Britt: And I'm Britt Bergmeister.
Trudi: And the most important things about becoming a model are don't assume you are one before you've gotten to be one. That's the first thing, I think.
Do research. Find out what it takes to be a model. If you want to be a model, you need to meet the right people. You need to meet the right person. It might only be one person who actually expresses, tells you that you have potential.
You need someone to take your potential and kind of turn you into a model. It's kind of like taking a diamond in the rough and polishing it until it's a gem. Because most people, when you scout them and you find them the very first time, they don't look like a model. They are a teenage girl who has the potential to be a model.
So that means that you need to listen, learn, and I would say be aware of who you are. I think that when you're first starting out in modeling, it feels like you have no power, but really the power is within you.
I couldn't really narrow it down into a short form of what the tips are. I think that being physically ready, having the height, being in great shape, being confident, and meeting the right people.
Listen to yourself. If it's too good to be true, it's probably too good to be true. Don't let anybody exploit your dreams. Make sure that you're dealing with people who are actually legit, who are not going to try and sell you something that you don't need.
Britt: Right.
Trudi: That is where sort of the confusion comes in, because you do need to walk, but you need to learn to walk from somebody who actually knows how to walk, not somebody who's making money teaching you how to walk and that's the only thing they're ever doing is making money teaching you how to walk.
Britt: Yes.
Trudi: So it has to be someone who actually . . . and this is where scouts, mother agents - in our business we call somebody the mother agent - that's usually the scout or the very first person you come in contact with in this business, that would be someone like me, someone like your mother agent, Elmer Olsen in Toronto, those are the people in smaller areas of the United States who look for talent, groom talent, and basically guide you through, what we call, the development phase, which is the beginning of getting in shape, learning how to wear your hair, learning what to do, learning how to pose or not pose, learning how to walk; all those things.
That's what we do to get you ready to introduce you to an agent in a market like New York or Milan or Paris.
Most important, it's a business. There is something to learn. It's not just about how you look. You can be the prettiest girl in your high school, when you walk in to a casting in New York City, you're one of many pretty girls.
So it's competitive. It's tough. You have to find the confidence within yourself to stand out without having too much of an attitude of thinking that you deserve to stand out. I think that that's where the hard work comes in.
So the tips are: listen to the right people, research, find out research. Because we have the Internet, we have tons of information. That doesn't necessarily mean it's valid. Just because it's on the Internet, doesn't make it true.
But you can find out the right information if you go a little bit further and really dig in and read things, read the right websites and pay attention.
I don't know, really, what your tips would be. I mean, from 13 to now, like what you would say. I mean, patience, obviously.
Britt: Patience was key. When I was 13, I wanted to be a model. I wanted to start right away, and my mother agent, Elmer Olsen said, "Let's wait until you're mature, you're out of high school."
He didn't want to start me right away, and it would be okay. He wanted to go when I was perfectly developed and at my most ready.
So it's all about being patient, trusting your elders and people who can help you and will help mold you into what they believe is the perfect opportunity to showcase you to the world. So just trust the right people.
Trudi: It's kind of about timing. It's about timing.
Britt: Yeah. It's all about timing.

It isn't the be all end all of modelling, however, designers only make one size dress for show, they all do this, and that way they can switch models and outfits with ease. The purpose of runway is to show the clothes, not the people, so an emphasis is put on taller leaner models so that the fabrics hang, and they are the focal point, and not bunches or stretched to fit natural human form, that isn't the point at this stage of their showing. If you want to walk for Chanel in Milan per se, and you are shorter or fuller sized, you will not be cast simply because you don't fit the one off item that was made for the show. It has nothing to do with saying people should only be one body type and more to literally just show the clothes hanging naturally off of a subject. Outside of runway however, any size person can model because its not specifically about fitting into a pre-made sized garment. I hope this helps in understanding what is meant by this.

+Lola Rose Its not about getting a good modelling agency, its about preparing yourself as a professional model when you go into that agency. You can't just walk in and then because you are skinny they will take you. You need preparation.
oh yes i know i have been researching agencies and how to do it and all of that stuff, its been on my mind for a while and its something i want to do and i fee like I'm prepared for it and i have done enough research to understand what to do and how to prepare, thank you tho!!!!!

