Man, i am so happy to see this back. I've been a fan since i was a kid myself. Onimusha is what got me into samurai games in general. I'm just hype to see the return of this goated series.
Onimusha 2 was the first game I owned for the ps2 (I was probably in the 1st or 2nd Grade😂) and I was instantly hooked on the series ever since. This return to a beloved franchise is much appreciated.
Whatever they do, I hope they don't get rid of Issens and the screen flash. Dawn of Dreams is my favorite because of Ohatsu and I like Zelda/Metroidvania mechanics of needing the right ability. Visions of Mana and Dragon Age: The Veilguard are the two biggest examples recently.
It's most likely is going to play DMC 5 with possible on the fly weapon changes to make combos but just a little slower to let the sword play show more but have the flow of the RE remakes to maintain those similarities that we already loved to make it lore heavy
Its possible the main character could be Miyamoto Musashi if Netflix special is canon. He was the last known Oni in the Edo period and with how that description describes him, it sounds like it could be him.
In one scene in the trailer it looked like the Samurai with the Oni Gauntlet did a Contextual Kill, like an Obliteration technique from Ninja Gaiden to one of the Genma Oni's. You can see what looks like the head being decapitated.
@10XSeiga Cause it's been 20 years since the last one and if you're gonna revive an IP, you gotta reinvent some things. And soulslikes are stupid popular right now.
Onimusha is more grounded, at least first 3 games. No fast speed combat like in Devil May Cry, that's the reason why people loved that game, it's pretty simple, Onimusha is Resident Evil with Edo Period Samurai vs demons show down. Nothing like Souls like and nothing like Ninja Gaiden.

My original comment was more so If it were to take combat inspiration from any other game, I would prefer a Ninja Gaiden esq game for example than a Soulslike. The best options would either be a complete original revision of the combat or go full circle and basically do a RE game but with Samurais again and have it play like the RE remakes or something.
His character model (and rights) was based on a certain actor and Capcom probaly thought it's not worth the effort the renegotiate with him to appear for the new title. Even just as a cameo

I have a feeling it’s gonna be a dark soul game just the look of it hopefully it’s not. If it’s like Ghost of Tsushima then I’ll be fine. This is probably a reboot or focused somewhere in a prequel.
It needs to play like resident evil. Lets hope its not completely soulslike. If tgeres some countering like sekiro, thats fine, but if its completely like a souls game... no
Please don't mixed up "ONI" and "GENMA", enemies are Genma, Oni is good faction in the game. This is a good chance for Capcom to do their soulslike. I hope the difficulty will as hard as NIOH, but stamina just used for defensive like in Wukong.
This is Onimusha not Assassin creed , if u played the original games you'd know this is a series more close to Devil may cry than anything else , modern tropes like open world would just do it a deservice .

Stop it...Dawn of Dreams was terrible. Completely messed up what Onimusha was prior just like Tenchu 4 messed up what made Tenchu great and the same thing with Dino Crisis 3 messed up what 1 & 2 did correctly. Nobody asked for that garbage
@chrismarcou8978 I'm open to a larger world but like you said open with puzzles. Missions it really depends on how the missions are like are you getting stuff to unlock access to new areas and progress the game or are you just collecting random common items that are useless to the story and or you're gear/stats

I prey theres no mission based levels like dawn of dreams, give us a small open world with puzzle solving like the original.

I really dont want it to be a soulslike. Give me something more Ninja Gaiden. I think that would be a better fit. Excited regardless.

The Oni are the ones who bestow the gauntlent to battle the Genma. The main character is battling the Genma not the Oni.*Pushes up glasses*

I hope this is a reboot and I hope they reboot soul reaver. With the remasters that came out I have high hopes it will finally be happening.

I think it may have a blend of devil may cry and God of war. Combos like DMC and the weight/impact of God of War.

That was my thoughts exactly. True, this year's game award was much better in terms of announcements, but most of them were for 2026 or beyond.

Missions it really depends on how the missions are like are you getting stuff to unlock access to new areas and progress the game or are you just collecting random common items that are useless to the story and or you're gear/stats
