14:05 "What if I brought the edge out a little bit there?" I chuckled at this, because you sound like me! No room for this lovely plant I have? Well I guess I'm forced to sacrifice a few more inches of grass, what a shame. Happy gardening from 5b New Hampshire!
Did you both get into gardening at the same time, or did one say, I’m into plants, and then the other day, oh my, me too??? I would love to see a video where we get to ask you questions or something! Like a ask and answer ?? You both seem soooo knowledgeable and give information so amazingly! I’m addicted to your channel!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Haha thanks. We did do one video answering some questions. I think we will do another sometime in the fall. We both fell into gardening after we built our house
I’m so glad I’ve found your channel! I’ve been binge watching it all day, in my jammies! Your garden is magnificent! Y’all are so inspirational, and I’ve gotten so may ideas about plant combinations, that I plan on planting in my garden next year!
Thank you for keeping it real! Gardening is a dirty labor of love. I wondered if you have considered using power augers to aid in planting? When purchasing clearance plants, I remove dead or broken branches and leaves but I trim back the plants to allow the energy to be used for root growth instead of bloom production especially this late in the season. Always appreciate you showing the process regardless of how slow or dirty it may be. Editing is an ongoing process for me in gardening.
We actually have a few auger sizes that we use...for this spot we skipped it because we knew a sprinkler line ran through it and up front the ground was already all roughed up from removing the shrubs!
Omgosh!!!! I just found you while caring for my fur baby grand puppy ❤. I absolutely love you two ❤❤. I wonder if you live near me we are about 45 minutes northwest of Albany in Hagaman NY. Your gardens are amazing!!!! It’s so nice to watch someone close to my 5a zone. Keep them coming you too are adorable ❤❤ you both remind me of my grandson and his partner Nick. Glad I found your channel boys❤❤❤
You are too kind! We are just north of the twin bridges so yes we are super close! Right now we are trying to do Tuesday and Friday videos...more than that might get us overwhelmed!
So happy you boys are that close so I know if I want to try something you have done it will hopefully 🤞🏻 grow😂👍🏻. Love watching you both so sweet keep them coming honey❤️❤️
I get so excited whenever y’all post a new video! I just love seeing your incredible gardens! What an inspiration! I literally take notes and draw diagrams. If the inside of your home is anything like outside I would love to see a tour of it too. Have a great Labor Day weekend! Mary in 7b
Oh my, you moved one of the tidbits , i loved them there , just like they were. I'm sure the new ones will be lovely. Can't wait to see it in the next year or so, when its' lush and green and full of flowers. I really enjoyed the video. Thanks
What is it about hearing "grow with me 5b" that I feel like a neighbor because we're in the same zone but I am miles away in Indiana. 💜💜 Love the new look, it's going to be so great! You guys worked so hard and it it shows.
Love the changes, I think its beautiful !!! I'm surprised that you aren't using the Power Auger that Laura uses! I got one 2 years ago & its a game changer!!! With all the planting you do, invest in the smaller drill bit too for your annuals as well! Love watching you two!!!
We have one!! There are some drip lines and other underground workings in that spot. Plus the soil was turned up form removing the shrubs. We have some big big augers too.
Ooooh yes they are! The others that we have in our garden are doing beautifully and they are just two years old. It was sooooo much work getting them planted in between the existing shrubs but it was worth it.
Love that you are cutting back and starting to pull up your garden. We too had some serious rain this week and I’m ready to start cutting back spent perennials and the few annuals I plant. The annuals actually look better than some of the perennials! Never certain when to cut back the perennials, but the deer and slugs help me want to clean up the tattered foliage. There is lots to get done before all the leaves start to fall and the temperatures dip. But this week is going to feel like summer!
I know we are told to leave things for winter, but with insect invaders and fungus and such we really like doing a lot of cleanup in fall. The good bugs can go live in the forever just behind our property!!
The only plant labels we have right now are for the roses, Eric got them for me for Christmas one year from Etsy. The small green labels we have came from Proven Winners, but we only have three.
Just love your videos! I am also a zone 5b . Can I leave hydrangeas in the pots over the winter if they are hardy to zone 3 ? Thank you for making my day!
Do you use a 6” auger to drill the holes? The hole looked so perfectly round. Interesting choice to alternate the spirit 2 with Ruby. I can’t wait to see what the hedge will look like❤
We do you big augers but in this case we didn’t. There is drip irrigation through the bed and after moving the other plants the area was very easy to dig
How far apart did you space the Spirit IIs and Rubys? I have several of these and some Blushes to plant this week. I either plant too close or too far and never just right. Thanks for your videos. I am in Illinois 5b.
Loved the video. Question: Why transplant so early in the season? Please know that I am asking from a 10A zone perspective. My fall planting season is way later mid October-November. Thank you
@@growformegardening thank you for answering. Not so lucky here I can’t grow many many plants that can because of the heat. But will not complain ☺️ Thank you again. I am looking forward for a fall and winter garden your. No pressure 🤣🤣🤣
Just letting y'all know that I went shopping and got 2strawberry sundae do they need full sun oh and what are the gloves call that he wore pulling out the rose bush boy do I need that
Glad you used native soil and dressed with compost... I was disappointed to see the defoliation, as that notion of supporting the leaves over root system is bunk and modern horticulturalists know that leaves are required for photosynthesis. Rose leaves are small and may even help with thorn punctures. On the other hand, what could have been removed were the hydrangea blooms, which can skew the shrubs to be top-heavy, and since roots are newly planted and not secure, always have the probability of causing branch breakage. Since blooms are only serving ornamental purposes, and not photosynthesis, they can be removed to conserve any water necessary to keep blooms turgid.
You might be filthy and sweaty but you guys are so cute! Love the changes you made and I think I am going to buy those hydrangea's
I can’t wait to see them next year!
Thanks for taking us along! Everything is so beautiful, and i appreciated the info about prepping the roses for transplant. Happy growing!
I’m glad it was helpful! They are already swelling leaf nodes!

