not just a great help, but also in a manner with great humor and attitude. if you are coming ever to Zagreb International, Croatia, a couple of beers and a coffee is on me !! Big Thanks
Best video about this issue on UA-cam. I have one TIP: if you are changing only trunk button, you don't have to dismantle whole trunk. You can pull out broken button with a screwdriver from the outside. Than you can cut the wires and connect them with new button using wire connector and you are done. I did it this week and it worked perfectly. Saved me a lot of time
Simply phenomenal video, this is perhaps the greatest repair walkthrough I have EVER watched. Side note for people with 2013 Cruze's, there is a hard epoxy/glue that seals the button in. Use a blade to slowly remove as much glue as you can, the more the better. Pour boiling hot water over the remaining glue to soften it as much as possible. Then use a hammer to tap it out. Thank you Drive By Reviews for this extremely helpful and entertaining guide!
It's been 3 years since you posted this but I want to thank you because what would of cost me probably 100.00 at the garage only cost me 18.00 for the parts and tools. THANK YOU SO MUCH you were so easy to follow! God Bless =)
Great tutorial, may try it myself one day. It's amazing how badly they screwed up the trunk on this car, every single Cruze has this issue. Car handles should be mechanical anyway, heck with that electronic touch crap.
This was by far the easiest repair I've done. I have 12' eco cruze and had trouble finding the replacement until i saw this video. Auto part stores tried selling me the cable at $80 and it didn't include lights with bulbs, and you had to splice it... Good job Drive By!!
Dan Hart amazing how much they try to upcharge us. One of the best benefits of the cruze is the "cheap repair costs" but it never seems remotely cheap when retail!
I live in the PNW too. The rubber seal on the top and bottom of the trim piece were corroded when I took the whole thing out so I’m assuming that’s why water was getting in and caused the light and button to stop working. I took it to the dealer and asked if they could replace it and the guy didn’t fix it and sarcastically wrote in the notes “maybe try pushing harder, could not duplicate trunk not opening” so that made me mad and I just spent $10 for the part to do it myself. Didn’t take very long. I put some silicone around the edges that will hopefully keep the water out and it won’t happen again. Works like new again. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the video. I was wondering about your comment on sealing the area so the switch doesn't fail again. Did you make a video on that? or can you tell me what to do?
hey dude thanks a lot. My Cruze is currently in the dialer for diagnosis of this and a few other electrical issues. If they can fix it cheap, then I will let them. but if they come up with a few hundred dollars, I just learned how from you for free. Just need the switch, which is easier to get than the Radio display. Which is also out. Share the love and drink your Sake!
Thanks man for this. My chevy dealer wanted 100 euros for this replacement kit and then i saw your video. 6 euro from eBay. btw great video. i’ve loved it.
Thanks for the easy to follow instructions. I bought the tools for clips and the part from Amazon for cheap. Only suggestion would be a little more description about removing the clips. Mine were two piece and the center had to come out first. This is the first time I had seen this style. Thanks again
wow...well thanks. The dealer wanted $300 to fix this 2 years ago on my 2011 Cruze and i just said nah im good. No idea I could get the part for $20 on amazon and do it myself or i'd have done the shit months ago. THANK YOU! lmao
Thanks man helped a lot ! but I accidently broke one of the plastic that holds the bolt at 3:49 trying to pull the cable from underneath it 3 of them is enough to hold it tho . finally don't need to stop the car and open the trunk with the key
I found these instructions very helpful. The main problem I found were the license plate tag lamp unit screws were a bugger to get off, since over time, they rust and you can't get a proper grip on the screw.
Great video, had me laughing. Just knocked out my 2012 Cruze LT truck switch after watching. I bought the part maybe 2 years ago, just never got around to doing it. I did have to use an adhesive on the black rubber strip on the top of the chrome trim.
God love Google... was checking fuses and plugs to make sure they were plugged in tight n this was the first vid I seen so I watched... gonna pick up a switch tomorrow. Didn't know it was common on these cars or that I even had a switch until I asked a buddy yesterday. Picked the car up few weeks ago... But brooo.... hurt me when u put that trim back on and didn't even wipe off that dirt dude.. Hahaha. Nice vid bro 👍 saved me fucking around trying to find fuses that aren't blown. Hahaha
saved me some money :) for 2013 Cruze, there will be some hardened glue on the switch, just gently remove it with a small flathead, not a big deal :) thanks for this :)
Great video. My Buick Regal trunk probably has the same issue. Won’t open unless using my remote. I would love to try it if I have so many tools or a handy boyfriend 😂
