@@Pahoe77 have lived in Western KS 90% of my life, and actually moved back here from KC last December, and yep, we are very familiar with the neglect Colorado has for anything east of Denver. I legit think they aren't even trying. When their legislature gets the requests for improvements from their Colorado DoT they all look at each other and laugh as they scratch red ink through the "Eastern section of I-70 infrastructure." And it has been this way for as long as I can remember.

If you are moving here to KC, something you should know that no one tells you, is that in some areas (I'm not sure how wide spread it is) the dirt has a very high clay content. Why does this matter? If you buy a home, you should know that the ground swells and shrinks A LOT. Nearly all of the homes in my area have to have piers installed to keep the foundation from sinking and breaking. This is extremely expensive. All drive ways and sidewalks eventually have to be replaced and or mud jacked. Also, working in the yard is awful because the dirt is either literally hard as concrete or very sticky. I have yard only shoes that I have to use a wire brush to get the mud off. I never understood how bricks could be made from clay until I moved here. I had a small clump of dirt soaking in a bucket of water for maybe 10 minutes and still couldn't break it up with my hands. I will never again buy a house where there is clay and plan to move largely because of it.

the KC road problem will never go away. There are a couple big reasons for that. 1, KC is in the middle of the country and a huge trucking hub and lots of trucks drive through there. Therefore, the roads take a beating from all the Big Semi Trucks. 2, KC lies in an area that it gets a lot of wet winter weather, many times it's kice, not snow. The ice hardens and separates the concrete and asphalt. lots of days where you get snow, it melts, re freezes. it's also a problem for basements if you don't' take care of your gutters. Gutter guards don't work. Humidity is really bad from June to August. worst than most people have ever dealt with. I'm used to it, I have lived north of the River my whole life and love it's rich history. I have also been through an F2 tornado. Very regular event. One other thing I have also hated as I am a car guy is the salt they use on the roads, it rusts cars bad. I also restore classic cars and they are hard to find that don't need a lot of rust repair. KC is a pretty good Pool (billiards), good food, best BBQ in the country, Car city, gotta have a car. WE cleaned the democrats out that were do nothings. Claire McCastle and rino Roy Blunt. We are in a much better place now. We need to get our mayor out. He's not really that great. KC has always had a great BMX, freestyle bmx, skateboarding and roller skating going on. lots of skate parks. Been lots of great freestyle riders in KC. Lots of off road motorcyling events, car events, fishing, hunting.

I have family and friends who live in Missouri, and love it. I admire the sense of directness and genuine nature of Missouri. I have been to Kansas City before, and I could devour that barbecue. You also have Caribou Coffee on both sides of the border. Awesome Coffee! I am 52 retired military, never married, college educated, and I have a career with FedEx. I want to get away from the liberalism, particularly after the George Floyd riots. Those people are actually going socialist, and I can't deal with the sense of entitlement gained from empowerment from them. I am conservative, but liberal in many ways. Just not outwardly direct about it. I admire the sense of directness and genuineness from Missouri people. I am tired of the passive/aggressive "Minnesota Nice" disingeuous character of Minnesota. @@howardg2435 Missouri ranks far worse than Minnesota in many categories, regardless of how you look at many things through a political lens. Missouri is a low wage wasteland, filled with many very very poor towns that have next to no infrastructure investment at all along with very bad drug abuse and dysfunction. Missouri also has very poor educational attainment outside of a few small wealthy suburban areas. I wouldn't prefer to live in Minneapolis itself either, but if moving to Missouri you have to expect that general expectations there are much lower, to go along with the low taxes/low wages model.

