dont know how you managed that they dont offer any more power than the stock metering device did, they just rule out friggin round with the jetting and better economy. maybe you didnt have it dialed properly?
Everyone seems to be switching to Lectron these days. A few years ago I did see one bike with a Big Air PSI on a dirtbike and not a harley, which is supposed to be jet less using a series of screws on the outside. Pretty expensive though.
The Carb. is great. on my '17 xc. Just a note:. many people install this and it's nearly perfect from the factory. Mine was rich to the point that the bike would barely start. I ended up 1.25 turns lean for a setting. I thought something was wrong and called Lectron and they said it was ok. So don't panic and start adjusting everything on the carb. Stick with the metering rod until it sorts out.
dave davo in other words, keep adjusting the metering rod until the bike idles close to ideal, then adjust the idle screw to perfect. sorry about that, sorted or sorted out is a phrase my family uses a lot, and it's not super common in the states.
My instructions from Jeff with my HV Mule said: Adjust the idle and drive it. Do not adjust anything else. I adjusted the idle so far and it seems good, but it's super cold outside and I cant get a real test in until it warms up a little.
motocross211 yeah that's the instructions I got too. I was just surprised to see myself at more than an entire turn out. So I just wanted to make sure that something wasn't wrong.
Lectron was not the first company to make a flat slide carburetor. The Kihein FCR was actually the first one. Keihein made flat slide with rollers. Lectron came out a while after.
Awesome Jeff. Installed mine tonight on the 17 300. Amazed at the difference. It was -15C outside and it didn't seem lean at all. What kind of temperatures will these compensate for? I'm hoping I don't need to touch a thing.
No. I won't be riding in these temps really. This was my only chance to test the bike back to back. I do run Trelleborg studded tires in the winter but I try to stay in -10 at lowest (no wind) to +10C in winter conditions.
I just put my Mule HV on my 300XC tonight. Paired it up with the XC-W Flange, and did the holes Jeff did in his videos. I ran it before and after today, Mikuni first. Was a dog, wouldn't rev out. Had the 1/8th ish to a quarter burble. Put the Lectron on, adjusted the idle like it says. Bike feels different (awesome) already. Cant wait to put some time on this thing.
motocross211 ya thats pretty cold lol i just winterize my bikes shes all put away till i get my 350 4t , 2 strokes dont like the cold lol thats awesome thou ,good to hear its working for u.
Yup, I ride all winter usually with studs. It's funner than dirt riding I think. Really open up the riding experience. My 16 Kawi 450 won't even start when its cold. Meanwhile every two stroke I have in the garage fires right up. My 450 is actually stuck at TDC it's so cold.
I contacted Lectron via email 2 weeks ago asking about my application, even giving them a link to the exact competing SC2 product [a product that is factory calibrated for my Exact application) and asked if they have an equivalent offering from Lectron and if they have experience with my application. They never got back to me and I will never forget this. In the end, I just went with a genuine Keihin PWK (new take off $150) and got a full set of quality jets and needles along with a different sized throttle slide along with a WBO2 sensor and I still have money to spend compared to if I dropped $700 on a Lectron/SC2. I'm skill skeptical of how the Lectron/SC2 compensates for altitude, I have yet to find anything other than the same repeated non-explanation explanations.
Hello: If you really are serious about contacting any company, pull the phone out of your pocket and call. They may have never even received your email or they may have responded and it bounced back due to some glitch. Standard carburetors also adjust for elevation, because the air density would change the pressure differential in the float bowl, and if the fuel density does not change that means less fuel is drawn up.
Jeff I got a Lectron carb for my 2000 rm250 ran great 1 kick for several days then was hard to start wouldn’t start had to heat plug w torch then it would start. JC Kloppers I really like the smart Carb idea. I guess performance and function have been a bit of an issue. the reports of orders not being filled, and customers not being able to contact anyone was a big issue. hopefully that will all get straightened out, and we'll have another great option.
Lectron and I have done a lot of development for the '17s, they give excellent customer service, we have them in stock and they work very well. Smart Carbs: Poor customer service, never have product to sell and a sketchy performance record. Life is too short to deal with their issues.
I currently have a cast 38mm Smart Carb on my 1997 YZ285 ( Max RPM's 285cc big bore kit ). I think they have great customer service, always helpful, it seems that everyone on You Tube that has videos on them like it. My bike screams with it , very snappy especially in the mid range. My carb was on back order for a few months in the winter of 2016, but it was too cold to be riding then anyways. The Smart Carb only has 2 adjusters, the idle/air screw and the lean / rich metering rod adjuster on top. No complaints here.
I bought one of these for a 2017 300 XC. it hardly ran at all when I first put it on so I turned the metering rod in clockwise one full turn which helped immensely. But still boggy in the bottom end so I went a half turn more still boggy in bottom end. should I keep on turning? is this normal to have to do on the HV mule?
Hey Jeff I bought this lectron from you and It's had a slight bog to nasty bog at times since I installed it. I probably have 7 hrs on it at this setting. I have the slavens head and vforce 4 reeds. Bike has a total of 27 hrs on it since new. I'm thinking metering rod might be backwards. I road it last Sunday and it was to bad to ride.
Move the metering rod 1/2 a turn like you said and bam right on the money. The bike runs mint not even a hint of a bog anymore and the bottom end woke wright up. Thanks jeff happy lectron owner.
I lived in Modesto ca. in the 70 and 80 and I remember Kenny ran those carbs as did many flatrackers . We offroaders never took to them though. I have an xc300 that you ported and it runs really strong and clean. I sure would like more off the bottom low rpm power though. I also ride a 150xc that i really enjoy on trails but it is finicky to keep jetted thru the altitudes and seasons. Do you think this carb would benefit a small bore? Maybe more bottom on the 300? thanks, Dave

you need to order it new directly from lectron.. they will need to know about your engine spec and detail when order it because they will set it up to what your bike needed... if bought used from somebody, it might not work best on your bikes because every bike needed different settings.. im from malaysia and been using lectron on my kx125 since 2012 till now without any issue and it makes big different in performance and response of the bike... it worth the money although it so expensive (for me because im not born in wealthy and rich family..)
Insightful video Jeff. I was astonished how much better my 17 300 XC ran after adding the Lectron! Much better fuel mileage and no spooge.

Hi Jeff, could you show us how to change the metering rod and what to look out for?
Do you mean how to adjust it? I have a video for that.
Jeff, I bought mine together with a richer metering rod but hesitant to try because I am afraid to screw up perfection!
