When I first saw your classroom tour, I was a veteran teacher who was feeling ho hum about teaching. After seeing this video and your daily vlogs, you totally changed my attitude. I bought a laminator (I didn't know they were so inexpensive) and revamped my classroom. Teacher burnout is real and seeing a young teacher so excited sparked a return of the old me. While you were reminiscing, I was saying "yep, I made that, I bought that, I used that". Thanks for helping veteran and new teachers alike!
This is so beautiful! Love this! Thank you for sharing, Carol! Her videos inspire me too!!
Wow, Carol! You had the same experience that I had. Michelle's videos have reinvigorated my way of teaching! After being a teacher for over 20 years, I have had a total change of attitude, too!! I hope that she realizes how much of an impact that she has made on new and veteran teacher alike over the years with her videos.
I agree Carol, I found Michelle during the pandemic and she has brought some great energy back to my teaching. I would cringe if I had video of my teaching from thirty years ago too. We keep evolving, thank goodness! Thanks Michelle
I’m not even a teacher, just a crafter & I bought so much stuff she’s shown 😂🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ we’re all guilty!!!
This is the sweetest!! :)
I will say that as a student who just graduated high school, I promise to all the primary teachers out there, that, yes, in the moment it’s nice to have a “cute” classroom, that is absolutely not what mattered in the long run. I only remember what one of my classrooms looked like as a child, but I do remember every single one of my teachers.
Agree!!!!
I think your clip chart reflection was super interesting! Maybe you could do a video about teacher trends and whether they’re supportive of student learning or not.
I love your idea
I would love to hear that too. I just graduated high school and I was *raised* on behavior charts. I was that really good kid, and my card never got moved once in all my years of primary, but for the first time, I’m thinking about how it was constantly looming over me that I would mess up one time and I would have to move my card which would’ve been the end of my world.
Great idea
YESSS, cause apparently, things do dies down over time!
YES! I loved when she mentioned that because clip charts were THE THING TO DO for a long while and now they have fallen out of favor. That would be an interesting video topic! :)
I remember watching this video when I was in college to become a teacher, and now I am in my 3rd year of teaching 2nd grade! Thanks for all the awesome inspiration and ideas over the years! 😁
100% love the original video! This reaction reminded me of the time when I decided I was going to be an elementary school teacher. I was on lunch break during in college and I was a STEM major. I loved it, but I felt it wasn’t for me. I searched “classroom tour” to watch while I ate because I always loved cute classes (even though I was in denial about being a teacher). I watched this video and LOVED it. I decided to volunteer in a STEM after school program for kids, and now all of the sudden - I’m in my 4th year of teaching and I couldn’t be happier! Thanks so much!
I definitely feel like an OG subscriber! This was the second video I watched of yours (first was pocketful of positivity)! It is absolutely fine to have those cringe worthy moments! I had them with my Dad and his room! I think the saying “mistakes are proof you are trying” is perfect when it comes to classroom design and setup! It is never perfect, but as long as the room is an inviting and functional space that’s all that matters!!
I am definitely an OG subscriber here for Michelle! This was actually shortly after I first found Bridget after I graduated from 8th Grade, but for Michelle’s last year of teaching 2nd Grade, I was starting HS! Now I’ve started college last week to become a Elementary Teacher!!
This was such a great video idea! Your facial expressions and reactions are priceless. Cracking me up. I love your thoughts and reflections on each item. I’ve followed you since the very beginning. You’re amazing, helpful, inspirational, and adorable. Just what we all need. Thank you for everything.
I purposefully NEVER fully set up the room with bulletin boards, jobs, etc. because I want the kids to be the ones to make the room come to life! It also helps me be mindful of putting up things that are helpful and aren’t distracting. If anyone is curious there’s quite a bit of research out there about classroom decor and student attention/distraction. Something to consider.
Same! The take care of everything more as well.
I started watching your videos when I was student teaching and your ideas made it much easier for me to get organized at the start of my first year. I also have two of those striped caddies which I bought right after you did and will never, ever let them go.