@@KS5040 Sorry I left you a couple days, but this is sad to read. It's also a sad reality for so much of the country. I realize I would stay in the Twin Cities, but the suburbs here. St. Paul is a better, safer place than Minneapolis for sure. I lived in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and it reminds me of much of what the tight knit social climate is in Missouri. Basically, unless you grew up there, you are an outcast that will not fit in. This man even mention a poor dating scene in Kansas City, and I could see a reflection of that statewide in Missouri. Much of the infrastructure left Missouri too, like the railroad companies. Two examples were Missouri Pacific and the Missouri Kansas and Texas, which were bought by Union Pacific. That is a hard blow financially to any area. I see the biggest thing driving people away really is the lack of educated people, and the fact that they have extreme socio/political views they see as traditional. That is on top of the drugs, crime, and violence. I see why places like Missouri are fly over states. that is very sad to see, and why it would be considered a low wage nightmare. I work for FedEx, and am able to keep my current wage rate, but I could see it going lower in Missouri. I hope they can fix things to attract people, but the education system has to be better funded somehow. That will take work, but Missouri needs to work on figuring that out. West Virginia is pretty much a dead state with nothing at all left. I hope Missouri does not go down the same path.

High sales taxes, earnings tax if you work in Kansas City, MO, high property taxes if you live in most of Johnson County due to the crazy high assessed property values. HORRIBLE weather most of the year, Bible Belt mentality as soon as you get out of the city in any direction. I moved to KCK 7 years ago. People are not very friendly and dating sucks. It's hard as a single adult, but I haven't made a single friend here. The humidity is on par with Boston, so it can be suffocating at times. It's moye affordable than Colorado, but I can't wait to move back. Or probably anywhere but here actually.
If you think the people are welcoming and friendly in KC, it's probably because you're from the coast where people are notoriously rude. People here are nice, but they aren't friendly. There's a difference.

I’ve lived in KC my whole life except one year in Boston: here are all my pluses and minuses.
    Minuses:
-Public transportation-nonexistent or you have to drive to get any.
-personal- because you barely cross paths with anyone you feel like you’re being stared at all the time because you prolly are. -sidewalks- straight up decoration no one used them and if you do you’re going to be getting stared at. -heat- the humidity never goes away and when it does extreme winters come.
-politics- it’s like you’re next to the state house every single day the amount of political talk and tension is intense.
-urban sprawl- 15 minute drive anywhere you go, no contact with people unless they are working for you, horrible drivers because everyone has to be on the road, intrusive highways and nothing but highways.
-Dangerous metro- feels very unsafe in most areas and with the relatively low metro population feels like you are getting stared at.
-getting stared at/eye contact-the eye contact when passing people is extremely personal and most people say something. It is welcoming and kind but definitely caught me off guard after being in NYC and Boston.
-housing quality- especially in comparison to the north east the housing quality is immaculate.
-Relationships- the strongest relationships form here but with urban sprawl once you’ve locked a friend group there is not a lot of deviation.
-privacy- with urban sprawl you can walk around your house naked and no one would know.
-sports- high school sports is way more competitive than most of the north at least above Boston. Also all of the sports teams in KC is quite nice.
-schools- seems like education on the Kansas side is superior to most other states/cities.
-Food- I mean it doesn’t get more diverse when it comes to cuisine.
Overview if you love the suburbs this is your place. If you love big cities this is not your place. If you’re unsure you’ll prolly like it but definitely notice things that are pretty impractical for a city design. I personally want to be in Brooklyn or Queens so it’s hard for me to not be biased towards urban sprawl or things of that nature.

  • @TheFallingGoat
    @TheFallingGoat 14 днів тому +1

KC is also RIPE with road ragers.
As an employer, new hires have a sense of entitlement to such an extreme as to refuse to abide the processes of learning skills and growing in a field, vastly different when compared to cities like st Louis, Tulsa, Dallas, or Indianapolis. 1:46
There are a LOT of faucets that spit black gunk out every time you turn them on. In businesses, in homes, apartments, and gas stations. 0:58
Very few people are open to new ideas or change. 9:39 which makes this "Midwestern friendliness" a bold lie. I've lived in a lot of different places around the Midwest, South, and North East of this country, and KANSAS CITY is by FAR the LEAST welcoming or friendly of all the places I've lived.
Theres also a really weird effect of people in the metro thinking they're somehow "more in touch" or better than those in the burbs (like lees summit, platte city, or blue springs) yet those who are further out than that feel this communal draw to the metro.
We also dont have ANY state parks anywhere near the city, so if you enjoy nature and space, the only space u will experience is the urban sprawl.
KC frequently touts its oh so progressive mindset, in such a conservative area. Lots of surrounding areas are full of conservative rural minds, and those in the city have this view of being the midwest version of Hollywood or Atlanta or Dallas, but they actually don't offer any of the benefits or opportunities as those places they liken themselves to.

