I’m interested to watch this video, the bookish community was one of the first places I felt at place (am I wording that right?) being autistic, people in real life were really difficult for me to connect to. Since I liked books connecting online with others who liked books was magical to me, being able to infodump about books I love is so amazing and it’s one of the reasons I’m so grateful for the internet 🦕

As a super super ultra anxious autistic, YOU BELONG AT THIS EVENT! It was so easy to float between panels, leave, or come in late if needed. Also everyone is just so kind and patient and checks in if you look like you need help lol. Obviously, it's not going to be perfect for everyone, but i so so recommend it. It was the safest exposure therapy experience and i promise you will have a good time!

I've been a stay at home mom for 15 years and I'm autistic, so my friend pool is minimal. Being part of communities like this makes me less lonely, even if it's only ever online.

I don't know if you'll be able to find my comment among all the others, but this video made me start to cry. Specifically around 14:40.
I have been struggling to get back into reading for nearly 14 years. Coming across your videos, both the positive and negative review videos, has really helped bring back an interest in reading I had been begging for after whatever unseen sky daddy out there had stripped away from me. Reading had always been a comfort to me. I know the exact moment in my life when my interest plummeted, and as I said I've been struggling through Hell and high water to get it all back. Because now, more than ever in my life, I've needed the safe space books gave me so long ago.
Your videos helped me so much. I might not share the same interests in books, but you've introduced me to so much that my TBR list has increased exponentially. I even read books that I should've already read at a young age. It's embarrassing to admit, as a 34 year-old woman, but I finally finished reading Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. I would've never done it without finding the inspiration from your videos covering everything from author drama to book reviews to covering book bans.
    Thank you, Rachel.

You made such an important point that we should want to be part of nuanced conversations more than our desire to be right. And that two opposite feelings can at times be true at the same time.
    Thank you! ❤

i was a voracious reader in high school, but i was not a part of the online book community. i stopped for a few years bc i was trying to get out of a depressive slump (and my homophobic parents house). when i left, i started getting back into reading and I stumbled across booktube. i’ve found so many people that are funny, smart, and kind, you included. i feel like i found my people. thank you. we love you, rachel ❤

I’m an isolated SAHM of two and I’ve really enjoyed watching your channel grow over the years. This channel has encouraged me to crawl out of my depression hole and find people to talk to about books. Maybe I’ll try to figure out a way to book net fest. ❤
Also, Half a Soul is a really cute book. I read the whole series. Regency fairytale needed to happen lol

I hope you know, that you make so many lives better. I am chronically ill, and not to be melodramatic but my life really sucks right now.
When I’m very sick and having flares, I listen to your videos like a podcast. You always bring me so much joy with your snarky commentary and we share a lot of opinions, so it’s like listening to a friend rant over voice note (in a parasocial way lol). I hope you know, you make a huge impact. Huge. Every day. And you make my, and many many other bookish fans, days better every time we tune in. Much love from MA

I'm not exaggerating when I say your channel has provided such a net positive in my life. I have had such anxiety about being more involved in the bookish community, and it was you and your channel that motivated me to finally take the plunge. My channel exists because you inspire me. You are truly an awesome person and I see a lot of myself in your story. I wish I had joined the bookish community sooner instead of being a lone reader for most of my life, but I am so glad to be here now.
The plan is to hopefully go to Booknet Fest next year, but life has been hard on my end at the moment. I hope things turn around and get better and that I am able to go. It would be an absolute fucking delight to meet you in person. Never change, stay amazing. 💜💜

I know I didn't find your channel until early 2022. I was still having outpatient care due to a psychotic break in 2020, but I could feel again. But I felt so isolated, and it sucked, so I turned to books. Reading Iron Widow was a turning point of finding joy in things again. I wanted to talk to people about it and found booktube. This community is something I treasure because it is exactly that: a community of people who are all sharing this thing they love.
I love it for that. I appreciate you, Rachel, for that too. You were the first reviewer I felt I could connect with. I know you said here you were glad you'd found this space. Well, I'm glad I found you in it too 💜
(I wish I still had family in FL to use as an excuse to travel the 1400 miles. One day, I'll go, but it may not be a for while)

