When I see videos of his concerts, I always thought, how does he have so much energy and how is he so crazy...always thought he was on something but I guess he just has that natural high in life. I know this is an old comment, but I actually find it easier not drinking and doing drugs to have more energy. I feel more alive when sober. Perhaps he does too. Being high and drunk, eventuually you hit a wall and start to feel numb to everything. It's only fun for a little while.
No when ur on drugs ur energy is temporary u only have energy while on drugs without them u are sick and can’t even get out of bed everything sucks u spend every second looking for drugs how to get some it’s no way to live a life a natural high is way better without any side effects or downfalls !!! I don’t need a pill to get out of bed or to function if you’ve never done drugs don’t start u think u can stop anytime ur wrong ur body becomes used to them si when u don’t have them u go into withdrawals which you’d rather be dead then to deal with !!!!!!!

It was never something I was interested in. Never understood why my friends thought it was something they needed to do to fit in or socialize with others ...Im 26yrs old today and proud to say that I have never tried anything. Some rock/punk songs have good lyrics, amazing lyrics. And alot of the time this comes from being messed up and you hear all the time about how and artist says "and I was so drunk when i wrote this...blah blah blah" I think it is amazing, that davey havok can write this music and use such great metaphors without the influence of drugs. The fact that he is so creative in what he writes and sings, and none of it comes from the influence of something else that inhibits his mind. Its amazing to me.

I was severely depressed, unfortunately, but thankfully because of these guys and a straight-edge friend, never picked up drugs or alcohol. Sadly, halfway through my freshman year, I started using and quickly developed a drug and drinking problem. I lost track of those values. I went to rehab and have been clean for over 2 and a half years now. Quit smoking (for the last time!) on New Year's day. --SxE--

I agree with what you're saying, I'd just also like to point out that those of us (myself included) who categorize ourselves as straight edge are not going to be drinking at 21. Straight edge is not a label, it is a commitment to live a life wholly devoid of substance abuse. Yes, there are those who arbitrarily "commit" to the lifestyle and then change, but the majority of us are true till death - "if you aren't now, you never were".
Drugs were detrimental to me but that was due to my own personality flaws, but I know some people who have done drugs their whole life and some of them make five and six figure salaries, it just depends on the person's motivations for doing drugs. I was trying to escape reality, where my buddy he was just enhancing reality. But I think it's cool that Davey is straight edge. Now I would have to recommend a person try living their life drug free, but if you can function and get everything done you need to get done in life then I can't really argue with you using. B vitamins come from plant sources as well. I am vegan and consume plant derived B-vitamins. B-vitamins are in a multitude of things. Avocados, pasta, beans, mushrooms, broccoli, nutritional yeast, fortified soy products, etc. So no, B vitamins are not only in animal products. And I have been vegan for "a number of years" (almost 8 years to be exact) and I have had frequent doctor visits and they are impressed with how healthy I am and how healthy my diet is. Supplement free.
Much respect for clean lifestyles. It takes a lot of devotion not to fall victim of temptations, especially in a society that embraces over-consumption. I have listened to the words of Davey and AFI for almost 13 years now and I have taken in quite a bit. I quit drugs and alch' at 19. I can't claim I'm straight edge but I don't believe in over indulgence and I definitely don't think a human being should ever try coke or heroin. I never have but I've witnessed it's destruction many times.
I personally have never claimed edge, however, I completely condone his decision. If he can be strong and avoid drug use, abuse and drinking, in such an ugly world...more power to him! I love this guy.

I'm always drawn to his word because I share some of his beliefs (I'm straight edge too, but I'm not vegan). There are certainly other good advocates of straight edge, but for this generation Davey is the best. I also take being straight edge VERY seriously and don't take certain alternative lifestyles lightly. I'm also a great advocate in the name of straight edge.

It's not hard to refrain from drugs and alcohol. I've lived my whole life believing that you just don't need that stuff. I've done wine/alcohol tasting classes and literally only tasted (I was the only sober one in a class of 30) and yet had no urge to drink. I've had friends who are big time into drugs and they make it seem like it was hard to deny them and thus why they do them. I'm fine if people are going to do them, just, don't put others down or try to force it upon them. It sucks being made fun of and told you're an idiot or boring simply because you don't do them. I have a crap ton of fun with all my hobbies and my life and those i love and I have a good imagination (draw comics, make videos, make games, and write stories) and I'm able to do this without drugs or alcohol.

He seems to be more concerned for the drug culture within the punk and hardcore movements, this I am taking from tone of voice and personality of how thoughts are communicated. Personally I find his attitude positive, focused and grateful for the decisions he's made and it shows how dreams do come true if one follows their heart honestly.
