This from the company that couldn't even bother to do a widescreen remaster of Super Mario 64 for the big anniversary, so they just left it in fullscreen.
The Metroid series is a series I can always come back with something to look forward to. With most of the games having a level of quality built around them and how different it feels from other Nintendo IPs. Nintendo has always had a friendly friendly image so it is refreshing to see something a bit more mature. With Mario games being too generic for my tastes, Zelda games being hit and miss and Pokémon missing that nail of quality. Love this. Love it. Genuinely! But you gotta make more of these games accessible to Switch owners if you don't want unofficial means to be people's only convenient option though. Not a lot of people have a Wii U, less have the original cartridges or the means to play them, and there's no point taking down ROM distribution services if you're not offering the same thing yourself. @@Drakevid Doesn't make sense why would they randomly type it in spanish
Sounds like prime 4 is going to continue after dread. I mean I'm all for it
Dread is easily the most fun I've had playing a Metroid game since Super metroid. They really did a good job with it. I enjoyed finishing a story I started with the original at 8 years old
Not gonna lie, I teared up big time. I wish my favorite series of all time would get more love from their creators.
I just literally cried, how amazing was this adventure with Metroid Dread and all the good stuff that Nintendo did for it, our favorite franchise got the love that deserved
Dread is amazing I haven’t played a Metroid game before Dread, can’t wait to play the previous games.
A remastered pack would be cool
I played Super Metroid right after Dread the game still holds up pretty well, now playing Zero Mission
Fusion was my favorite growing up. I love handhelds so I recommend Metroid II Gameboy as well. I didn't play the first one and super Metroid one till later on but Super Metroid is a great game. Samus aran was the best character in the original super smash, imo. So fun.
Emulate them
The first Metroid I played was Return of Samus on Gameboy. After that I saw Super Metroid and was blown away. For many years I was not able to get my hands on a copy until the Super Nintendos lifecycle was almost at an end. When I finally saw it in a store, it had a golden seal "Nintendo classics" on it. (Still have the original cartridge and own it digitally on Wii-U)
Super Metroid became one of my favourite video games ever. Played through it at least 2 dozen times and just finished it again a few days ago. Love it!
Dread is also amazing. Just unlocked the entire gallery. And now I REALLY want Prime 4 :D
@@Roboat06 Until they're finally out on Switch (aka never), that's a great idea!
Just finished Super Metroid yesterday, and I gotta say: that game deserves all the praise it gets.
"Here are a bunch of games in a direct lineage we could easily make available on your Switch to go along with Metroid Dread but we decided not to."
"But here's a video so you can pretend they're easily available..."
Maybe they're laying the groundwork 👀
@@VideoGameAnimationStudy This is the same Nintendo that didn't release Mario Galaxy 2 with Super Mario All-Stars - then stopped selling it.
The same one that released Star Fox 2 only on a console that many people never had a chance to pick up.
The same one that got shut down Mario 35 for seemingly no reason.
So, while that would be a nice outcome, they kind of have a recent track record of doing pointless things that in no way benefit their fanbase.
@@AbbreviatedReviews it's not that hard to get a snes mini
@@novustalks7525 Everything is accessible if you have the money.
If thay put mg2 in then half the package would be Mario galaxy
The first Metroid game came out on my 7th birthday. This franchise has more than a special place in my heart.
Came out exactly on my 3rd birthday!
And Metroid Fusion came out... JUST ONE MONTH BEFORE I WAS BORN!!!!!
How cute, you made an NES version of the gunship featured in Zero Mission!
I think Samus' gunship was first shown in Metroid II.
Samus opens a green door with a power beam shot instead of a super missile in your Super Metroid intro though, whoops.
There are several transitions that are just wrong, but also totally awesome, so I honestly don't care.
bruh what she actually does shoot a super missile tho at 1:41
@@sincersan Oh you're right, my bad I really mistook that for a power beam shot.
