Fender extended warranties are NOT a scam, at least not in my case. I bought a CS Strat in 1990 with some kind of extended warranty that Fender then offered. It had neck/trussrod issues from new that I (stupidly) had luthiers deal with for several decades. After 30 years, the neck was no longer repairable and had to be replaced. Fender Custom Shop replaced it free of charge after 30 YEARS! Now, I had my original purchase receipt and Fender still had record of my warranty. Still, after 30 years, you'd expect some push-back. I didn't even remember buying the warranty - Fender told me that I had done so! They were awesome.
@billybabalubalaba3954 They replaced it with a Custom Shop neck with the a limited edition number matching the original, and they relic'd it to match the body. They went above and beyond. The old neck was NOT repairable.
Extended warranties are a racket unless it is for a major appliance! Fender should have kept the five year warranty and showed they were a leader. To me it is a money grab!
agree. was so disappointed to see this last month, but then the one I got last year I knew I couldn't return if there was something wrong with it anyway because they discontinued the model and likely would have just sent the wrong thing in exchange rather than me likely having to pay to fix elsewhere later.
Several years ago I bought a Princeton special edition that had a greenback. Really cool amp...until a cheap cap let go and fried the board...at only 4 months old. I ended up getting the run around with Fender, and had a 70 year old retired Air Force radar tech, who built tube amps, gut the chassis with a turret board build. The best thing I ever did. The moral of the story...I will NEVER buy another fender amp.
Had a kid try to strong arm me at Best Buy once for a warranty on a TV. I told him he had two choices, sell me the TV without the warranty or keep the TV.
My positive story about a warranty. Bought a 70-inch TV at W-mart. 1 of the HDMI ports went out at 2-years, 6 months later a second. In 6 months their obligations ceased and the next guy's kicks in so I call W-mart and ask a "What if" question, The next thing I know there's a check in the mail for the cost of the TV less the tax and warranty. About $30. I got rid of the TV about 10 years later when the picture turned blue.
Great video! I remember when you bought insurance in the past they would talk about having peace of mind knowing that you were covered. Those days are long gone, and they are laughing all the way to the bank.
I always look forward to the next episode. Man, Jonathan have a great gig. Sounds like fun. Future episode idea Baxter and Jonathan throw riffs back-and-forth with guitars from the shop.?
When I worked for GC I absolutely hated pushing pro coverage.. I would rather sell other gear to help enhance their purchase. The only time I would heavily recommend it is when I sold cymbals and that’s just cause it’s something you beat with a stick.
G'day Baxter & Jonathon, I've only ever had warranty claims on guitars twice, since the 70's. The second claim never worked out, but the first did - and it was for a broken guitar string. I will admit that when I've complained about the second claim in guitar shops, some have offered to fix it for me, which confirms my thoughts about good and bad dealers. But, my warranty claims is not the reason I'm writing today.... Jonathon, you know that the slogan on your T-shirt is supposed to be written in Proper case, not all Upper case, right??? 😉 Thanks for another great video. Thanks, again, for an interesting topic discussion. I'm sure that where you live you have plenty of consumer affairs departments and they probably look at this area like we did here in Oz. These days in Oz, goods are covered for the period that you should reasonable expect them to last (excluding wear and tear). Obviously, that period is hard to determine and situations are looked at on a case by case basis. One good example is flat screen TVs - there's an expectation that they should last about 5 years - not unreasonable at all. These days people will push for this if there's an issue and they'll likely get supported by consumer affairs. Of course, wear and tear on a n amp of a guitar...long discussion! Thanks again.
Just a comment about this new "DTC or Direct to Customer" selling by guitar companies and that is that if companies do this without adjusting the price down, it is a very evil and greasy thing to do! Just keep your regular dealers and stick to building the guitars! ok my beef is spoken! thank you..I feel better PS I am looking forward to your PanoVerb video...I really love those amps
I had a Fender Mustang I bought through GC and I got the pro coverage at the salesman’s suggestion. 5 year protection. It died at 4 years and 10 months. Got a full refund.
I've only ever had two problems with equipment, one was a Mesa Boogie amp, and the other was an MXR pedal, and they fixed them for me no questions! Maybe I was lucky, but both Mesa Boogie, and MXR sorted them, and very quickly. Maybe things are different here in Britain?
What breaks on a guitar that needs warranty protection? But, Fender amps definitely need a five year warranty. My new pro junior’s input jack just went and it hasn’t even been to a gig yet. Last about two years of really lite use.
A Smaller Shop like Casino is more likely to care more about What you Buy & Play and Give you a better trade in allowance when upgrading. Fender will keep reaching for more and more money and Mom & Pop Shops will keep focusing on the Service with a Smile
I always try to buy used because if this. That way for a start the really small things like cosmetic blemishes are not an issue. I also go into the sale having put $200 aside to cover any problems. I have done this with 10 guitars and it has only cost me a few setups and maybe a few tweaks.
