full circle as the meshing of to digital music and turntables is having a renaissance so to speak. I had a DDJ 1000 then upgraded to a DDJ FLX10 and a Denon GO as a backup and then picked up a pair of PLXCRSS12s and a DJMS11 mixer. Recently I’ve sold off my DDJ FLX10 and Denon GO to acquire the RANE Performer. The need is for a reliable replacement for the gear that I sold and to have a controller that simulates my PLXCRSS12s and DJMS11 but with a smaller footprint in theory. The want is that there are other options but as I also like working with STEMS and have been able to do so on the previous gear using (Rekordbox, Serato PRO, and Virtual DJ) and opted for RANE’s solution and was willing to pay the toll to achieve that need and want. I’ve been working with the RANE Performer for only a few weeks but feel that when I jump from my turntables and back that it feels more natural and I can focus more on my mix and not the gear nuances.
To be able to view your library on the jog wheel is amazing . Would have been nice to have a USB input . That would have made it almost a stand alone controller as well. #LoveIt
I take my ns72 to all my gigs its not really heavy to me and from time to time i use rane 12s mk2 at gigs as well im guess im use to carrying heavy gear since 1200's
@@ClevelandTerry yes, you're right, or at least some of the world 😅 I found your video about that subject very interesting and would still tend to prefer class compliant devices when possible...
@@_JONGFIRE thanks! many indeed are... among them my favorite is FLX 10 at the moment, which is class compliant on Mac. I'm just a bit disappointed that such a wonderful controller like the Performer has this "flaw".
I commented Mojaxx already. There are people commenting, that its not connecting to Serato? You guys had them for months. On what version? Also: Big Up for asking for more options! I would bring one TT and one Mixer like the Mixars Duo MKII for having a back up if Serato connection fails. Failing in front of your audience is a No Go... ;-)
The Serato version would not be released until today I think it’s 3.4 version and good luck with this unit if you had any sense you would have waited 6 months before buying this because the Rane 4 was plagued with issues I’m one of them that owns a Four
Disgruntled Rane One user here - I've had the Rane One since launch and used it as my main controller for almost 3 years now and all we've been asking Inmusic for is a 2-channel MK2 edition with adjustable upfaders, LED screens, and onboard stems controls. (Along with some other shit but thats another issue). I also would have suggested to Inmusic to stop copying the Pioneer FLX series and switch to the REV layout if you want to attract the Turntablists give them a battle styled layout. Turntablists don't want the 4-channel club layout that you see on the Pioneer FLX series... at least copy the REV layout if you're gonna copy Pioneer. It's meant for turntablists. Overall, it looks like a good controller but I already have a Pioneer FLX-10 and it's not repalcing it. What we wanted was a Rane One Mk2 edition not a 4-channel club controller. Just my opinion after years of owning a rane One, don't mean i'm right or wrong... just my first thoughts after watchin the demos by craze, perly, bastid and kswizz.
The Rane 4 if you don’t know was plagued with ground issues and other issues that said why would anyone want to buy this, I repaired my issue with mine I had to open it up. Would I buy this No.
This board fixes all of those issues. I have not experienced any of the issues I had with the Rane four in the 4 months I’ve used it. But I also understand.
I want all of this in a standalone with 12" platters, the ability to put efx on stems and all the bells and whistles of the Prime 4+. Yes, all of them lol... Until then I'm sticking with the Prime 4+. I know no one reading this cares. But a man can dream.
@@atypical_blk_guy I think it would be around 1lb per inch of platter. So it would come out to 10lbs heavier than this. But that is my logic. I wouldn't consider it actual proven theory. 😂 a man can dream.
Great review. As a DJ who rarely scratches but working on it. I think I'll stick to my rane four since most of the new software features were added to the four in firmware update. Rane did a great job on this controller and the pricing is aggressive. Do you think we will see a price drop on the rev7?