    • @KS5040
      @KS5040 10 днів тому +1

Agree 100%, there are many reasons why the Kansas City metro area is a huge economic laggard compared to much more dynamic and innovative metro areas in other parts of the country. Locals generally despise change, and there is a very large amount of apathy, complacency, and mediocrity. It could be the low energy effect due to the obesity epidemic there along with other factors. Throw in the state line which really hinders economic cooperation, terrible weather most of the year, cliquish unfriendly people, and rather high taxes- there's most of the reasons why many people prefer to move elsewhere. The "good enough" mentality is also why high achieving younger people head for the exit doors elsewhere as fast as they can.

I moved to KCK from KCMO and I think KCK is MUCH better! No trash piled up on the streets or graffiti like Mo side and the people are much friendlier. I think it's more culturally diverse also. Taxes are higher but you can see the tax money at work. I personally wouldn't go back to the Mo. side. No matter how much crap I get from friends and family on the Mo side lol

The main problems here for me as just a normal poor guy working in a warehouse making 23$ per hour. 1. Its super easy to get jobs, BUT even with a good paying job its hard to find an affordable place to live. 1 bedroom apartment rent is over 1000$ and mortages are around 250k on Zillow atleast. Even 23$ an hour has me living check to check with zero savings and barely able to keep my bank account positive. And 2. Almost every stoplight intersection in the city has a couple homeless people begging for money and yelling at cars that drive by....most of which being meth heads cause we have multiple meth capital sub-cites within KC. So basically its hard to afford a home of any kind unless ur a doctor, lawyer, tech guy, etc that makes big time money. If ur a normal lower middle class peasent u are screwed

We loved our time in Kansas. We literally knew all our neighbors, cost living seemed cheap, and not a lot of traffic. Great food, good people.
We’re considering to retire there. Johnson county FTW!

!! I don’t know if anyone manages this pages comments, looks like I might get lucky on this page!.. but my family and I are looking to move very close to this area for my husbands work. This city and a couple other towns around it popped up. I was wondering how racially accepting this area is? That is probably my biggest fear coming from a VERY small but pretty diverse town in Ohio. Looking at the demographics doesn’t always give super accurate data. We are a blended family, and have kids who are white to dark black. We are every color in between. Would this area fit us in? Olathe, Blue Springs, Grain Valley to name a few that came up.

Appleton, WI/Green Bay metro area close to the Nicolet National Forest and hundreds of lakes nearby. Duluth, MN, a metro area on the shores of Lake Superior, with National Forest and lakes everywhere. Of course, there is Milwaukee and Madison, Milwaukee being on Lake Michigan, and Madison being on an isthmus, surrounded by Lake Mendota and Lake Monona. Cost of living in most of those are similar or a bit more than KC, but they are generally smaller metro areas. I'm not a fan of larger populated areas.

Again, i lived in Mississippi, this is nothing. The roads? They're horrible. I had to buy new wheels last year because they were bent and/or cracked. The potholes are terrible and they're everywhere. On the upside though, my daughter absolutely loves all the parks and fountains. KC does seem to be more family friendly than most places ive lived.

And what is wrong with Kansas City? It's not any worse than any other city in the country. Not as big as say New York City, Chicago, Dallas or LA but what the heck to me they are way too big. I lived in Johnson county most of my life but my family and I moved to Linn county in 1990 and boy howdy it's about as trilling as ? We moved because we needed a larger house because there were six of us at the time. But two moved out and three have died. One of the two came back and now my brother and I are all that's left. We're seniors. God bless.
