- Welcome to this video where we will be exploring the differences between white, brown and pink noise, and how they can be used to help you sleep, focus, and manage your anxiety. If you live in an apartment with a noisy neighbor or just find it hard to soundproof a space, one of these noise types might be the solution for you.
In this video, we will take a deep dive into each noise type and explore their unique characteristics. White noise is the most commonly known noise and has a flat and even frequency spectrum, which is perfect for sound masking. Pink noise, on the other hand, has a more natural and less intense sound than white noise, making it a popular choice for sound masking, relaxation, and sleep. Brown noise, also known as red noise, has a deeper and more rumble-like quality, making it a popular choice for sound therapy and reducing stress and anxiety.
It is important to note that the best color choice for sleeping depends on individual preferences and needs, and some people may find that other types of noise, such as white or pink noise, are more helpful for reducing anxiety and promoting better sleep. So, which noise is the best for you? Watch this video to learn more and make an informed decision.

I use brown noise all the time, almost every night to go to sleep. I use white noise to stay focused for work, and keep those to sounds and what I use them for very separate. Nice to hear the science and explanation about the differences, nice video!
Thanks for sharing! 😊
I don't understand why the image macro for this video says "Why brown noise is better." The video makes no reference to such an opinion/recommendation. Other than that, this is a very informative and helpful video.
Have you had bad diarrhea? When you make that noise don't you feel better?
The video does make a reference to that. Watch it again and you'll see it. 😊
@@tambakit OK, I guess I must've missed it. Thanks!
If you combine white, brown, and pink you get Neapolitan noise. 👌
I highly recommend brown to make subliminals btw.
Oh I love those. So just turn the air conditioner on and have an ice cream sandwich. Geez.
For reference: 2:00 White Noise, 3:24 Pink Noise, 4:31 brown noise. I'd heard of pink noise before, but your explanation and samples helps a lot, thanks! Pink noise reminds me of the noise in an airplane. I had not heard of brown noise, but it reminds me of waterfalls at a distance. Keep up the great work! 🟥🍁🟥
Thanks for the time references. Great video, educational
he added timestamps ?
I really like pink and brown noise. Pink makes me feel so comfortable.
White and pink noise gives me anxiety I don’t know why. Brown has been the best helping focus and sleep 💤
I went from white to pink to brown, and now use brown every night to help me fall asleep and stay asleep. Just hoping I don’t become dependent on it!
Thanks for sharing! 😊
Thanks for explaining the difference.
You've explained this subject very well, thank you!
thank you, I only discovered coloured noises recently. My current fave for sleeping is brown noise, so smooth and calming
Thank you so much for posting this! I love falling asleep to brown noise - now I know why! :)
Thank you! Brown noise sounds like a airplane to me and makes me immediately fall asleep. White noise really makes me anxious and just irritable. This explains it. :-)
Very interesting. Had only heard of white noise before which I find stressful. I live in the boonies so not dealing with noisy neighbors, but do have 1 problem. My dog is afraid of thunderstorms and will freak out and climb on top of my head. As you can imagine it is hard to sleep with a 50 pound dog freaking out next to you and/or trying to smother you. I discovered Relax My Dog music works wonderfully to calm her down but I can't sleep with music playing. I am going to try playing brown noise next time she starts freaking out during a thunderstorm and she if it calms her down and I can sleep too.
Thank you so very much, just heard of brown noise 2 nights ago and even though I don't like the sound of it, it has really helped me sleep and wanted to know how it works, will try pink tonight.
Thank you for the break down! Very helpful!!!
Thanks for sharing!
Great video! My wife and I have used brown noise since 2012, back when we lived close to the flight path of the Las Vegas Airport. We found that brown noise helped to muffle/blend the noise of the jet engines just enough so that we didn't hear them while sleeping. We now live under the Life-Flight helicopter path on the east side of the valley (we can sure pick 'em). I run the brown noise through computer speakers with a small subwoofer. I play it loud enough to help drown out most of the helicopters. I learned about pink noise a few months ago, but haven't experimented with it yet.
