I went to the doctor yesterday and got a reading of 182/74. I could feel that my BP was high. I was given meds and told to take my BP at home, morning and night, over the weekend. I’ve been doing so and the BP was reading on average about 152/77 (less nervous at home). I found this video and tried the breathing exercise. First without the breathing 162/82. Then I started the 6 breaths exercise. Within one minute: 129/69, 118/71 and the last one was 113/75. Amazing stuff.

@@amirsanchez8193 I am over 65, and amusingly, up until 2017, the acceptable BP for someone my age was 150/80. Overnight, in 2017, they reduced this to 120/80, regardless of age. They did the same thing with cholesterol, reducing the ‘acceptable’ level overnight, which, of course, created MILLIONS of new big pharma ‘patients’.

I think it’s called ‘white coat syndrome’ and it is quite common. Most doctors are aware of it so the best is probably to be honest with them about it…. If the doctor knows that you are nervous at the time of the test, they can adjust their interpretation of the results if needed.
Another advice could also be to test yourself regularly with a home device, so you would feel psychologically better prepared for the real test (and the possible outcome).

Take your own at home. I do this also as every doc visit they panic and tell me im hypertensive. This now fuels my fear of BP results. I recently had an endoscopy and was very stressed, not about the procedure, but about what my BP result will be and how will they react. As expected it was very high. But when i was home that evening relaxing in front of the tv i checked my own and got great numbers. So frustrating.

We live in Florida, the traffic is horrendous. Sometimes when I arrive at my doctor’s my blood pressure is high. I told her to take it again when I got ready to leave. I do some deep breathing while she is talking to me andIto her. At leaving, she again takes my blood pressure and its normal. Breathe, people breathe and relax your body. It works every time.

    From the UK:
Had a Doctor's appointment Monday. Had cycled 5-miles to get to the hospital and then climbed four flights of stairs. I hadn't been in Reception more than 20-seconds before the nurse took my BP. My arm wasn't supported and was just hanging down. The reading was 175/92. Within 60 seconds the SYS had dropped over 20 points. They should have waited 5-10 minutes before taking the BP reading. Anyhow, because of those temporarily high readings the doctor prescribed yet more BP tablets and statins. And yet every reading I've taken since is around 118/72. That's crazy healthcare. I won't be taking the new meds - at least until it shoots up consistently.

I have done this breathing exercise and it does work.
Also, when you go into the doctors office and they use that electric blood pressure cuff; it always raises your blood pressure higher then it really is. Request the nurse get the old cuff and pump it up herself. Get a blood pressure meter for home and check it daily. When I go into the office my blood pressure always reads higher in the office then at home. I had my home devise checked and it is correct. Some blood pressure medicine can also raise your blood pressure.... be aware of this.. Find out what your medicine takes out of the body and talk with your doctor and replace it if possible. Statins block your Coq10 and your heart is full of this to stay healthy. The Coq10 supplement many doctors recommend to patients when taking Statins. The New England Journal of Medicine stated that Patients need to be proactive in there health. We need to research and work with the doctor to make the best decisions for our optimal health. If you find yourself with a professional doctor they will look at your research. If they will not look at your research... you need to fire them and move on. It is very unprofessional for a doctor to not listen to a patient. God bless.

Be careful with co enzyme Q10. The las 2 years after exercise if I worked in the garden I would get a red flag situation. Breaking into sweat. And blood pressure going lower 90 over 55. With out it I was fine. Except after sleeping 170 over 100. Sometimes you are damed if you do and damed if you dont. There are many reasons. An besides retaining salt. Hormones can be out of tune. To find it you must chase it. Keep patterns the same. Dont eat margarine. Or butter. Eat Avacado on bread . Only a desert spoonful a day.

At 72 I decided to find myself a doctor. Wasn't easy. Found a "move in" that was building a practice. She's put me through every test Medicare pays for.
First rattle out of the box was scrips for BP meds and statins. I started keeping track of my BP twice a day. I'm consistently below 130 over 60s. I've said no to the meds. I do a healthier diet and a little exercise now.
Last time I was in, she said "It's been 6 months. We need to schedule you for another colonoscopy." I hope she didn't take offense when I laughed in her face.

I’ve been keeping my blood pressure low through breathing for close to 40 years. I learned how to do it when I was in my late teens and so I’ve just always done it. Always insist on a stethoscope reading don’t let them use the automated machine on you. They do not get accurate readings and you can end up medication you don’t need. also eat celery celery won’t give you low blood pressure, but it will lower high blood pressure. This works starts slow because if you’re on blood pressure medication and you have too much celery, it can lower it too much.

My BP earlier today was 144/89 and after trying the breathing exercise for a few minutes, it dropped to 127/92. After lunch is spiked to over 150, but doing the exercises it dropped to 132/87. A bit of bouncing back and forth but I'm hooked on the breathing. Think I'll text my doctor with some good news! Thank you!

I have been off my meds for over a year, last month I was invited for annual health check they checked my pressure which was normal they thought I still take my meds, and blood samples as well as routine check, after a week phoned me for blood results of which all was OK, looking into their system they told me that I haven't been for prescription for ages, what do you take? I said I stopped long ago, they didn't like and told me off. I was asked to take my blood pressure morning and evening for 7 and each time I have to send the results of which was always below 131/82 or 128/81, it's 2 weeks they didn't call me back 😂😂

Well done! I had a similar experience during my annual check up. I am always nervous in any medical consultation, plus, I ran to the medical centre, as I was a bit late. After three consecutive readings, no more than two minutes apart, my systolic BP was in the 160's. Doctor suggested meds. I refused. When I take it at home in the mornings, without caffeine and at rest, after the breathing exercises, it is in the 120's to mid 130's, which is ok for my age of 62 yo.

I had high BP for years. I’m not a huge guy. As high as 200/120. Meds and cutting salt got it to the 140s/100s. Cutting processed sugar was what worked and got it to normal. Big medicine really doesn’t even mention process sugar but it was huge for me.

After resting for 5 mins I had 141/84. Deep breathing for 5 mins had me 138/86, and a 2 min isometric grip hold had 147/88. Interestingly, I found another technique of 6 deep breaths over 30 seconds (relatively quick breaths). This gave me my best reading of 138/81. I’m 61 and live in England. My readings would probably be regarded as acceptable for my age under the National Health Service.
