I've always loved Popin Cookin kits but noticed them starting to be harder and harder to find. A lot of sellers on Amazon no longer offer them and there seems to be fewer new kits coming out in general. A typical candy kit used to have many DIYs that were relatively simple to make and you end up with several types of miniature foods. I find that a lot of the newer kits use more complex science such as multi-step spherification. There's also another current kit which lets you mix and match different colours of alginate bubbles.
    #asmr #crafts #diy
If you're interested in the history, Popin Cookin was renamed into Kracie Foods in 2017. This is why you don't see the logo around anymore, and their USA website has been inactive since 2019 ( www.popincookin.us/story ). Kracie still sold kits under the Popin Cookin brand for a while but the old-school "Popin Cookin" as we know it no longer exists. Other companies like Meiji also entered the market, offering products that are extremely similar to the original Popin Cookin kits.

My favorite part about candy kits is, there’s very little waste. You can eat the final product and use the molds for other craft projects. They’re really worth the money..

    • @maqaroon
      @maqaroon  10 місяців тому +383

Yes I agree! "Hands on time" is something that is rarely mentioned with DIYs but Popin Cookin kits give you loads of stuff to do for very little material. The final result can also be eaten so it's really economical.

That's actually my least favourite part of them haha. I am not very crafty, so I wouldn't have use for all the plastic left behind. It seems like a lot of plastic waste for a small amount of candy.

Yes!!! I’d watch rement toys, RR cherry pie and kracie videos. RR had these other fake food, inedible minis, they’d have boiling and frying effects. They were so fun to watch and listen to :)
I used to love watching Sugar Charm shop make mini foods out of clay, and there was a woman who did her own makeup and skin care (Leesha) and I didn’t care about makeup but I loved her voice.
Shoot, back in the 80s I’d fall asleep why friends would comb my hair or put makeup on me, tingles and sleepies.
Then, I found myself working odd hours in the early 2000s and there was a travel show where this woman went to spas and had various treatments…massages, facials etc and I’d fall asleep watching it.
My partner thought I was weird, but I swore the silence, the slight crinkles and whispering made me “woozy” and I’d pass out.
Once UA-cam happened I kept finding things like watch repair, puzzle building, and then RR cherry pie and whatnot started to crop up. Suddenly, it seemed overnight I was hearing the term ASMR. I felt so VINDICATED. Finally! A concept and community!
I loved seeing this comment because I totally agree that ASMR was happening before it had a name, we’ve had folks seeking the phenomenon out long before it was a “thing”.

What I always liked about Kracie is that they’re very clear about their flavors on the packaging. If you look at the packet, you can see little photos of what each candy is supposed to taste like, and it’s always delicious.
I bought one from a different brand other than Kracie that was intended to make a cute set of sweets, and it included a brown sauce for some of them. Naturally, in the context of a candy kit, I assumed that brown sauce would have been chocolate.
To my shock and utter horror, I put it in my mouth and it was the most rancid tea flavor I’ve ever tasted.
    I don’t even like tea.

RRCherryPie was my childhood, I’m actually really really happy I grew up around the time when it was popular, I loved the older kits dearly, and I even loved the different brands that would make candy kits! I remember one where you would add water to a little science flask, then add a powder to flavor it and make it fizzy! I believe the colors came in blue and purple, and I also remember a little icecream kit, where you would add water and white pellets to a clear tray, mix it, and it turns into either soda or strawberry flavored foam, that you would scoop onto little ice cream cones! I miss the simpler times of watching those videos on my computer. ^^

This seems really fun. If there are multiple children in the household, the kids sitting together - the younger one needing the expert advice of the older one in creating the candies.

9:06 I feel like all the colour would run off a Smartie if you sphereified something around it... and then you'd just be left with soggy chocolate, which is nobody's favourite. XP

Stuff like this is so cool, You get pictures in case you can't read the directions so even people that don't speak the language can participate.
You can reuse so much of the kit and there's not all this wasted plastic like munch of American crafting kits.

I like the idea of making a kid work and think to get their candy. Personally I know I would have loved, the most exciting candy I had in my childhood was kinder surprise (which I still love 😂).

warning when using these, most people should use bottled water when making these because some parts of the world
use hard water, but these products were made in japan where soft water is more common.
    hard water: more minerals/chemicals
    soft: more calcium/ salt
hard water isn't bad, just processed more[ie cleaning, filtering, or additives]

I remembered when I sorta played it with my siblings (multiple years older then me when I was like 5-7 or smth) and my older sisters made it while me and my brother helped out cutting open the package and sorting things out. I remember I was the taste tester 💀 it tasted kinda like glue, dried watery glue. I’d say it was funny how I decided to not even hesitate and ate it just cause it looked delicious on the package

In my teen years, I watched so many different UA-camrs do Popin Cookin kits and I thought they were the coolness thing ever I always wanted to try them all and I finally did try the Hamburger one I got for my 22 birthday and it was so much fun so I'm sad they aren't really a thing anymore unless you live in Japan and from what I've seen in the comments even then there aren't that many sold in Japan anymore especially the older ones. 😞
