One of my favorite quotes about identity politics is from Civil RIghts Veteran, Marixst, Feminist leader Angela Davis: _"I have a hard time accepting diversity as a synonym for justice. Diversity is a corporate strategy. It’s a strategy designed to ensure that the institution functions in the same way that it functioned before, except now that you now have some black faces and brown faces. It’s a difference that doesn’t make a difference"._
Appreciate how you questioned Taimur on his stance on China. I loved it. Going by his logic, you talking about Baloch human rights means you're anti-Pakistan because you're acknowledging Pakistan's doing something wrong.
This was an engaging and thought-provoking discussion. I also noted the book references for further research. I'm generally ignorant about economics, but I was triggered by Shahram's repeated reference to "decisions about surplus." My interest lies in philosophy and cultural worldviews, and how these shape a society. Of course power and money play a significant role here, and even more so in an age where intellectual and cultural elites that rise above material influences are destroyed, and where materialistic distractions and temptations are multiplied, and general moral training is absent. I believe that a society requires surplus wealth to develop an intellectual class, and that this is the most important development required for a healthy society. The concept of patronage and waqf was an important feature of premodern cultural education. Shahram’s comment reminded me of the following words from an important official document of the British colonial authority in India. It is part of a report from 1807, and it should alert us about the source of intellectual and cultural decay in our society and its remedy. “It is very proper, that in England, a good share of the produce of the earth should be appropriated to support certain families in affluence, to produce senators, sages, and heroes for the service and defense of the state, or, in other words, that a great part of the rent should go to opulent nobility and gentry, who are to serve their country in Parliament, in the army and navy, in the departments of science and liberal professions. The leisure, independence, and high ideals, which the enjoyment of this rent affords, has enabled them to raise Britain to pinnacles of glory. Long may they enjoy it; - but in India, that haughty spirit, independence, and deep thought, which the possession of great wealth sometimes gives, ought to be suppressed. They are directly averse to our power and interest... We do not want generals, statesmen, and legislators; we want industrious husbandmen.” - William Thackeray (civil servant, judge and translator), in report on Malabar, Canara, and the Ceded Districts (Aug 4, 1807) for the Governor of Madras, Lord William Bentinck (who would later, as Governor-General of India, appoint Macaulay to settle the education debate)
@@ThePakistanExperience The quote is basically saying that extra wealth allows a nation to support cultural and intellectual development by financing certain people who don't have to worry about their income, but will focus on their intellectual activity or some other skill. In relation to India, it is saying that Indians should not have extra wealth and they should always be kept in a state where they are focused on basic needs, so they have no space for development beyond material needs. This will make them useful labouring slaves for the empire.
@@ThePakistanExperience I was actually supporting Shahram's statement. May be you misunderstood me. Shahram pointed out the importance of who makes decisions about surplus, and I'm also showing that the British understood the iportance of surplus on a national scale, and deprived India of those resources. In fact, the cultural and educational support given by the British was to implant a foreigh and superficial culture on Indians, and this produced a schizophrenic mentality.

I think that's not what he meant, his analysis(or rather I should say fear) is that western media manipulates in the garb of being independent and unbiased whereas they are privately owned propaganda machines and their HISTORY confirms their mischievous exaggeration of the facts to create political space for their state to exploit the parts of the third world. This has continuously happed and could happen.
@@abhigupta999 see, it's not like that there is only one kind of voice from West .. there are thousands of left leaning academics who express their views openly against their govts in the west. I am willing to live under such western democracy who might be against my interest 'supposedly' then to live under an authoritarian govt who works for my interest 'supposedly'.

I honestly believe, I started learning more here and some other relevant UA-cam channels than any university class I have attended.
Dr.Taimur is very well read and intelligent but he is also quite ‘belligerent’😳
Shahram and Shehzad come across as the more mature, wise 🙏🏽
im sorry for commenting something irrelevant but shahram is so fcking handsome
Who is here to listen to this podcast in 2024 ?
(May be in bits and pieces) unlike capitalist and free economy which has delivered. Something like changes in modern day philosophy which has moved towards experimental philosophy unlike last few century old philosophy because with the rise of Theoretical Physics which has given Theory of Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, String theory, Theory of Evolution, which has delivered solid results.
How to take Tariq Ali,Shahram and Dr Taimoor in one podcast🤔🤔🤔
Incredible!
Amazing!!!

