    Hey guys I know this ones gonna stir the pot a bit but we are committed to showing the real deal. We had no idea that this was a built motor and the vehicle was bought that way from the previous owner who had no idea. BTW putting aftermarket pistons in a 2.8 and matching seems more expensive than just putting in a 4.3. This motor was never running strong enough (bc of fueling issues) and to our knowledge it was 330k old to ever think otherwise and blowing it up seemed to be a great idea!! Please understand that all of our vehicles will be used to give veterans and first responders the rides of their lives in our unique projects!

      Wasn't surprised it was built based on the abuse it was taking, but the entire drivetrain had so many problems, fuel problems, just wasn't in good working order. I mean yes you could have donated it, but who doesn't want to see if an engine can run with popcorn, mountain dew, and peanuts? Sometimes gotta make content to fund the rest of the project. Keep up the good work dude I'm stoked you and Cleetus are both making content, more watch time to learn and enjoy for me!

    Had a piece of debris from the road go into my oil pan on my 93 S-10 and release all of the oil back to the earth from whence it came, it had 12x,xxx miles at the time and I drove it 50 miles with 0 oil pressure to get home in the middle of a snow storm and the next day after patching the pan with JB Weld, I poured 5 quarts of AmSoil into her and I drove it another 4 years and 40,000+ miles until I bought a full size chevy and I sold that little truck for 2k and that was 13 years ago and it was seen, still running a couple of years ago! Chevrolet and Amsoil, unbeatable combo!

      Probably full of sludge and that's what saved it. We had a hole in a trans cooler line on a Bonneville with 300k miles. Ran all of the fluid out of it. Put Lucas in it and topped it off and it was fine after a while. Never had a transmission flush. Our theory is that sludge kept it lubricated. Car went on to have 400k miles. It sounds ridiculous but it's true.
      I really doubt the later model 4t65s would do that. Those things seem to grenade if you look at them wrong.

      A friend drove his Toyota 4x4 (One of the late 80's 4cyl ones) back home out of the woods after knocking a hole in his pan on a rock. It had to be near 50 miles. That was 20 years ago and he's still using it for a hunting truck and has never been inside the motor. So to anyone calling BS on his story, I know for a fact that if you get lucky you can run one on zero oil pressure a good distance and it'll survive.

    Suggestion for the build, a 4.8 LS crank in a 6.0 LS block makes a new school 327 (same bore and stroke as the old 327 but LS components) that will spin as fast as the valvetrain can be kept under control. You might need to get rods made to bridge the gap and force the piston all the way up at TDC, or there might be an existing SBC rod that will work. I'm not familiar with the details of the compression height of the 6.0 LS piston or the deck height of the LS block, but I'm sure between the LS inventory and SBC parts that interchange you could build a new school 327 for not much, and turbos really like high revving engines.

    Love the tear down. I had to laugh when I saw the bearings. We found a similar looking rod bearing in my cousin's wife's Talon TSI. She had bought it knowing it had rod knock, and when we got it on the stand we started checking for play and found #4 had a ton of play. Pulled the cap and the bearings looked like a fan. We've showed it to many people and not many have seen anything like it.

    I have a suggestion.
    Old school, and New shool combo. I've done it myself for my 79 Z28. It's NOT a supercharged or turbo car. But it's absolutely wicked.
    Built turbo 350 tranny, 3200 stall converter, and 241-1 rear gears out of a 78 Type LT Camaro.
    The engine is a 1969 350 4 bolt main block, The heads are off a 1991 police interceptor, huge cam I can't remember the specks on it, hydraulic roller lifters, forged 400 crank and connecting rods and a 400 harmonic balancer and flywheel.
    Fuel injection robbed from the taxi as well as the entire serpentine system.
    It's 10.5-1 compression ratio.
    Tons of torque throughout the entire band, and fast.
    I hope that this might give you guys some different ideas.
    Some older guys as well like watching your videos.
    Why NOT a collaboration of the generations ?

    The big vane in the intake is for the EGR...being that it doesn't mix well with the intake charge so they put in the vanes to swirl and mix the unburnable exhaust gas trying to prevent misfiring. I built a nice 85 2.8 with TRW 204/214 cam, smallblock lifters and LT1 valve springs. Took out the intake vanes and bowl ported and port matched to an Edelbrock 4bbl manifold with 390 Holley on it. Ran pretty well for what it was. Funny thing was the carburetor that I took the metering plates off and put 4150 blocks with center floats and the carb was as long as the valve cover. Hilarious little motor that went to 7K every day of it's life. Good little motor.

