Thanx a lot from a die-hard Bee Gees fan from Germany. Barry once said our songs are the stars. We bring them like babies to the world and watch them growin' up and doing well. So called music-critizens often tried to write them down, as also American-Radio-Stations banned them on the late seventies. Was never done to other artists, a very interesting thing! Heard no appoligizing of them. But it's clear, I always heared, felt and knew how big the Bee Gees are. Maybe the greatest modern songwriters and musicians.
Long over due, the amazing story of the biggest group ever, on updated documentary honouring their lifelong contributions to music and the endless joys they brought to music lovers all around the world. From a lifelong fan in Singapore.
While they emphasized that Barry had perfect pitch, so obviously did Robin and Maurice. Even as kids they just started singing three part harmony spontaneously and effortlessly. I hope the twins are never forgotten. They deserve equal credit.
A forever French fan, the Bee Gees are the greatest songwriters and beautiful voices of these last 50 decades. I can't wait to watch this documentary. Thanks
Can't wait to see the finished product. And really pumped to know that the focus was on their creativity, as it is beyond compare. We have been so graced to have the Bee Gees in our lives.
I would go back and live those decades over and over again. I can't imagine my life without the Bee Gees and Andy. What is so amazing is watching reactions to the Bee Gees. These young people love them. They are blown away by the harmonies and falsetto. They say they wish they were alive during those times and they can't get enough of the love songs and it being okay to love each other. Every time they listen to them they're putting the love out in the world again.
GOD BLESS YOU GUYS FOR MAKING THIS! I hope it’s good! WHATS IMPORTANT IS THEIR MUSIC BEFORE DISCO, AND AFTER! Best singer songwriters that ever lived! I was a metal and punk rock girl growing up but never went a day without the Brothers Gibb! I love all music really but America NEEDS to know and understand their genius!! ODESSA is a lost gem and I hope we can use them in all educational music programs here! Their songs have been the soundtrack and therapy for my 41 years on this earth! They have got me through a lot! Being young and stupid, going through addiction, loss, abuse, and now even being a healthcare worker during COVID-19. May Allah/God bless them! I love that family so very much!!!
So looking forward to this documentary about the greatest talent ever. I was so fortunate to be at the "one night only" concert in Las Vegas with my two sisters. We are forever BeeGee fans!
10/10 A master-class in music docs. SnobReviews15 December 2020 Beautiful, poignant and electric; "The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" is the music doc of the year and one that resonates so deeply beyond the music. In this documentary, explore the history of the Bee Gees, featuring revealing interviews with oldest brother Barry Gibb, and archival interviews with the late twin brothers Robin and Maurice. Profoundly effective in its storytelling through the music, this doc doesn't cheapen the hardships and circumstances that come with being a family band. Filmmaker Frank Marshall beautifully curates this story through interviews and never before seen footage. The scenes that take place in the studio are some of the most unforgettable moments in music history. This doc will make your parents relive memories with the popular band but it'll also take younger viewers on a trip they won't soon forget. An honest and heart-wrenching look at one of the greatest bands and songwriters in history.
10/10 The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (2020) lkgleeson12 October 2020 The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart is informative, entertaining, and heart wrenching as Director/Producer Frank Marshall reveals the band's soul and the power dynamic that propelled the Bee Gees to superstardom. Highly recommended.
It's 2023 so the documentary has been out for a couple of years now, though I've just recently watched. And, I was blown away! It's an incredibly moving story about the Brothers Gibb and I'm so grateful it was made with great respect but also with clarity and hindsight. Excellent interview, thank you all.
I love the Bee Gees, really enjoyed the documentary and felt it did cover the 60s well. I was disappointed that it hardly mentioned their career after 1986. We get a brief clip of For Whom the Bell Tolls but no mention of any of their other successful songs and variation in styles in this era or the ongoing popularity and huge live shows. I think this would have made them seem more contemporary and less like stars from the past. This interview is great.
I adored this documentary thank you so much for your brilliant work. I loved every second of it. The Bee Gees are the greatest band and songwriters in the universe there will never be another group like them😊
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing Q & A. So wonderful to listen to the respect these beautiful, talented men have for Barry and his musical genius. Also love the desire they had to honour the Gibb family, in their goal to create something that would help preserve the Bee Gee music story for the future
I just saw the documentary. Found it in my local library, of all places. What a nice treat on Christmas day to watch this wonderful story on the Bee Gees. It was incredible. I loved every minute of it and there were things in there I didn't know, like the drum loop Frank Marshall talked about. That was truly amazing. At the end, Barry's final sentence regarding having his brothers here with him and giving up all the hits made me cry. He really misses his brothers. What a sad ending. I, too, wished his brothers were still there with him so we could have even more great Bee Gees songs to listen to! Thank you for making the documentary. It was very well done and informative.
