Thank you so much. This video was well done and it was easy to understand the repair process. I just was able to change out the trunk switch on my 2011 Cruze. The part cost me $26 dollars off of amazon. I’m excited! Thank you!
Awesome Video - Thank you Sir. 1.75 hour and done - Piece of cake due to your You-tube Video - I ended up having to drill out all 4 screws for the lenses due to northeast driving areas with all the snow, salt, brine, ice, and just nasty weather but still a quick repair. Most Excellent.
Good video,i just did mine thx to this video, would suggest that people wanting to do replacement should look at screws for lights before attempting job, mine were rusted bad and took me along time to remove screws after they broke, would suggest a new/different chrome piece too
Hey thanks, I only use genuine GM parts in my vids wherever possible and always give the part numbers. For a few parts I can recommend rockauto.com, and happy to add a pointer to them in the future. But they don't carry alot, the rest you have to hoof it where links don't last like eBay and your local Chevrolet dealer parts websites.
@@DrShock I actually use rockauto as well. I spent a little time looking for this particular part and came up with so many diff pieces it was hard to know which to get. Some were as cheap as $3 and others closer to $50. Then it's the issue of finding exactly what I need for this particular job.
Is there a way you can send a link or something so I know exactly what part to get? I looked this up a while back and had all kinds of options. I wanna buy what you suggested ( the whole set up, not just the switch) but having trouble knowing what it will be called or which parts it is exactly when trying to locate it myself.
The eBay search link in the description is for the genuine GM part numbers, you can buy them anywhere (including your local Chevrolet dealer) and get exactly what I show in this video. Just note there are two part numbers GM has here. There is a version with and a version without the license lamp housings included and I give both numbers out. In the video I show the exact GM number I used (95270499) which was the one that included the new lamp housings. You'll likely find alot of clones and third party copies of these parts but I can only recommend going with the genuine GM part. It won't matter what seller you use as long as its the genuine GM part in the original GM branded packaging. I saw there was a typo of the part number in the description link so I fixed that but it was correct in the video. I'm thinking that was what caused the confusion, thanks for writing about it so I could correct it.
FYI, this Cruze does not have a backup camera. The ones that do (like mine) have a completely different 10-wire / 10-pin connector that does not look like this at all. If you buy the cheapy release kits off The Zon for $15-20....they have a 4-wire / 4-pin connector that will not work. I learned the hard way, so you don't have to!
next time assemble everything on your chrome bezel and then put it back on. And install your grommet through. Like that you won't have a hard time. just a thought thank you for the video.
@@antmel7243 The trim here is plastic, not metal. I've done this on a few more Cruzes since as its a common repair and its never a hard time doing it the way I've shown, never a scratch either. But find the approach that you're most comfortable with.
Is there an inside trunk lid release I can use by going through the back seat to release it? None of my other options (key fob, inside button or outside manual releases) wirk to open the trunk? Thanks!
If the trunk opens randomly, maybe as the same switch corrosion could be shorting in the open position. But there is this service bulletin from GM too - static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2014/MC-10135230-9999.pdf which just changes it so you have to click twice to open it.
Not economically possible really to do component level repair here, it's a micro switch that is not designed to be serviced but instead recycled. If you forced the sealed switch housing open, there are no replacement parts available to address the internal damage. Anything you would do otherwise would be temporary, as once you open the switch housing you've exacerbated the internal corrosion. If you're tight on cash, it would be better to take a voltmeter to a local LKQ salvage yard and pull a working used one for $5-$10.
The inside trunk handle was reinstalled upside down.
Good catch, yes the black inside pull down handle should be reversed to the position shown in the beginning of the video. Thanks for the point out!
😊

My mother just locked her keys in the trunk and this video just saved her. Thanks!

Thank you! Your movie has helped me a lot to replace it all in my 2009 Cruze ;)
Thanks very much. Parts ordered and job complete. Thanks for providing the part numbers.

I have a 2014 Cruze LTZ and this same thing happened to me. What a pain in the butt buts it’s very easy
thank you for making this video
Can you offer links in description for parts on future videos? Would make it an easier DIY.

Appreciate it, bud.

That's what I was thinking I could feel the scratches being made on the trunk at the 16 minute mark

There's is one of those glow in the dark manual release handles on the inside trunk lid yes.
@@DrShock Thanks a lot...whewwwww!
My boot apens randomly, I've taken my batteries out of both keys but still opens, do you think changing this part will fix it?

Mines opens once in a while anyone know how to fix it
But how to repair it , not replace it

Super tedious. Don't pull the pins out all the way jeez.