This controller blew me away but we found a couple of problems that can be fixed I'm a future developer I would like to contact rane for further development do you have contacts for r n d department
Problem with selling the Rane Performer is the Rane 4. Kind of shot themselves in the foot on that one I think. I bought the Rane One, love it, play with it for scratching and like the compactish size for what it has, so to me its a good gig controller. Then I got the Rane Four after it came out, I resisted for a while because the One is still awesome. But I caved and also got the Rane Four as it, also, is flipping awesome. And I like the lightness of it, I like that its just a board that isn't motorized. And tho I do like the motorized platters a lot, I can scratch on jogs or platters, and the Rane Four jogs are really awesome. I have zero regrets buying it. And even though I look at the Rane Performer and its like man thats awesome. But I honestly have no desire to lay down another chunk for it with what I have, and I don't feel like selling either of the rigs I have to justify buying it. I don't know how many other obsessed deck enthusiasts bought the One and the Four, but I'm guessing if a person owns either, they probably won't be rushing too hard to get the Performer. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe everyone will trade in their Four and their One, or buy the Performer and keep the one, or buy the Performer but use the Four as the lighter traveller. I dunno I guess there is all sorts of potential buyer base out there of Rane fans, but still. How many 1300 to 2000 dollar controllers can we keep buying LOL. Dammit Rane, stop being so awesome, or pace it out better or something ha.
Great review, Cleveland. I had the Rane Four and sold it about a year ago. Coming from turntables it just didn't feel right and something told me back then, the Four will be the foundation for their motorized platter version and to sit back and wait for it...when I saw the ad during the Super Bowl, I was ready, as I am now to pick this up. I am not too concerned about the weight, just ~ 4 lbs. Heavier than 1 of my Technics 1200s in a flight case so, for me, I'm actually dropping 28+ pounds 😂. Thank you for the review, we'll done.
They missed the mark for me. Not class compliant! Meaning it cannot be used with an iPad running iOS. For those that haven’t run Algoriddim DJay on an iPad with a Rane one, you are missing out. It is extremely intuitive. I would have upgraded from my Rane one setup (mainly for the screens) if it was class compliant.
Fantastic controller but the only issue I have with this machine is the 28 pounds weight. I prefer to protect my controllers in road case equipped with laptop slider. And normally these cases weigh 40 or more pounds ( depending on the size of the controller of course ). 28+40=68. Almost 70 pounds of total weight.
I love your videos! I'm a 60 year old rookie DJ and I'm learning so much from you!
That's a good idea, asking designers to add a light on the filter/color knob to show which one is active.
This! Man, as a visually challenged individual i really need more light coming thru on the board when im in dark settings
I’m pretty sure NS7Iii had that. I still have mine in storage. Maybe I should fire it up to check lol

Great Review Cleveland, and $1999.00 is a doable price and reachable. Thanks for sharing.
its a very nice piece but I love my rev 7 very nice demo and video of the performer though Cleveland Terry thanks
One question. How do you strip search to skim through your track?? No strip search like on Rane One?
I actually didn’t test that but my thought is holding shift and rotating the jog. That’s how others have worked.
Great vid, CT!!
bro, you are my 73rd fav DJ!
Just sold my beloved DD1000 and got the performer
If it’s as good as the pioneer I’ll be happy
Is it better?
@@FLYT3-DJ Yes, it’s the new standard in my opinion.
However I prefer the Magvel fader over the Mag4
Rane coming in the clutch! If I didn't have the Rev7 I would be all over this thing... IMMEDIATELY!!! Thorough review, CT!
That’s exactly it. You’re used to it.
Is thus controller capable of being standalone? Meane not have to use a lap top?
No
Hi! This unit is not class compliant. How do you feel about it?
It's just the way the world works now...unfortunately
@@ClevelandTerry yes, you're right, or at least some of the world 😅 I found your video about that subject very interesting and would still tend to prefer class compliant devices when possible...
Me too
Ns7iii IS Class Compliant
@@_JONGFIRE thanks! many indeed are... among them my favorite is FLX 10 at the moment, which is class compliant on Mac. I'm just a bit disappointed that such a wonderful controller like the Performer has this "flaw".
By any chance would this fit in a ddj 1000srt case?????
No way. 😀
@@ClevelandTerrythanks for the response….by the way good job reviewing this unit.
