I’m a little late to this video, having only recently found the channel, but I wanted to leave a positive comment. My husband and I really enjoy your videos, and so do our three teenage daughters! I use UA-cam as an inspiration, and motivation in my own gardening journey and you’ve become one of our favourite channels to watch. The two of you do a fantastic job presenting, and the videos are all interesting and informative. It’s just fun and validating to see other humans who share our favourite hobby. I appreciate the effort, the realness, and the opportunity to watch an awesome garden grow! 🌱 ✌️ 🇨🇦
Happy new year! Watching you two is like sitting down and drinking coffee with two good friends. Luv you both, and may you both prosper and may you get everything you wish for the year.😊😊😊❤

Good morning, you are my favorite gardening duo, I am thrilled that you started your channel, it takes a lot of work, courage and determination. Do not allow haters into your realm, keep dreaming and planning❤
I found your channel while in search of gardeners specifically in zones 5-6, so I’m glad I found you when I did! That being said, I’ll never stop following and will always support! You both do great on videos and I hope you have fun with it since it’s not your main job. I watch four gardening UA-camrs religiously; your channel as well as Garden Answer, Hooked & Rooted and S&K Greenhouse. What you all have in common, other than the knowledge and creativity I’m looking for, is your delivery of this. You’re concise and informative while not being too wordy and repetitive. I never feel the need to click fast-forward Lol. I also enjoy leaning your personalities and the touch of humor here and there since that is the type of thing that makes us feel like one big happyUA-cam family. Here’s to 2024!
Another great video - makes me even more excited for spring! Looking forward to seeing what you have coming up!! Ignore the haters - it's their problem, not yours. Happy New Year!
At the beginning of content creators videos, they give long intros to the video. Makes me think maybe creators have gone to creator school at UA-cam HQ. Maybe I'm special, but I don't have to be informed about everything second of the video I'm about to watch. Yall are very brief on intro and I appreciate it very much.
This was so entertaining. I'm looking forward to 2024 I'm your garden. You guys play off each other so well. I can't believe you were ever hesitant to appear on camera.
Dont listen to those negative comments. Its sad that ppl still act like they are in high school. Its one of the reason why I never felt comfortable or wanted in our community. Garden has helped me a lot with depression, loneliness, etc. I wish I could get into seeds but iv just never had luck with them. Bulbs are a lot of work but do love the spring colur.
kp-gbuniqueinterest ... I hope you get to a place that you don't react to negative people or care what they think of you. I have depression also -- gardening is so good for our mental health -- but I don't face challenges like the LGBQT do. Just know that many hetersexuals do not condemn you & only want to support your struggles. Your sexuality is your own business & anyone with any sort of intelligence knows it's none of their business. Humans are not perfect; especially the ones who think they are!
Great question/ answer period! 👏. As others have said, please ignore the negative comments and criticism! That type of person isn’t worth your time! You guys are awesome and have been a great inspiration!, I’m a permanent fan!! ❄️🇨🇦❄️

Thank you! I found her on UA-cam Rebecca on Roses. I had watched Rebecca Koraytem on a Paul Zimmerman channel and she is awesome. I was anti roses too until I researched a little more and tried one and then another and then another. The smell of those fresh bouquets are so worth it. I am so excited to see what my David Austin do this year. I am planting The Poet’s wife with the Sublime hydrangea - I wonder who got me wanting those?!? I will also be planting my Gabriel Oak with similar companions as in your bed. I have the Yuki Kabuki Deutzia on order! Please link the sprays you use in your rose videos. If you get the Rise Up series the Amberness was phenomenal and looked amazing in Armillary Obelisk. I think once you get over the fear and just try things in the garden the possibilities are endless.
The poets wife and sublime will be an incredible combination. Give sublime a good amount of room. When we saw the original specimens in the trial garden they were absolutely 5x5. Stunnnnning
Happy New Year to my favorite gardening guys!! You guys are so knowledgeable and so interesting to listen to. I can’t wait for spring so I can get my garden looking great, and starting a new area for a garden. I hope you won’t mind when I start this endeavor that I asked questions of you guys. I know at that time you’ll be busy too with your own gardens. Thanks again guys.❤❤❤
@@growformegardening Well thank you. I will when it’s time. Oh by the way, your home is so pretty and you have a beautiful yard and that green space behind you….. I hope you don’t move for a long, long time.
