- It's time for another review and today I'll be tackling Shrek: Treasure Hunt on the PS1. It may only take an hour to finish, but that's an hour of my life I'm never getting back. Also Thanos Shrek on the thumbnail doesn't have much to do with the video, but it took me ten minutes to make and you're going to admire my Photoshop skills, darn it!

ABOUT THE GAME
Shrek: Treasure Hunt is a party video game for the PlayStation. It was developed by The Code Monkeys, and published by TDK Mediactive under their TDK Impulse label. The game was released on October 18, 2002 in North America. This was the only Shrek game released for the PlayStation, with a Nintendo 64 version being cancelled. Digital Illusions were going to develop the game, but switched focus to Shrek Extra Large.
The game focuses on Shrek searching for food and drinks and other items intended for a picnic before Princess Fiona arrives.
As the player controls Shrek on collecting items for the picnic, they will have to go through minigames and challenges, in order to complete the level and receive items. Additionally, you could collect throughout the area, certain challenges or minigames will contain time limit, for some will not. Whenever the player wins, you will receive items.
Shrek: Treasure Hunt received a negative response from critics upon release. GameRankings, an aggregator for game reviews, assigned the game a score of 29% based on one review. - Ігри
Two things I noticed AFTER finishing and publishing this video (because typical me)... one, Fiona is on the PS1 cover looking into the empty basket even though it's supposed to be a surprise for her. Two, the game mentions using a map, and yet there appears to be no way to open it, if it even exists in the game at all. Any other glaring mistakes I missed that you guys saw?
Shrek looks really tall on the cover art to me. Like bigger than usual
I played Goofy's Fun House when I was little. It was okay. You do random things around Goofy's home and play Mini-Games to collect objects in order to unlockand watch old cartoons staring Goofy and collect film reels to unlock a bonus cartoon.

I remember actually playing this game as a kid back in the day. I thought I was bad at the game because I didn't know what to do. Looking back, it is no surprise.
This game is awful for explaining what to do. There's supposed to be a map as well but I can't access it, no matter what I click!
It’s like the developers looked into the future and got a head start on the Shrek shitposting.
"Hey, if they're gonna rip us apart later we may as well be the ones to sink our own ship."

Edit: according to MobyGames, music for Stuart Little 2 and Shrek: Treasure Hunt comes from GameAudio Ltd., so this is in fact a stock music
playing this game has become a tradition whenever i go and visit my grandma's house, and has been for years. despite that, nobody has ever been able to finish it. nostalgic, however painful to play! lol
Despite all the flaws, this was kinda fun to play because I like Shrek series. Nice review!! Loved the Thanoshrek thumbnail xD

I don't know how but when me and my family played this game, we kinda just adapted to the crap factor and beat the game anyway
We weren't really exposed to better games at the time, but what really makes me laugh in utter Glee is that all the stars aligned to make a perfect shitty game

- a famous franchise
- a company known for bad games and maybe an ok one
Also I still own this game and I can't help but thinking of playing it again for kicks

Oh my god. I think this is one of the first games I ever played. Well... I mostly just watched my dad play it. I remember the fire bride level vividly.

The one thing I remember most from this game, is that the title select screens music sounds like were off to Shreks Funeral. Which is kinda fitting cause the game died on arrival

The Shrek games were such a mixed bag. This one looks atrocious(thank you for playing it so that we don't have to). But I remember that when the xbox launched, they used a Shrek game to showcase just how powerful that console was... and also I remember buying Shrek SuperSlam on the ps2 when it came out, and it was a blast to play with 3 other friends.
That's a weird game to showcase the XBox's power.. 😂
I forgot i had this game and its mere existence and you have now induced some extremely strong PTSD you have done your good deed for today.

If Thanos is Shrek, and doesn't that make Gamora Fiona? Then wouldn't that make Star-Lord Lord Farquaad? Now wait, wouldn't that make rocket donkey? But who would be Groot then? Is it even possible to make the whole MCU characters in to Shrek characters? Things I would never thought about until watching this video.

