I have a 2005 Pilot and it's been bulletproof and the most rugged looking model. Didn't care for the last 2 problematic generations, but I think Honda finally got it together and made a great Pilot again.
@ag4eng my 6 sp ZF has been holding up really well. Just needed a TSB performed a couple of years ago that reprogrammed the TCU and I haven't had any problems since.
super pumped. Saw this at LA Auto show. The exterior looks great in person. We weren't able to check out the inside though. Love the new TrailSport trim.
@Honda, glad to see you brought back the boxy styling of the second generation of the Pilot. I’ve owned the first two generations and was very turned off by the third generation’s design choices. I look forward to purchasing this new Pilot in 2024 when all the first year bugs are worked out. Thanks and keep up the great work!!!
Currently have a 2011 Pilot Touring 4WD, went with the 2nd generation as I HATE the mini van looking 3rd generation. I previously had a 2006 Ridgeline and was thinking of getting a 2021+ Ridgeline with the facelift in Black Edition, but now that the 2023 Pilot is officially here, it's gonna be a tough decision when it comes time to actually pick one.
Come on Honda Motor Company, you can produce an AWD ODYSSEY. Honda Motor Company replied to me in an email and said, "Adding AWD to the Odyssey will lift the vehicle to unacceptable heights" If the engineers at #HONDA CAN NOT PRODUCE An AWD ODYSSEY WITHOUT LIFTING THE BODY HEIGHT, YOU NEED TO STUDY THE TOYOTA SIENNA AWD!!!!!
I think a possible option that other manufacturers are doing, is adding a rear electric motor to power the rear wheels. It avoids needing a driveshaft running to the rear, which adds height to the vehicle.
Was ready to pull the trigger on a Nissan Pathfinder Rockcreek and now I need to really take a comparison look with the Pilot Trailsport. I think these models are the two major competitors for the suburban family that vacations off the beaten path.
The new pathfinder looks good. I would avoid Jeeps unless you want to pump money into a wrangler. Honestly, though, this Pilot might be a great alternative to the pathfinder or forester/outback.
@@minrathejunglist pathfinder does look good but after the whole Jatco transmission stuff i don’t trust anything Nissan anymore unless it has a manual transmission.
A tiny bit more clearance would be nice, for better or worse, people who are going to use for "soft roading" look at ground clearance as one of the very first stats they check, and both the subaru wilderness and jeep trailhawk models that are this vehicles prime competition have much better numbers. A lot of people are just plain going to write this off because of that, which is unfortunate because all the other off-road elements are clearly carefully chosen, and the large interior makes this really appealing as a potential camping/minivanlife vehicle . Even another half-inch of clearance would help and put this closer to at least the substu base trims
That's what confuses me, with all these engineers claiming to have an off-roading background, the fact that they don't add a low gear option baffles me
@@myetoob23 not so sure low range is needed where this is designed to go. Also, engineers design within the parameters and budget given to them. They rarely get to do whatever they want.
Trailsport is nice. Looking forward to the Pilot Phev with a battery that can produce 40-45 miles on ev mode! Also with stage2 wire. This will be first in the segment but is needed
I am a Honda lover. I used to Own a Pre used Honda CRV. After 2009 they stopped the Honda CRV and Honda accord. I was disappointing with Honda because, they never brought the new models of Honda CRdiaV and Accord, currently we are only get the Honda City and Honda WRV (Specific to only India) I request HMSI to bring the new updated models of CRV and Accord to Indian market
yeah great..but do these new models make any flippin HEAT in the winter? We just bought a 2017 Honda pilot Touring in August....Doesn't make much heat for Canadian winters. We watched TONS of review videos, even "long-term" reviews, and did all the typical research. Not once did we hear or read anything about these not making enough HEAT to keep the cabin and therefore the passengers warm in a typical Canadian winter (or anywhere else where it gets actually COLD!!). I started to research "Honda Pilot No Heat" and sure enough I found a few forums and articles that talk about not only Pilots but CR-V's and even civics and more that don't make enough heat. My wife is pregnant and this was a disappointing thing to discover about a vehicle we otherwise have loved. Once the weather got cold for the first time is the only way we discovered it. It does make heat, but even at full blast on high, when its colder than -10c its not enough to keep your toes warm! The cabin is, let's say, "uncomfortable" when it's been -20 or worse. I took it to the dealership and nothing wrong with it and yep the service manager with 25 years experience said yes, its a KNOWN PROBLEM...well, we didn't know about it cause if we did we wouldn't have got it. It's so bad and the engine is so efficient it produces so little heat that at red lights when the engine is only idling, the air blows COLD (nothing to do with the a/c) this is with the heat on HIGH on ANY Fan setting. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM. You can find articles from Canadian news papers where people complained about this to Honda Canada, or to their dealerships and nothing was done so they went to the media. The reporters got answers from Honda like "People should drive less when its cold" or "Try stopping less". There is NO solution to this issue people! Keep that in mind!
I have seen a lot of Hondas accidentally rear ending cars recently. This definitely isn’t Hondas fault, but maybe you could install an emergency braking system?
The Honda Pilot Trailsport is a Pilot dressed in off-road clothes. It's wearing a flannel like the engineers that built it, if you will. At the end of the day, it's not anything more than what Subaru offers in their "off-road" packages for their cars For the Honda fans who like to camp, this is awesome! Mostly because Honda didn't really have anything in this segment before. But I warn anyone thinking it can do any kind of technical off-roading, it's not made for that. It's missing key mechanical aspects that would never happen in a Honda Pilot. But we will see what it can do when people start buying them up, which I'm sure many will! Nice job, Honda!
"In the TrailSport, we've gone out and made the Pilot look like the better design we trashed a few years ago. It doesn't look too much like a potato anymore."
This is actually perfect for us. We will be trading in an older Volvo XC 90 for this. Volvo get too expensive. I’m not spending $65,000 for one of those anymore. I’m just not I can get this for 50
So it’s skid plates, a tow hook, an active differential and software tweaks for the camera? Seems a bit underwhelming. Not a threat to a TRD 4Runner anytime soon.
And all of this is almost useless if Honda can't pass the Moose test on snow...... If they will consistently create AWD or 4WD models that pass the Moose test then they will have my money. Great effort team Honda but I am waiting for more :)

That’s good to hear no mark up. Still about $60k if dealers are selling at $53k MSRP, $1,000 delivery/dealer prep fee and the tax and license. Although that is actually less than it’s competitors. Getting a lightly used/deprecated one for about $39k would be a great deal.
you guys need a hybrid version or significantly better mpg 19mpg in the city is garbage and it'll likely get worse than that based on all my previous honda/acura vehicles

Excited to see this new Honda Pilot in person at a dealer now that Highlander doesn’t have a V6. Honda upped their game while Toyota dropped the ball.
Honda needs to add a low-range option. I'm not sure how this one performs on steep ascents, but on previous models the transmission will overheat.
First gear on the 10 speeds is very short.