I hope I’m not overstepping, but you’re not pathetic or at least not regarding what you do online in the book community and how you stand up against book banning in your state. That’s pretty awesome.
And yes, it’s reactionary, but isn’t everything reactionary in a way, no really, what isn’t a reaction?
But the way you talk about books, the opinions you have and the openness and compassion when you talk about serious topics, sharing your own traumatic experiences, can be very healing or at least reassuring to listen to.
Now I’ll continue watching the video and hopefully fall asleep doing so, cause in 4 hours my bunnies will demand food.

As someone who lives nearby in Florida and feels an overwhelming dread due to the political climate around here, your content about book bans and seeing you fight back gives me a lot of hope. I appreciate your content so much! I'm sorry that the negative comments get to you sometimes, and I hope you know your content and point of view matter. And let's be honest, hating on books is part of being a book lover. Sometimes ranting about some nonsense you read is just as fun as reading a book you actually like! lol

i really appreciate you offering personal info i'm always curious how people get started making videos and have always appreciated your frankness, honesty, and welcoming space.
the "it's hard to be rude to people irl" is funny because ive seen this video recently poking fun at how sincere and apologetic we are when walking in a crowded public area vs how rude and angry we get while driving a vehicle on a crowded road.
i would never consider you "reactionary" you bring so much more depth to your analyses then just a reaction
sorry for long comment i could keep going but i feel ridiculous pausing the video every few mins to start a new paragraph haha

Oh, Rachel, you are overflowing with charms. I fell pleasantly into your vibes of Peace and Joy in this video. I loved seeing the pics and footage of all the smiling faces and people enthusiastically enjoying themselves amongst fellow hobbyists and career people. Truly a tribe.
I don't know what kind of bookish events we have in the UK, and I am a staunch basement dweller type with social anxiety so probably wouldn't attend anyway, but I loved living vicariously through your account of your experience and what kinds of people exist out there. Really great video. Brought positive vibes to an otherwise dreary morning for me.
I always admire you for the honesty and forthrightness with which you conduct yourself on your channel. I especially enjoy listening to your videos to help keep me alert when doing mundane or otherwise disagreeable household chores. You enrich my life (not in a creepy way lol).
Thank you for all that you do.

RACHEL! This is such a beautiful video about such a beautiful event - I’m legit tearing up. Booknet Fest is like nothing else currently out there and everyone needs to know about it! Nuanced conversations in community are worth everything. (But also - like you said - so many silly & fun conversations and one liners that made me almost cry with laughter.)
Thank you for bringing your full awesome self to this community and to all of your content! I’m beyond grateful I got to meet you in person and hang a bit.
I definitely want to figure out a little gift to bring new friends next year and I’m OBSESSED with the yearbook idea. Please make Mari & Sam do it!! Also an official pool party would be 🔥!!
And for any fellow content creators watching this who would like to join my monetization Discord (where we support each other through negotiations and contracts and all that juicy stuff), I’d love to have you!
The Discord link that is shared publicly in my bio is my community Discord (Celestial), which is separately awesome and fun and you should for sure join, but it’s actually not the money one. (I saw a few people pop in from this video so I just wanted to clarify that!) For anyone interested in joining the monetization Discord, I don’t post that join link publicly just because I want to keep the community safe and confidential. We are 100% honest in there and I don’t want any brands, etc. finding their way in. So just shoot me a DM or email starrystephbooks@gmail.com and I will send you the link to join - so long as you are a human interested in creating content and making money, you are welcome there. :)