I love the thought and the changes in your original plan discussion. It shows a good design can become great. 🌼🐝
Thanks so much! 😊
From this video, I learned how to transplant roses. Thanks so much🌺🌷🌷🌷😊😊
I’m so glad! I’ll make sure to update when they start to leaf out
You are are beast! I hope your backs are not terribly sore from digging ! Beautifully done

Thanks Mary! We are having a great time learning how all this filming stuff works
That’s a LOT of work for one day! It’s so wonderful that you share the passion and can work together. Thanks for taking us along.
Thank you so much! This was the hardest we have worked in a long time

Nice work!

All your hard work is paying off and looks fantastic! All things hydrangeas what’s not to love and I’m inspired to move roses now! 😍
It feels so scary to pull those leaves off but it really helps!!
Keep the rice hulls! They are great for aeration, mulch and adds silica which boosts the plants immunity
Thanks for the tip! Do you mix them into the holes?
OMG thank you. I need to also move some rose. and didnt know how to do it as I was told that planting rose is good in late winter early spring.
All three of those roses are leafing out beautifully already. It's a scary thing to remove the leaves but it works so well
Maybe show us your plant labels and how you print on them . I’ve tried so many ways and have not yet found what i like. You do a great job.

Technically it should work! Maybe tuck it close to your home to give it a little protection
Yes yes that is a good idea keeping a little close to our home. Thank you for answering. @@growformegardening

May I ask what the name of that purple grass you have in your front garden?
Oh that’s a purple fountain grass. We had a perennial grass there but it got way too big.
@@growformegardening Thankyou 😁

They are pretty tight in this planting. I think about 3 feet on center

Haha lucky! It was 48 degrees this morning. Our first frost is oct 8 so we are right in the pocket for establishing transplants