Companies LOVE to sell extended warranties because they rarely have to, "pay out." Consequently, the profit margins are enormous. It's even better than selling gift cards, which often get lost or fogotten before being redeemed.
My son is a Business Analyst for a big company that does that. They are in to everything. I did buy an extended warranty for something and I had to use it. They were easy to get to, polite and got me going to send it in easily. Maybe it was a fluke? I usually don’t buy extended warranties but this was for some expensive power tools that had been returned and then sold at a discount. Came in handy.
Our house was heavily damaged a few years back in a freak storm. There were elements of our insurance "coverage" that the insurance company tried to weasel out of but my wife and I were like pit bulls. We took a few issues right up to the CEO level and it took that and a whole lot of persistence to get satisfaction, and we did. But a lot of people would have given up. We were just pissed off enough that giving up was not an option. We were devious in getting email addresses and phone numbers but we had to be. It fortunately worked out for us for the most part, there were still a couple of issues that went unresolved to our satisfaction but we won on some bigger ones. Be persistent, know your rights, know your facts.
I can answer your extended service contract questions because I’ve been in that industry for 20+ years. The standard process is the plans start on the date of purchase and do not replace the OEM warranty, so a consumer goes to the OEM during their warranty. Typically ESC will cover additional things during the OEM warranty to justify the coverage. In my world we deal with consumer electronics and home appliances, so we cover power surge and sometimes accidental damage but check your terms and conditions for specifics. If you file a claim typically anything less than a set value, for example $300, is just replaced with an electronic gift card. The main thought I have as a customer before buying an extended service contract is this, the company is just managing risk so do you feel like the product is good enough quality that you can accept the risk of it failing? Because most service contracts are never claimed. My personal opinion is to buy quality and avoid the service contract unless it covers accidental damage and it’s a relatively cheap product that is likely cheaper to replace than repair. If it’s an expensive item that you can’t afford for it to fail then it might not be worth getting in the first place
I don't bother with Pro Coverage because I have always done my own setups and also I have built three Guitar amps and also serviced others I have purchased in the past!
Just thought of this, but I wonder how much revenue GC’s Pro Coverage has taken away from luthiers. It’s good to get on cheap (or expensive) electronic gear, even amps sometimes, but a guitar is fixable in most cases, and I know pro coverage does repairs too but it takes away your choice in who actually does the fixing.
I don’t buy guitars, I adopt them. If there’s something wrong with one I bought, I fix it or have it fixed. Occasionally, I might come to realize an instrument just isn’t my guitar anymore & I no longer have a personal attachment to it. When that happens I try my best to find it a new forever home. I’ve been know to give a guitar away to a deserving player that needs a better instrument.
The only thing worse than having to sell GC's "Pro Coverage" was having to push their garbage, insanely high-interest credit disguised as "zero % interest". I made a point to clearly explain to people why it's not really "zero %" in hopes I could talk them out of it.
I’ve never needed an extended warranty. The thing either breaks quickly and is covered by the manufacturer warranty or never breaks. I’ve got a lot of gear that’s around 20 to 25 years old that gets regular use and the only things I have that have broken are stuff I bought used. I did buy the extended warranty a handful of times, for things that were going to be used a lot, and the warranty was cheap, and I’ve never had to cash in Save your money but take care of your gear Oh, my house came with a one year warranty, with the option to renew. The one time I would have needed it the problem wasn’t covered
When I get asked if want an extended warranty, I enjoy handing the product back to the salesperson and saying, “Oh, no. Do think it’s going to break? Maybe I better…” It’s fun watching them backpedal.
I worked in the car business for years and extended warranties are a great money maker for the people selling them but not for the consumer. In my day, the dealer would pay about $200 for a warranty that they sold for about $1500.................and if it isn't expressly spelled out that something is covered, it ain't covered. Avoid them like the plague. Edit: And if it works the same way as the car biz, the extended warranty can't kick in until after the factory warranty runs out.............so they are holding your money for free for the life of the factory warranty. It's a racket worthy of carnival barkers.
Save your money! When you get close to the 2 year mark take you tube amp to a reputable amp guy and have him go through it and have him do the upgrades if it needs them and it will be good for 10+ years. Amps are like cars, do the maintenance and you will avoid expensive repairs.

BUT unlike buying from GC or some other places, at least if I buy direct, I know I am getting the right case or bag or whatever whammy bar, etc. SUPPOSED to come w' the thing.
