IDGuy big I guess you never tried on both. Rolex deterrent, the rubber strap can not be cut, minimum adjustment, was loose and moved around on my 6.75” wrist. Second major one if your daily wear and you travel with it, nothing to shield from magnets. The reason I use an newer omega seamaster over my 2005 Anniversary Submariner, too many trips to the AD to demagnetize it or it runs very fast. In person the hand finish work on the aquanaut is not even comparable to the machine finish on the Rolex. Rolex Daytona’s are very nice but I’d take a baby Patek any day over a Rolex.
I love the fact that you approach horology from a design perspective. After all that is what ultimately draws us watching nerds to a particular watch. Let's be brutally honest it isn't the +/- 5 second accuracy or the brush finish on the beveling. It is the design and the execution. Please keep it coming.
Great video as always. I've always believed high-end watchmakers should use matching date wheels to clean-up dials. Your Aquanaut redesign was gorgeous.
Ive gotta be honest to my eye I prefer Rolexes version to your version. However it was a very interesting way of showing how you would like it. Great video!
Great content as ever. Aquanaut owner here - just wanted to note that the case, clasp, rubber combo - when sized correctly, does act similarly to the Rolex strap in kind of clasping on the wrist but also with airflow. Hard to describe - but it’s super comfortable but also secure. I have a 5165 38mm reference - and it has a simpler implementation of the date, with no part index at 3. To me that has slightly better symmetry than on the 5167.
Someone in my family has a rather substantial watch collection, he has both a daytona (on a oysterflex) and an aquanaut, he has always been kind enough to let me borrow his watches and I have to say out of all of his watches his aquanaut 5167A-010 is by far my favourite, it is sleek, and simple yet detailed, truly an every day watch. He doesn't use it much nowadays as he likes more substantial watches, which is good as we both now consider it 'my' watch.
5167-1a is my daily driver and it’s just perfect to me Beautiful case design yet super thin, clear back, water resist, amazing dial, perfect calibre, accurate time keeping and the beautiful bracelet Yes, beautiful bracelet which tons of ppl complains about it’s plain I’m wonder how many of them did try it in flesh It looked normal but special in detail fine features Also the polishing is just unique and excellent I don’t know how they did it But the brush and polish part of the bracelet are warm and shining Super enjoy it :)
Great video, as always. Never much liked the Daytona/Cosmograph (the watch that tried and failed to another watch that wasn’t even meant to try for space), but your take on why it is a good watch certainly helps. No other video I’ve seen has done that. Good job!
Another brilliant review & redesign VLOG. I agree with you, having both models in my collection. The one key difference for me is the Rolex band is one of the best I have ever worn in rubber for a sports models watch, I love it. But I am very keen to purchase the "GRENADE" version of the Aquanaut at some stage also I love the colour.
I have always preferred the Aquanaut over the Nautilus. It is great. Your redesign of the Daytona would have me saving my pennies to buy it, definitely! How well you have addressed the design ‘flaws’ my phriend. As for rubber straps, they are great for the summer and wet conditions. Companies like Panerai have been supplying them with their watches for ages. Yet again another great video. Keep them coming my phriend. ✊
Have one of the coveted Daytonas. Black dial, it is lovely, comfortable, really amazing, but I am in my 40's and it is often hard to tell the time, usually can't at a glance. The basic stipend from a watch. It is annoying, I don't want to sell it (and make 10k), but a bit frustrated. Everything about it is perfect except it's readability.
Hublot and UN can be thanked for the rubber strap trend; they’ve been doing that long before the Aquanaut or RM. UN can further take credit for the popularity of blue dials.
This is the only Rolex I would buy!! My Vacheron has hit the nail on the head, it came with 3 dress codes..steel for the office, leather for the evening and rubber for playtime ; ).....and these are designed for the watch and the quick release system works perfectly. Above all the actual watch seems to change with each persona!
@@sergeyzerkin8029 definitely not...steel is for the office, no nonsense get on with it approach. Leather strap is for evening and dinner, a touch of class!
Love the Daytona, really dislike the tile ceiling dial of the Patek. So you could put a 25 year old rat chewed nato on the Daytona and it would still be stunning as for the Patek well. I don't think a solid gold bracelet could help. Cheers
Great video, again… I really love my Breguet Marine Big Date on rubber strap that has been my daily watch for 10 years. I like how Breguet integrated the traditional Breguet elements with the rubber band in a sportish watch. In that price segment I think that I would chose the 2019 Basel WG YM, but not seen one in the flesh yet.