Bruh
Bruh
Come on bruh
You know that's a power missile bruh
This is the most Nintendo has acknowledged Metroid in years
Now on the Nintendo switch we have Metroid(NES), Metroid 2(GB), super Metroid(SNES), Metroid fusion(GBA), Metroid dread and Metroid prime remastered! Damn, the switch really became the best system for metroid fans
The series once again gets the love it deserves.
Dread sold like crap though, which is disappointed because Dread is legitimately one of the best games I've ever played.
@@Nomad_786 i was under the impression they haven’t released sales data for the game yet. their most recent data only covers games released before september 30th this year. but either way, dread has been topping charts since it was announced so i think you might be wrong on that assumption
Lets just hope it also gets the sales it deserves.
@@Nomad_786 Post your sources or shut up. Sales data at this point has been very quiet. All we know is it broke series records in the UK and Japan in their first week. We won't know US sales until later this month.
Last time I checked I couldn't pick up half of these games.
One year after, all these games will be playable on the Switch!
Got scared/excited there when I saw "Metroid" and "Primer" in the same sentence
Yeah, it's primer as in 'primm-er,' not like paint primer.
@Hakairyu Primer is also the name of a complex time travel based indie flick. Good watch, or two, or three.... lol
Nintendo is the master of their own puns
metroid fusion was my first on gameboy , loved it ever since , such a great franchise
Seeing Metroid getting all this love from Nintendo makes me happy. Metroid Dread was a masterpiece. Now bring on Metroid Prime 4. I'm sure that Retro Studios will deliver once again!
Got goosebumps just watching it. Is like my childhood, adolescence, youth and adultness coming together.
Always loved Metroid, so glad is back!
How about releasing a collection of all these titles Nintendo?
But with Zero Mission too. Also a port of Samus Return would be greatly appreciated.
Imagine if this was how they revealed Metroid Dread at E3
It wouldn't have had the crazy hype and surprise reveal. It would have been obvious a new 2D Metroid was coming 5 minutes before the announcement.
@@DeltathRiylaan People could've thought it was going to be a collection of all the games
@@mbrillon765 If anything, that's more reason it's a bad idea. Either it spoils Dread or it gets people hyped for something that isn't coming and then they nerd rage online about it.
It is the 35th anniversary of the franchise, so this would just be seen as a celebration of it. It would have totally surprised people at the end there with the reveal of the new one.
@@6scar911 At E3? No. 95% of people would immediately think "NEW METROID".
I seriously cannot wait for Metroid 6 whenever we finally get that game. I will patiently wait and keep replaying Dread and the other games. You guys seriously knocked this game out of the park. I havent replayed a game this many times in a row in years. That's how you know it's GOTY qaulity.
SAME. I've already played this game 3 times, and I STILL want to play it more. What a masterpiece of a game this is.
@@duckway4733 Yeah this is hands down my favorite Metroid game next to Zero Mission. Sooooo goooood!!!!
Maaaaaan this was so well done! My son who isn't typically interested in metroidvanias looooooooove Metroid Dread and I had him play through the original on NES and Super Metroid on SNES and he appreciated knowing some of the history of the franchise. I cant wait to show him this video!! I hope we will get some form of remastered Metroid Prime trilogy on the Switch as I would love to play through those with him (I have surprisingly never played through them)
Good parenting right here!!
I hope the same! The games for Wii and GameCube needs to come... In the meantime, I'll play what I have in my GBA emulator and DSi XL
That Metroid 2 to Super Metroid transition was great!
This makes me wanna play a widescreen Metroid 2 port. We've had a remake and a fan remake, and I wouldn't mind to try the original, but that screen size I just can't handle.
Use a Super Gameboy, emulation or something of the like.
@@t-real7088 Emulation doesn't work that way.
It’s not widescreen, but the EJRTQ colorization romhack makes it way better to play
@@nickname2239 Emulation doesn't work that way.
"As awesome as this sounds, there are caveats when adding this type of unintended functionality to a retro game. Since widescreen was never intended, the emulator basically learns as you play, saves areas already visited, uses heuristics, and stitches everything together to create a fake widescreen image. (Great simplified explanation) It also attempts to apply translucency to the HUD."