You certainly know how to pick them is right! I used to live under a flight path about 20 years ago. I wish I knew about brown noise back then! Lol
Does the subwoofer help for these types of sound files? I have a pair of bookshelf speakers and have been thinking about getting a sub.
@The Nightmare The subwoofer gives more resonance, filling the room. My wife describes it as "3-dimensional sound" compared to regular speakers. We have a Logitech 2.1 speaker system (model Z537) which has a small sub and it's plenty loud for us.
Just what I was looking for. Thank you so much!
Thank you for your efforts to help people!
This is such a great and informative video of how the frequencies of different sounds vary. Thank you!!
Thanks for this info! ❤
Great video🏔
Thank you for the video!
This was so helpful, thank you!
Awesome! Thank you xx
Great information. Thank you
This is fantastic thank you!! I'm learning about this to incorporate into my reiki videos for more relaxation and healing for my subscribers.😊🙏😁
Thank you so very much. I am finding that brown noise seems to be much more helpful for me.
For studying it's great. At the begining i found it annoying but in a few minutes i didn't even know i'm hearing something.
As always, great content! Thank you, much appreciated!
Thank you!! 😊
Red or pink noise works for me. The low register sounds are so calming! ❤️
I did not know about red noise and have just downloaded a sample to use tonight.
@@magetaaaaaa red noise is another name for brown (brownian noise) :)
Thx
And comment well deserved!
Thank you so much when I discovered it last night I was so happy ❤
This information is very important you can't just go for feelings and don't understand what it does to and for the body.
Thanks
I'm thankful
I do ❤, liked and subscribed 🎉 Great video! Thank you 👍🏻
Fascinating.
Very useful, thank you
I’ve been researching the different feelings I get went responding to *colored* noise. For me it was really simple, I just listened to the *color* for a second or two, and instinctively knew which sound was good, for me…I could actually feel my body response. When I heard the brown noise, I knew I had found the sound that best for me. Now I’m watching you explain the reason for my internal preference. Interesting stuff. Thanks for posting this info.
"Sometimes you just can't soundproof enough (...), by introducing one these noises into your life might make you not go completely insane."
Spot on. It helped me so much with being overly nervous and neurotic from noise. It's funny how noise helps with noise. For me brown noise was perfect.
Excellent & very helpful
Fascinating 🧐 stuff!
Thanks for great content ❤
I've only heard of white, pink and brown noise in sound design. Thanks for this video!
You’re welcome! 😊
Good info, had not heard of it before.
Very informative !
I stumbled upon brown noise while looking through different frequencies on UA-cam. Oh it’s so wonderful for sleep!!
I agree!!
Gonna give it a shot, thx
Loved the video
Nice explanation
Now that’s new to me. That was educational. I’ll try and experiment with the three different noise. Thank you
You’re welcome! And let us all know which one works best for you!
I find for me, the longer I listen to all three types of noise, brown noise always wins. I used to listen to white noise to help me focus but now I find it ear piercing compared to brown noise.
@@soundproofguide definitely not a fan of white noise. I had to get use to it when I was younger. Pink noise helps me chill out, drowns out a lot of outside noise, but I can’t sleep with it. I like brown noise. It’s like being inside a very quite airplane.
Thank you for making this video! I’ve been having a hard time sleeping and heard so many different coloured noises and wondered which one works best for sleep! Definitely appreciate your video on this! Thank you again! ❤I’ll be back to letcha know if the brown noise works better, I did try the green and pink noise 😊
You’re welcome! Hope brown noise works well for you!! ☺️
Definitely going to get something with pink and brown. I didn't know about the others.
Some say green is good but I’ll have to look into it!
You just won the internet!
Interesting!!
Thanks a lot for your insight. Is pink noise efficient the noise coming from my neighbors apartment who enjoy waking me up at 3 am.
Can you do a video on the different types of earplugs and how some are able to give you a “concert” or “restaurant” experience versus blocking all sounds?
I’m actually only here because my mom randomly sent me this.. sorry but worth the watch
Cool video
Thanks! We just use a fan at night.
Interesting!