Love this video! You should do a reaction to all of the emotional moments you went through and recorded when you vlogged your teaching! It would be so interesting to see what you would say to young teachers that get emotional or go through hardships in their careers! Thanks Michelle!
Wow, I still remember this video!! I loved watching this when you vlogged because I would get ideas for my classroom. It was such a throwback to watch this again.😉 Thank you for sharing.
I would love to see a video about all of your favorite teacher you tubers! Thank you for being my kind of Type A teacher! Your gifts are so abundant. Thank you for sharing them with us!!!❤️
Love watching you react to this old video. I remember watching this video and getting inspired to have a more organized classroom. This year I’m not teaching but once I return to teaching I’ll incorporate some of your ideas into my new classroom. Best of luck on all your future endeavors.
I’m glad you’re looking back at your past videos. That year was my favorite time for your vlogs. I hope you’ll react to some of those big events from that year, adding your perspective from where you are now.
The typical elementary school teacher necklace. 😂
I started watching your channel when I made decision to change careers and become a teacher. (3 years ago) I am now a 2nd grade teacher!! You kept me motivated to keep going and I use so many tips and tricks. ❤️
Ohh how I love this! It's interesting to see how things we may have thought were best practice have changed. I am an Aussie teacher, so some things are quite different, but still, so relatable!
I always research your old videos. Your blogs were my favourite so when I’m doing work you’re always in the background haha this was fun. Do more reactions!
Is it sad that I remember you got rid of the Iris scrapbooking cart as it broke before you moved. One of the shelves collapsed and the laminate was peeling. You said you wouldn't recommend it. 😉 You ended up buying a different one to keep all the indoor recess games in at your new school.
This was a fun video to watch but I think it is also a great example of teacher reflection! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and modeling how to reflect. This video is proof that teachers can and should continue to educate themselves and constantly strive to become better teachers.
You are so awesome!!! I have loved all your inspiration through the years!
I remember watching this tour years ago and it’s why I got my teacher toolbox! I still have your labels on mine.
I start my first day of school September 9th! Year three of Middle school, here we go. Good luck this year with your brake from the classroom. I’m excited for more content like this
Great ideas, Michelle as always very good videos. Thank you for all your time and effort.
Your tour is so thorough lol - “Here’s where I keep the tape, here’s where I keep the Kleenex.” I love your cringe face in your reactions. But I remember watching your OG videos when I was in school and literally taking notes on things I needed to create or buy for my future classroom. 💛
You've been amazing since the beginning!!!! Kuddos to you girl!!!!
I’m gonna have to steal that anchor chart hack. Brilliant idea!
Can’t believe how long it’s been I’ve been watching your videos since the second one you ever uploaded. 😂
I remember this tour! This is when I first found your channel and truly found out that I wanted to go into Elementary Education!
Hahaha I remember when “not having a teacher desk” was the biggest trend. My friend got rid of hers and regretted it. Because it didn’t actually help her reduce clutter, it just spread to different areas.
I also remember the clip chart. That was not only a “trend”, my school required us to use it. It was part of our PBIS program at the time. Times have changed thankfully!
I met you a longgg time ago, when we were both starting at AACPS at the new Teacher orientation. This was the year after this one. I’m glad you are doing so well! I’ve been watching your channel for YEARS.
So fun looking back at your old classroom!!!
I was able to gain some great ideas by re-watching this with you. I am required to have "We Will and You Will" statements visible on my board. Well, I would just write them and now I'm making them on Slides and printing them out so I don't have to write them everyday. Great idea!!!
I actually took the "brain sprinkles" idea way back when this first came out, love it!!
You are amazing. Watching your videos has helped me so much.
I love my desk too! And also agree books shouldn't be leveled. You are making me think more about investing in a Cricut! Fun video!
My favorite part of this video is watching your facial expressions while you’re reacting 😂😂
We learn something all the time. It has taken me 14 years of trying to find a way to organize papers that works for me. I think I have finally found it.
Loved this!! Looking forward to part 2......and possibly a reaction to your 4th grade classroom tour?
Yes please react to your 4th grade tour!
Great job. I wish you make some videos for high school classrooms. You know in high school each classroom specific for one subject for example Algebra1 and Geometry.
