Tough battle between the two. Harder because it's not apples to apples. Ideally I'd have both. I'm a car guy, I have to go with the Daytona, and when compared to a Patek, that says a lot.

And I’ve just noticed how thin and spindly the Daytona’s hands are. Choosing between the two is a hard one though. So I’ll just say, if I could afford one, then I could afford the other too. Daytona is so much nicer, and more durability luxury brand. Nautilius is to fragile. I would pick the Daytona all day. Something u can pass on generations and use it daily. U can’t with Patek! So Rolex all day. For me that’s a better watch

Most durable luxury watches. And for u r info, one Rolex takes 1 year to make and most is handmade! Go and educate your self. U have to have watches from both brands to understand!
I was not either until I tried on, and bought, an Aquanaut. I love the feel and have grown to love the look. I was initially going to order the metal bracelet, but now will just keep the rubber on. I am old, by the way.

It’s also because the world’s biggest luxury watch market is East Asia, where rubber straps hold up far better in the summer than leather. I’m personally not into luxury watches on rubber straps, unless they’re white gold or steel.

Dang that rubber suits the gold. This is a pointless contest. I'm not trolling! They both have equivalent models which would be a great competition the Rolex GMT v PP Travel Time. The Daytona v XYZ PP chronograph. Out of these two the PP every time!
The Patek is more useful as a watch. It's completely legible, vs. the Rolex, with its razor-thin gold hands that blend into the dial. And the chronograph function on the Daytona is basically for show. Nobody's going to stand there jerking the pushers on a dubiously legible 40mm solid gold watch to use it as a stopwatch. On the other hand, the Patek has a seriously deficient sub-40-hour power reserve. And its needle date display is less legible than a typical date window and is frequently obstructed by the watch's hands. For the prices, I'd go for neither.
I have the Travel Time 5164A & the AP Royal Oak 41mm chrono, but not the Daytona 😬 every time I pick up the Daytona, the covered caseback always hold me back from getting it. Btw the 5164 Rose Gold is almost double the Daytona price on secondary market.
David B strange Patek offer magnetic guards with silicon, very practical while Rolex still does not. My Submariner has many visits to the AD to demagnetize it after traveling. Even my omega seamaster has protection for magnets. That’s technology that Rolex drastically needs to add. Most of Rolex’s movements are dated minus the Daytona which was a zenith improved movement they started building in house more recently. Don’t generalize Rolex since different movements are not equal within the brand.
Quite the opposite. Many of us don't want to make a statement when wearing our watches and like the stealthyness of a strap like these on the Rolex or PP.
Derek Holyfield I don't mind the straps, but If I really wanted stealthy, I wouldn't exactly go for a colored gold PP or Rolex. They may be less flashy than full gold bracelets, but I don't think they're stealthy at all.

Can’t even compare, aquanaut, I’m trading my Anniversary Submariner in for one as soon as my AD can get the green white gold in. Patek Philippe is definitely a step up from the Rolex in person, extremely well made. Rolex why still has no magnetic protection, tired of going to my AD to demagnetize it after traveling. Rolex is still Rolex and Patek Philippe is still Patek.

Day to day use makes the winner the Aquanaut, the Daytona tells the time and allows you when at a sporting event to time the event. However, the price of the Rolex and the 5 year guarantee make it the better initial buy. But, if I had the money for either I'd go with the Patek, it just looks better.

Daytona has gone up at least $15k in the pre owned market. It is no longer selling at retail in the secondary.

Patek is just on another level. Also the Aquanaut chocolate dial es the most beautifull I have ever seen.
Both are great, but for now I'm fan of Rolex.

in my country with the hot humid weather, leather is not practical...only metal or rubber...I agree rubber is not dressy as leather or metal.