    Here's something that I don't think has been done..put a built 3.8 turbo motor out of a gtp and make it rwd with a manual if possible in the s10 or a gtp. ZZP performance has a ton of speed parts for these motors and cheap compared to ls parts. I am an ls guy but I don't see many people doing much with these motors.

    When I was young I used to wait
    On the tuning master and hand him his pistachios,
    And Pass the Jack Daniels bottle when he got dry,
    And brush away the broken rods.
    Jeremy cracks pistachios and I don't care,
    Jeremy cracks pistachios and I don't care,
    Jeremy cracks pistachios and I don't care,
    My master's squirrel has gone away.
    And when he rides the dyno in the afternoon,
    I follow with a hickory broom;
    The S10 being very shy,
    When bitten by the James the blue tail bottle fly.
    Jeremy cracks pistachios and I don't care,
    Jeremy cracks pistachios and I don't care,
    Jeremy cracks pistachios and I don't care,
    My master's squirrel has gone away.
    One day he rode on the dyno,
    The nitrous bottles so numerous they did swarm;
    One chanced to bite him on the block.
    The devil took the engine oil away.
    Jeremy cracks pistachios and I don't care,
    Jeremy cracks pistachios and I don't care,
    Jeremy cracks pistachios and I don't care,
    My master's squirrel has gone away.
    The S10 just ran and ran
    Cleetus couldn't kill him;
    Neither could James;
    He was still alive
    They buried him 'neath the burn out pad out back of the shop
    His epitaph there for to see:
    "Beneath this burn out pad I'm forced to lie,
    The victim of breathing too many blue bottles of James ."

    Man I’m going to get torched for this but... how about building a turbocharged 4200 atlas i6 that was in the trailblazers? Aluminum block, 4.2L DOHC, already has the oil pan/front diff setup for AWD. The engines were pretty solid. Just not much aftermarket support. It does have VVT on the exhaust. Would be nice if they did it on the intake too. It would be completely out of the box thinking and unique.

Run the cold side piping through the bed into the middle of the cab. The intake pipe would run along the floor up thro the fire wall into the intake. Quite a feat for a 171 cubic inch engine. I raced it at the local dirt track for the next 3 years in a 1984 Camaro It beat several Camaros with v8s before someone sabotaged the motor by putting solvent in my fuel cans. I actually won the race after it threw rods 3 and 6 through the side of the block like yours did.

    I’m not sure if you are building this in stages but a cheap brake upgrade for theses trucks is front brakes off a 98-02 f body. Cut the stock rotor/hub down to just the hub and the f body rotors slide right on then you need to modify the spindle and make an adapter bracket to mount the f body caliper. Then a Ford Explorer 8.8 rear with the long side axle shaft replaced with another short side axle works great with these tricks.

    The original 6 liter LQ4 from my truck before I bought it looked like that. Original company that owned it ran it with a bad oil pump and the oil pressure decreased to nothing over a couple months, then after a while it had no power at all and would barely move. Then I bought the truck from them for next to nothing. #7 and 8 were knocking. Pulled rod caps and the bearings looked like old dead leaves. All of the mains were friction welded to the crank and I couldn't even pry them off with a screw driver. Even the rods were discolored from the amount of heat. What are you doing for AWD? Bravada setup like the Cyclone/Typhoon?
    IRS as well? I don't know how well IRS would work for drifting though. But it would up the cool factor if you put a Lexan window in the bed to see it through. Especially on a camera mounted in the bed while making runs.
    Thank you for all the videos. Your shop (both halves) is a serious inspiration for a lot of people. Please keep them coming.

    You guys should do a 3800 swap from a Grand Prix or regal, like some commenters said below it would be cool and you don’t see it much. Plus the aftermarket parts like zzp and intense racing, you can get a good little engine for boost. But love what you guys are doing. Keep it up with the channel!

    By the way, just aftermarket pistons doesn't qualify as a "Built Motor". Sounds like we need CLICKBAIT PATROL on the scene!

    Fun fact, the 3600 and 3900 are based off of the old 2.8/3.1 60 degree v6 and the 3900 made 240hp/240tq with a variable cam in block. You can even bolt a 3900 in place of the old 2.8. Those 3900s are basically free in uplanders and Montana vans.