Thanks for sharing 👍
This was great. I still use DOJO with my preschool families.
I love seeing this video. Can we please get an update video on your plans for this year and next year? I understand the reason you did not teach this year due to the move. ( Congrats by the way) I would love to know if you'll be teaching again and videos on interviewing. I graduate next fall with my Masters in Education: certification in prek-5th. So excited to be teaching and interviewing for schools.
I remember seeing that video when it first came out :D loved following you back when you were in second grade :D!
Love your hair in your first video!!
I remember finding your videos right around the time you posted this and thinking it was SO cool because my name is also Michelle and I taught (still do!) 2nd Grade! I can't tell you how many of your ideas I took from this video to use in my own classroom! It was fun to rewatch this!
Your face when you saw the sterlite bins... you made me laugh.
This was my inspiration of my classroom before during this time. :)
I got colored stickers off Amazon! I put the book sticker on the bin label. So far it’s worked alright!
I think you should do more reaction videos on video for education there is currently a British series on UA-cam called educating Manchester they place cameras on an England high school and show what’s its like it’s very interesting to see how different they are to our schools very good season I recommend it
I loved it! I teach 2nd now and I love it. This is my 2nd year teaching it. I'm still trying to get my library organized. Since we really aren't using it because of COVID, I'm not stressing.
I think the coffee cart became where you stored board games and such for indoor recess in 4th.
So many good ideas even if they seem old to you! Can you talk more about not organizing and leveling books? I feel kids need to read at their level in order to grow. Not all the time but mine stick to leveled books during SSR time. I work in a very rural area. Things seem to find their way to us much later. In fact clip charts were all the rage just two years ago. Glad I never jumped on that wagon even if my administration did encourage us to use them.
The universe takes care of you when you move with a pure heart and good intentions.
When I saw the title of this I almost didn't want to watch, because I was afraid you would be really snarky about your earlier videos. I am so glad you kept it positive (except for the revulsion over your lack of pen/pencil caddy...LOL) and only critiqued changes in basic classroom management (clip chart, etc.) I especially loved when you cheered yourself on for reminding us of your TPT store!! :)
I’m not even a teacher, I actually just started college and I remember that video being my first video I had ever seen of urs 😂
Omg I remember this video. To be honest this is the very first video of yours that I watched. I even remember the student you name knuckles in another video. Your channel was the very first one that I found.

Michelle ,
You are such an inspiration to me in more ways than one .
Even though that was the past that classroom ( specifically your colored system " behavior clip chart " ) gave me plenty of ideas specifically when it comes to managing myself with My Birthday Project and organizational ideas in my house .
Thank you for sharing your ideas and your experiences from " the teacher's desk "
if you will . You were the first teacher tuber I ever seen and really your stories at that time really hit home the most and actually wound up bringing the most out of me .
I hope that you will be able to return to that in the future .

Question, did you alter your teacher tool box? I noticed you had the larger storage compartments for the glue sticks and tape rolls in the middle.
I would love to see more reaction videos!
Love it!
I like your shirt were did u get it and I work in culinary put that give s me movation to keep going at work
You were awesome...even in the beginning!!!
I always wondered what that clicky sound was/ your camera!
I love the channel name and when I first heard it I thought it was Going to be an Australian teacher because Primary school is kindergarten - year 6. Still love the channel and the ideas.
School social worker here- was SO happy to hear you ditched the clip chart! We all live and learn!
did you do a teacher planner for 2021-2022
The intro 🤌🤌
Where did you get the job chart idea from please?
Thanks for mentioning the clip chart! My mentor teacher used that so I thought it was okay but it is so embarrassing for students to be placed on the red section. Imagine if our principal did that to the teachers? Positive reinforcement is everything. :)
Class sizes are so interesting from school to school. You had as low as 18 second graders. I teach public preschool and I stay at 20 students always. You’d think lower grades would have fewer students but it’s so different depending on where you are and the year.
Happiness and love everybody ✌
Some of the shelves in that white cart fell collapsed and the cart just started falling apart at the end of your second grade year when you moved so you threw it out.
