I cook on cast iron and a wood cookstove all my life never had the need to buy gas or electric model even as I get older enjoy it most favorite part of the day. When the Good lord rises me for another days of work till supper time and I rest. The woodcook stove has served me and generations of my kin
Nice my grandmother use to do this. Hey another recipe core the apples a little bit of cinnamon and half a stick of butter wrap in tinfoil put on coals till they soft! It's a whole lot of goodness! Add a little bit of spiced rum to it if yeah like about a teaspoon worth each apple!
you can tell that David really enjoys his cooking, he makes me laugh, when he says, bad boys, and when he tucks in to his meal, everytime, just with those ingredients, sounds delicious, i wonder if cream or custard would change the taste. very inspirational, and just the simplicity of camp cooking, and rustic too,
That looks good we do apples on the fire in foil for scouts . Core them use peanut butter to stop up one end , add chocolate chips , and mini marshmallows and cap again with peanut butter, sprinkle auger and cinnamon over it put some butter in the foil roll it up place in the hot coals till soft . Yum yum always a hit
Looks very tasty, Basically an Apple pie with out the crust. My mother used to make this for us back in the 60's. Giving us a sweet dessert without having to heat up the oven to bake anything.
I like to start with apple halves with the core removed with a spoon, so its like a bowl. Second, i melt butter then add sugar and a "maple-brown sugar oatmeal" packet or 2. Lastly I pack the apple bowls full of the "crisp" topping and bake in the Dutch oven. Baked bananas are amazing too.
Reminds me of what ma would make for desert when we had "breakfast for dinner" meals....she take either leftover pancake mix, or leftover egg wash from scrambled eggs dredged in flour/sugar, then fry till crispy in the leftover bacon fat. Dust with cinnamon....sorta similar to apple fritters but while pieces not tiny chunks...
It's almost midnight and I'm watching this thinking I wonder if my wife would notice me cooking this up 🤣 They look beautiful great video Dave thanks 👍😁
That looks Soooo good, I can almost smell it. Serve that over ice cream, pancakes, cornbread, MRE cakes and a bunch of other stuff I can't think of right now.
Hey Dave, try a couple drops of vanilla extract added into the sauce next time, I think you'll like it... My mother used to fry up apples for us kids back in the day just like this and it was an inexpensive treat we all looked forward to enjoying... BTW, your killin' my waistline with all your cookin', but I like that you cook things that I don't normally think about eating... Thanks once again for wetting my appetite!!!
God bless you brother. I live in Hawaii and do this with bananas. I add very finely chopped Habanero or Thai chilies to the butter. Its spicy, sweet and wonderful. I'm off to buy apples now:) Great channel. God bless you. Aloha, J
those are different than i've had the ones i get are cooked down to a mush then you add the sugar and cinnamon if you want cinnamon! great on biscuits!!!
when i'm making apple crisp, i use a jumbo 2.5 gallon bag to mix the oatmeal with cinnamon, brown sugar, sugar and all spice. then i do it again with granny smith and cortland apple. as i call it the shake and bake for baking apple crisp or apple pie, that way the apples and oat meal are coated or mixed before hand.
Basically Bananas Foster minus the fancy brandy splash & whoosh🔥…sub banana for apples. Up here in Washington we have these little pink & red striped apples that would send that to the moon. Dave, pass the French vanilla ice cream please.
The universe is a strange place , my mom just gave me a huge bag of apples from her trees out in british columbia and ive been wondering what im going to do with them.
About time for stove maintenance- maybe you could black that small gray cylindrical stove near your right elbow, and also tell us about it? Looks neat! I've got to stop watching you cook when I'm about to eat something mundane...
I'm always delighted when Dave whistles, groans and gasps. This makes the food taste twice as good!
Love it I'm a 61 year old man remember when grandma did this !
So good and a Midwest staple. I remember my Grandma making these for us when we were kids. Thanks for the memory and as always entertaining video. :)
I don't know what is better. Being provided with a good recipe or watching how much you enjoy food. :) Thanks for sharing!
I make fried apples along with pork chops & stuffing every once in awhile. I love it.

Just thanks. I enjoy when you surprise yourself on the outcome.
That looks good. I have made that before, sometimes in the toaster oven.

Love you Man, keep them coming. Thank You!
Man I love fried apples and baked apples. I like to add a handful of those tiny little heart shaped cinnamon candies as well, really sets it off.
Some instant oatmeal sprinkled over towards the end is good
Nice! Quick and easy.

Just in time for Labor day camping trip.
My mother makes a dish with quince that's pretty good
These also taste good with Graham Crackers crushed over the top or with the apples on the crackers as a serving. Tastes even more like an apple pie.
Thank you 👍.
Thanks Dave

Anything and everything with apples is delicious
That would make some good camp pie filling too! 🤤
Looks good!
That’s how my grandma used to make them (in the kitchen tho)
10:pm and now I.gotta have these fried apples......
Looks delish. My Mother used to do this occasionally to put over pancakes. 😋
Falls about here...good call Dave.
I'm going to have that mix with many different fruits.
Wow 😳 looks awesome. Definitely will be doing this in the fall. Rick, Rochester NY.
I have never tried those I will make some soon.
Looks great Dave.im hungry now. Look your UA-cam videos.
Awesome!
Sometimes I put apple slices on the bbq with brown sugar an cinnamon cool video brother
Could also add a little lemon juice or even better a splash of your favorite bourbon.
That looks so good!
Pecans in that & maple syrup instead of sugar is lush.
Basically Bananas Foster minus the fancy brandy splash & whoosh🔥…sub banana for apples. Up here in Washington we have these little pink & red striped apples that would send that to the moon. Dave, pass the French vanilla ice cream please.
Works well with bananas too.
That’s awesome, would you do a video on how you maintain your cast iron and how you clean them up
Need some biscuits to pile those on !
I think the young David Canterbury would have never had the patience for all this, lol.
all that needs is vanilla ice cream
Awesome recipe. Where are the biscuits?
Now, all that was still needed was a good double shot of Jack Daniels to the butter. (no alcohol when done, just flavor)
Cool to eat like snack after alco.
Now that is some dam good eating !!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓🔪👍👍
I got some apples on my tree. I'm doing it!
Looks tasty Dave!
Hey brother, Just need some cat head biscuits & you’d really have it made !!!
Was that a Stargazer Cast Iron skillet? I have one of them made right here in NJ.
Looks great but a can of custard would make it perfection
Dave, can you and your team create a class where we just sit around eating your camp cooking for three days?
We already have one called Camp Cooking it’s listed on our website next one is in October
Vanilla ice cream
Oh yum! ❤️
Dave did you make that spatula?... If not where'd you get it dude?... I'd love to find one like that...
Money Shot... True Dat!
What is the spatula you used? I see it in a lot of your cooking vidd
It’s in my Amazon store buddy
My grandmother was big into baked apples. EVERY THING she fried was in bacon grease, so baked might have been a good call...
Is there going to be a cookbook made from all of these recipes?
They are all posted to my Patreon with lots of other content, but perhaps in time yes
Can you do these and make it a hand pie? Semper Fi
Were do you get you sodas? by the way love your vids😆😁😄
The universe is a strange place , my mom just gave me a huge bag of apples from her trees out in british columbia and ive been wondering what im going to do with them.