I can't wait to watch this..my God..my idol..though im 53..i love robin voice so much..i miss beegees..forever listening this 2020..incredible boybnd👍👍👏👏👌👌💕💕💕❤❤❤
Barry, is truly caring/social/ writer/singer/ family/loved his brothers.. us with brothers & sisters totally understand the dynamite of a family.. I have one brother & 3 sisters.. my youngest sister passed at 58 yrs young.. they take a piece of your heart when they go.. she passed within 4 days and her and I was not getting alone at that particular time.. so I can relate to Barry.. thank you for the documentary.. I hope one day Barry can watch it…
@@allymayfulI have watched the doc several times and many of these interviews more than once. I agree with the both of you. He had great 'brother management skills', work ethic (Alby and Carl discussing working with Barry 16 hours a day in the studio at the French chateau), Barry's social skills, vocal skills- Barry records all the harmonies, and psychic (for lack of a better word) abilities. I also tip my hat to Linda, who must be a very strong woman, to keep them together. Barry stating that there wasn't a famous person that lived in their home. I think that she also was a good support for the other's wives. Barb and Hugh Gibb for setting an example of marriage and family. Lastly, the difficult decision to sell their catalog to Columbia as he is getting older and this may have been the best decision to keep royalties going to all the families once he's gone. This may also have been his destiny. On another post: B Gibb= B BIG.
@@MissKitty944 Absolutely!!! Not many entertainers can manage their business affairs - but Barry certainly can - and not just for him - but for the whole family.
Love how they document their career rise and how loved they were, but then the music industry broke their hearts and tried to break their career, but they overcame and withstood and stayed strong!! HA to the naysayers!! Breaks my heart at the end, though, when Barry said he would give it all back if he could have his brothers back. Love and blessings to him ❤
Special Thanks to Director Frank Marshall & Producer Nigel Sinclair for the deepest revisiting & insight of, just like the Beatles, a phenomenal millennial Music Group called the BEE GEES! The world is highly anticipating this documentary which is setting the stage for the big-budgeted Epic Biopic next year. B.❤R.❤& M.❤ GIBB (also featuring youngest brother - teen idol A.❤ GIBB).
Overall I really enjoyed this discussion. I just wish the interviewer would not have interrupted as much as he did when they were still in the middle of answering a previous question. A for content, C for professional courtesy from the host. He needs to let people complete their thoughts after he's asked them in-depth questions that require more than a one sentence response.
It's also fascinating that they couldn't read music. The lyrics were the last part then putting the words to the music that was created first. Also Barry said in an interview that he and Andy had identical birthmarks.
Wonder what they could come up with that anyone couldn't already find on you tube or read about in a book? So far, nothing new here. I just hope it doesn't concentrate mostly about SNF. Their music (and lives) before that and after is so much more interesting - at least to me. Barry loved the sound of his own voice. LOL Already knew that.
@@michaelnorris8601 Possibly? But, I hope if that's the case they become intrigued enough to explore the vast catalogue of songs, performances, and interviews that are available right here on you tube. I was an old fan/new fan who kind of lost track with real life happening and rediscovered them through PBS and their One Night Only concert a few years ago. I've spent many, many hours since exploring the numerous videos available here, reading books, and buying CDs (including Robin's solo works). I think it would take hours to really do them justice.
Wow I can’t believe he sold their music to Capitol he’s said repeatedly even fairly recently that their music isn’t for sale. Musta been an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Tommy2shoe811 Ikr, did I hear that correctly? I thought Barry said on Piers Morgan interview, "it's not for sale, it's just not for sale," and the audience went crazy with applause. ???
Someone told me they only spend about 20 to 30 minutes on the 60's! To me, that's their most creative and interesting time of their career plus the beginning of all their internal conflicts. Not interested in their SNF years or even the "disco backlash". One review called that a bunch of bs, although the rest of the review was pretty positive. I'll wait until some of it shows up here for free.
I feel deceived, disappointed and completely frustrated. We were told that a movie like queen's or Elton john's (among others) was going to be made, and what we're offered is a documentary. There has been speculation about which actors were going to star in the film and it turns out that in the end the Bee Gees are going to make themselves. A documentary will be seen mostly by those of us who are very fans of the bee gees but in no case by the great public. Besides, it doesn't seem to be going to be shown in theaters, but it's going to have to be seen on TV. An absolute disappointment that I think this great group seems to be treated as the younger brother of other large groups deserves.
The Bee Gees movie is another project that is in the works. I know Steven Spielberg is involved as director or producer. The screenplay is being written by the same person who wrote Bohemian Rhapsody.
There is an interview here on you tube with Robin's son RJ where he says the movie is happening. He seems to be quite involved with it, and that it would show them "warts and all".