I guess I'm less enthused about the dealer thing because everything just costs more. And then most the repair guys all give some "I can't guarantee what I do will make it better..." Then why I paying you?????
Warranty for guitars so when this thing breaks before 2years wich is no time at all I guaranty they don't cover anything that would break I've tried and tried they don't have to use them it will cost you way more than it's worth they know this
I would guess anyone committed to guitar knows you can fix most things yourself with a little research- Leo Fender designed the parts to be replaceable. Beyond that first year I don’t really see the point of talking to the manufacturer seeing how quick and cheaply a lot of the most common problems are fixed. When it comes to consumer electronics, the only thing that has broken for me before 5 years was a Sony DVD player, and I think that lasted 18 months. Now a Blu Ray player can cost £40, and the insurance costs more than that.
GC's pro coverage is a HUGE money maker for them. I always pass on it. The employees are scored on it. Fender is just taking it from their playbook. I had an issue with a Fender 57 Champ Amp I got from SW, after a year something died in it. SW paid for shipping to and from and fixed it in a week. When they won't price match something for me, they always try the "Well we offer a 2yr warranty" and then I remind them "Well this manufacturer offers a 5yr so it's pointless".... Bad Move Fender.
Be well fellarinos . I have brought 2 new guitars in 30 years . No idea what warranty's are hahah If it's broke . I am gonna rip it apart and void that warranty hahaha
I got my extended warranty from some nice kid named Iced Tea. I was also able to get an extra 100,000 miles on my Auto. He wouldn't touch my cables though.
"Things are harder to repair and they don't want to deal with it." Maybe don't design amps that aren't repairable then. It's wild that they increased prices so much AND cut the warranty. Why would anyone buy new?
This is a bad move by Fender. Considering Gibson has a lifetime warranty on their guitars, it doesn't cost anything extra, and you can just call them and talk to them. I believe PRS offers something similar.
@@CasinoGuitarswarranty issues should stay in house. Only way Fender can keep repairs and etc under wraps. Quality and Reputation is everything. 2nd or 3 Rd party warranty companies is a no go!!! Love you guys and the channel!!!!!!!!!
Fender certified used was a massive flop... and to follow it up... another absolutely massive flop... Who is running Fender these days and what used car lot did they come from? Send um back and get someone who gives a shit about guitar to run the show over there... you'd think with all those "master" builders they could come up with more creative solutions to increase profit other than get clients to pay more for absolutely nothing... Scumbag behavior seems to be the new norm for Fender as of late.
Soooo.. You call Angie's list in a moment of desperation and then find out they signed you up as a member for $$$$ per year without telling you and then the guy they send to fix you clog wants you to sign up for $120 a year to save 15% in the future. The business side of Fender and others will squeeze every dolla' they can. Still 💗the creative side.
warranties are a joke in most cases because of the hassle to actually file a claim and the time to get a remedy. And extended warranties are a sad joke. Never buy extended warranties as a rule of thumb.
Simple… Fender stop making amps that are destined to become disposable bricks. Truth be told these modern Fender amps will not be around in 60 years such as an original vintage 1964 Deluxe Reverb. They now want you to believe that an amp has a shelf life of about 10 years and beyond that they are not going to service it mainly because the parts will be obsolete and not available. Step up the build quality, stop the pcb board crap and bring back the 5 year warranty.
Extended warranties = Profit Centers. I have been playing Fender guitars for over 40 years and have never had a warranty claim, let alone a problem that couldn't be resolved by a single visit to the shop that the guitar was purchased from. If the guitar (or anything else) fails, it's going to happen in the first 90 days -
Just say NO to extended warranties! But always say YES to Casino Guitars!

I got my extended warranty from some nice kid named Iced Tea. I was also able to get an extra 100,000 miles on my Auto. He wouldn't touch my cables though.
"Things are harder to repair and they don't want to deal with it."
Maybe don't design amps that aren't repairable then.
It's wild that they increased prices so much AND cut the warranty. Why would anyone buy new?
Buying from a reputable business is the best warranty you can get
Extended warranties are just add on insurance policies. Scam but 100% profit for the ins company.
I would buy an extended warranty for a new amp but never for a guitar.
This is a bad move by Fender. Considering Gibson has a lifetime warranty on their guitars, it doesn't cost anything extra, and you can just call them and talk to them. I believe PRS offers something similar.
This is going to be bad for Fender!!!!!!!! Bad, bad decision!!!!!!!
The jury is out but we shall see...thanks for sharing!
Scumbag behavior seems to be the new norm for Fender as of late.
not worth the hassle
You may be right on that one, time will tell:) and thank you for sharing!
It's a guitar. 😅
Extended warranties is a big Scam...
Extended Coverage Plans should be Illegal.
Never buy the extended warranty.