Really superb. I am really surprised Pakistan has superb intellectual s.
Shehzad stop using qaum e youth so much that it loses its seriousness. Many disgruntled former pti walas are turning back to sense. Meanwhile great info about budget Shehram 👍
@@ThePakistanExperience point hai boss.
v good discussion
Kya bhai , most of your episodes on Marxism and left politics.. Please do podcasts on other issues like unemployment, culture, education etc...

Jab mil bethay teen khoobsurat log.
02:15:41 oh, this happened to my channel as well. Umayr here
How i missed this episode 🫣
Thank you, Shehzad. I learned a lot about Marxism and Left from this discussion.
In the end professor Taimoor seemed very angry though. 😂
Personal freedom question was dodged .. on the contrary justification was presented. Not OK. And Dr. shaheb believes CGTN...........! If India becomes Communist State, he will defend us on Kashmir .. something to think about.
Piyaray Sir Taimur.. air Handsome Shahram..
Exactly Alternative news.
Dr Taimur ko naraz ku kar dia bhaai.. haha.. anyway it was more entertaining and informative than any thing available on Netflix.. Keep up the good work Shahzad!
Where did he annoy Dr Taimur?
Identity politics ka sawal gol kar gaye dr saab. Highly disagree with Dr Taimur's analysis of identity politics, a lot of cherry picking of history, but i do agree with his prescription of engaging in working class politics.
Socialist candidate India B. Walton has been elected the Mayor of Buffalo, USA. Does it has anything to do with the Communists? Sir, please explain her political position.🙏🙏
For neocolonialism, look up law of unequal exchange
Teimur, Please apply the same logic that you apply for China to Kashmir. This duplicity shows the reason why Pakistani intellectually are helping take Pakistan to the dump.
Maalik ab itne Marxists aa gaye hain to Professor Zizek ko bhi bula hi lo (Reference to bandya meme). Zara ideology ko uncover kiya jaaye.
@@ThePakistanExperience My gott, don't belittle yourself. Koshish karne waale ko kabhi haar nahi hoti. Kuch try karen. Wo to har channel par hi aa jaate hain khushbu laga ke zara pyaar se bulyen.
@@ThePakistanExperience Bilkul. Koshish hi kar sakta hai insaan. Baki Zizek ki marzi. Actually Zizek aur Chomsky ka lafda bhi chal raha tha. Agar yeh dono ek platform par aa jayen to ww3 in 21st century intellectual discourse ho jaaye. It would be like Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Ideology.
Love you sirs from india ❤

Marriage of red n green mashallah inshallah.
39:34 Excellent Parody 😂😂😂😂
I agree with Taimur sir on basically everything lol.

At last .. Dr. shaheb was giving justification on the basis of historical contexts .. It reminds me of the Mullah's argument that before Islam people were burying their daughter alive .. so don't ask us to give rights to women today bec. historically we were the first to give them rights... etc. etc.
Now, that is absent in China's case. So, even if it's a capitalist propaganda .. they are not crushing other viewpoints in their society. I am willing to live under such western democracy who might be against my interest 'supposedly' then to live under an authoritarian govt who works for my interest 'supposedly'.
Listening after shahram recent podcast again we want new and old Marxism podcast
🙌
We live in a society where we have dream jobs, that is dreams of being labour to someone else.
Watching this episode was super fun . When I listen to Marxist lecturer in countries where Marxism has not come to power and I see them talking about freedom , empathy , liberation , logic etc , i feel like becoming an Marxist . But when I see countries where Marxist’s have come to power , I see a very different Marxism whose deeds are similar to fascists ! Very informative podcasts 💚!!
Please its an requst please invite abhijit iyer or sushant sareen on india pakistan future please

After one year these debaters must be scratching their heads after watching PDM disastrous govt.

Arey bhai....were you there to see hitler do all his crimes? 😂 Jaha new york times mitha lage gup gup....jaha new york times khataa lage thu thu...classic 😂...all white supremacy people say the same about Hitler's media coverage..it's all over exaggerated!