@IDGuy you touched a point on the the date window placement on the Aquanaut. Would love to watch a video on your opinion on the date window complication design. So many complain about the Submariner date. I'd say Rolex and many others fail on the design of it insisting on the white background for the date wheel. Visually, the approach Omega adopted on the SMP Diver 300M or AP on the Royal Oak, to name a few, where the color of the date wheel matches the color of the dial feels more 'integrated', if that makes sense
first luxury watches with rubber straps: Hublot!! long before the 'Big Bang' Collection. Hublot was known for their rubber straps, that was the dna of the brand. why you didn't mentioned them??
Another amazing and informative video, Thank you. I for one can not wear rubber strap watches, I had the opportunity to the buy the Patek Aquanaut with blue rubber strap and blue dial (42mm) and it was coming from main AD so I was paying retail but I just couldn't get use the rubber strap and the way it sat on my wrist. I currently have a AP diver with rubber strap, big mistake. I just cant get use to wearing it, usually I can put up with it for about half a day and then it has to come off.
The 116519ln is my obtainable grail and to add, I have a deposit down at my AD! (quoted minimum 2 year wait time). I think it is more gorgeous dial than the current white-Panda dial (I prefer the solid black sub-dials). While I'd prefer the SS for price point and robustness, there is the all the other factors that has me swayed to the 519ln.
I have watched several of your videos. You review some very nice time pieces. It is most unfortunate that you actually don't have first experience with the watches.
I Think that Hublot was the first company to have rubber as the standard strap on a new watch. This was in the 80s or something like that. On the classic fusion watch.
Exelent as always, the PP is beautifull in it’s simplicity, my favorite. Would love to hear your thoughts about The new Rolex Yactmaster 42 with rubber strap. Thanx
My problem with the date window on the Aquanaut isn't the placement or the wheel colour, it's that it simply looks like an afterthought. It's barely big enough to show the whole number, it has zero decoration (even a white border would have helped) and it just looks lazy.
I’ll put my Rolex Sub on black Everest strap up against either of these. Have had it for 4 yrs and love it. I’ve contemplated buying both of these but never see the value over what I currently wear everyday. Great vid sir!
Have since bought the WG Daytona and love it. Not as comfortable as my old Sub on Everest but a truly stunning piece. This will be a long term Classic IMO
Strictly speaking ( in my humble opinion), the aquanaut is more versatile and a nicer watch. However I do agree with you, I've never understood the white date wheel on the aquanaut. This version of the daytona, is probably my favorite version and I love the fact that it has no date.
Definitely aquanaut, I’m trading my Anniversary Submariner in for one as soon as my AD can get me the green and white gold one. It’s an amazing watch in person compared to the Rolex. Extremely well hand made verse machine made Rolex. Beautiful movement that can be viewed. Big aquanaut advantage to people who travel is it won’t constantly need to be demagnetized at your AD like Rolex. Biggest deterrent to the oyster flex rubber straps is, they can not be cut or shortened if you have 6.75” wrist it’s loose.
@@Peter-tc3ep If you travel THAT much that it's affecting your watch's accuracy, then get you a $50 demagnetizer and be done with it. But I seriously doubt it's an issue at all.
i like some of your idea, but your revised design for the Daytona just seem very off. Yes, the symmetry is better, but the proportion is iffy. Original is much better on my eye.
Great video. I disagree with reducing the sub-dials, however, I would transfer a fair amount of the short story on dial to the case back plate. I think all that writing on the face cheapens its appearance.
Design wise i like the Aquanaut (i actually like it better than the Nautilus) ,. Engineering wise, the Dytona . In this case bang for buck goes for the Dytona......but there is a cleanliness about the PP that makes the Rolex look messy .........but again ,that's just me.

I guarantee that 99x more people look for the date more than timing how long their kids can hold their breath in the pool... The AP Royal Oak chronograph in steel with rubber straps would make for a perfect trio.
how many apples in a bucket of cheese ... hardly comparing like with like the aqua is really a datejust , that aside id take the PP every day and the aqua is just pure style , simple form and function done perfectly it just shouts ''class '' but quietly.

date window on 6 do not saving composition. not always need symmetry. what need is proportion, for example: I do not like date on 6, but glashutte original can do very nice big date on 6. this is what I am try to tell you. and absolute nonsense when white date destroying black dial. white date compensate missing number, that what white date for. otherwise you have gap. that why I alway prefer opposite color date.

God comment re: rubber and humidity(wet climates), working on swapping out a rubber strap as we speak.
Great video, thanks! But - with all respect - your new design can't come close to the original. Rolex designers do really know how to make a watch.
It’s important what circle of people you belong to, then choose the brand of the two.
This comparison should be made with the rose gold yachtmaster in rubber