My trunk button don’t work either, but I really came here to see if you could get to the license plate bulbs. My car is from Washington by the ocean and all four screws are stuck and we tried 3 dif screw extractors and all we did was make it worse 😂 but it seems Iam use your video to replace the damn lights lol so thank you
you forgot to add the chrome piece that attaches to the trunk. the 4 screws that hold the licence plate lamps in place were so badly rusted i could only get 2 out even after soaking in wd40 for 3 days.
This is only on the 2014 and earlier models? Which year was this one? Any chance of doing a similar video on the 2015 Chevy Cruze LT? Finding no info on it at all. David in Tucson
Luckily it's pretty simple! If you want to seal it take your sealant of choice (ex. silicon sealant), completely clean the housing for the button before installing, after installing cover the entire backside of the installed button with sealant, also cover the exposed button on the outside of the car with sealant including the edges so no water can permeate.
I have a 2018 Chevy Sonic LS, Whenever I try to open the truck with the button inside, it won't open. But, If use the button on the remote or outside trunk switch, it opens. So, Is a fuse or does the inside button needs replaced? (Haven't taken it to the dealership or a independent repair shop)
Just did this today (both P057C error code and my trunk lid switch were broken). I didn't find any videos but it's simple to do, only one bolt - 7mm. All you need is a wratchet and a flashlight. Unhook the connector, wrangle the bolt out of the old one, pull it out (has a pin holding it on one side, the position yolk on the other) and put the new one in its place. Then put the bolt back in and plug it in. Oh, and the part is like $7 on amazon: a.co/6iRR7mt
hey mate, i know that the video is quite old, but im about to et my chevy cruze that already has faulty trunk switch :D i guess that if you alreay havent made the video about the sealing, then you wont film it at all. So can you share me some link or something about that insulation since the mechanicks that i asked know nothing about it and if it's already broke (the guy that is selling me is trying to convince me that the button never worked and i know that's a lie :D), it will break again probably very soon. Thanks, cheers!
I never did seal it and it's been fine, but I moved to texas where there is much less rain. basically just cover the inside button area when you install it with any easy tubed sealant. You just need to keep the back area sealed.
Hey man, my trunk release isn’t working and I was in the process of replacing it myself but found that the switch is actually already factory sealed. Do you think it’s still an issue with the switch or could there be another reason for the issue? Thanks!
if it works with the fob and not with the switch pretty sure it's the switch. cheapest step at that point is to just replace. also... factory sealed? mine was stock. I don't think Chevy seals it.
@@DriveByReviews the switch I ordered actually came in today so I went ahead and replaced it anyway cause it was definitely the switch. Im the only owner of the car so it def came sealed from factory but it’s all fixed. Thanks for the tutorial bro!
Hey Sara, I know I'm 10 months late but I just replaced mine. I used a razor blade to slowly remove a little glue at a time, then poured boiling water over the remaining glue to soften it, and finally just hammered it out.
I've replaced the trunk switch on my 2011Chevy cruise but neither the key fob or manual trunk release works.when I push the key fob release the rear lights blink..help
Yeah just did mine and it was sealed with some type of silicone. Still didnt prevent it from breaking though. I just used a hammer with a flathead to smack it all out.
I know they put the sealer there to manage the water path. Without it, you may get shortened life of the components, especially if you live in a place that has cold winters. The dealer would not attempt to perform a handle replace when i asked them, fearing they would break the trim piece, definitely not going to replace the entire trim piece as it is too expensive. How was your repair afterward?
I just did this to my 2013 there was a glob sealed on the back of the button. I also sealed in the new light housings. Getting the old one off took a lot of time with knife, and boiling water but I got everything out clean. 2 of my 4 screws on old lights came out, the other 2 broke off. Attempted to drill out the remainders of the screws but just ended up heating the metal and pushing it through. Will be replacing with 4 brand new screws, possibly machine with nuts tomorrow. (somehow I don't have any on hand that size of the 999999999 screws here). How much to replace that trim piece? I feel if I have to do this again in 3-4 years I might just replace the trim piece instead of trying to get off the silicone, but I didn't glob the f out of it like it was before...
Thanks for this helpful video. This just happened to my 2011 Cruze. I'm going to attempt to fix it myself, if all fails... I will trade it in for a new car. 😉
Drive By Reviews yeah we tried that. We took the batteries out of the fobs at the same time and the trunk still would pop open by itself. I ordered the part under the #95270497 for $44. It seems like the part you got is #95107229 but it seems to be out of stock or discontinued anywhere I look.

