i have been sleeping with one of these for about a year and i LOVE it.....i live in a somewhat rural area so i do not have a large volume of traffic but the infrequent can be very disturbing....this machine helps me to not be disturbed by the loud log trucks.....i am very satisfied with it.....
The Dohm is really the best due to the analog natural sound it produces. It's really better than a speaker-based one. I don't think this reviewer really gave it enough time to get used to it.
Looks to me like this machine is perfect for people who are looking for a basic white noise machine and do not need, or want, something with 20 buttons and 30 functions when all they want is some basic background noise. Not everyone is looking for high tech stuff. In fact this is the one I am going to buy because for me, and for many others, this is Exactly what I am looking for.
Sleeping with fan noises for a long time already and recently also apps, I just got THIS yesterday and had spent my 1st night. I do not agree that the sound at setting 1 is "barely audible", I actually find the sound this device produces "loud, although on setting 2 the difference is not much. The sound is much "louder" than from a stand fan, but the sound quality THIS produces is very "brown", very pleasant and very good at masking even if it is "loud". I actually fell asleep after just 15 mins "testing" the unit and listening, and I slept WELL. However, I do not hear the "vibrational hum" that you mention from putting the unit on the floor, but I constantly hear the actual (50hz I assume here in Europe) humming motor noise, which is always present and "underlying" the whooshing sound of the air. I am not sure yet whether I like that motor noise and whether I can get used to it. This "hum" wasn't present with a stand fan, as I assume the Dohm also spins at much higher speed. I am not saying the motor hum by itself is "bad", I simply need to get used to it that it is present, in a sense it is even a pleasant "hum" that is accompanying the woosh sounds :) Overall I find the unit good, but I still keep testing eg. now with apps and a good speaker on my phone, to see what I can do there.
The speaker white noise machines use overlapping sound loops to create “white noise” but every so often the sound loops overlap in such a way that the wavelengths correspond and almost make musical notes or other repeatable sounds that are very distracting. This machine doesn’t do that since it’s a true sound from a mechanical mechanism.
@@phototristan I had one that would occasionally sound like indiscernible voices or beats from music. Used to weird me out until I figured out it’s the machine.
I agree! I had two Marpac Dohm Classic units for years (bought in 2015) and they both finally wore out recently. They made a great sound with only the deep, soothing, “whooshing” noise. It was easy to find the right sound setting and I never heard the “hum” of the motor. BUT, I just bought a new unit and it’s the exact same experience as you’re demonstrating. 😣 I can’t find the same sound that I used to. Not to mention the sound on the low setting is barely audible. When I switch to the higher setting, I get that hard to ignore “hum” that I never got with my old units. Finally, after my first night’s use, my new Dohm felt like it was overheating. Something I never experienced with my two older units. I don’t know why these newer models perform differently, but it’s pretty disappointing. 😕
The older units probably have a better fan inside. That said, if I can get a few years out of mine, I'm happy for the price paid. It's still the best sound.
I have been using marpac for years. I bought my second marpac after the first one expired. It has always works fine for me. It doesn't claim to be a portable unit so I don't agree with the Honest Reviews review of the marpac. I highly recommend it.
I just experienced one of these in a hotel room - loved it - I sleep with a fan on and for a white noise match it was great.

I have a few of these in my office and they are perfect for my use.
Now looking to buy one more. This unit will do just fine for me.

Awesome review! Can't wait to get one for myself

Fantastic review! I like the noise it makes, I think I am going to buy one.

Yep, the looping effect of speakr ones is bad. Your mind learns to anticipate it and that is not relaxing at all.

What's the difference between this and having a fan on?

Does the extra hum disappear if you place the machine on a soft surface?
I guuss it will, you can try to put it over a foam to reduce the hum noise
Yes!
Thanks for the great walk-through and explanation
This product is now being sold as Yogasleep Dohm...it is exactly same as seen on this video.
Great vid man
Great for a baby!!!!
They've been making the same machine since the '60s.
Yes, sometimes the "old stuff" is the best stuff....so many people think high tech is always "better"...This is the one I am going to buy too

this reviewer needs to watch more reviews kkkkkk
the guy knows nothing about this kind of equipment
any link that you recommend?
the problem with this review is the reviewer
How in the world do people like this sound. 😵
Orrrr…. Just purchased a humidifier machine , just saying :)
If you live in the south you absolutely do not need a humidifier 😆
