A very rare example of a late model Cessna 180K with all the desirable attributes on one airframe.

- Very hard to find a single aircraft with all the features that make these Cessna 180's so desirable. It was thought that one did not exist and yet here it is. Late model 1979, low time airframe, upgraded 520 engine also low time. A three bladed prop, a float kit but it has never been on floats, excellent paint excellent custom leather interior, Avidyne IFR avionics, a wet wing with 88 gallons capacity. Two sets of tires, 31 inch and 850x6's. Large 185 vertical fin and Gross weight increase. Never damaged and very complete logbooks. We have a close look at it and what makes it so rare.
Mark, 'loved this video. I almost have a unicorn. My '79 has a float kit but never been on floats, has wet wing, jack screw access plate, bigger Texas Skyway 0-550 engine, Sportsman cuff, VGs, converted to an Alaskan utility interior, no corrosion, no damage history, complete set of logs, 8.5" tires with snider speed kit, IFR...BUT 3500 total hrs which is more than this buggy's 1900 hours. I also love this Skywagon's paint scheme...very, very attractive! Good to see you back at it!
Sounds like a sister ship.
That plane is a dream come true. All I need is a cargo pod attached to the lower fuselage and it's off to wander the country. Thanks for the walk-around.
I like the way you introduce the planes in all your vids. Like were on an aviation safari...the quietness of this airport is like the savannah lol. you clearly know this information due to a personal interest, its very engaging.
Thank you. Unicorns are rare and furtive, you have to respect them and they will come to you like this one did.
Great to see you back in the Air
Thanks. Maule Next.
Thank you for another great video. I love learning through the details that you share. Cheers.
Thank you. That was a great plane.
Iam 8882 and live in Idaho and learned to flying the back country this a list of my planes that i was blessed with first 172 182 180 185 206 then a 180 that i loved God kept me safe I know cause i had some close calls and I mean close . I loved flying. I still wish i could fly . thanks.
Perfect sequence of planes.
I was looking at this plane when I landed at Placerville a few months ago - had no idea I was looking at a unicorn
Glad you're back Mark, watch all the videos. Thanks
about 20 years ago I saw a 206 with all the bush mods and cargo pod with tundra tires, I would hope you get to review that one day, really great show, also when I lived in Smithers B.C. there were half a dozen unicorns from super cubs to Beavers, what a great airport in the summer
Amazing plane. Unicorns do exist. Congrats Mark , great channel skywagon univ. Best regards from Córdoba, Argentina. I watch always your videos. Cheers
Thank you, Fede. We appreciate you!
Good stuff Mark!
Thanks Juan. I noticed a lot of Deers in the Sierras today. :-)
@@skywagonuniversity5023 Bwaaaah!
I love the kx170b in such a modernized and beautiful aircraft, good 70s touch
The last bastion of Utility, a KX 170B radio.
I'm glad to see you again and your great videos!!!
Greetings from Entre Rios, Argentina!
Hey, thanks!
Glad to see you back! I love these videos
Glad you like them!
Great to see you back Mark. Have seen the TV new of the fires down here in NZ.
That plane is a very fine looking classic unicorn very tempting if I had back country property... I believe we would probably have a few unicorns like this hiding down here in New Zealand's South Island, as I reckon nearly every high country station will have a 180 or 185 hiding behind the barn doors somewhere. Living in the biggest city here, You see the odd one venturing into Christchurch Airport NZCH full of crayfish crates from a jaunt over the 10000ft mountains from the far southwest, but I suspect with interiors nothing like this beauty. :)
Hi Mark. Good to see you back. During that Fire Juan brought the Husky up to Bellingham and we did some flying in the San Juan Islands. What a nice 180
Good to have you guys back and with a beautiful 180‼️
Thank you.
Hello Mark, it's been a while since your last video! Your knowledge will be very useful when I can get my first C172. Congrats from Trinidad, Uruguay! Please keep forward with this!
