My q5 has an issue where on a random morning it just wont restart. could the fuel filter be letting in air? because after i use vcds to run the fuel pump it does start back up.
Hi. I watched a UK video and he turned the ignition on for 10 seconds and then off for 3 times to prime the filter. This should be ok right as i have no computer thing.
Cory, great video. Question? I don't have the access to a VCDS, I have read that I can prime the system by toggling the start button 3 or 4 times without actually starting the engine. Thoughts?
You need the pump to run sustained for 30+ seconds. The key cycling won't run the pump enough to do this. With the money you'll save doing ONE fuel filter yourself you could afford a VCDS - or even a VAG-II tool which I believe has the feature!
Glad I found you! '14 Q5 TDI with 150k miles. Replacing the fuel pump now (and have the VDCS). Replaced the upper control arms last night and will tackle the lowers next week. Any chance you know if there is adequate clearance to replace the accessory belt w/o having to remove the electric fans or other parts for clearance? Thanks
For an Audi Q5 CPNB, there are two DIFFERENT clamps on the Fuel Filter. The clamp towards the front of the vehicle is a Mubea MU16 Constant Tension Space Saver Clamp (VAG P/N: 4B0422379) and the one at the back of the filter is a Mubea MU14.5 Constant Tension Space Saver Clamp (VAG P/N: N90986501). You can get both parts easily from any VW/Audi dealership. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE WITH CRAP CLAMPS!
@@meshark_t if you are looking for an online source, they are both available from FCP Euro. Search the VAG Part Number from the Search Field. Otherwise, call the dealer with the Part Number. I don't believe both will cost more than $5 USD total.
The VW/Audi erWin Service Manual warns of the potential for catastrophic engine damage if you do not prime the Fuel System properly. The price of this one service at a Dealership will justify your VCDS purchase. This is a buy once, cry once situation. I cried over a decade ago and am all smiles ever since. 😉👍
You don't need a computer to prime the tank. It's a self priming system. Just switch the ignition on for a couple of minutes whilst you do the covers up, and then start the engine.
Some vehicles *DO* self prime, but this is not one of them. If you turn on the ignition the pump in the tank only runs for a split-second, it will not run continuously.
Lmao so the obvious point when no fuel is in the mechanical pump which is libricated by constant diesel (because the the fuel takes ATLEAST a solid 15-20 seconds to saturate a new filter) is the problem. It’s can cause metal shavings and ruin both fuel pump since it’s a fuel loop. Good for you on having a job tho!
Great video… Question… do I have to use the computer to prime the fuel filter? Could I just do the replacement and just turn on the car normally like the old cars? If not could you tell me why? Thank you very much
No actually some models won’t do this! The VW/Audi TDIs won’t run the fuel pump long enough for this to occur. When the key is turned it only runs for a split second to get pressure back up.

Excellent video. How often should the fuel filter be changed?
Every 20 K miles

@@idparts can I use OBDELEVEN to get this task done? Thanks
@@rafff09you can. I use a OBD for mine.
Its the same Fuel Quality whenn you chance the fuel filter?
I didn't see you pinch the fuel line from the tank to stop the flow while the fuel filter is disconnected. Is this not necessary?

Note - unless the dealer replaced this at 37k miles, I'm still on the original fuel filter at 150k miles. Knock on wood, no issues that I'm aware of.
would pre-filling the new filter with fuel suffice and avoid the need for VCDS?
No
What size the clamps are, if need the new ones.

Can you start car without priming pump? I don’t have that diagnostic tool you have..
Ty nice video
dont do it

Thanks for letting me realize that although easy, I’m not equipped or experienced so my tech will get paid to do this one😹🏁
Thank you very much for the tutorial !!
Great video...please consider wearing eye protection Corey!
Thanks! Will do!

Not according to a very great many chat forums. Most people say it needs priming to avoid pressure from damaging lines.
@@miipaI've done loads of them. Never had to prime and never had a come back.
