Just got prescribed this. What an awfull experience. It started out with muscle cramps in my left breast and shoulder. Next was the lightheaded dizziness, narrow vision and pins and needles throughout my whole body especially in my pinky fingers. It all combined one day to a full on panic attack that I couldn't control. I thought I was going to die.. stay away from this medication.
I was started on this back in July 2020 and it caused pins and needles pain all over. The doctor still didn’t make the connection. I cut the 25mg dose in half myself and BINGO! The pins and needles pain is not completely gone but it sure has decreased a lot. I went thru all sorts of testing trying to figure it out but I knew it was the hctz. I’m goin to go natural for my hpb.
I have high blood pressure and I have been taking this for several years. However, recently I have been developing edema in my fingers. Also recently I have had to wake up to go to the bathroom, yet I am still very thirsty in the middle of the night. I know that having high blood pressure is bad, but I am worried this stuff my be starting to kill me! I will be reducing the dosage and possibly going off it at least until I figure out what to do.
It can also reduce the potassium to the point of danger. My spouse nearly died because of HCTZ in addition to an addition to another medication which shares the same function.
I have the 25mg I didn’t realize it says take one half of pill every morning so I’m guessing I need to cut in half I been taking it the whole pill for past 3 days
Just started this medication. Feeling pretty lethargic the past couple days and I'm not sure if it's the medication or something else unrelated. I've only been on it for about a week, gonna give it time to see how I feel in another week or so.
Hi bob I just started 12.5 mg of hctz to treat high bp, been on it for 5 days I feel the same as you, pretty lethargic, very tired and a bit light headed, how are you doing now!? Did the side effects go away?
@@jefferylawrence9812 Hey Jeff, I was moved to another medication entirely, now taking Lsinopril. My side effects did fade after a week or so on HCTZ and I got back to feeling normal again. Just stay in touch with your doctor and they will be happy to switch around medications for you until something works.

You didn't mention the sulfur allergy, I am allergic to medications that contain sulfur such as Bactrim which results in hives/rash the same thing happens with HCTZ due to the sulfur that it's made with, my hair has been falling out for all the years that I've been on this medication so I just keep it cut short now to avoid seeing the bald spots over and over again, the rash is also on my scalp, I'm always tired I have to force myself to work out. I've recently decided that I've had enough and is now actively working hard at getting my weight down to normal for my height so I'm now a vegan and I'm feeling great, I've stopped taking the water pill, this drug is terrible, btw in case you're wondering my dosage is 25mg. Oh forgot to mention the terrible muscle spasms that I've had for many years now for that was taking magnesium pills twice a day, I saw a video by Dr. Berg The Crazy Side Effects of Thiazide Diuretics and he said it can even cause HBP.
Good morning!You mentioned that you're allergic to Sulfur but I'm sure you meant Sulfa which is in Bactrim. I too am allergic to Sulfa and cannot take Bactrim. I hope you understand that I'm not trying to be rude by mentioning the misspelling and I only did so because they are 2 different drugs.Have a great day
Will this cause muscle soreness? I started 25mg a week ago today and yesterday I woke up with my legs feeling sore. About mid day I changed my boots to shoes because I couldn't maneuver my feet when I walk and today is pretty bad. In short I feel like I have MS in my hands and legs. No pain unless I walk and my shoulders feel like they are going to pop out if I move them certain ways plus I think im urinating less now.
For me im having severe weakness and fatigue in my legs and arms and the nurses at the clinic say its not the medication this is killing me so from today I decided to stop the medication on my own i can't take it any longer
@@noreenmadziva4079 it took aver a week but it all went away. I ended up asking a pharmacy tech and she said you flush out all of your electrolytes so it will definitely cause that. Drink pedialyte as soon as you can to help you with it. I drank 2 the day I stopped but probably should have had 1 for a few days. Im glad you took it upon yourself to research it because some drs are crazy about the side effects and how they affect the patients.
That is what I thought because the problem started after they put me on the losartan with the with the HCTZ and not before. So I'm stopping with the HCTZ. I took a laxative today to get things moving again. I hate taking drugs but I had a major stroke back on 3/14 so that is why I went along with all the meds. Thanks
There are risks with this or any medication taken during pregnancy. However, high blood pressure and fluid retention during pregnancy can also be dangerous. Please discuss your concerns with your doctor and ask about the risks versus the benefits.
@@PharmacistTips first time I've questioned my medication. I have used HYTZ Since 1973. I'm 68 now. I was told this was one of the first HB meds at the time. Back when it had to take 10 years of trials. I am also taking Atrovastatin 40 mg and AmLodpine Besylate 2.5 mg. Questioning side effects and there cross over on long time history plus age. I've retired because of the Covy thing. Now sleep insomnia seems a thing along with mussels. My weight is textbook and generally overall better than most. I was a tow truck driver. Fairly active twenty five years. Question is any long term studies on extended use or results? Prying minds would like to know. Thank you for your services.

I agree, this is a very bad medication it almost killed me, the BP drop significantly to 80/50 and I passed out in the first dose

Just quit this. I suspect it was messing up my blood sugar... Two years!

I'm aware of the fact that HCTZ 25 mg had help urinate and hair lost. I have lost 15 pounds in the past few months. Wow that's a lot of side effects.

Knock me out very badly using the first dose and caused a hypotension, I do not recommend
Been on 25 mg for week now. I get up and feel heavy like can’t move around, go lay down. Very lethargic.

Usually hydrochlorothiazide is tolerated well, side effects are only reported in about 1 in 10 people who use it.

Yes. In 3 month of use my near vision becomed blurry. Sould be prescribed for short periods only

I also have losartan without the Hctz that I'm going back on that to see if it helps. Do you think it is the HCTZ rather than the Losartan?
The HCTZ is more likely to cause constipation, it is less likely with losartan.
That is what I thought because the problem started after they put me on the losartan with the with the HCTZ and not before. So I'm stopping with the HCTZ. I took a laxative today to get things moving again. I hate taking drugs but I had a major stroke back on 3/14 so that is why I went along with all the meds. Thanks