@@purplealmond999 that deafeatist attitude just discourages the insane developments in emulation we've seen recently.
Metroid 4 is one of the greatest masterpieces in human history.
When the Super Metroid prologue music started playing I got chills, such a banger song and a banger game
Nintendo out there like.... Nah we can't go fu*%ing around with the Timeline like Zelda lol.
This is favorite franchise of Nintendo, so im very happy because of Metroid Dread, the X is back, and that will revive old memories of us fighting for surviving.
This will be awesome.
Long life to Metroid!
Nintendo, when are we gonna get Metroid II, Fusion, Zero Mission and Samus Returns on Switch? Y'all would make so much money off of a Metroid legacy collection...
Metroid was the series that encapsulated my teenage years, and it's still my favorite Nintendo franchise. I'm glad to see Nintendo finally acknowledging its legendary legacy.
We're not. Emulate them
No; Nintendo would most likely rather sell a remake of each of them individually for 60€ across 3 consoles.
Emulate
@@giovannieich7487 that doesn't make sense. They sold the best 3d mario games for $60 on 1 platform.
I mean, I own all of them either on 3ds or Wii U already, and I do emulate the GBA games, but whatever
0:21 WRONG WAY
The Metroid is one of games with a straight timeline, just a story with small sub stories that just follow one line
An excellent re-cap. Love this series. Thank you.
I love how Metroid went from fighting the Metroids to technically being the last Metroid.
A legendary saga has awakened from a long slumber.
And what an awakening it was! METROID IS BACK! SAMUS HAS RISEN!
whoever made this is amazing, so glad the series is getting some love
The love is deserved! We need the remakes and new Metroid games!
Just sayin' a 2D Metroid widescreen collection would be godly. Something like the Retro Engine ports of sonic 1 and 2!
This from the company that couldn't even bother to do a widescreen remaster of Super Mario 64 for the big anniversary, so they just left it in fullscreen.
YES. With Metroid, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid II: The Return of Samus, Metroid: Samus Returns, Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion.
Christian Whitehead? Sorry, he is now at Evening Star
This is the best video Nintendo has put out on UA-cam. Very well done.
Nice trip down memory lane. Loved the editing here. I have yet to play Metroid Dread, but this kind of makes me want to.
This is really well done. Makes me want a Metroid collection on Switch
With HD remakes of Fusion and Zero Mission
And now, they all are together on the Nintendo switch 😢. I'm so happy.
Metroid is the series I can always think about and smile with each time I play the games.
With Zero Mission being my favorite game in the franchise.
I’m glad Metroid is finally in the spotlight again.
@Vito skyward sword is kinda meh gameplay wise especially in the later parts, and don’t forget that links awakening game 😹
@Vito 1 miss compared to like 8 other great titles ye
Can't we just agree all these games are great overall
@@patricklewis9787 I love Skyward Sword, but I can understand someone not liking it. But Link's Awakening is almost a masterpiece. The remake may make parts of it less pleasant, but it's still an excellent game.
@Vito ss is zeldas other m tfym
They should’ve covered the remakes too. But its ok, super happy to see Nintendo finally giving Metroid recognition
As games, they're good. But as a way to recap the story of Metroid 1-4 and showcase the technical progression of the series, the way they did it was right IMO.
They should give it proper recognition by re-releasing the legacy titles that are hard to come by, like Fusion and Zero Mission.
Been a Metroid fan after Metroid Zero Mission was released; brilliant video
I really liked the way you guys animated the transitions between games! This video looks like it would have been a fun project to work on.
Love this. Love it. Genuinely! But you gotta make more of these games accessible to Switch owners if you don't want unofficial means to be people's only convenient option though. Not a lot of people have a Wii U, less have the original cartridges or the means to play them, and there's no point taking down ROM distribution services if you're not offering the same thing yourself. Nobody benefits from that.
Best time to put Fusion on Switch would have been to shadow drop it the _day_ you announced Dread. Second best time is now. I'm smart, hire me.
Well, you are wrong about the romsites thing. If a company just allows people to freely distribute their IP then they could lose their copyright. After all, you need to defend your copyright in order to keep it.