If people say negative things, do not listen. I love to watch your videos. You make me smile seeing your beautiful garden. Keep up the good work. I can't wait to see what all you will do in 2024.
Working today and watching. Pleasant surprise to see my question at the end. Excited to see 2024 and more videos! You’re both great and so are your gardens.
Love your channel and content! I enjoy your interactions and how you speak to us, the viewers! Looking forward to what you will show in 2024! The seed starting will be great!
@@growformegardening oh, and btw, I did end up doing a cat-proof terrarium for Christmas (instead of a tree this year) as you showed, and it turned out terrific! Everyone loved it and now I have a terrarium to use for other houseplants the rest of the year! 😊

The brand is Simply Tidy. They come in colors or clear (clear is my favorite.) Another advantage is how easy it is to sort your packets by type/category.

Just found your channel, looking for inspiration. It's hard to imagine you not ever knowing how to garden. Your placement of flowers and shrubs are amazing. I have so much to learn.
Hello Guys! From Nova Scotia (eastern Canada) -- love watching your progress with your garden! Also love your channel & look forward to all your updates! Just wish I could buy some of the trees you are able to like those 2 stunning birch trees. I must admit I don't have a craving for hydrangeas like you & most of the youtubers that get to trial Proven Winner plants, but I do enjoy the lacecaps & have a few too many of older varieties. And your new fountain or garden planter & pedestal is so beautiful. My garden is full of Gargoyle statues -- I think you may need a few! They repel evil spirits & may work on the Trolls! lol .. Keep up the videos!
If you want a layered look shrub/tree form (until you find that dogwood!) Try a doublefile viburnum. Layered look, great white blooms too. Just an idea...
Hey Christopher, re: Cornus controversa 'Variegata'. Give Lucile over at Whitman Farms a call. She probably has one of shippable size and her trees are incredibly well grown. You must call her though and you want to because it will be one of the most informational and enjoyable conversations you have this year. I haven't bought from her for several years now, but I assume she's still doing her thing. I also suspect that it wouldn't get nearly as big in our zone as it does in other zones so I doubt that would be an issue.
Thank you so much for this! I will look her up when the time comes. Those are definitely the best conversations, when you really get to dig deep and learn from someone who truly loves her work. I feel like you need one too!
I was saddened to hear about the trolls with unkind comments! I look forward to your videos and think you do a great job! And I laughed about the seed packets… I clearly have a problem and find and receive seeds I didn’t remember ordering… so I’ve started tracking!
Loved this, what a year! Looking forward to 2024 in the garden with your charming selves! How about shade trees🌳 or shade structure like a wisteria/roses/vine covered arbor for garden parties and that hammock 😀 you fell in love with .
Budgets: whatever you think it will cost - double it! Whatever time you think it will take - double or triple it! Join a local gardening group for free divisions from members - and remember to give back once your plants are big enough to divide.
Happy new years! I can’t get enough of your videos; the amount of information you show is priceless and ya’ll are so enjoyable to watch and love from! I can’t wait to see your wish list for 2024! I have a wish list on Google docs too, mostly from tours of your garden. Thank you so much for your videos! Mary in 7b/8 which totally confuses me because our zone went from 7b to 8 but tags aren’t changing?
Honestly I wouldn’t give the change too much consideration. They are an average of 30 years of weather….so we have all been steadily warming over time.
Thanks for the tip on bare root DA roses! I think roses are a little intimidating. Good to know that a clearance buy might not be the best place to start.
A very skilled plantswoman told us that sometimes a plant in rough shape never truly recovers. Some clearance plants like hydrangeas renew themselves pretty easily but roses can struggle.