Hey Lola. I agree with Jonathan on this one. Its about finding your niche. Its all about educating yourself to be a professional. Modelling is not a fantasy world. Thank you for posting these videos. they have been so helpful to me. when i was younger I had a chance to be a modeling but the people that wanted me were scams this has happened twice to me. i live in Arkansas and a very small town. with living here it became harder and harder to follow my dream to be a model. the biggest prob i have is no money to get my pictures taken and put in a book.i had pictures took of me when i was 13 but never got them back from the person how too them. i have been taking pictures of myself with my computer for 5 years some has worked out but i just dont know what else to do. with that said i was hopping you could help me out.and tell me what i can do to make my modeling dream come true.

Here is my thing, I want to be a model so bad. I have lots of support to go try it. But I'm so so so short, and I also have a condition that makes me deathly pale and skinny. Idk I feel like I don't fit in with the beauty standards.
hello I'm really serious about modeling I'm I've dome a lot a research like agencies, types of models etc and over decided to do modeling when I'm older coz I'm still a bit young and etc and I want to be a spokesmodel, print model, catalogue model, a bit of hair modeling & a bit of commercial modeling ( but mainly the first 3)
Average modeling measurements are- Bust/Chest: 34, Waist: 24, Hips: 34. Of course some models have 23 waist or 25 waist, they can have 31 chest or 35 hips these are just the averages. Average height is 5'9 but it varies because one of the top models today is 5'6 so 5'8-6'0 is best but if you're good you can be 5'6 or 5'7 like Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne (?). But obviously you could be 6'1 too. Hope this was helpful! Eat and be healthy!!!!!

Woah woah.. Hold on here... First of all we both have the same body and age description( but I'm 5'7" and 1/2. Yay lol. But anyways, you DO NOT have to wait to get your braces off to be a model. I have braces and so do many other people that model. Why not go ahead and try it?

5 ft isn't that tall for a 13 year old. I would say 5 6" would be tall.

Hi Lisbeth. Yes this is a major issue that we have had in the industry. I am new to this and have started consulting in London for agencies. There wasn't any quality material out there until a month ago. We had an introduction to a professional model called Carl Graham. He has started something called Rollmodels Academy. Its the first ever online video training course that tells you step by step how to prepare to enter an agency. And its super cheap which is even better. We were blown away by the content and we are starting to spread the word about this. Any check it out. We are not making commission or anything like that. So just Google Rollmodels Academy.

Actually, your height and weight does not matter. That is one thing that makes me med about the modeling industry. You do not have to be tall to be a model. You do not have to be perfectly thin to be a model. It's your talent, and it depends on who you go to and who you attract with your look. I know so many gorgeous models that are 5ft-5ft3 and they are gorgeous amazing talented model. It is sadly societies standards for models to be tall and pretty and thin. And modeling industry has so much photoshop and photo altering now a days, and it's annoying because it sets a standard in society that girls or even guys think that they have to meet in order to be "perfect" or model material.

+Amy Gorringe Check what I said to Lisbeth and Gamzee. That will get you there. Agencies want people, but they want them ready. Most of the stuff online and on the blogs is sheer rubbish. You need straight answers. Rollmodels Academy is straight answers and actionable stuff. We are actively encouraging models that are not ready to check out this course. Its one of a kind and nothing like it anywhere else.

I'm 14, Fairly tall, Skinny, long legs, short torso, and quite pretty. (In my opinion.) But there's always people better than me and every time I've thought about doing modeling my confidence has dropped to 0. It's actually the Kendall Jenner look that they mostly go for brown hair, eyebrows that stand out, clear skin and gas that Mediterranean look the brown hair the brown eyes, the semi tanned skin (not to tanned) and those perfect eyebrows that stand out that's what I'm seeing a lot lately however I'm black I want to be a model it's not to say they only take that look there are a few others that looks alot different and is still successful. I wish you luck in the modelling qorld amd hopefully if we both make it we will meet at fashion week one day xx