@@JackOfen you cant lose copyright because some shmuck put GBA games on the phone. A copyright is a legal document. You just renew the paperwork every __ years.
@@JackOfen nintendo isn't offering official versions on modern platforms. It's not as if they're losing any money from people pirating Metroid. That's money they're actively preventing themselves from making by not rereleasing it, most pirates will not pirate a game if a better legal option is available.

Thanks for creating this game series over the years, Nintendo! It's a shame that there's not enough games of this brought out over the years but when one lands out to the public it's well worth playing!
2:56 - Someone forgot to animate the floor button and background.
This is such a sick promo. I still can't believe this game is actually real.
Tried the demo for Metroid Dread and man it was fantastic can’t wait to play the full game!
This is AMAZING! Metroid always was one of my favorite 1st party Nintendo game series! I especially am happy to see Kraid in some of the trailers for this, he always was one of my favorite characters!
Most of my childhood summed up in 5 min thanks Nintendo 😎
Those of you who are still waiting on this game, get it. There is so much more than they have shown in the trailers… it’s truly fun
Really good and informative video. I needed to see this. Ty.
And we thought the insane levels of promotion for this game was over. THANK YOU NINTENDO FOR PUSHING THIS GAME SO MUCH!!! I HOPE IT BECOMES THE BEST SELLING METROID GAME BECAUSE ITS ON OF THE BEST GAMES IVE EVER PLAYED ❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👌👌👌
Metroid Dread is one of the finest games I’ve played in years and the sequel to one of my favourite games ever.
Thank you so much Nintendo.
This video gave me chills. I love 2D Metroid so much.
This was freaking awesome! Metroid Dread is absolutely amazing here's to hopefully getting Prime 4 news soon
0:10 I like how they don’t actually have an official NES styled gunship, so they made one that definitely exceeds the limitations of the NES for this video alone
It looks pretty bad. Horribly clashes with the NES pixel art.
Samus is the OG female badass. I just can’t get enough of every time she does something cool.
Fr just be like spamming the replay button on that stuff lmao
That transition to super metroid though, nice!
Now every single one of these is on the Switch!
I love how much you market dread and metroid! keep at it, this series is one of the greatest
Ah yes, local woman in bird technology wipes out floating blobs that eats mimicking gummies in space.
I love all the Metroids but you can definitely tell how Super Metroid was the game changer with updated gameplay and graphics. And the music on it was top notch. You truly felt isolated in a planet with evil aliens. Now with Metroid dread I’m getting that same game changing feeling. I hope this time Metroid is here to stay.
The fact that this video is called "Metroid History in 2D" means that Nintendo will definitely release one with "3D" in the title. Metroid Prime Trilogy Switch confirmed?
3:56 transition from fusion to dread is epic
That transition to Dread is just terrifying and I love every moment of it.
As someone who had heard and hoped for dread but didn't see the original announcement you would not believe the joy I felt at the end of this
Spoiler if you're new to the series and plan on playing them all.
Now a request for Nintendo. Released a Collection of all the 2d metroid so i can play it on the go and on the big screen.
I have to believe that eventually, they will all be playable through streaming service
it may have taken a lot longer than expected, but every one of these games is now available on Switch. and it feels really good
1:41 minor issue, Samus opens a Super Missile door with a basic power beam shot.

They need to remake Super Metroid for the Nintendo Switch
Fun fact:
Since the recent release of the game boy and GBA online service. It is basically now possible to play the entire metroid quintology on switch.
Metroid 1 using the NES online
Metroid 2 with GB online
Super metroid using SNES online
Metroid fusion using GBA online
And finally metroid dread
Wow literally chills. Please remake Super Metroid and Fusion. Pretty please. I'd pay $100 for each
Super and Fusion don't really *need* remakes. They hold up just fine on their own (that's why 2 got remade instead of Fusion). Now a re-release, that's what these games really need. A 2D Metroid collection in the same vein as the Megaman collections we've been getting would be fantastic!
I used to love playing this game, every metroid is a great game to play.