Just subscribed to your UA-cam and so far, oh, my goodness, just exactly what I needed for my gardening and indoor gardening! I do canning, freezing and dehydrating our outside garden products. I did harvest some seeds from our garden to use in 2024!,,
Christopher, I share your passion for Hair, as I licensed in Cosmetology in 1961 (lol - your Parents' age!!) and I'd like to know - I assume you cut Eric's hair, but - Do you cut your own hair?
You guys are great ! Your personalities and the kindness and love that radiates while you talk is much needed sunshine for many of us. Thanks for caring ! By the way maybe I’m old fashioned but knockout roses can be used as hedges and flowers much of the four seasons and also provide a wall of green just like boxwoods that I have used . I use them to hide the ugly brick that was prepared but still an eyesore. Out of sight out of mind. Happy New Year and I’m looking forward to listening to you guys!
Exciting adventures in March & July? Can't wait. But will we ever see a video of your choir group, or of you 2 singing together? That would be the best!
Thank you so much for answering my questions. You’re my first answer on UA-cam ☺️🙏 I love your channel and I love watching you two. You’re a pleasure to watch and I find your interactions with each other funny too.
We have a joke when we go out in the car. First we have breakfast out then hit the green houses. Then when we get to$100 we have to go home..and we laugh like crazy because we usually do $300 every time ( which is a lot). Glad you are telling what you spend. Watching Garden answer she never tells and I feel sorry for new or young gardeners, it's $$$$ expensive. I myself coveting her garden I can hardly watch anymore.
I do think it’s important to be transparent, especially with partnerships. When I think about the trips to our favorite annuals spot…we would leave with 40-50 every trip!
Fun Q&A! The hydrangea cutting sequence was so funny! I agree that Artist Blue floss flower is underrated. I used it last year for the first time. Definitely repeating!! Regarding the scaevola, I believe it loves humidity. For me, I like it but do not love it. In my opinion, Bubblegum supertunia really looks amazing against white homes like Janey’s and my parents who have a white home with real stone that is cool toned. With my house colors of tan siding and brick, it looks nice but not as wow. Last year, I used all purples and whites and I think it complemented the house better.
Portugal! Or zone 7 USA. Im in z5b MA, but it feels like zone 7 this winter. It's 1/2/24 and we've had no snow, temps have averaged 40 until this morning (19). My plants are so confused and I'm worried about the 300 bulbs i planted in November.
oooh Portugal sounds great! We are in the same boat. I think bulbs will be ok, they are chilling enough. We have hellebores that bloomed a few weeks ago!
It needs more patience but starting perennials from seed is very rewarding and budget friendly. There are a lot of perennials that can be started really easy and they self-seed as well, if we don't cut them in the fall.
Happy New Year, Eric and Christopher! Looking forward to all you have planned for this year! I enjoy y'all's channel very much! One more question...who plays the piano?
Just love your channel! I now understand the difference in hydrangeas and the bud set after you showed the new buds on the stems. I have gotten so many ideas for my patio after seeing yours. I have winter sown poppy seeds with larkspur for the first time have you ever tried them?
Can you guys do a video on wrapping strings lights on arbors and what lights you like to use? And do you just get lucky that the string lights are the exact length you need to fit or do you order longer and hide the extra bulbs? I’m trying to wrap my arbor like yours and hoping to make it look as nice as you guys have!!
The lights on the Jardin arch....WAY too long. I actually have the extra in a plastic bag under the mulch!!! We are going to be doing some changing of the elevated bed area so we can include how we string them
LOVE thalictrums. I have a really, really tall variety (non native) that is absolutely striking and a bumblebee magnet. And rue anemone (Thalictrum thalictroides). The latter is a small plant with white spring flowers - supposed to be a spring ephemeral, but lasts through July in my z5b MA garden.
@growformegardening have you tried Fillipendula (queen of the prairie)? Another magical plant, but you do need to watch it as it can spread. Great leaves too. A plant everyone always asks about in my garden are my echinops- not sure if they're e. Ritro or other as they get about 6 ft tall. Show stopper. Doesn't like to be transplanted. It can be cut back for a 2nd flush of growth too. Try Tartarian asters for another show stopper in fall. 6-8 ft tall. Huge aster bloom clusters on stalks that can be 2" thick. Large, spear shaped leaves, part to full sun. Will readily spread if happy - but easily controlled. Multiple bloom stems where a single bloom stem fills a vase. Same lavender shades as Thalictrum.