Hey, thanks!
Sweetheart of a 180.
Hey Mark,
My buddy (Harry) has a BEAUTIFUL 185 and is getting ready to sell it as he’s restoring his Dads 1959 182…..I told him to contact you when ready on the 185 and sent him this video….😎👍🏼
Thank you.
Sweet looking 180.
Thank you.
Sweet airplane. Always wanted a Cessna taildragger.
Your expertise is amazing and inspiring, Mark! And... I loved the "Captain Morgan-like Bushwheel step" you attempted. I about lost it.
Yes, thanks, I alike to get out of a nasty looking Skywagon and "Captain Morgan" the tire while tearing off my sunglasses, but not so much in this case.
Thanks for the great video boys, a dream plane right there.
Thanks for watching.
Love your videos! Very informative, thanks for sharing!
Thanks,
Yes another great Video! I can only imagine you must of searched hi and low to find such a "Unicorn" as you called it. It is amazing that this aircraft is in such incredibly good/ Great condition. From exterior to interior it almost looks brand new. In reality I would suppose you either knew the owner and/or maybe he contacted you to have it featured? Either way, Nice vid.
This is the perfect 180 Mark.. thanks for sharing. Nice to see another superb, Skywagon University of Aeronautical Education video. 😁
Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad your back and safe from those fires. Excellent video as always.
Good to see you back, Mark. I suspected the fires might be preventing you from making vids.
Thanks. We are going to catch up and do more videos soon.
very cool Mark, love your channel - that girl looks amazing
Welcome back!
Welcome back
Now that’s a 180!!! Used to love flying in the Alaskan bush at tree top level in one of these...
Great planes.
The V-brace for the float kit is where the horn grows on these Unicorns. Always wondered what's best on these, the IO-470 with 260 hp or the PPonk 280 hp carb. engine.
Depends on if you live in an area with carb' ice issues.
330k is reasonable for a mission capable plane like that...very nice Mark
Welcome back.
Glad to have you back, safe and sound after what must have been a harrowing experience ‼️😩. Did you get to use your fire truck??
I wanted to use it and it was full but with so much heavy equipment around, I was last in line.
@@skywagonuniversity5023 Don't worry, I have a feeling you'll have occasion to use it in the coming years. Sorry to say.
Great aeroplane. Well except for those ugly tyres and big fin. :) I need some inspiration to get me over the last ten percent of my C180J referb. Mine had been on floats unfortunately. I love the green insides that comes with a float kitted a/c, but hate the ugly holes where a float strut had been attached. Love your videos. Thanks. The '74 C180, float kitted a/c still has the small fin, as I think you mentioned.
Keep going, 10% is not a lot.
Glad you're back! Great vid. Question: are you the or one of the owners of the airport? THX!
No, Placerville is a County owned airport.
Proper bush-plane with proper rubber on it - shame Mark couldn't quite get his leg up --- :)
850's are better for Captain Morgan
Great video Mark ! Could you show more about this plane ?
What else would you like to know?
Some good practice to keep your plane healthy to create a unicorn
So why don't we get any video of the Helicopter operation during fire season:-) ?
There was too much mayhem. 27 Choppers and their crews, everything changing so fast. Thick smoke and restrictions on the ramp, not to mention the crews were very busy too.
How does it compare to 220HP Franklin powered 175 ???
I’d love to know more about our early 60s 185s we used for transporting newspapers to country areas………very early models it seems.
Mark you make Buying on any Aircraft and I’m still looking forward to the 180s best highly performance Tailwheel Aircraft yet
Thank you.
I wondered what became of you. Juan Brown mentioned in one of his videos that the fire was headed your way. Cheers
You know, if you didn't have all those trees, that runway would look a heck of a lot like KSEZ. (Sedona)
It's true, it's on top of a hill.
Couple of months!!!!!!!! Like YEARS Mark!
