Hey Netflix, I noticed that you don't have CC's on a lot of your UA-cam videos. It would be helpful to people like me, who are hard of hearing and enjoy your content, to have more accessibility. When I moved to NYC right after college in 2002, the first apartment I lived in was right on Christopher Street, steps away from Stonewall. I was not homophobic but was in the back of my mind, a bit prejudiced. One weekend summer morning while sleeping in bed with a girl I had started dating from my classes, we heard a massive commotion in the street that woke us up. I mean, it was loud. Like a party. We pulled the curtains in the bedroom to see thousands of half naked men on floats and dancing on the street below us. It was the gay pride parade. She got really exited and since she was also a student, from Scotland, and had never experienced anything like it, decided we should get dressed and run downstairs to attend the celebration. She was very serious and I thought it sounded like a nightmare. We spent the next few hours walking around, meeting people and during the evening we had a couple of conversations with celebrating people in a neighborhood bar. Little by little, through her influence and the city's acceptance and tolerance, I completely shed any prejudice I had and fully accepted anyone and everything. Throughout the years I have told this story to friends and coworkers from the LGBTQ community and somewhat feel ashamed of my previous views. My children will never learn that prejudice. They will learn that we are truly all the same.

This is such a beautiful study of humanity. Like, they should study this interview in psychology and behavior analysis classes. Such interesting behavior, how shut down David is at the beginning and "above this", how Jonathan shuts down that negativity so flawlessly, but follows with a chance to allow criticism on him. How he takes that critique and you can see him really working on it the rest of the interview. You can see walls come down. This is why Queer Eye works as a show and why he was meant to be doing this work. He made a friend and helped someone grow. Seriously awesome.

Jonathan is seriously one of the greatest people of our time. He has a heart bigger than most. He is so loving and accepting.
All the bullying he has had in school to being the first male cheerleader. All the people who bully him. Can kiss his ass. He’s cutting hair of the stars. He’s a figure skater. He’s kicking ass in everything he does. So what if he’s non binary? So what if he is a happy guy who is over enthusiastic about things? He’s a good person. He’s a very humble person. He’s someone I wish I could be. He takes pride in everything he does he always is kind to people. I wish I could be more like him.

Watching this after listening to Jonathan Van Ness' podcast Getting Curious, the episode called "What's your Experience with the Binary?" and it's so interesting to watch JVN's learning and growth. In the podcast episode, JVN didn't know that around the time of stonewall, men and women couldn't wear more than 2 pieces of clothing deemed to be the opposite gender's. And in this video, he is the one teaching that history.
