    Drip irrigation is a topic than can quickly become overwhelming. In this video we are doing our best to make drip irrigation as clear as possible. This basic installation in the gardens around the patio is a beginners guide to bringing targeted water to the plants in our backyard landscape.
    Next year we will add to this basic infrastructure with some additional emitters and smaller tubing. Our goal today is to create a basic grid.
    We hope that our explanation is helpful and gives you the confidence to install drip in your backyard or landscape.

    I sometimes use hot water in a small cup to dip the ends of stubborn brown drip tube when I'm unable to attach it to my couplers. The hot water makes the tubing more flexible and easy to work with!

    You two are so entertaining and informative. I've watched many irrigation videos and yours was the most comprehensive and understandable.
    A tip for uncoiling tubing from the spool so you don't have to fight its inherent nature of popping up. Aaron from Garden Answer says to roll the spool as if it is a tire instead of pulling out tubing from the stationary spool. So start at one end of garden and secure that tube end, then roll the spool as you pull tube from it until you reach your destination.
    Now, you guys cut off shorter sections to piece with the brown tubing, and that works too. 😊
    I hope my description was clear.
    Btw, did your garden zone change with newly released planting zone map? Mine (in Minneapolis) went up half a zone. We're now 5a. 🎉 I already had zone 5 plants, it just means I won't have to worry if they'll survive our winters.

    Christopher glad you getting better and back. What I do when its to cold and to make all tubing work is to use hot water and let the end sit in the water for 15-30 seconds and they slide right on any of the connections you are trying to do. It also helps to remove the tubing off small errors of tubing.
    Edit: We are now a zone 6a by the way. Are you guys selling those bennies? So cute.

    I love all the info about how some plants don't need to be on the drip system. I wish i had seen this before. I've got my fingers crossed that the plants that got too much water will come back in the spring. Do you guys have any other videos about which plants need more water and which need less? I don't have my sedums on drip but I didn't know I shouldn't have my salvias on it either.

    • @growformegardening
      @growformegardening  6 місяців тому +1

    I am older and find the brown couplers really hard to connect. I use the Bic multi-purpose candle lighter to heat the tube and it slides right in. When I need to remove coupler, I cut it away from tube with a few inches of tube and collect them in a bucket. Then I boil them and they pull right out.

    This was very informative. One question: how do you winterize the tubing? With the cold winters I'm sure that you get up there (I garden in MD), I'm sure that you can't just disconnect the hose from the faucet with water remaining in the drip tubing.