Appreciate it
@@ClevelandTerry😂😂😂
Google the specifications for ddj 1000 and Rane performer. Compare the WxHxD and you will find answer to your question. Simple.
Beautiful!! Seem like they took the NUMARK NS7III and Combined it with the NUMARK NS6II and Added STEAMS and more etc……. Just plain Genius!!!! 😮👀😮👀😮
It wasn’t connecting because people got their performers early. Serato hadn’t released the version yet. We’ve been on betas the whole time.
I agree
I had the ns7 III how does it compare to?
The Rane 4 if you don’t know was plagued with ground issues and other issues that said why would anyone want to buy this, I repaired my issue with mine I had to open it up. Would I buy this No.
This board fixes all of those issues. I have not experienced any of the issues I had with the Rane four in the 4 months I’ve used it. But I also understand.
I wonder why they went with USB B instead of USB C 🤔
In music seems fixed on usb b. Maybe one day.
What bout the idjay pro
Ask algorithm? 🤷🏾♂️ their forums would love to hear it
As a techno fan never knew Andrea would actually pull of a good mix but here I am. Good shit!
Are the screen's on the platters oled?
Can This One Also Play 7 Inch Vinyl? Like The Rane One?
No
I want all of this in a standalone with 12" platters, the ability to put efx on stems and all the bells and whistles of the Prime 4+. Yes, all of them lol...
Until then I'm sticking with the Prime 4+. I know no one reading this cares. But a man can dream.
lol holy weight batman. Adding 2 twelves would make your dream machine probably close to 75lbs.
@@atypical_blk_guy I think it would be around 1lb per inch of platter. So it would come out to 10lbs heavier than this. But that is my logic. I wouldn't consider it actual proven theory. 😂 a man can dream.
Я тоже этого хочу
Great review. As a DJ who rarely scratches but working on it. I think I'll stick to my rane four since most of the new software features were added to the four in firmware update. Rane did a great job on this controller and the pricing is aggressive. Do you think we will see a price drop on the rev7?
This controller blew me away but we found a couple of problems that can be fixed I'm a future developer I would like to contact rane for further development do you have contacts for r n d department
love it upgraded from Rane Four
I'm definitely getting the Rane Performer.
dang it. i just got the rane one and the hercules T7. now i gotta save up for this! was planning on the Rev7 but nope i want the Rane Performer!
It would be nice if you were allowed to scratch while jog motor is off.
Agreed.
I'm upgrading from the NS6😮 Always a 4 channel guy👍🏾
You need dvs expansion for turntables ?l
Did you talked about hardware efxs?
Strange question for someone watching the video. 😂
For or from ?
Great review, Cleveland. I had the Rane Four and sold it about a year ago. Coming from turntables it just didn't feel right and something told me back then, the Four will be the foundation for their motorized platter version and to sit back and wait for it...when I saw the ad during the Super Bowl, I was ready, as I am now to pick this up. I am not too concerned about the weight, just ~ 4 lbs. Heavier than 1 of my Technics 1200s in a flight case so, for me, I'm actually dropping 28+ pounds 😂.
Thank you for the review, we'll done.
i guess i need to put my rane four up for sale and put my order in lol. Great review
But will it work with TRAKTOR ... ???
You’ll have to ask them.
Here we go
Man. I literally just bought the rane 4 maybe I should send it back and get this. I don't like it not having motorized wheels. Damn
11:45 Cleveland you sold me
Great review. It's very obvious you know what you're talking about ✌🏿
I appreciate that. Check my versus video that goes up Friday at 7am.
I need the comparison to the rev 7 so torn rn
Check back tomorrow. 🤫
I get it.
What is your favorite controller?
Good question...I've been a rev 7 guy since it came out. Now she has a sister...or mistress. Can't decide. :-)
as u know I BEeN WAITING FOR THIS FOR A VERY LONG TIME : FINALY MY TIME TO BUY.
25:02 skills!
I want the ten inch platter for real. If they came out with the 10 inch platter , they could do away with the rane 12.
12inchskins will provide soon
Love my four, no need for moving platters. However, for those who want it, this is awesome