Way off topic but, what books do you recommend for 2nd-3rd grade reluctant readers to read out loud to increase fluency? My son has a slight language disorder. My son likes graphic novel type of books. He has read most of the Dogman series. Did not like Magic Treehouse.
I cannot function without my teacher desk!!!!
Your coffee maker cart, you throw away, because it broke on the way out to your car. You vlogged about it on your #ThatTeacherLife Series!!
are u still teaching , have you found a school yet to work at ?
We usually have between 18 and 20 students. I cannot imagine 35!
LANYARD! It's called a lanyard haha
I wish you didn’t point out the clicking noise because that is all I am concentrating on haha
Tips for organizing a classroom with no cabinets or countertops?
Buy some Walmart or Target brands of these IKEA furniture! They will looks a lot like IKEA but cheaper! I recommend cubes shelf’s as it can have LOTS of great storage! You can also get this from Amazon too! Something I will get nuts about in like 2-3 years when I start teaching is how much stuff I honestly will eventually hoard and not realize, so be careful with what you have in your room! 🤣😊
Hello, again. First, I totally just bought your classroom rules seen in that video! I have to have them up, but I used the editable ones and we made them together :) So I am wondering, what reasoning is behind the cringe and "get rid of behavior clip charts"? What instead? Thanks!
Me personally, I hated them as a kid. I hated whenever I was having a moment and my clip would be carried down the chart for everyone to see and think of me as a “bad” kid. It was never constructive reflection and made me feel even more shameful and aggravated. Plus, I began to feel resentment towards the kids who were constantly moving up and receiving praise. In my point of view, the clip chart does not contribute to creating a collaborative classroom community that supports one another.
@@jaclynstepnowski9649 I definitely understand those feelings and how a clip chart could be used in a negative way. However, mine is used with the support of the 7 healthy habits. I "raise" my students to be a family inside our "house". They always have a chance to redirect their behavior and move back up the chart. If any student ever reaches the bottom, they have basically cursed me out or thrown furniture (yes, that has happened :( ). I think it gives kids a chance to know that mistakes can be corrected and forgotten, hence the moving back up. Not to mention, there are like a solid 4 verbal encounters for redirection, deescalation techniques, redirection techniques, etc. before the first clip movement every occurs. Tabula Rasa with each new day:)
Will you ever go back teaching
The s is upside down to fit the triangle!
My second grade teacher had those pipes but instead of pipes and stuff she used fake plastic phones with the fluency! I am in 4th grade
Have you ever had a parent get mad for “brain sprinkles” just curious lol I had a parent get furious with me for it 😆
Why haha? It’s just glitter
Nope! I've never had that be an issue. Again, only about 3-5 individual pieces of glitter fall out when I do it so I'm not dumping a ton of it on their heads 😂
Back to school
Not understanding what you mean by rules not being necessary? Did you have school rules?
I think she meant having “set” rules. These 5 rules were from a program called “whole brain teaching”, which TONS of people used to use, yet they never even used Whole Brain Teaching in their class. I think she means that after this point she came up with rules as a class. But I can’t speak for her, that’s just what I’m thinking. This was a big trend at the time.
Since I teach in high school in another country (Sweden), I’m genuinely curious why teachers in other countries decorate their classrooms. Isn’t it distracting for the students? Do you pay for it yourselves? I have so many questions every time I see a video that has to do with classroom decor and tour.
It just makes the classroom so much more inviting and welcoming :) most students don’t want to be in school in the first place for whatever reason but some fun decorations can help it feel nicer :)
Michelle Emerson I'm actually flying down to Texas in 2 weeks I would like to invite you and your husband to New Braunfels Texas I'm flying down from Chicago IL I would like to get to know both of you in person I'll be stay at Comal Resort

I didn't learn to speak English until I came here in 1986. I have been an US citizen longer that I live in my home country. I still HATE, LOUTH, DISLIKE to hear my own voice recorded. Even after teaching elementary for 16 years. How did you get over the fear at the beginniing?
🌵🌵🌵👍👍👍
Omg 😂
Amazing! But you must have spent so much of your own money! The worst part of teaching!