@growformegardening the rue anemone is probably my favorite very small plant and it grows/flowers in part shade. Mine has been doing well for 5 years, reliably returning, but isn't multiplying (which they're supposed to do). Just a sweet little plant with thalictrum leaves in miniature.
Hardiness zones are temperature specific. I stick with z5 or lower plants due to extreme spring fluctuations. If I have any problems with z6 plants, it's that freeze/thaw/freeze/thaw period in March and April! For instance, Macrophyla hydrangeas are totally unreliable here...even though they're rated to my zone. Def not worth planting so I sub aborescens instead.
I’m not sure if @margeh6258 will see this but I’m in zone 8a too, however England but I have a very similar spot that gets less than 2 hours of sun & I have a camellia there. It’s absolutely loaded with flower buds despite this. Also I’ve grown sarcococca for a few years now and it does indeed bloom in the shade quite well and smells good too plus if there any bees about, they love it too
Hi Eric and Christopher, I also started gardening because of Laura from Garden 🪴 Answer. That’s where I first saw your before and after pictures of the hydrangeas along the fence submitted and I became fans of yours. Love your garden 🪴

Sharing divisions sounds great! A lot of our original catmint plants came from Eric's parents house.
@growformegardening catmint is workhorse plant for me too. Different forms and sizes, and all are great!
Love all your videos so much! I would love to know what your David Austin wishlist is! You both are so wonderful and give me so much inspiration ❤
Haha that’s a dangerous question. I would like Queen of Sweden, Summer Song, Carding Mill, Danahue, Country Parson, lark Ascending…. Haha
Thank you for your response to my questions, love your channel, can’t wait to see your garden this spring again. One of my favorite utube channels 😊❤
You are so welcome!
I did harvest some seeds from our garden to use in 2024!,,
I am impressed. We can barely keep up with picking the small amount of veggies we grow!
Christopher, I share your passion for Hair, as I licensed in Cosmetology in 1961 (lol - your Parents' age!!) and I'd like to know - I assume you cut Eric's hair, but - Do you cut your own hair?
Neither actually! Eric has a barber he goes to and I have someone at work do mine.
My David Austin Roses don’t do good for me but I think there lovely
They can take some time to settle in!
We definitely see the beauty in them but don’t have the experience directly with them
Exciting adventures in March & July? Can't wait. But will we ever see a video of your choir group, or of you 2 singing together? That would be the best!
Maybe one day!
Thank you so much for answering my questions. You’re my first answer on UA-cam ☺️🙏
I love your channel and I love watching you two. You’re a pleasure to watch and I find your interactions with each other funny too.
Thank you!
Since you have a cat, how about a video on cat-safe houseplants? Would love to see some footage of her, too!
Haha we only have one!! We haven’t done very well
Omg so exciting I got a question in! Loved the Q&A! ❤🌻🌸🌱
Glad you liked it!!
I do cat sitting on the side and use that to buy plants. I’m already starting to save now!
Another fantastic video!! Thanks, as always, for creating such great content!! Happy New Year!
Happy new year!
It’s true that the backdrop can make a huge difference!
As I watch the video it looks like a piano behind you. Who plays and would you touch the ivory keys for us please.
That would be Eric!
Happy New Year! Thank you for this video!
Happy new year!
Love your channel and your garden tours, I’m a new gardener so I’m learning and getting inspired!!! Keep the videos coming 🎉🎉🎉
You got it!
Oh, no wonder you guys have great hair styles! Happy new year! Love your garden!
Haha thanks!
Just recently found your channel. I’m Nebraska 5b so exited to see your planting and caring for your yard. Thank again
Thanks for subbing! We have a lot of fun plans!
I wish both of you a Happy New Garden Year!
Happy new year!
@@growformegardening going outside today to check my hellebores!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!!
I love you guys ❤❤❤❤
aww shucks!
Good Morning!! Happy New Year!! Love your videos!!🎉
Happy new year!!