White noise is better for me ❤
✋🏿👍🏻great video!
Nice!
Very interesting
Interesting info!
Thanks Holly!
I found a green noise and it's helped sleep
nice
Good
Brown noise is smooth, relaxing.
Awesome thanks for this video. I only just heard of Brown noise today and you've explained it for me 🙂🙂🙂
Happy to hear! Thanks 😊
I've put rubber matts and wood on the floor with a layer of carpet.
Fans are great to help me sleep.
I agree about fans. That's more of a brown noise I find since its a much lower tone than the hissing of white noise.
New to me and I immediately asked Alexa for brown noise to blunt the awful airplane noise over my home. It helped.
Happy to hear!!
Omg, I tried brown noise and boy Iget horrible nightmares everytime, so I'm going to try pink noise 🤞
That’s really interesting! I’ve never heard of it cause nightmares!! Best of luck with Pink noise! Let us know how that one works out for you. Thanks for sharing!! 😊
@@soundproofguide I also can’t listen to brown noise it does not calm me it makes me more anxious… and white and green noise has helped me more sleep and calm
I love brown noise
I sleep under a cpap machine. Would that interfere with a noise machine? I wake up several times a night.
i didn't know what these specifically were, I thought white noise was just supposed to be like the static in an old TV and i hadn't heard of the other two
i didn’t know about brown or pink, white isn’t working so am happy to try something else.
Best of luck!
Yes brown noise if you go for a ride while someone else is driving and you are the kind of person that falls asleep quickly when there’s no music or anything and pretty much just the sound of the car on the road which is exactly how I am then brown noise will work amazing for you because it just sounds like you’re in a space shuttle up in spaceor on an airplane when there’s no other noise it’s just so soothing and it doesn’t sound like you lost signal on your TV like white noise does it’s very high-pitched. It seems like to me, so it’s hard for me to actually fall asleep, but brown noise just immediately put me to sleep.
love your videos in general but this one is my favorite so far, i have been a fan of brown noise for a while (thanks noisy neighbors) and have tried to explain its benefits to friends for a while, this will be a helpful tool. BUT on a different note, I am fascinated by your accent, I cannot place it, if I may ask, I would love to know where your accent comes from (I'm guessing french canadian or close to a french speaking region or upper great lakes area) :)
Thank You! Glad you enjoy my content!
Accent is French from east coast Canada! You were right! 😊
I,m watching MLW wrestling on REELZ and a commercial for an app called Calm spoke about brown noise. Never heard of brown noise and that,s why I,m here
Where can we purchase
I like yellow and purple noise
I never really liked white noise. So i ignored all the sounds. I have tinnitus though, and it really keeps me awake sometimes. I randomly turned on brown noise, and I've been listening to it ever since.
I'd give this 100 likes if I could. Never heard of brown and pink noise. White noise is definitely not the right type of noise for sleep. Brown noise is key!
Thank You!! 😊
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
I listen to brown or green noise when I go to sleep. Will you be discussing green noise at some point? 8:15 8:15 8:15
👍
Im confused 😕 sound to me is a vibration i feel. and dont hear it i guess..the color of sound is a vibration of what i see..I don't hear wind blowing but feel it on my face..it doesn't have "sound"..it has a vibration i find it clear in color, like a window..close the window, theres no sound, open the window i feel it clear color...I cant explain it. Can you help me understand that? Please
I use brown noise often.
For sleep
white noise actually helps babies be calm and sleep
🖤🖤
🤗
Boosting recomended
☺️☺️
The hell I'm going through is upstairs neighbors. Dropping objects, heels steps, closet doors being slammed, a cat and a dog running... how could I possibly block this without wearing earplugs at all times when I'm home?
Those are the worst and most difficult to soundproof since you can’t do much when living in an apartment… 😫
buy a private home if at all possible , game changer
Ask them about getting some area rugs in the worst areas if possible. I really helped a lot for us.
Huh, guess what! I just saw 999 views and clicked it! Now you have 1K views!!
🥳
Pink noise - sound of shower
Brown noise - sound of rain
Pink noise sounds like you're on an aeroplane.