Thanks for the video very professional. I'd love to see how to seal off the trunk space to avoid moisture and rust.
Great video finally one that shows how to change the button

Awesome Video!
Thank you a lot great job bro
Nice gonna be replacing mine soon
Did you do the sealant video!?!
hah I never did, now drive a 124 spider 🕷

Thanks so much for this video!
What can I do if the trunk deck lid does not open at all no matter if trying the key fob, in-car button or outside latch release? Thanks!
Step #5 Take the Cruze to the body shop for an estimate to repair the paint damage from the liner.

I have a 2013 Cruze. Can you use the replacement parts from amazon even though the 2013 has a back-up camera?
is this same as orlando to my button dont work and does not have trunk release on key
awesome guy very helpful video
My Switch and fob works but the trunk light does not. Tried a new bulb still no light. Don't see a plunger switch. Any tutorial on that?

And thank you for a great video that helps me a lot to
What do I do if the button on the key and car doesn’t work?
I did this & the lights turn on but my trunk release button doesn’t work. Could it be the fuse?
My girlfriend has the same car but the trunk will not close. It that a switch problem as well?
You are the best.
Thank you .....
might this solve my trunk spontaneously opening every so often (weekly or more )
David May that's my problem too
Mines won't open either from key or button

where did you get the wiring harness for doing this? StealerShip aka (dealership)

Yeah done it but the problem now is the remote to open the trunk does not work as before. Need help.
That shouldn't have anything to do with the switch or the replacement you purchased. Probably have a loose or damaged wire somewhere.
Ryan Jacoby my remote works again thank God maybe it took time to initialize.
Skid Row glad to hear!
Lets get drunk after the works ✅🍺🍺🍺🍺
2013's you cannot perform this repair. They Sealed the switch with a hardened sealer.

Would having a faulty trunk button allow the trunk to randomly pop open on it's own? That's the problem I'm having now.
RyanMiller3039 yes it can, although you should check the fob button isn't getting hit in your pocket.
Drive By Reviews yeah we tried that. We took the batteries out of the fobs at the same time and the trunk still would pop open by itself. I ordered the part under the #95270497 for $44. It seems like the part you got is #95107229 but it seems to be out of stock or discontinued anywhere I look.
BE ADVISED: BE SURE TO PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT WITH A BACK UP CAMERA IF YOU HAVE ONE ALREADY
You have not addressed the fact that there is no release switch inside this vehicle.
Just fold down the back seat, crawl in, pull the glowy thing and voala!
Step one should have been take a shot of sake!

Why he throw it tho😂😂😂😂
I like to make it rain

don,t you mean put the "nuts" back on and not the bolts. the bolts stay on the trim piece.