It needs more patience but starting perennials from seed is very rewarding and budget friendly. There are a lot of perennials that can be started really easy and they self-seed as well, if we don't cut them in the fall.
I have tried a few, it is definitely worthwhile
Oh no, I was going to get a pearl glam this spring. What issues did you have with it?
It just died. Maybe since it has been a few years we could try again with new knowledge, but we just couldn't keep it alive
Happy new year gardening! Really enjoyed the q&a, you both are so open and honest. Looking forward to your videos this year!
Thanks so much!
Happy New Year, Eric and Christopher! Looking forward to all you have planned for this year! I enjoy y'all's channel very much!
One more question...who plays the piano?
Eric does!
Happy New Year! 🎉🎉🎉🎉. I enjoy your videos! THANK YOU very much!
Happy new year!
Best wishes to you both for a wonderful New Year🎉😊
Happy new year!
Thanks for sharing, I love your channel!
Thanks for watching!
Just love your channel! I now understand the difference in hydrangeas and the bud set after you showed the new buds on the stems. I have gotten so many ideas for my patio after seeing yours. I have winter sown poppy seeds with larkspur for the first time have you ever tried them?
I have tried poppies THREE times from seed. Failed every time. haha
Happy New Year to you both!! Loved this video super fun 😊
Happy new year!!
Do you have problem with deer eating your roses
They haven’t been terrible, but they will nibble
Can you guys do a video on wrapping strings lights on arbors and what lights you like to use? And do you just get lucky that the string lights are the exact length you need to fit or do you order longer and hide the extra bulbs? I’m trying to wrap my arbor like yours and hoping to make it look as nice as you guys have!!
The lights on the Jardin arch....WAY too long. I actually have the extra in a plastic bag under the mulch!!! We are going to be doing some changing of the elevated bed area so we can include how we string them
As you can tell, I'm really enjoying your Q&A! I also want to try that chitalpa!
It smells SO good. They had a bunch in Michigan last summer and I could have stuck my head in the plant for an hour
Me too!!! I haven't found the thalictroides yet...I'll be on the lookout. I have five varieties so far! They are magical
We have one! It's great, but currently some bee balm is bullying it out. I'm going to try and tame it so she isn't pushed out.
@growformegardening the rue anemone is probably my favorite very small plant and it grows/flowers in part shade. Mine has been doing well for 5 years, reliably returning, but isn't multiplying (which they're supposed to do). Just a sweet little plant with thalictrum leaves in miniature.
@@adz5bneweng589 Perfect!
❤❤❤

Hardiness zones are temperature specific. I stick with z5 or lower plants due to extreme spring fluctuations. If I have any problems with z6 plants, it's that freeze/thaw/freeze/thaw period in March and April! For instance, Macrophyla hydrangeas are totally unreliable here...even though they're rated to my zone. Def not worth planting so I sub aborescens instead.
We are experimenting with a few varieties that are bred for cold tolerance. I really hope they come through!
@@growformegardening can't wait for an update. Love to know which varieties and how they perform!
Hi guys! Happy new year! (Who's the piano player?)
Happy New Year! That would be Eric!
Where is your metal edging from?
The edging was brought in by the landscaping company that installed the terrace and patio
Who plays the piano? 🖤🤍
Eric!
@@growformegardening Maybe he can play for us!
I'm thinking of starting a UA-cam Garden Channel. Do you have any advice?
Be yourself! Have fun! …and get a good microphone system.
Thanks!
I’m not sure if @margeh6258 will see this but I’m in zone 8a too, however England but I have a very similar spot that gets less than 2 hours of sun & I have a camellia there. It’s absolutely loaded with flower buds despite this. Also I’ve grown sarcococca for a few years now and it does indeed bloom in the shade quite well and smells good too plus if there any bees about, they love it too
That sounds wonderful
Hi Eric and Christopher, I also started gardening because of Laura from Garden 🪴 Answer. That’s where I first saw your before and after pictures of the hydrangeas along the fence submitted and I became fans of yours. Love your garden 🪴
Oh wow! That was really awesome when she shared those photos. It definitely encouraged us to keep sharing our garden