I think I watched like 12 videos of yours in a row these past two days, the five hours one included.
And my mom had one complain about them Rachel. My Brazilian mom, who doesn't speak a word of English, said you speak too fast and that way she can't understand you. For you to please slow down.😂😂😂
But seriously, love your videos, can't get enough

I'm kind of a "lurker viewer." I don't comment much, but I want you to know that I love all of your videos. They may be about books that you haven't liked, but I did. But I watch even those videos because you make me laugh! You've made my day for many days and I will continue to watch your videos. I hope you know how much you're loved 🩷

I don't know if you'll read this Rachel, but you got me back into reading. I used to devour 600 page books in a day when I was in middle and high school but after a while I just couldn't sit down and read anymore. Now I know it was because of undiagnosed ADD that worsened when I got older. I started watching your channel to help cope with my ADD and stay productive initially but really come to love you as a creator, and realized that our tastes overlap a lot. When you recommended a forest of dreams and whispers I took a leap of faith and bought it. After over 10 years of being unable to sit down and read a book, I bought a book and read it. And I loved it. I loved it so much I cried and ended up sending the author an email telling her how much it meant to me. this was Auguat last year and I've read and listened to over 20 books since.
I hate to think that you take other peoples negativity at heart because I think you are an amazing person. You are an amazing creator and I truly am so grateful to have come across your channel because I don't know if I had gotten back into reading without you.
Thanks to you I've rediscovered my love for storytelling and I'm working on the world building of my first book. I hope I'll be able to commission you to read it once its done because it wouldn't be happening without it.

Thank you for being here, thank you for making content, and thank you for reading and caring about books.

I don't know if this is a thing that Booknetfest already does or if it's possible to do, but it would be really cool if the panels were videoed. If I didn't live an ocean away, I would jump at the chance to go because it sounds so cool, but alas, I live an ocean away.
Also I can attest the fact that you've had a positive impact with this channel. So many of your videos are very informative and educational, and I've found them very helpful in being able to form more informed opinions and also just educate others. Your Authors Behaving Badly series has so much useful and important information in it; it's genuinely a wealth of knowledge. Also, your reviews are very entertaining and the "I explain X to my husband" series is one I come back to so often when I'm having a bad day because I know it'll cheer me up.
A few months ago, my mom had a cancer scare and it was terrifying, plus I ended up having to be the rock, for a lack of a better word, for both my mom and brother. And for those two weeks, I was either watching a Dropout show or a video of yours to distract myself and stop me from going into a tailspin, and I can't possibly articulate just how grateful I am to have had your videos to keep me stable.

I don't know who leaves you nasty comments, but they can f*** right off. You make excellent content! I will say, I watch a lot of UA-cam, and I only have notifications on for three booktubers, Jess Owens, Mara, and you. That's it. I watch plenty of other channels, but not every video, and I don't have notifications on.
The content you make is thoughtful, educational, useful, and entertaining as hell. It is very apparent how much time, effort, and care you put into your content. Don't let any dumbass trolls make you question the validity and value of your content or yourself. ❤❤

I always look forward to your videos, no matter if they're ranty about something you hate or gushy about something you love. Your morals and values align so much with mine and it reminds me that no matter how much the world sucks there will always be people who speak up about things that aren't right and stand up for minorities and each other.

I self published a book in 2016 and didn’t know what to do really to get people to read it. I sold a few copies and then nothing. But honestly the book community makes me realize that my book shouldn’t be a thing and that I shouldn’t write. I can’t afford all these things I need, and I can’t sell the book to get the money I need because I’m scared someone will think I’m problematic. I want the book to be inclusive but also feel as if I can’t write this way because it’s not something I live with. This video just cements that I shouldn’t do this. I think I should remove it from Amazon and just give up. Anyway I’ll keep reading though lol.

People get up in arms and truly believe all criticism is negative. Yes, sone criticism is negative but it also constructive. You critique because you want it to be better, because you care! I'm sure you dont spend your limited free time working on shit you dont care about.
