Like most major cities in the US, it depends where you are at. Their are good neighborhoods and bad ones. The area of what use to be Monument avenue (is it monument avenue anymore now that they took down a bunch of monuments?) is pretty safe. The gilpin court area? not so much. Schools are pretty bad in the city though, so if you have kids, and want to live in Richmond, look at private.

@CaptRR In the city, feelings of "safety" can vary from street to street. To make sure you're going to feel at home in your new neighborhood, try to spend some time walking around, sitting in coffee shops, talking with neighbors. You'll learn a LOT from observation and conversation.

I safely went all over Richmond Virginia for over a quarter century. Problems were at a minimum. It depends where you go Be alert.

I've lived in Richmond Virginia for 71 years. If we're talking about in the city of Richmond and your recommending this to the outsiders I couldn't disagree more. People on every block of every street asking for money and when you don't give it to him they cuss you out or throw trash and excrements at your windshield. It's a very racist city especially because of the mayor. Would not recommend this place in the city of Richmond to anybody even if I hated them. Totally disagree with this podcast. Have a nice day

71 years and this is the type of crime you’ve experienced? That’s a drop in the bucket compared to this countries many other cities that are racially divided too. RVA doesn’t seem that bad at all! Thanks for your input

You are 100% right. Richmond isn't safe at all. All the statues have been vandalized or taken down. Homeless is out of control. Even the Richmond Braves left lol. I really don't understand why anybody would say otherwise unless they had an alternative motive

And I thought they left because the city wouldn't build them a new stadium. :-) "Safety" is relative -- you will find plenty of places in the US with less crime than Richmond, and plenty with more. If you are considering a move to Richmond and are concerned about safety, make time to visit and talk to folks who live here -- they will give you the most objective, valuable insights.

@@MyBestLifeInRVAyou should try going to the bus station across the street from that stadium around let's say 10 pm and see how safe you feel. The homeless is so bad there. That's one of the reasons they wanted a new stadium truth be known. I have seen so much bad stuff in that area first hand but don't take my word for it look it up. Richmond was number 6 in a ranking of the 30 cities and counties with the most murders in the country . That's pretty bad sir