Hi Mark, I just turned 66 and also am getting some money soon, so you have tempted me to finally get my PPL .. so, how much?
Mark in Maine
I think that you could safely learn to fly with everything for under $10,000.
@@skywagonuniversity5023 Thanks, well worth it, and that unicorn would make it a better experience too. Who finances such loans is my next quest.
Boy, I would like to know what the price was on that beauty. We are talking very late model/ almost new 172 prices I'm sure!!
That plane is a mere $299,000.
Beautiful bird, I have a ‘57 180 with a ponk. Amazing planes that still work hard in the Alaskan Bush
Very nice!
What would this be worth in 2022? 1/2? 3/4? More?
It's worth $300,000 right now.
Damm Good
Thanks
Is the plane for Sale?
Yes it is. It's on www.skywagons.com
And on the 6th day God created the Cessna 180 and he saw that it was good!
And on the 7th he rested............, but thought a bit about what it would be like with a 520 in it.
Seakings??? Really!!!! Sikorsky Seaking in civilian operations, WOW!!! That's a must see.......
Has this plane ever been on floats?
No it has never been on floats. Watch the video and you will see why.
Ha ha!
As my old Church Pastor used to say:
"Everyone wants to go to Heaven! BUT...... None of us want to die!"
That "Unicorn" is pretty rare indeed!"
It is very rare.
Dude, mute that phone. Every. Video. It. Goes. Off.
The one video we made where the phone didn't ring had people accusing me of using a body double for the video. It is the one way you know for certain you are getting the real McCoy.
Hey nice to see ya - sooooo what’s it worth ….? Yes I know it’s not for sale …😏
It is for sale. It is on www.skywagons.com
@@skywagonuniversity5023
Nice - deep pockets and short hands …
Plus I live at the bottom of the South Pacific.. a haven for such a beast 👍
It’ll go quick no doubt.
People need luck sometimes.
Yes they do.
Sorry I need one owner too! Quit trying to con everyone!
Ah, sorry. yes, two owners. :-)
Please, there is no “s” at the end of sierra. It’s already a plural noun that means snow covered mountains.
Yes, but except for the "s," how was the video? We hope you liked it.
@@skywagonuniversity5023 One of the likes is mine, thanks. Years ago I and apparently others told Juan Browne about his error (he was born in California and he’s something of a local newspaper reporter) and he now sometimes still catches himself saying the noun twice.
Give it up Bruce we ALWAYS say Sierras out West here! You just ain’t from around here!
@@blancolirio It seems like maybe it’s only the lesser-educated Trumpers. Ask your kids if they were taught the correct pronunciation. Better, ask your wife! You weren’t in the army but if you were like I was (a medium cargo helicopter company in Korea) you would have also learned the correct meaning of the word “troop“. It is misused about 95% of the time by reporters and journalists but there were only two Army soldiers among the 13 military members killed by the Kabul airport bomb so I didn’t hear one report calling them troops (like sierra, troop is already a plural, it means a group of Army soldiers) because 11 were Marines, one an Air Force airman (airwoman?), and one was a Navy sailor. During the Vietnam war I remember reporter/journalist/World War II army veteran Andy Rooney talking on TV about the missuse of the term troop. Every since I thought it was better to use the general term member (as in member of the military) because it covers all the branches.
@@bjs2022 I tried to join the Army. They found out my parents knew each other and wouldn't let me in. Plus, I was reluctant to marginalize people with different opinions than mine, recognizing that while smart, I don't know everything. But, I suppose it is easier to focus on the mistakes of others, than to examine and recognize your own, as evidenced by the many grammatical errors in your above paragraph.

Welcome, Asher! - Don
What an aggravating person.
Well luckily for me you are the second person ever out of hundreds of thousands of people to say anything as annoying as that so I will not change a thing.
@ce1168 My mother taught me civility and manners. Perhaps, if you have nothing nice to say, it would be better to say nothing at all.