Personally I always make sure to bring a spare set of picnic armour if a friend forgets their's, stops anyone having to raid any castles or engage in any grave robbing of old knights. It's just common courtesy, y'know? But then, Shrek is an ogre.
If you want a horrible PS1 game, I have a game called "M&M's: Shell Shocked" on my shelf. I'm not sure how or why such a thing materialised, nor why it came into my possession, but I can't imagine an M&M's tie-in game being anything except awful. Well, that or it's an instant classic like Pepsi Man.
I vaguely remember that game being mentioned before, I've heard it's bad.. and I'm very curious as to how you acquired it! 😂

I didn't actually try it, I would imagine on Hard it would reduce the time you have to finish the mini games but I have no clue. I don't dare to go back and find out. 😂

I loved this game when I was younger and have a soft spot for it, but I will not defend it. Explains all the eye strain though.
Also in hard mode enemies make you drop items you've collected.
I got this game because I wanted Shrek 2 but only had a PS1 lmao
Got frustrated with almost every mini game and the loading music depressed the absolute hell out of me so I never played it again.
The only decent game Code Monkeys did was Worms World Party but that can be argued to just be a pseudo expansion of Armageddon.
It doesn't count if they copy paste another game's idea. 😂

Goofy's fun house wasn't that good. In fact, I would say it's mostly bad or mediocre. I owned it. I think it has one of the worst controls ever. Goofy moves super delayed, slow and can frustrate anyone. Sometimes he trips all over the place too and takes forever to get back up. There is one part in the basement where you have to do a bit of platforming. Took 20 mins as a kid to get the film piece Goofy wanted because he jumps like he is on the moon, it's stiffy and takes forever. The fishing mini game puts anyone to sleep. The golf sections were too long, they get old quickly. The song inside the house is always the same, I had to mute it after a while. The only okay parts were the janky driving section (I guess I liked it because I was getting tired of that house), the skiing and some of the puzzles inside the house which were pretty creative. If you know what you're doing, the game lasts less than an hour. So I don't know why people liked it.

Even when I was 12 years old, this game looked terrible to me. A friend just had given me all his video games because he was getting another console, but most of them were trashy. I remember playing for about 20 minutes, getting angry, and then switching to Crash Team Racing again.

I played it as a kid. Despite the terrible graphics and the bad framerate, the game had some fun moments and some boring moments, as a loyal shrek fan who played and watched literally everything about Shrek, yeah, its ok
I remember seeing this in Tesco for £9.99
This game wasn't worth my time, let alone 10 quid. 😂

@@ToridoriGaming Oof, I've never played Crash Bash before, so it's kinda hard for me to compare xD I think Crash Boom Bang is different, it has various minigames but all are bad or mediocre at best and it also tries to work with board game maps. You'll either just have to reach the end of the map or have to find some hidden items to progress in the game. It can get really tedious and some of the minigames appear super often while others don't for some reason. The game also has a story introducing a new villain I can't remember the name of anymore : P

Such a shame you had to suffer through so many bad games for my favourite console. Shrek Does Stupid Shit In The Woods is not certainly his best foray into video gaming. I am hoping that one day you will find a hidden gem out of the stacks and stacks of bad licensed games that exist. This game might explain why Dingo Pictures never made a Shrek ripoff though.
I will keep looking, there's gotta be at least one knock off or movie based game that's actually good! Though it doesn't help a lot of people deliberately suggest bad games knowing I'll suffer. 😂

But yeah, shit game. Definitely among the PS1's worst. So shit, I even hated it as a kid. I couldn't even get past the first minigame because of how uninteresting and boring it was. It also deserves a minus for no Donkey (he was like the most memorable part of the movies for most people!). Great review!

Lolol I actually really enjoyed this game as a kid (well im still a kid but I mean as a younger kid) but looking at gameplays of it now it looks way worse than i remember. I played the game many years ago. Next time I visit my grandparents' im playing this game. They still have the PS1 and the game.

Me and my brother played this game as kids my mom got it from cvs and we never beat it and was really confused about what to do. We never really made it far into the game and overtime the game just stop working still have it and looking back on it now I must say this game looks so terrible and this game came out in 2002 and looked like this when there were games on the ps1 in the 90’s looking way better than this.
Jumping Flash came out in 1995 and it looks far better than this game. Almost every Ps1 game that came out in 1995 looks better than this.

This game does look absolutely bland and the gameplay is boring. You don’t even physically attack the enemies, and like I noticed, even die from them, or anything, for that matter. I’m glad I never played this.
Also, they seem to reuse the same stock instruments and soundtracks from Stuart Little 2, Toy Story Racer, Goofy’s Fun House, Treasure Planet and Jinx. At least Monsters Inc Scare Island and Lilo and Stitch Trouble In Paradise had the budget to make more appropriate soundtracks.
Good news - I'm planning on a Monster's Inc. PS1 review next! 😄

Ahh, are both the PS1 and PS2 versions the same game but with different graphics?
Toridori Massive graphical differences. The PS2 version has got more realistic textures (at least for the time) and natural lighting and appears slightly darker in colour.
Shrek looks really ugly in this game but nothing can ever top PS1 Hagrid.
